This is a fascinating book that goes into great detail on cheating methods for many gambling games including slot machines, poker, roulette and craps. There are also discussions of three-card Monte, cheating devices, carnival games, counterfeiting, pool, horse racing, and "miscellaneous schemes and frauds." Protection is rich in visuals, including slot machine schematics and reprints of old news stories about cheating. It's a great reference work!

Historical Romance set in London and Colonial Williamsburg.
Abigail is the daughter and sister of profligate gamblers. She finds herself offered as a bond-servant to Lord Jasper Cuddlesdon, in payment of her Father's gambling debt.
Cuddleston,a spurned suitor, did not receive his conge with any sign of acceptance. He arranges single passage to Williamsburg for his new bond-servant on the brig, Alice Nancy.
Abigail meets a charming, former bond-servant, Lance Haworth, on the voyage. Lance now owns his own plantation and is no friend of Jasper Cuddleston. Lance offers sympathy and comfort to fearful Abigail. Can he protect her in her new life as a bond-servant? Has Abigail seen the true man or is she blinded by love?
This is a fast-paced, breathless romance with really fine historical detail. There is something for everyone: high stakes gambling, seduction, childbirth, child abductions, larceny, deceit, murder and a happy ending. And two, very human, believable villians.

A great book

I read this book after I read the Scoblete / Dominator Golden Touch Craps Dice Control Revolution! and it is a great companion book to go with that one. The first shows you exactly how these great dice controllers develop the skill to beat the casinos at their own games and this book is the great stories of the great dice controllers such as the Arm, the Captain who has the world record of 147 throws in a row before sevening out, and the Lee Brothers who head a band of professional players.

Scoblete is a great writer and these two books are great together.

Chalon Jackson has written a phoney review. I know ten people from this book as I took a Golden Touch Dice control course.

Frank Scoblete, Dominator, Dave the barnacle, Mr. Finesse, Howard the Rock 'n Roller, Stickman, Street Dog, Bill Burton, Jerry Patterson, No Field Five.

Two of the above have played with the Captain and one student from the class I was in also played with the Captain - so the Captain is real and not a fiction. You can read about his great roll of 147 at golden touch craps.com if you want.

The book was not advertised as the manual for dice control but as the story of the great dice controllers and that it sure is. You will meet the Captain, the Arm, Jimmy P., the Lee Brothers, the great Golden Touch shooters such as Dominator.

The last chapter of the book is supremely interesting - a 16 day diary of Frank's adventures (and they were some adventures for sure) in Las Vegas.

Don't let shills for other authors guide you away from this masterpiece. Check out all the reviews of the Craps Underground and you'll see that almost all are five stars. This book deserves that many for sure.

This book is the great stories of the greatest dice controllers in the casinos, including the Captain, who just rolled 147 numbers!!!! You can read about this great roll at golden touch craps web site under the world records. This book takes you on an adventure into the world of the greatest advantage-players of all time - the Captain, Dominator, Sharpshooter, the Lee Brothers, and the great shooter who ever lived, THE ARM.

This is a must for all dice players and those interested in a great book!!!!

Adventures in DEFEATING the Casinos

Frank Scoblete has been involved with dice control since the late 1980s and this book is a culmination of his experiences with the greatest advantage craps players in the world. You will meet the Dominator, the Captain, the Arm, Sharpshooter, Howard "Rock 'n Roller," and many other great ones in this exciting and fascinating book.

Scoblete recounts his true adventures in the casinos since the late 1980s, practicing a way to beat the house at the game of craps, dice control. He wrote about dice control in 1991 and 1993 in his first two books and then wrote Forever Craps in 2000. These three books lay the groundwork for the Captain's method of dice control which is featured in The Craps Underground.

You will love Scoblete's true adventures on the A&E television show, in his diary of 16 days of play in Las Vegas, in his setting up with Dominator of the Golden Touch craps dice control seminars.

This is a book that is a must read for all craps players looking to see what the great ones have been able to accomplish.

This is a book of fiction, no mention of craps strategy

This book is more of an advertisement for Scoblete's other books, his writing buddies other books, and his golden touch craps siminar. This book gives no mention of how the reader can acomplish dice control, which is the reason I bought this book. The book is rather a collection of stories. Scoblete tells of people he met playing craps but he forgets to tell how to play craps. It would not surprise me at all if the characters in the book are made up, especially the Captain, the authors ultimate craps hero. I couldn't even finish this book. It was boring and repeated the same type of uninteresting stories all the way through, and left the reader with no knowledge gained. If you are interested in a good casino book I recomend something by Avery Cardoza or a book published by his company.

absolute genius

Rhinehart's fictional autobiography of a psychiatrist who first explores radical new ways of approaching life in order to avoid sinking ever further into stagnant boredom, and then creates a cult movement out of the philosophical implications of the result, is simply a totally hysterical sendup of popular culture, the concept of psychotherapy, upper middle class values, and people's conception of the self. It is a novel of absolute genius.

The writing comes across as mildly intellectual, reflective, thoughtful and cultured, which soon makes the content and substance of what is written ironic, crazy funny, and subtly thoughtful. Diceliving as such is obviously a joke, but the reasons for considering it are not, and Rhinehart's treatment of the concept is screamingly funny while simultaneously letting the reader wonder if some variant, perhaps a 1% solution, wouldn't make life more interesting. The autobiography itself takes the man from complacent, bored and stuffy luxury to murder, madness, disrespect and to moral nullity...but he's living his bliss!

Leaving aside the philosophical implications of the book's central joke (it IS a joke, don't get hung up on it!), the rest of the novel's ups and downs are written so well, episodic thought they may be, that this reader laughed out loud for hours (particularly the cocktail party scene).

The book is so well conceived, so original, so funny, and such a successful sendup of the cultural conceits we live by, it deserves six stars.

Genius.

I picked up this book after I bought the album "Slaughter of the Soul" from the Swedish melodic death metal band "At The Gates". Their album title, and lyrics are tied to this book. This is an excellent read. Still disturbing to this day. They way all the violence, rape, and thoughts are portrayed; you would have though it was written within the past 10 years. This is a great read for anyone who is into psych-drama movies, and novels.

For the philosofically inclined. This book is easy to read, extremely funny and gives the reader profound insights into the mystery of personality/ego. If you like this kind of litterature you should read Naive Super by the norwegian author Erlend Loe.

Not a book to be taken too seriously, IMO, although it touches on some profound philosophical thoughts.

The Diceman of the title is a New York psychiatrist who, fed up with the repetitive routine of life, decides to subordinate the normal rules of society by allowing the throw of the dice to determine his actions. This results in much taboo breaking, and much sex and violence. It's also funny and shocking.

For me the novel comes out of the same stream of thought that brought us Catch 22 and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It asks us which of us are the sane ones; those that follow the rules our societies have laid down or those that opt out. Sometimes you have to wonder. It also poses us questions about the nature of existence, fatalism and responsibility.

There are holes; the options that the dice offer are determined by the thrower, which could result in some very anodyne choices; shall I drink tea, coffee or hot chocolate? The protagonists seem to have an unlimited supply of funds, and the need to earn a living rarely seems to crop up.

These are nitpicking though; it's not important for the main themes of the book.

Read and enjoy, but don't be too anal about it...

this book was truly a page turner. i didn't want to put it down. i felt like the author really pulls you into the story and make you mad when the main character is mad, happy when she's happy, and sad when she's sad. i could never give up myself for a dice game but it's understandable the way the author lays out her options. i hope i dont love a man that much...lol

this was a pretty good book I read the bulk of it in about 4 hours, my issue really came at the end, where the reader was left to assume a few things. I felt as if she didn't make a certain thing clear and she didn;t lead you to it either, she could have done a better job with that. I agree with some of the other reviews also about things kinda missing, but she did her thing on this, i would recommend for someone who likes the flash back, and likes drama.....There were small spurts of action.

I bought Dice because I Liked the cover and Shiesty. But once I bought the book and read the back the book was predictable I just knew that chick was going to be dumb and do that stuff, not once thinking of the situation that brought them together in the first place. Even though Wasuan did make that punk move and I don't respect what he did, what she did wasn't any better. I didn't like the flow of the because she didn't give you details on there relationship right off the back instead she kept flashing back throughout the book so when things went down you didn't really feel it or understand where they was coming from because you didn't know how deep their love was or their history I set myself up to be pissed off by reading this book but the ending was good and it got my feelings caught up in it I guess it was worth the $15

This is my 2nd Tony Valentine book. Like the other, this one is loads of fun and sucks you in and keeps you turning the pages. Not going to stimulate any new neuron growth, but will keep you happily distracted and entertained for a few hours.

Story starts out from a pretty simple premise, but new layers/complications keep getting added until you've got yourself a full-blown terrorist threat. The events are a bit of a reach, but close enough that it doesn't lose you.

Naturally, Tony saves the day with an ending that's a bit over the top. But the rest of the story is pretty grounded and plausible. And the characters are vividly sketched, with many of them, including Tony, being quite likeable and empathetic.

And, of course, there are any number of subplots going on all the while - Tony's son, new baby, solving various cheating schemes (usually in, like, 5 seconds which streches credibility a bit - especially the one where his assistant figures out a cheating scheme over the phone by reading a textbook). But anyway, the subplots all tie in somehow and help to keep things moving quickly without getting too convoluted.

So, very solid effort and I recommend this as a perfect beach read, long flight, etc.

Valentine Back in Vegas

Review Date: 2008-03-27
Retired cop turned casino consultant Tony Valentine is back in Vegas on a job, and searching for his screw-up son Gerry, when he spies a woman bearing a strong resemblance to his deceased wife getting ready to jump off her balcony. Tony races away from a meeting with three high-buck casino bosses and to the aid of Lucy Price, who's feeling suicidal after her $25,000 winnings are stolen. Of course, this is all just part of a bigger scam happening at the Acropolis Casino next door, an old-style Vegas joint complete with statues of its owner's ex-wives out front. Nick Nicocropolis and Valentine go back, so Valentine readily agrees to help catch the scammers, who are led once again by the legendary Frank Fontaine, who Valentine has tangled with before.

Much more is at stake, however, when Gerry Valentine teams up with a couple guys from card counting school who are up to no good. Ripping off casinos is only a part of the evil schemes his new companions are up to, and soon Gerry is in so deep he has no one but the old man to turn to.

While not as much fun as Swain's last effort, and relying a bit heavily on a cast of warmed-over characters from his first novel, this is nonetheless another entertaining tale in the Tony Valentine saga. We get a few more peeks into the characters, but I could have used a tad more, since Valentine's last novel was so good.

You'll be turning those pages rapidly

This entry in James Swain's Tony Valentine series is stuffed with character, action, plot, a subplot, Oedipal conflicts, and as an extra added bonus, tips on gambling scams.

Valentine, the retired Atlantic City cop turned gambling consultant to casinos, is one of the great new heroes in the thriller genre.

The dialog's crispy, you'll care for the characters, you'll forget lunch, you'll forget dinner.

Loaded Dice was very entertaining. During the five days that Tony Valentine(the protagonist)spends in Las Vegas, he discovers a scheme that cheats a casino, is accused of murder, has a short romance with an addicted gambler, saves his son, and gets involved with terrorists. Tony did all the work and I relaxed. This is a very easy read and there is lots of interesting information about methods of cheating at games. I recommend this book.

Somewhere in the middle...look for another book with 5 stars.

I read Sucker Bet by James Swain as well and I must say he brings good stuff that can be great. However, ending is such a "Hollywood" formula that I cannot give 4 or 5 stars.

As with other book by James Swain, he starts off great so he will suck you in but at the end, it fizzles.... and disappoints.

If you have nothing else on your reading list, pick it up and read it but don't expect an original ending.

This book needs no intro. Covers the aspects of dice control, trouble-shooting and goes further with some wager tactics. It contains not only the words of Frank Scoblete, but also of other great and known shooters.

The main objective here (obviously) is dice control. But I was actually happy when I saw several wagering approaches. There are books that cost a lot and are about progression build ups on a hot roll. Well, there's a small 6 step 6-8 press that has become a favorite I committed to memory with no question or doubt. A work of art that puts you in a zone of safety after 2 hits on either number.

Not much more to say. It is what it is and you get more than you pay for. The expense is small and can always serve as an excellent point of reference.

My cousins and I were at a casino in Tunica losing big time. He usually has a good run so I was betting away on his rolls. He would pick up the dice, blow on them, say a prayer, kiss his nuckles, and go through a whole ritual before shooting. He's what Frank would call a "gambler." One of the dealers asked if we had ever heard of the Dominator, neither of us had. He said, "try reading the Dominator before coming down here again." I read this book on a Thursday and went to the casino that Friday night. Did I try to become an overnight controlled shooter? Heck no, I stood at the table for about 20 minutes until I found someone that was. I walked away happy that night.

I believe in the techniques, and have been practicing them myself, but have yet to try my novice skills at the casino. I'm ordering a makeshift golden touch craps table that I found on Ebay.

I blazed through this book in a day. It's a solid read, but definitely a little longer than it needs to be, as a lot of stuff becomes redundant as you move along. I also thought the learning sections could've been organized a little better, but admittedly, I may just be splitting hairs with that one (I think my conclusion is I would've enjoyed the DVD more - except it's really expensive.

Anyone who is reading this book with hopes of becoming an instant craps whiz better look elsewhere. This book preaches hard work, focus, meditation, among many other things. If you truly believe that this works (I'm a bit skeptical myself, but hey, that's why Frank would call me a "Random Shooter!"), then this will give you all the tools you need to go forth. But if you're sincerely interested in "breaking Vegas" via craps, then this book will show you how to get started.

I like this book, it had the information I wanted to learn. I also bought "Get the Edge at Craps by Sharpshooter" because I always like to get several opinions on the same subject to make up my own mind on what to believe. They both contain basically the same information except "Get the Edge" goes into the mathematical formulas of physics a lot deeper. I like the writing style better in this book.

It boils down to this, if you want to learn how to throw the dice and learn from the best out there, get this book.

If you want to impress your friends by punching numbers in your calculator to show the probabilities of physics then get the other one.

In my opinion you only need one book and this is it. Plus it goes over all the rules and betting so you don't need another book on learning how to play either.

This is the only book you need on Craps.
