DECISION DICE - Very compact and very accurate....

I found the DECISION DICE to be very right on with my questions and concerns. This is one of the easiest and fastest divination methods out there. There are multiple ways to get answers including a simple YES or NO. I would highly reccomend this to anyone that would be interested in trying something different and less complicating. The book, dice and board all come in a cute compact box that would make a great gift. This is also a great tool for anyone seeking answers from within or to use in conjunction with other methods of divination.

A New Take On An Ancient Form Of Divination
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-04
Dice have been used for thousands of years for two reasons: games and divination. A form of divination known as sortilege, dice made out of stone, bone, ivory, or wood have been used for casting lots, gaining insights, and foretelling the future.

Although familiar with other forms of divination, I had not yet used dice or any form of sortilege. Therefore, it was with great curiosity and interest that I examined Decision Dice - Your Every Question Answered by Richard Craze. This unique kit comes in a sturdy, glossy square box that is split diagonally, giving it a flip-top opening. Inside the box is a small, but thick, 336-page book, a 9-piece casting board, and 3 wooden dice. The casting board is really a puzzle that forms a wheel/pie divided into 12 sections, and the dice are color coded: black, cream, and brown.

Given the various ways dice can be used, I thought this system may be confusing to use. However, after reading the brief explanations of how to use the Decision Dice system, I found it pretty straightforward. There are three ways you can use the dice for answering questions:

Yes/No Questions

This method answers yes and no questions, with qualifications. You roll the dice, add up the total, and read the explanation. For example, if you roll a 4, it means Yes. But it will only bring disappointments and disasters. Roll a 5, and it means No. But this is a good thing. There are 18 possibilities using this method.

General Questions

Sometimes, we have a general question in mind when using divination. "Will I meet someone soon?" or "What will happen with my job?" are such questions. With this method, each of the color-coded dice mean something specific, as does the numbers on the dice. After quieting yourself, ask the question and roll the dice. This section is divided into dice number totals, with subdivision being the actual dice combination. For example, you may roll a 10 which means Success. However, you need to find your exact combination, which is shown graphically in the book. For example, if you threw:

Black die: 5
Cream die: 1
Brown die: 4

you'd look for that particular configuration under number 10 Success. Likewise, if you were to roll:

Black die: 6
Cream die: 2
Brown die: 2

Each reading has a page long description, so even readings falling under the same general heading (like Success) will be somewhat different.

Specific Questions

Each colored die has a particular meaning. With this method, you meditate on your question, and choose which color die address the spirit of your question the best. For example, if you were to inquire about health, you'd use the Brown die. To inquire about career or finances, you'd toss the Cream die. For difficulties, life lessons, or the law, you'd toss the Black die. After choosing your die, you then cast it upon the board which is like a pie or spoked wheel divided into 12 "slices". The readings in this section are based upon the number on the die, and which numbered section on the board the die fell upon.

So, if I were to ask a question about education, I would choose the Cream die, and toss it on the board. Let's say I rolled a 3, and the die landed on segment ("pie slice") 6. Segment 6 deals with Discipline, so I would look under this section for Cream dice numbered 3. The reading for that combination is" I don't imagine for a moment that you realize the seriousness of this situation. You need to exercise some discipline or things will get even worse.

Does It Work?

With any form of divination, the important question that needs answered is Does it work?. There are two things I look for when evaluating a divination tool:

*Is it user friendly?
*Is it accurate?

It could be argued that the accuracy of any divination tool is based upon the clear-seeing and openness of the reader.

One of my regular clients contacted me recently for a reading. I usually use cards, but asked her if she'd like to give Decision Dice a test run for her reading. If she didn't like the reading for any reason, I'd do my regular card reading for her.

She agreed, and I performed the reading. For whatever reason, perhaps the unfamiliarity, she said she preferred my card reading. Interestingly, the cards confirmed the same messages given in the Decision Dice reading! Based on this test-run, as well as having used it a few times for myself, I'd have to say the Decision Dice method is both quick and accurate. You are not required to memorize anything, and readings are spelled out clearly for any eventuality.

If you're looking for a new divination tool, or would like a method that is less intimidating and complex than ones like traditional Runes, Tarot, or the I Ching, I highly recommend Decision Dice by Richard Craze.

The Dice are Out

The Dice Are Out is more than Bucko's Wartime and Casino Adventures

It's a spiritual book - a story of deep, moving life-long friendships, and overcoming many obstacles that stand in the way of success. It's about friends helping friends that begins on the battlefield and extends to the Homefront afterwards.

It's about family and family values and motivating and helping the children to make the right decisions.

Having said the above, there are many segments that are gripping page turners, especially the wartime battles, the craps adventures in the casinos after the war, and certain other racy parts as well.

When Bucko describes his son's passion for driving race cars, he puts you right in the cockpit with Toby as Toby drives his first feature race - Toby's strategies for advancing from an 8th place start to winner vividly shows that Bucko has been there knows that of which he writes.

The publication of this book, in a way, is a microcosm of Bucko's life. His life is filled with success stories of goals established and goals achieved.

After typing this book character by character, word by word, with one finger he was bound and determined to get it published. He hired a literary agency to shop it around the major publishers and when none showed interest that did not stop him. He hired Jones Harvest Publishing, under conditions he specified, to publish and list the book and promote it. Persistence, period.

I have seen this same persistence at the craps table. For example, Bucko is not having a good weekend rolling short hands and seven-outs. Me, I would probably pack it in and come back another day. Not Bucko. I have never seen him pack it in. He looks for the reason and usually finds it. I have seen him make some fantastic comebacks.

Just like his life.

This is a wonderful book and I know you will enjoy reading it.

In his introduction, Jack Zito compares it to Faulkner Novel. You can't get any better praise than this.

Bucko is like a Brother to me; we are all fortunate to have this octogenarian as part of our lives, whether in cyberspace, the real world or both.

Reiner Knizia is the most prolific game designer of our day and this is doubly distressing when you consider that each one of them has its own flavor. With this book, he turned his attention away from the board games and card games for which he's famous and instead focused on dice games. How successful was he in making the switch? He was very successful, that's how.

Throughout the book, he presents each game clearly and concisely, follows that presentation with strategy tips and (frequently) his own personal variations.

So if you have any love for math puzzles, probability, or dice games, order a copy of this book today!

The Best Current Book on Dice Games
Helpful Votes: 9 out of 9 total.

Most of the books I've seen on dice games are short ... pamphlets, really. This is a comprehensive 225-page book that tells you how to play every dice game out there. Explanations are clear and easy to follow. Each entry includes information on strategies and odds and advice on how to win.

The author is extremely knowledgable. For example, he lists all the different names for each game. This is important because so many dice games go under different names in different localities. The index is complete so you can easily look up any game under whatever name it may be known to you.

The game strategy advice is well thought out. It's authoritative and based on statistics but still easy to follow.

This is the first really thorough book on dice games in many years (good older titles are by Scarne and Frey). I recommend it highly to anyone who wants to have some fun and learn a bit too.

Ian Browne, who so ably chronicles the Red Sox for mlb.com, has provided us with a wonderful inside look at one of the most compelling stories from the team's 2007 season. In describing the acquisition and first season of Japanese pitching star Daisuke Matsuzaka, he gives us a clear picture of the business decision making process that brought Dice-K to the team and then thoughtfully interweaves vignettes focusing on cultural diversity, team-building, and the road to a World Series championship. The book is far more than an expanded internet column. Even for those of us who follow the Red Sox all season, this book is a nail-biter. It should provide reading pleasure to both baseball lovers and others interested in the interfaces among business, sports, and intercultural challenges.

There are some players who produce seasons that transcend mere success or failure, and Daisuke Matsuzaka was one of them in 2007. Fortunately, Ian Browne was able to expertly chronicle what became a rivoting story within a story. The book is thorough, insightful and entertaining, more than doing justice to a year-long drama no baseball fan will soon forget.

These are an excellent set of dice for someone who is in need of a set. They are green with some bluish highlights and the set contains 10 dice. The bag, black with red D&D logo, that comes with the dice is a very nice bonus and has plenty of room to expand your dice collection. The dice are a little on the light side,I would prefer them to weigh a little more. The set I bought rolled great right out of the bag and I will probably keep them with me for a long time.Hope this helps.

It's a great way of presenting ways to tackle the issue of erotica in roleplaying. I wish there was a little more about converting some ideas to D20 but I still think this is the best and most professional of erotic roleplaying guides. And it works well, used it with my girlfriend one on one before presenting it to my friends.

Even better than the Book of Erotic Fantasy

There was a huge uproar when the "Book of Erotic Fantasy" was announced and published. That allowed this book to fly under the radar. This is a shame, because this book is far better than its more famous cousin. This book as a real GURPS flavor to it. It covers sexuality in gaming in not just a fantasy setting, but in historical, modern, horrow, and future campaigns. The book is well crafted in that even if you are not using d20, you can easily adapt it for your setting. It does have ready made spells for d20, but this is a bonus, not something which draws away from the rest of the book. In fact, this bok is almost a lesson about sex that every teenager could gain from.

Trust me; this is a book required for any decent game library.

One of my favorite books, all about words - some real, taken out of context, and listed by categories, like: "Light Words" (lissom, sibilant, nimble...), "Names for Elephants" (Wilbur, Bendigo, Wendell Tubb, Deuteronomy...), etc. Other words are completely invented and defined such as "a GONGOZZLER is an idle person who is always stopping in the street and starting at a curious object like a TINGLE-AIREY." The illustrations by Ben Shahn are also wonderful. Great fun to read aloud, and likely to lead to imaginative family word play!

Pair this with Richard Wilbur's Opposites, More Opposites, and a Few Differences.

I had this book as a I kid and I'm thrilled that it's still around. It's meant as a children's book, but I remember all the adults in our household loved it as well. It uses language in the style of Ogden Nash to give odd names to common things. It lists large-sounding names for elephants and matching names for twins. It has it's own style of counting that goes "ounce, dice, trice, quartz, quince, etc." Any child who lovers word play will love this book.

Outstanding History
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2003-10-03
The West Point Word War II series is one of the best sources of history on the Second World War. The Atlases associated with each volume are a must because the text refers to them frequently. The writing style is not overly technical and explains the foundations of military doctrine followed by the respective combatants in prosecuting the conflict.

The authors are able to point out the fundamental errors made by each side, the results of those miscalculations and what adjustments (if any) were made. The correct deductions are also put on display for the reader. And the authors manage to make the conflict dramatic in a professional way. For example, at the battle of Midway the Americans had put all their critical assets at risk. If all the US carriers were lost the situation in the Pacific would have been ruinous. The authors clearly point out that the Japanese fleet was overwhelming, and properly used could not have lost that battle. The American command was counting on Japanese mistakes, and the Japanese made them.

Thus, the West Point historians have injected the true drama of the situation in June of 1942. A lot was on the line and the history of WWII would have been far different if the US admirals had made the mistakes instead of the Japanese.

The entire series is filled with this kind of drama.

The background sections which cover the road to WWII is thought provoking and shows how the outcome of the war, in many respects, was determined prior to the start of hostilities. The books cover the mental attitudes that contributed to the start of the war and the course of the conflict.

The series isn't perfect. The US Army writers find a little time to subtly criticize some actions of the US Navy and US Marines. They seem to like implying the Marines were getting a lot of publicity for doing the same thing the Army was doing. This is a very minor criticism and such minor diversions do not detract at all from the superlative standards set by this very complete history.

Anyone interested in WWII, its causes, conduct and outcomes, must read this set (one book covers the Pacific war and the other the European war - and there is an atlas for each of these volumes for a total of 4 books).

This is a simple, unpretentious study of the dice game Bunco. The author clearly has a love for the game and spent countless hours of research getting to the mysterious roots of this now popular passtime for American women. Her survey is based on only 100 respondants; however, the results are presented in a believable and interesting manner to give a clear picture of not only who is playing this game, but how they are playing it and what they talk about: children, spouses, sex, personal problems. Other interesting stats are that 100% serve food, 79% serve alcohol, and 26% say they regularly use profanity (!) I'll be damned! I particularly liked the anecdotal stories included, which does make this feel like a reflection on a "sisterhood."

I recommend to anyone interested in the history of the game.

This is a lively light hearted book for all those gals who enjoy the game and especially the gathering to play the game. I enjoyed the stories of each group around the country and to know that most of them would fit right in with my group. It's great to know that the game is really about more than dice. It truely is about sisterhood. It is a quick read that will hold your interest til the last page. I found myself wanting to read it over and over.
