Bill Clinton is the embodiment and epitome of American politics in the postmodern, mediated age. Clinton's able marshaling of images, which allowed him to retain popularity and position when faced with compelling obstacles, marks him as the preeminent figure in a fluid and fluctuating era of image-politics. The authors pay particular attention to the collection of disparate, sometimes connected, often random images that create a site of political meaning we know as "Bill Clinton, former president of the United States." Through analyses of unique image texts--including The Man from Hope, The War Room, Primary Colors, MTV's Biorhythms, and PBS' The American President--Constructing Clinton focuses on the image of Bill Clinton as it was defined by and trapped in the hyperreality so characteristic of contemporary presidential politics.

"Just when we thought that there was nothing more that could be said about Bill Clinton, Shawn J. Parry-Giles and Trevor Parry-Giles provide a fresh perspective and new insight on this very complicated former president. Locating their analysis at the convergence of the mediated and the material Clinton, these authors offer a readable and engaging account of hyperreality in the American presidency. Their analysis casts new light on the presidency as an institution embedded in a postmodern mediated political culture. They combine theories from a variety of fields, wielding scholarship from communication, history, and political science with verve and accuracy. The result is a rich, textured, and important contribution for anyone with interests in media, culture, and/or the American presidency."
--Mary E. Stuckey, Georgia State University

"Parry-Giles' hyperreal take on the Clinton presidency is engaging. Bringing together sophisticated theorizing with close visual and textual analysis, it presents Clinton--and, by extension, the modern presidency--as a mass mediated rhetorical construction. Students and not just scholars should find this book most useful."
--Herbert W. Simons, Temple University

Excellent Collection of Articles

This book is a collection of contemporary social constructionist articles on crime. The role of the media in "constructing crime" figures prominently in many of the articles. There isn't another book like this on the market. The articles have been wisely selected to be readable, interesting, and to cover a variety of topics. I list this book as a recommended supplement for the crime and criminal justice classes that I teach. The book provides an excellent introduction to constructionist approaches to crime and would be a suitable complement to a traditional textbook. If you want to understand public (mis)perceptions of crime, I highly recommend the book and the authors (check out their other books!)

I personally found this book to offer a wide variety on essays that deal with patriarchal models of masculine ideals. It is as informing a book on the subject as you will ever be able to come across with, and it deals with more than just the feminist discourse as it offers a new theoretical framework with which to gaze at the male.

I am a retired teacher and former big band saxophonist.Over the years I encountered hundreds or instructional books including ones on improvisation A common approach on this subject is to start the
student learning scales and chords then more scales and chords.Mr.Kane ,who's method of writing, explaining
and organizing is just excellent introduces the subject as a unifying whole. The Blues, due to their relative simplicity, are used through out.All elements of jazz improvisation are introduced from the beginning.
With the examples and the backgrounds on the C.D. the student solos from the start. This book is excellent
for the beginner to the advanced intermediate. It is one of the three best instructional books I have used in
thirty five years.

The Greatest Book on the Office of the Prophet

Review Date: 2001-12-29
I've read and enjoyed many works on deliverance and the office of the prophet, including This Psychic Prophetic Age, Deliverance from Evil Spirits: A Practical Manual, and almost all of Bill Hamon's works, but this book is the most in-depth guide (almost 400 pages) on the office of the prophet that I've seen.

It highlights the various types of prophets, how to identify their makeup and spiritual territory, manifestations of the office, prophetic responsibilities and many other issues associated with the prophet's mantle. I seriously doubt that you'll ever find a book with more information specific to this office, and as you read it, you'll also receive confirmation concerning many of the things that you've sensed or experienced that non-prophets fail to understand, or think you're crazy for mentioning.

Great Scholarship

This text should be on the reading lists for history of psychology courses for years to come. Danziger explores the development of experimental research paradigms in psychology in a broad historical context. Danziger reveals the politics of psychological discourse by emphasizing the role of social context in determining how psychological knowledge claims become legitimate. Although I have a general aversion towards "social constructionism," I was utterly impressed by both the scholarship and authority of this book.
