Dr. Schaffer breaks new ground in the areas of trust and ecommerce with her study of e-travel agents. Her models, which are based on the Harvard Business School's Mind of Market research, bring new measurement techniques and applications to one of the hardest emotions to measure on the web - trust. Dr. Schaffer, a McKinsey consultant, whose research background includes degrees from Harvard, the University of Innsbruck and ESC Rouen as well as work with L'Oreal and Daniel Swarovski brings a unique view to how consumers view and relate to the web. Her original research was one of the first applications of ZMET (Zaltman Metaphor Elicitation Technique) to the Internet - and her conclusions on how to generate trust on the Internet will be surprising to many.

I found this book so much fun for students
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 1999-11-05
The book has easy to understand instructions for each role play; this means the activities are time-saving on preparation. I used the "Get me On that Flight' role play first and had so much fun with my students; they loved it. I had plenty of opportunity to correct the English I heard and at the same time laughed along with them. A real 'must' for teachers of English as a second/foreign language.

Get this little guide that covers most of what you need or want to know about online communities and MySpace in particular!
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-06

I loved this booklet. It is small, but stuffed with lots of content, and was very well outlined and written. It is a guide for anyone who wants to quickly get a feel for online communities, participating in online communities, building a real presence in online communities, or marketing through online communities. It is broken into six parts:

1. The basics [1-4]
2. Welcome to MySpace [5-13]
3. Make it your own [14-17]
4. MySpace music [18-20]
5. Playing it safe [21-22]
6. MySpaceology [23-24]

And the six parts are broken into 24 chapters as follows:

1. The big picture
2. The networks
3. Your setup
4. Common concerns
5. MySpace FAQs
6. Your first time
7. Searching and browsing
8. Making friends
9. Mail, comments and chat
10. Groups and forums
11. Events and calendars
12. Blogging
13. More MySpace
14. Pimp your profile
15. top hacks
16. Images and photos
17. Video clips
18. Artist signup
19. Making music
20. More music
21. Avoiding trouble
22. Dealing with difficulties
23. MySpace weirdness
24. MySpace resources

I got a lot from Chapter 2, which informed me of the major online communities and basic information as to who participates in them. It didn't appear that any of the ones mentioned catered to members who were over age 35. So if you plan to market to senior citizens using online communities, then you will probably have a problem!

I also liked chapters 16, 17, and 19. Consultants probably should think in terms of adding streaming audio to their professional Web sites, and this booklet will help them understand how to make that happen. Also, streaming video of clips from seminars consultants provide might be a good idea to make part of their professional Web sites. And this booklet will help see how that can be done, too. All in all, this was a wonderful little booklet regarding the ins and outs of online communities with an emphasis on MySpace. 5 stars!

Beatifully Written....Eye Opening
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-27
This book is a real eye opener, even for those of you who may feel learned when it comes to the Internet. There are countless numbers of primary source interviews (many of which are quite shocking) and personal accounts stylishly and perfectly kneaded into the text. Backed by his knowledge attainted from numerous educational accomplishments, Dr. Haas exposes a much hidden world, which is probably closer to you than you think, while provided expertly attained advice - and believe me, it's not your everyday 'helpful tips' or sums of drastic measures.
On another note, I particularly like the way Dr. Haas (by the way, he's a much loved father) incorporates information not just about online child molestation, but about other topics - such as female harassment and hidden attributes of the internet - , too. Little stories inside, coverage of technical jargon, dedication to quality, as well as being an amazing example of a book that is both down to earth and simple, yet at the same time superiorly embezzled with technical info (don't worry, there's explanations).
Definitely an interesting and insightful buy; get a copy if you're even remotely interested in the Internet or child protection or anything similar. And get the paperback..........it's cheaper :-) .

This is a great book for anyone searching for a bank with online services. This book is also ideal for any bank considering an online presense. The book thoroughly details - from a customer's standpoint - what banks are currently doing well, and not so well. Readers are provided with lots of good tips. It is practical and timely information - I would highly recommend this book.

Informative and entertaining introduction to shopping online
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2001-03-22
Jill Freeze does an outstanding job in explaining the world of shopping online to people who might want to try it, but is concerned about privacy and safety. This is the perfect book to read if you've wanted to try online shopping, but need more information first.

Jill's style is entertaining and the book is quick-moving. You won't realize how much information you've accumulated while enjoying reading about the ins and outs of shopping online!

I highly recommend this book for newbies to shopping online. Jill explains everything clearly step-by-step. She also includes how to shop at Ebay and other online auctions. Most newbies would prefer to start their online shopping experience with something a bit easier, like buying this book at Amazon, for example, but everything you need to jump into the Ebay auction world is there if you decide to do that!

The book discusses how to look at the "big ticket items" online as well - things like houses and cars and colleges! You can do research online even if you end up buying the product at the local mall.

Jill Freeze is visually impaired and she is a perfect example of how online shopping makes life easier for SO many people in SO many different situations. I have been shopping online for a few years now, and have bought stuff from lots of e-tailers, including Amazon (yes, it was the first, and my favorite!), Webvan, Ebay, Half.com, Lands End, Drugstore.com, and many others. There's very little that you can't buy online, actually!

Jill discusses how to research the item you're looking to buy - she gives you lots of websites to check, but I found that she left out a few of my favorites:

BizRate.com - gives detailed reports on the different online stores - comparing on-time delivery, easy navigation of the website, prices, quality of items sold, etc. Yes, Amazon is very highly rated on Bizrate.com!

DealOfDay.com - looking for a deal? Check out what special offers are available at the online store of your choice ($10 off a $50 purchase, for example!)

BestBookBuys.com - My favorite thing to shop for online (and off-line, for that matter!) is books, and this website is the best for finding which store has your book at what price. You type in the title, author, or ISBN number, and it looks at about 30 different bookstores online and comes up with an easy-to-understand chart giving you the price (lowest price first), shipping cost, tax in what states, and best of all - AVAILABILITY of your book! Many shopping bots leave out this important fact. You can see the bottom line price - including shipping, and how soon your book will get to you. If you find that Amazon is your best bet for your latest must-have book (and it often is, all things considered), just click on "Buy" and BestBookBuys.com will take you right to the book detail page on Amazon (or whatever other e-tailer you click on) and there you are! Before buying from a bookstore that you aren't familiar with, check it out at Bizrate first.

Thanks, Jill, for a complete guide to the wonderful world of shopping online!

I thoroughly enjoyed this guide to my untraveled waters in internet dating. It made me aware of things to do and not to do as far as meeting someone online which I was very skeptical about. Some things I had already encountered and others that I feel I will be better prepared for in the future. I'm so glad someone finally wrote a book which was so needed and helpful!
