This is a great book that is certain fun for anyone who reads it! With multidimensional views, quirky characters, great analagies, and side splitting quotes, this book is guaranteed to make you laugh. I recommend reading all three books in order, to understand the characters better. The characters are like everyone you'll ever know, but put into words better than real life! They grow on you like old friends, with real personalities and minds of their own. the author weaves a hilarious story of Jady, who must have WAY to much time on his hands, and how he outwitts the council, Deludo, and social services... Look out Spawater HERE COMES JADY!!!:)

For those daring enought to enter the world of casino operations, this book is a must read. It is filled with a carefully laid out analysis and explanation of the casino operations. This is a subject that is extremely difficult to find actual documentation regarding such simple things as net win. A first rate choice for the casino operator.

This is an amazing book. It's so entertaining and easy to read you don't even realize how much you're learning. The author asks questions I'd never even thought of, then he answers them so clearly and logically that I had no trouble absorbing the information. I've read a lot of blackjack books and was never really clear on the whys behind some of the recommendations. With this book, now I know what all the others were talking about.

Having had the pleasure of working side by side with Mr. Berkus, I can tell you that he is brilliant in his assessment of the day to day goings on of the casino cage. His expertise is obvious as he delves deep into the intricacies of casino money handling as one has never seen before, that is unless of course, you have spent time experiencing the excitement generated by a life in the industry, as he has. Casino Caged offers the reader a look at the responsibilities of the cashier, the credit department, the cage manager, the hotel and casino and its workers, and the customer in a way that ties everything together to display the smooth running operation that goes on while millions of visitors are happily distracted during their stay in some of the finest gaming establishments in the world. Mr. Berkus' education and background have served him well in preparing him for this long overdue translation of the inner workings of cage / credit operations...I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and couldn't put it down until I was finished! I highly recommend this text for use in casino management courses, and to the reader who really wants to know: What's Really Going On?"

An era of non-decisions

Susan Strange covers in this book the international economical and financial situation in the 1970s and 1980s.
basis (partially flawed)
For her, `mismanagement of money and credit was more dangerous than protection in trade policy.'
This is only true for the Western World, not for the Third World. Protection (and adding insult to injury, export subsidies) is a matter of life and death for Third World countries (with no adequate social protection system). Massive dumping (nearly for free) of agricultural products provoke there massive unemployment (W. Bello).
an era of non-decisions
In the 1970s and 1980s no country wanted or could take leadership in international financial affairs.
There was a refusal to device a standard process for the provision of credit and the handling of bad international debt, the permissiveness towards Eurodollar lending and the proliferation of speculative instruments (derivatives), the refusal to manage competition for export contracts or to install stable exchange rates.
Susan Strange points her finger at the US: `the US is more aware of the costs and difficulties of taking his responsibilities than of the rewards and benefits.'
The wild swings in currency exchange rates lead to the creation of the Euro, a big challenger of the dollar as world currency.
fall of the gold exchange rate, oil shock (author's analysis is flawed)
As W.Engdahl masterly explains in `A Century of Wars', the US government created the oil shock in order to counter the feared massive devaluation of the dollar after its unilateral repeal of the gold exchange standard.
Making the whole world pay a higher oil price in dollars, constituted a major support for the US currency. Moreover, the dollar surpluses amassed by the OPEC countries were transferred into US bank accounts providing a bulk of new working capital for them.
recommended policies
Susan Strange doesn't agree with the `determinists' that nothing can be done against wild business cycle swings. She is still a Keynesian, but at an international level, because individual governments don't have the clout anymore to impose efficient measures within their own borders in a world dominated by transnational corporations.
She wants a return towards greater stability and order, `at a time when the most secure of jobs are apt suddenly to vanish and still more people are made redundant.'
The trouble is that there is no international leadership, only special- and self-interests.
This analysis of the `no-policies' of the 1970s and 1980s is a must read for all historians and a very worthwhile read for laymen in order to understand the world we live in.

Here you have a book that lets you in on the secrets of the language of gambling. No other book has ever been published that contains such a comprehensive glossary, from the funny to the bizarre, to the informative. Royer's book is the only one of its kind. For more than 15 years, Royer spent countless hours sifting through thousands of words, terms, expressions, slangs, and other sayings as they apply to casinos, casino games, and the literature of casino gambling. Finally, Royer selected the most universally applicable series of such terms and expressions, as they specifically apply to casino games, casinos, and casino gambling.
Every reader of every book ever written on or about casinos and casino games will benefit by reading Royer's book. Royer's Gamble Talk book is the perfect companion for any book about casinos, casino games, or casino gambling. No matter what the readers choose to buy as their book of choice about casinos and casino games, this book by Victor H. Royer provides them with the knowledge of the terminology used in all such books.
Additionally, Royer also includes new and traditional casino games, presented in an easy-to-understand format, allowing any reader to immediately gain enough knowledge to play any casino game.

It was one of the first books to offer a system to counteract the ways the cards are shuffled and "washed." Includes table selection methods and suggestions players can use to CREATE a favorable game.
My favorite sections are the chapters on "Casino Tips and Strategies" and "Money Management."
Highly recommended.
