Horse Race Betting Using Track-proven methods!
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2005-02-24
Review Date: 2005-02-24
A simple, proven system of picking winning horses. Shows the beginner in a few easy lessons how to be his own handicapper. Shows the experienced race-goer a new type of long-priced, real best bets that have won with astonishing consistency in different months and in different years. Text includes reference rules, glossary, and examples of how to calculate and make a winning bet. 183 pages plus list of major tracks. Sequel to "Payday at the Races." The necessary requirements for each of three of the most powerful types of selection are presented in a nutshell so that each can be recognized almost at a glance. No stone was left unturned in making sure that the "power plays" would win reasonably often under all conditions. Tests were taken at all major tracks but it was demonstrated that these methods also would work well at small or "minor" tracks, which hitherto have been the bugaboo of most amateur handicappers. If these methods continue to produce such astounding results, the reader should have little hesitancy in conducting his operations with the utmost confidence.

Several years ago it seemed that synthetic racing surfaces were going to be a niche product in North America; mostly found at tracks which race through the frigid winter months.
But the evolution of the revolution has catapulted these surfaces into locations - and climates - throughout North America, which has made a puzzle for handicappers seem even more puzzling. This is where Bill Finley's outstanding analysis becomes the winning ticket.
In the first book out of the starting gate to explore the angles from the current data available, Finley takes the macabre out of the subject. "The modern horseplayer now has to learn the ins and outs of synthetic surfaces, which has some people horrified," he writes.
Through research from thousands of races, Finley delves into the brand differences of surfaces & track biases, running styles, pedigrees & sire lines, the "bounce" & training factors and racers making surface switches. "As it turns out, most synthetic surfaces are anything but slow, deep, and tiring," he says. "The bottom line is that synthetic surfaces are not that different from conventional dirt tracks."
Finley has a solid exploration into this new subject which gives any railbird a chance of finding success in this sweeping change of a landscape that is here to stay.

I can't believe I'm the first person to rate this exceptional work of fiction! This novel is so real it's almost unreadable - it can be breathed. Pharr holds a key to the lifestyle and lingo of a wonderfull black south.
The Book of Numbers describes the coming up of young Dave Greene, who leaves home after his wannabe-lawyer father's death and quickly becomes the king of numbers, leading a fast and lucrative sporting life of the depression-era south. Business begins booming before Dave has a chance to realize he knows little to nothing about maintaining a business, he only had a dream. Now that it has taken off he worries briefly if he can handle it all. He manages well, though, and becomes a hero and a millionare. Dave, with the help from his best friend and sort of mentor Blueboy, try to maintain the numbers operation under the noses of jealous and curious white citizens by dealing only with the negro occupants of the Ward. Gambling, murder, alcoholism, police brutality, sex, and race all play a powerfull role in this book. This is a phenomenal piece of black history. Go get this book! Amazing!

A month ago I received a gift of the book "Blackjack the Smart Way" with its audio book "Preparing You to Win", and I just want to pass along how great Richard Harvey's system is. (In fact I've just ordered a set to give as a birthday present). The book is easy to read and understand. I like his sensible approach to money and bet management. Also, unlike other books on blackjack it has a lot of illustrations that make things very clear. Now I'm winning consistently; before, I had trouble putting together a winning streak. I'd win one day and lose on another. It's much more fun now that I know what I'm doing. The audio book is a good way of reviewing in your spare time what you read. In addition, it talks about the "Circle of 13", Harvey's own invention, which really helped me understand the math behind the game.I have already used it to win some hands that I might otherwise have lost.I really surprised a dealer a couple of times by making unorthodox moves based on the "Circle of 13". When I won, he replied how lucky I had been, but I knew it wasn't luck.

While somewhat dated, this book still contains very valuable information and strategies that are hard to find information about.
It was one of the first books to offer a system to counteract the ways the cards are shuffled and "washed." Includes table selection methods and suggestions players can use to CREATE a favorable game.
My favorite sections are the chapters on "Casino Tips and Strategies" and "Money Management."
