Insightful frameworks for an effective PSO Review Date: 2007-05-27
I liked the fact that it is written in a style that is free of any jargon. Authors are professionals who clearly understand the industry from inside. My least favorite part are the diagrams and illustrations which are at best adequate but could be better. Highly recommend this book!
Building professional services in a product-based companyReview Date: 2005-01-10
The book is easy to read, well organized, and packed with sound practical advice you can start applying right away, whether you're in delivery, sales, or marketing -- you'll be going back to it often.

It's focus in on a PS organization of a product company but you can take much away from this book if you are purely a services organization.
What I like the most is that it helps you do begin to address the various challenges where other books gloss over these topics and leave it to you.

Simply the Best. Very Indispensable for Neophytes and OldReview Date: 2005-04-08
The "California Landlord's Law Book: Rights and Responsibilities" covers all ground and gives you more than a legal or business understanding of real estate rental (rare but detrimental scenarios and important topics are discussed, such as Discrimination, Self-Help Evictions, Landlord's Liabilities for Dangerous Conditions and Criminal Acts, etc.)
This law book also contains all the forms you will need, both at the end as apendix and on a CD. The book is very thorough and every new edition stays abreast with the latest rental law changes in California. The only downside (unavoidable) is that every so often NOLO publishes a new edition thus somewhat outdaing previous ones.

You may find why your sexual life is so problematic for youReview Date: 2008-07-19
What is great about this book is it not only makes you understand sex addiction, it gives you many information about how to recover from it.
I also think it is valuable reading for every gay/bi men since it helps in distinguishing to what degree one's sexual adventures are or are not an addictive behaviour.

A Dancer's DelightReview Date: 2003-12-22
As a dancer, I know that one thing you have to maintain is discipline, and with all the tempting recipes out there, it's hard. Surely one of the most attractive things about this cookbook is its pictures. Almost every other page has a beautiful photo of one of the recipes. At the beginning of each chapter, there's a picture of a dancer, and these alone make the book worth buying. Alright, enough said about the images - let's consider the food.
I was really surprised to find that one of my favorite recipes was an appetizer. Edamame, which I'm really not sure how to pronounce, is simply prepared, salted soy beans, which you take out of the pods and eat. They aren't too filling and they make a great replacement for the traditional crackers and cheeseball appetizer.
The second section of the book is devoted to soups. While these aren't entirely easy to make, all the preparation is well worthwhile. The Gazpacho Andazul was my favorite; it's basically a really complicated version of tomato soup. It tastes like something that you would get in a cafe in Europe, but maybe that's just me. There are a lot of spices added in, so if you accidentally overdo it a bit, it can taste rather strong. (By the way, there are a ton of adorable cooking quotes scattered throughout the pages, and for this soup the quote is "Only the pure of heart can make a good soup.")
Moving on to third chapter, the salad selections are phenomenal. There are recipes for European salads, like the Taboulleh with Shredded Baby Spinach, which is really good and the Panzanella, which includes a recipe for the dressing as well. I don't know if you are anything like I am, but I'm not entirely used to gourmet food. I'm the girl who ends up getting the tossed salad and mixed vegetables in most restaurants, so it takes a bit of getting used to. But if you give them a chance, you won't be sorry.
A lot of these recipes are not veg, so you may have to weed through the ones you don't want to try. Lucky for us, there is an entire section devoted to Vegetarian and Meatless Entrees! Many of these recipes took the longest to prepare, especially the Fresh Spinach, Roasted Eggplant, and Mushroom Lasagna. While this took a while, it serves eight and you can easily hang on to the leftovers. There are a lot of other really great meatless recipes including sesame noodles and a really great pizza recipe. But this is one section where some of the more culturally diverse food comes in. The curried banana balls were a bit different, I'll admit, but it doesn't hurt to try them once.
Lastly, we have the land of desserts. No complaints here! These were amazing with a couple of great biscotti recipes and Irish soda bread. There is also an applesauce carrot cake that is to die for.
In the back of the book is a glossary filled with both ballet and cooking terms and more pictures. It's a great ending to a great cookbook. Overall, I would highly suggest adding this to your kitchen. It is a great way to impress any guest that comes along and an even better way to treat yourself.--Courtney Jones

Exceptional bookReview Date: 2003-01-19
It's rare to find an author in the nutrition field
that looks at all sides of the debate
and offers an easily followable, non dogmatic diet.
The book, and the school run by the author - Institute for Integrative Nutrition - are ground-breaking.
Joshua is truly ahead of his time, and I highly recommend this book. The principles and recipes in it have really helped me balance out my blood sugar and have more consistent energy throughout the day.
Outstanding Book in the Field of Health and DietReview Date: 2004-06-06
The other thing I am going to do today is order a gift copy for each of my adult children so that their families can benefit from this valuable information. I want them to know how easily they can enhance their lives with healthy food as presented by Joshua Rosenthal and Tom Monte. Thank you, Mr. Rosenthal, for sharing your life's work in such an appealing and refreshing way!
Not Just a Diet, But a Way of LIFE ! ...Review Date: 2003-09-30
This practical, gradual and safe dietary plan has helped me and my family incorporate healthy food choices and subtle lifestyle changes into our way of life, without feelings of deprivation and frustration, as many other diets have done in the past. We have achieved greater health, higher energy levels, love of life and deeper, more fulfilling relationships.
Unlike so many diet books which I have read, the Energy Balance Diet book is the only one which sheds light on the importance of integrating "Primary Foods" into our daily menus. Foods which often times are more fulfilling than real food. 'Foods' like love, satisfying careers, creativity, physical activity, spirituality, self-expression, friendships, fun, sex!
Realizing how lack of primary foods could create a void in our lives and compromise our mental and physical health was revolutionary to me. The book helped me get clearer on which steps I should take toward achieving a more balanced life and optimal health.
I think the time has come for more people to try a book that offers not only a diet but a whole way of life !
A Holistic View of Food, Nutrition, and EnergyReview Date: 2003-10-17
Joshua's book is very different than other "nutrition" books in that he assumes the readers are intelligent and can figure things out for themselves... with a bit of gentle guidance along the way. The book doesn't present one diet as THE DIET that must be followed... or else! Instead, it explains the way food affects us - our mood, our energy, our cravings, our weight. Then it helps readers figure out what will work best for them, personally. It's a refreshing change from the dogmatic slant of most nutrition books.
I particularly love the chapter which talks about the Energy Balance solution itself, a simple formula for health. It's so beautiful in its simplicity! It doesn't require fancy herbal formulas or expensive supplements to be taken. It requires simple, whole foods and lots of love and self-care.
The part that was most unique to me was the concept of primary foods. Joshua explains hows how primary foods - fitness, career, spirituality, and relationships - affect our health just as much as food does. It's a connection that I intuitively knew, deep down in my heart, but didn't actually recognize until I read this book.
As a holistic health counselor, I use the simple - yet powerful - food and "primary food" concepts in this book as the basis of my healing programs. This is the first book I give to my clients, because we then have a common language around nutrition, energy and healing.

Great Recipes!Review Date: 2004-10-25
WOW! I've had this book for a few months, and I got it used figuring if I didn't like it, no big deal. This week so far I've made the chicken pot pie, sugar cookies, and pumpkin spice muffins. They all have come out wonderfully and you cannot tell they are low-cal!! Tonight I'm making the mustard dill pork chops with pumpnickel stuffing and tomorrow onion & pepper braciole! I bet you didn't think you could eat that stuff and have it come in at under 400 calories!!!
I'm not even a reader of family circle, but this book is probably one of my most used cookbooks :)

Because of this issue, I rarely look in the book when I'm searching for a recipe.
If you have a big family or don't mind freezing leftovers then I would reccomend the book, as the recipes are good. But if you're single or have two people in your household, you might want to look elsewhere for your everyday cookbook.

How To Frame Corporate Strategy MethodicallyReview Date: 2002-09-05
PERSPECTIVE IS EVERYTHINGReview Date: 2000-08-20
Barney sets a model for Competitive Advantage (VIRO) and them compares strategic models as potential sources. It places many of the modern attempts in perspective. Without this starting understanding, the modern gurus (Hamel) are almost impossible to apply as their ideas lack the perspective on the role of strategy within an organisation and within all of the other management tools.
It places Michael Porter within a framework where his work can be better used.
For managers and post graduates, this book sets out the fundamentals of strategy and where it can take you.
Not cheap (by a long way) but a fair price for the knowledge.

Strategy is not that difficult!Review Date: 2000-03-31
I would recommend using the book only after a review of microeconomic concepts. This will allow graduate business students coming from other areas (like engineering) to grasp the strategy concepts more easily.
One suggestion: it would be nice if the authors included cases at the end of each chapter. Since the book presents the theory from a basic up to a more advanced level, this would let students to quickly fix the concepts by applying them in real world situations.

Read it at your own risk: it's going to paint a bleak picture of future mineral resources.
Best book I've ever readReview Date: 2005-07-18
The range of what is covered is so vast I can't do justice to this book, but among other things, you'll learn the role of minerals and wars, civilizations, politics, and overviews of alternative energy sources. You'll emerge with a better understanding of how the world really works, what to invest in, and a deep appreciation of the amazing lives we're leading at this peak of civilization.
After I read this monumental book, I was sad and angry that history was never taught this way while I was in school. If there is one book you should have on your shelf for those who make it through the bottleneck of the coming ecological crash, this is it.
I have read thousands of non-fiction books as I walk to work and back ten miles a day -- this is the most important and life-changing book of all of them.

It is unfortunate that the book is often out of stock and difficult to find.
Bad Tasting Medicine we all need to take...Review Date: 2003-03-14
Let's all hope that technology can deliver us from most of the doom and gloom presented in the book. As a geologist I was familiar with the limitations on our mineral resources but did not construct the relational scenarios that were presented in the book. The "oil interval" of earth history is overlooked by most people even in the sciences. It's far reaching implications points out the severe case of myopia from which our society suffers. The fact that we comsume 60% of our soon to be precious oil for the luxury of being able to run to the convenience store for a pack of gum is also sobering. Buy the book impart the information to your kids.
