A Young Adult Book that introduces readers to the story of Baucis and Philemon and the Latin Language

A Walk With Ovid
By Jennifer F. Knapp
Publisher: JFK Online Studios, LLC
Published: July 1, 2003
Pages: 30
ISBN: 0-9742249-0-1

This wonderfully illustrated and written books tells the story of Ovid, a black pug, and his friend Lillian. They meet a boy who helps them and realize the meaning of Baucis and Philemon, a Latin poem, still has meaning today.

Ovid is name after Publius Ovidius Naso, who wrote poems in 43 B.C. to 18 A.D. which make up the The Metamorphoses. There are 15 books within The Metamorphoses that tell 100 different myths, including "The Story of Baucis and Philemon."

As old as these stories are, Ovid Pugnacious realizes during a walk with Lillian that the lessons taught in this poem are still apparent, even in today's times. While on their daily walk, Lillian and Ovid get stuck in the rain. A boy shelters them from the storm and offers the dog a biscuit, showing them great compassion. Ovid wants to return the favor, but upon returning to the boy's home, they realize that his wish has already been granted.

Although the story line is a great one, the book really teaches a lesson, just like the Latin Poet used to do. There are Latin texts within the book, that are translated within the appendix. I studied Latin in school and rarely ever get to utilize this knowledge, but was very pleased with the text and the translation. This is a wonderful story and book for any child to read or parent to read to the child. I have shared this book with my children and they now want an "Ovid" of their own.

This amazing book is available from the Publisher, JFK Online Studios, and is also available from Amazon.com

Our story is in Cindy Brown's book. Bear and Debbie. Now into our 8th year together, married 5 years and still happy and going for the "gold!"

Read this book - it gives hope where none may exist. If you can't find love anyplace else, this book will show you that it is possible that you can find your soul mate with the click of your mouse.

Granted, I dated a number of men that I met online before stumbling onto the perfect mate for me, but I also managed to maintain good friendships with a few of those who didn't end up marriage material. So I gained all the way around.

This book is about love on the internet...some good stories, some not so good, some wonderful and heartwarming. But all in all, it shows that life is changing, the world is changing, and love on the internet is a part of those changes. Read it. Laugh, cry, enjoy the stories ...

I hope Cindy does a sequel!!

I had just about given up on finding, by any means, someone to spend my life with. I reluctantly bought this book at the urging of a friend. To prove to my friend that meeting people online is just a set-up for the impossibilities of a long-distance relationship, I started reading it. Then I couldn't put it down. My hope is restored. The love of my life is out there, and I am going to find him.

A very good read about modern warfare

This book explores life in the modern British Royal Navy through the eyes of their youngest weapons director to see combat in the 1982 Falklands War. Richard Gough was just 23 years old when the war took place seeing combat onboard the Type 21 frigate, HMS Ardent. Six years later as a Chief Petty Officer he helped protect British shipping in the Iran and Iraq tanker war that disrupted the Gulf region for nearly ten years. His final work with the Royal Navy was to direct the acceptance firings of the British fleets latest missile system, Vertical Launch SeaWolf, onboard the Type 23 frigate HMS Norfolk.

The great thing about this book is it is written by an everyday sailor that started ship board life scrubbing decks but quickly rose to a senior Chief Petty Officer and very experienced weapons expert. Until this book life in the Royal Navy was only explored from senior officers views and it is refreshing to read about life for the everyday guy who serves his country. The interesting thing about the writer is that he explains in a very understandable format the technology behind ships weapons as well as providing history pointers to his subject matter. I enjoyed this book and the excellent photographs that help illustrate the story, I fully recommend it to other Amazon readers.

Solid in Predictions & Trends

How will the Internet change journalism? This is just one of many futuristic questions addressed in this insightful book. Professor Stovall tells us the relationship between source and audience has already changed in the web's first decade of wide spread diffusion. It will change more as the audience learns of additional options. The traditional paradigm of journalism consisted of an authoritative mass communicator who disseminated messages to the masses. Feedback was delayed. Arrogance was a consequence. With the advent of the Internet, journalism is more egalitarian. Journalists are more accountable, and interaction is immediate.

Stovall's book is full of web sources, many of which are nontraditional. He introduced me to terms I had encountered for the first time. I not only learned the terms, but went to the web sites and engaged in the activities associated with them. To find our what they are read the book.

Beyond CRM! Beyond Web Design!

Loved it! I read e-customer (this is the follow-up) and enjoyed the passion but this is a whole different league.

In terms of detail and practicality this has it all. It presents five-implementation steps for the e-customer programme from (1) how to understand your e-customer; (2) figuring out what difficult stuff he wants that you can give him; (3) getting a team together to deliver what he wants (a council of ideas); (4) delivering an end 2 end experience that delivers what he wants; to (5) keeping it fresh and stay in business.

I am sure there will be other books but this one deserves a place on the bookshelf of every business person with customers! Max appears from his web site ...to be very popular outside the USA and with a book of this quality he deserves more of your attention!

I already had the "big book" on wikipedia.org, "Wikipedia: The Missing Manual", but I've found that some people won't collaborate on wikis when you have such a large book.

This new book "Wikipedia: Reader's Guide" is much smaller than I expected, but I'm very happy with it.

Despite the title of this book that implies that it's for readers, the pamphlet has two main sections: 1) for readers and 2) section II for elementary editing.

This book also covers some of the wikipedia sister projects such as wikiversity.org and wikibooks.org.

So, now our people know about the free, online wiki encyclopedia, wikipedia.org, but we're going to also benefit from the free textbooks at: wikibooks.org and the free lesson plans and lessons from wikiversity.org

About the MediaWiki Foundation: It just keeps getting better and better.
