A champion caliber documentary of a Championship Team

I bought with "HockeyTown in High Def" and together any Wingnut can have a complete documentary on a stellar season for theGreatest Team in Hockey.
This book starts out by breaking down what players the team lost and gained between seasons, how they season played out, accomplishments, struggles and game by game breakdowns on how each game played out in the playoffs.
Including game by game scores, player profiles and stats, coach stats and even information about the Zamboni driver.
Even 19 year old octopi tossing fan Zach Smith got recognition for his eight legged toss in Pittsburg in game 4!!! Way to go dude.
Wings 4 Ever!!!

As Baronial As A Natural Hat Trick
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-10-21
The Cleveland Barons of the American Hockey League was a mainstay in Cleveland professional sports from 1936-1973.

The team had a stellar past - part of the glory years of Cleveland sports in the 1940s and 1950s with the Browns and Indians - and at one time considered the "seventh" NHL team due to the number of quality players; like Fred Glover, Johnny Bower, Les Cunningham, Jack Gordon and Bill Needham. The club captured 10 division titles and nine Calder Cups during its existence.

Once playing to sold-out crowds in the downtown Cleveland Arena, the Barons began a rocky slide in the late 1960s and ended up having attendance in the hundreds for its last slate of home games - due to the competition with the WHA Crusaders - and moved to Jacksonville, Fla., for an unsuccessful bid in that market.

Gene Kiczek chronicles the rise and fall of the Barons in this oversize book in words and pictures taken from newpapers and other archival sources.

The name was brought back unsuccessfully over the years for teams in the NHL and AHL. But the throwback home white & blue jerseys of the monocled cartoon Baron remain popular with northeast Ohio hockey fans.

This is not solely a regional book on pro hockey history. The importance of the Barons to the AHL and the excitement the club brought to several generations of fans in Cleveland make it a must read for "puck-heads" everywhere.

It's not that easy to find appropriate and interesting sticker/activity books for preschoolers, but this one is terrific. As we read the story of Franklin's big hockey game, there are a number of fun puzzles to solve, including hidden object, coloring, word search, matching, word scramble, connect-the-dot and a maze. There's even a recipe for hot chocolate, a lesson in how to draw Franklin and an answer page. There are 30 stickers that really are reusable when placed on the glossy scenes of Franklin's bedroom, the ice pond or the party hall.

While the word search and word scramble may be a little old for the target audience, this activity book is one of the best I've seen.

This is a fabulous book for hockey fans of all ages and even for non-hockey fans just interested in some Soviet history. The book details what it was like for a Harvard-educated young man to find himself in the midst of the Cold War. It is fascinating to learn about how the Soviets trained and the difficult environment that they lived in. The book truly makes one appreciate living here as we see how difficult it was for the author to live in the Soviet Union. The book is easy to read and very funny in places. I highly recommend it.

The most comprehensive and informative history of a sports franchise that I have ever read. Greenberg takes the hockey fan on a 30 year ride detailing the Philadelphia Flyers hockey club from their infancy in the mid `60s through their last year in the Spectrum in 1997. Great insight to the cup years `74-75 and the Broad Street Bullies of that era. A must have for anyone who is a hockey fan.

Gare Joyce is a fantastic writer. He captures the inner workings of the hockey world like no one else, to date. I enjoyed this book from the preface through the acknowledgements.

John Halligan did an amazing job on the Rangers' 75th anniversary book and in this new title, he has an opportunity to tell more in-depth stories about some of the most popular Rangers players in history. His inside knowledge of the team and clear, crisp writing style makes him THE authority on the Rangers. I highly recommend this book.
