A good overall introduction to the game of craps. Perhaps not quite as good as Silberstang's, but close, and it wouldn't be a bad idea to own both of them.

The book I bought from you was a steal as far as I'm concerned. I had no real problem understanding it.Sometimes I'd get a little lost with details, but would just read it over. I truly enjoyed it and feel the money was well spent.

Out of all the writers who discuss gambling--and, more specifically, poker, which is the only form of gambling I'm really interested in--I would have to say that David Spanier is the finest. Certainly, he was no Al Alvarez in terms of poetry, but his clarity and excellent narration make him a pleasure to read. His death at age 67 was a tragedy as his opinions are greatly missed.
The best compliment I can give Spanier is that, due to his exceptional ability, he establishes reader enthusiasm for subjects normally outside the scope of our interest. Nowhere is this more true than here as, unlike in Total Poker, he brings up topics like the founding of Monte Carlo, and the numerous ways in which players have attempted to decrease the house advantage in games like roulette. This is not riveting material on the surface, but Spanier's attention to detail and masterful knowledge base make them relevant. . His essay on gambling addiction was definitely the high point of the work as he proves within it that this is no run of the mill book. It's a work of psychology examining the motivation behind the act of wagering and the statistics which make or break the lives of the millions of individuals for whom gambling is, at least, a monthly activity. I highly recommend this one. It's "used" only, and cheap.

I'm fairly new to poker, being more of a blackjack guy, so I figured I should try out some reading material before going online and losing all my money. I read a few books that weren't very good and then in the bookstore I found this one. Right now on Amazon the cover is wrong, I know because that's what drew me to the book. It's a great cover (hands coming out of a laptop holding poker chips, you have to see it). I flipped through the book and saw that it actually had some good advice, starting from the basics of poker, which was very helpful. There's also a lot of stuff in the book geared toward experienced and advanced players but I'm not going to get into those parts.
The book showed me how to play the game and what differences there are online. Even online tells! I didn't think those existed but now I seem to have a pretty great advantage everytime I play. It even has diagrams to show you exactly what to do. It has so many example plays and tells you what to do for specific hands, flops, and opponents. The book is easy to read and navigate through and the writing is very clear and concise (the book is short but has a lot of information). It also has some information on non-hold'em games, like omaha and 7-card stud.
I've read a lot of poker books now that I started playing and this one was definitely one of the most thorough and helpful. I now win money almost every time I play hold'em online. I'm really glad I found this book.

I recommend highly this book as I find it to be excellently written. It has a great tour guide for each Indian casino and a great one page summary for each casino. It makes you want to take the complete tour. It also has a good introduction and history on the Indians which my wife really enjoys.

This is an epistolary novel. Dumas is in jail waiting to be sentenced for manslaughter. His lawyer tells the 15 year old that he might be able to avoid prison if he can make the judge understand why he was involved in a gunfight at a poker table. The tale of this refugee from a Mississippi orphanage is wonderfully writ, with the yellowed eye of a poolroom habitue.

This is a great book for beginning 7-Card Stud players. I got it because I wanted to learn Razz. Many people think Razz is easy, but it's not easy to be good at it. My game has improved simply by following the Razz advice in this book. If you're a beginner who knows very little about Razz or 7-Card Stud in general, then you'll like this book. It's very simple and straight-forward. There are a lot of examples and the book is enjoyable to read. Advanced players probably won't learn anything new, but new players will benefit from reading the book.
