On His WayReview Date: 2008-06-29
Footfalls had me from the first chapter and would not let me go. The characters were so detailed that I felt like I was in their day-to-day lives. And just like horror fiction should be, it played on the simple fears we all have without resorting to gore.
I know some day I'll be in a book discussion and someone in the group will mention Eddie Gresham's name. I'll tell them I have a signed copy of his first book and no one will believe me.
Tears on your pillow?Review Date: 2008-06-03
A very good thriller that captures real life very well. In fact my favorite part of the book was the romantic subplot. The story was fast paced but never rushed. It's a great book to enjoy on vacation. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next from this promising writer.
A brilliant horror tale, in the perfect setReview Date: 2008-04-01
Footfalls is eerie, chilling, and haunting, but not overly graphic or terrifying; replacing gore with clever hints of danger and the type of steadily-growing tension that puts you on the edge of your seat. It is easy to read, and the short chapters make it easy to put down and pick up -- although I rarely put it down, devouring the entire story over a weekend. Footsteps is well written, well crafted, completely enjoyable, and highly recommended.

A Bible Study for the IPOD Generation!Review Date: 2006-10-26
Galatians: Breakaway to Freedom Bible Study is a refreshing departure from the run-of-the-mill variety. It is soulful, warm, enchanting, and simple to grasp. It is ideally suited to the IPOD generation; relating to them on every level. I foresee this book exploding onto the scene in college/career classes everywhere. It has been said that "only the unmet need can motivate." Anyone exposed to this study will be MOTIVATED because it definitely fills the unmet void in the lives of so many twenty-somethings in this postmodern era. I give this study a resounding 2 thumbs up!

Wonderful book!Review Date: 2004-04-29
I really enjoyed reading this book again after Sister Hinkley's recent passing. It was a fun and enjoyable way to get a peek into her life. She truly had an inspiring spirit, and a magical sense of humor that put everyone around her at ease instantly.
This is a book to be read at times of happiness, or in times of trouble. It is a great gift for any LDS household, and even for those who are not of this faith. There are so many wonderful insights about living and loving in this book.

The heart is where God dwellsReview Date: 2006-05-17
I'm happy to say that the transcript of Father Seraphim's 1981 Santa Cruz talk, "God's Revelation to the Human Heart," comes across as well on the written page as it must've when he gave it to college students a quarter-century ago. Delivered a year before his premature death, it can be viewed as a concise statement of his spirituality.
The purpose of religion (re+legio=to reconnect), says Seraphim, is to "open up contact" with a "reality deeper than the eveyday reality that so quickly changes, rots away, leaves nothing behind, and offers no lasting happiness." In our deep hunger for this reality, we frequently settle on the one hand for effusive experiences that feel good but which don't necessarily lead us to the Truth we seek, or cold, calculative philosophies, which promise to reveal Truth for us but typically wind up dissecting it instead.
What we need do is recognize, as Pascal said in the seventeenth century, that the heart has reasons that the mind knows not. The heart, Seraphim reminds us, is that organ designed to reveal God to us, because the heart is the seat of love, and only love takes us to Truth/reality. That which reconnects us is love. But to love necessarily means to suffer, for in loving we empathically experience the pain of those whom we love. In willingly taking on the cross of suffering, we invite God to crack open our hearts and reveal both Himself (Truth/Reality) and our true identities.
The path of love/suffering defended by Father Seraphim in this lecture, then, takes us to Truth by avoiding gushy sentimentality on the one hand, and detached, rationalistic analysis on the other. His approach is the same as that defended by the Fathers in the first centuries of the Church.
Ironically--sadly--the questions asked of Seraphim by students after his talk (the transcript is included in this volume) suggest that most of his listeners just didn't get the point of what he was saying. The questions tend to be off-subject ("What do Orthodox think about non-Orthodox?" "What's the Apocalypse?" "What does Orthodoxy teach about fasting?"). But one can hope that seeds were planted. Certainly the published version of Seraphim's talk is rich and fertile for those of us fortunate enough to read it. Many thanks to St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood for making it available.

Moon SeriesReview Date: 2006-07-31
Fulton's novels are refeshing and a new spin on each of them, even though the main characters (Cody and Annabel) remain the same.
A novel to take you mind off your troubles. Take this one to the beach with you.
I Can't Believe Fulton Can Keep This Up!Review Date: 2005-07-25
As usual, the setting is Moon Island -- owned by Annabel, Cody, and their daughter Briar. No men are allowed on the island due to an ancient curse, the island's most advanced technology is a short wave radio, and the only way to get there is by plane or boat. Fulton also brings back Chris, a character from Book 3, and introduces a new love interest for this lonely woman.
In Book 4, Lauren Douglas, a famous soap star and daughter of a Senator, is outed by her former girlfriend. Their breakup was immediate after Lauren found her in their shower with a man. Lauren's father hires Pat Roussel to be her bodyguard. Pat has recently had her own share of problems with a seemingly unsolvable case and is on long-term leave from the FBI. Pat's goal is to remain professional and keep Lauren safe, but their hearts get in the way.
On top of it all, there is a boat full of men looking for a lost treasure just off the coast of the island. If you read Book 3, you know why this is a problem (If you haven't, you should!).
Do youself a favor -- go grab a Mai Tai, a plate of fresh pineapple, and some shade then sit down and read this book. It's one you won't soon forget and you'll be craving the next in the series.

Splendid EscapismReview Date: 2005-11-01
Lauren Douglas is a TV soap opera star who is closeted mainly because her father is a Congressman. Lauren's TV contract is up for renewal, but before she can score a new contract, she is outed. The Dr Kate Show uses her "morals'' clause to put her on hiatus with the urging of her father who doesn't want his political future ruined. To make matters worse, a crazy fan that has been stalking Lauren, decides to shoot her, leaving her critically wounded
FBI Special Agent Pat Roussel was burned out with her job. After spending three years searching for a serial killer and getting nowhere, she decides to take a leave-of-absence. However, the idea of staying at home and not working at all loses its appeal after several weeks. Lauren's father offers Pat the job of guarding Lauren, but he wants them out of the country so the two head off to secluded Moon Island. As an FBI agent, Pat takes her responsibility of protecting her charge very seriously, but Lauren has other plans. This conflict leaves the two at odds, leading to much friction. But not all of the tension is unpleasant.
Fulton uses Lauren's and Pat's antagonism for each other skillfully, illustrating through thoughts and actions the different needs and wants of each character. The story builds on this, creating a journey for the two of them. It begins with each having stereotypical views of each other's profession and lifestyle. It progresses to the reluctant acceptance by Lauren of the intrusive nature of being guarded, while Pat is forced to relax her hard-line professionalism and allow her tenderness to surface.
Fulton displays her mastery of sexual tension. Lauren and Pat convince themselves that they are not attracted to each other, but the reader is treated to vivid sexual fantasies that invade their thoughts. It is these revealing thoughts that tell the real story. We, as the reader, are just wondering when the two protagonists will figure out what they want. The reader must wait, and this wait is excruciating. Fulton continually teases us throughout this story, but in the end the author knows what she needs to do and executes it brilliantly.
A Guarded Heart is a journey of growth and self-discovery for Pat and Lauren. One cannot help but root for them, and in so doing, we are totally absorbed in this delightful story.

THIS BOOK!
EECP is the #1 Heart Theraphy in China!
Buy this book and then learn why the almighty ($) based Western Medicine is much more apt to "operate", than the less invasive based (less trama and less bleeding) Eastern methods.
EECP has already been approved by the FDA for Angina!
It also works on, and CURES, Congestive Heart Failure, (since it "renews" the Heart muscle itself and is refered to as the "Natural By-pass")! It, (EECP), has also shown great results with other diseases, like Alzhiemer's, Parkinson's, Sexual Dysfunction and even Diabetes.
But it does have a very notable side effect! Most patients lose
10-12 pounds after a course of treatments! So, we might have to throw in, weight-loss!
If you have a loved one going through the pain and suffering of the current Heart treatments, you, NEED, TO BUY THIS BOOK!
EECP - passive exercise - super benefitsReview Date: 2006-03-01
( I take notes on each of the 200+ books I read each year)
Alternate names: virtual exercise, passive exercise, deep tissue massage, big squeeze (austistic?)
The 35 session program strengthens the cardio system - by applying pressure at the right time during each heart beat. Makes it much easier for the patient to get into exercise later.
Stronger and become better able to deliver more blood, oxygen, and nutrients.
Typically needs to have second treatment in 5 years - similar to by-pass and other heart treatments. Far less expensive than US invasive techniques.
35 session treatment plan was established in China. China now has 1,800 EECP centers (US has 650 locations) . 74% of Chinese patients maintained improvement for at least 7 years pg 58. Also patients were 4X less likely to suffer a cardiac death in the following 8 years. Chinese doctor's salary, until several years ago, was based on keeping person healthy, not on treating problems. 1 million Chinese have had EECP treatment. They use it for a wide variety of circulatory conditions, including strokes, Parkinson's disease, and visual impairments (pg 59)
Blood flow is critical to Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Ancient Egyptian Medicine, and Ancient Greek Medicine pg 34
EPA approval for chronic stable angina and cardiogenic shock, then in 2002 congestive heart failure pg 61
There was a successful double-blind test of EECP in 1999.
Which prompted Medicare to being paying for that treatment for that heart problem in that year.
Very impressive international Angina statistics on page 75. 5,000 patients,
140 centers, patients had been diagnosed with heart problems for 10 years on average,
85% had undergone at least one bypass surgery or angioplasty or stent previously
42% had diabetes
32% had congestive heart failure
84% were deemed inoperable
Results after 3 years: 35% no angina, % of patients with 4 obstructed arteries went from 23% down to 5%
In the US, EECP is used for Stable Angina. Elsewhere it is used for both stable and unstable (comes on suddenly) angina - success rate being 74% and 80% respectively.
Her report on use with elderly: 24 patients with average age = 85.
96% reduced symptoms, increased activity level, and improved physical mobility - all with no adverse events. 81% maintained the benefit for at least 1 year.
Diabetes (9.5% of population) and EECP
Study of 658 patients with diabetes and symptomatic heart disease.
87% has previously had invasive procedure and were not candidates for additional surgery.
69% responded favorably and
72% still had benefits 1 year later.
None worsened. Also improved blood sugar control pg 106
Also helpful with Rheumatoid Arthritis (1% of population),
tinnitus decreased significantly in 47% after just 5-10 sessions (pg 102),
Some forms of deafness and blindness are also treated by Chinese with EECP
She believes that EECP gets you to the next fitness level, from whatever level you are at. pg 111
Sleep better; a side affect reported by many patients
While EECP is now offered to patients as treatment of last resort, various studies indicate that it could be the first treatment for heart disease. pg 123
2.4 million Americans have coronary artery disease and are considered to be inoperable. pg 123
Vasomedical leading manufacturer - 650 locations in the US 800 455 3327 www.naturalbypass.com
Washington as of Feb 2006: Seattle, Yakima, Long View, Vancouver
Poor blood flow -> blockages.
So she feels that need to work on better flow, not cleanup the consequence of poor flow. pg 124
EECP was first developed in US 30 years ago, but then widely adopted and evolved in China
Future: she believes that it will become the first treatment for heart disease, and perhaps even a way to prevent heart disease. pg 160
The only non-invasive, not the only non-surgicalReview Date: 2007-09-27
On the down side, I was tempted to give the book 4 stars since the author trashes chelation therapy (on pg.190) but in all honesty, the EECP treatment if not the book, does deserve 5 stars! Braverman states that chelation therapy is unproven, 'harmful - even fatal - when administered to the wrong person'. I don't agree. Perhaps she is so sold on EECP that she felt it unnecessary to research chelation therapy. Having worked in a chelation clinic for over 10 years, it's my opinion that Chelation and EECP could produce far better results in tandem than either modality used alone and there seems no reason why they could not be used simultaneously, if not synergistically. After all the negative comments, there is one redeeming sentence at the end where she states "Chelation does not interfere with EECP, so you may undergo both therapies if you choose" p.191. I would be surprised if Dr Julian Whitaker, MD (from the Foreword) doesn't use both in his practice. Like chelation therapy, EECP requires some maintenance treatment down the track whether it be 1, 2 or 5 years later. A full course of EECP runs about $6,000 (covered by insurance) over 7 weeks; a full course of chelation runs about $2,000-3,000 over 10 weeks.

A Magnificent Life-Saving BookReview Date: 2006-04-26
It shows, only too clearly, that the vast majority of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are declining to advise patients of this option until the patients are so far gone from invasive efforts that no more can be done surgically.
At this point, if ever, these exhausted patients are told about EECP only to discover that it will work even for them.
The book also shows how double standards are used by professional entities to demand ever more "gold standard" studies of the efficacy of EECP while surgical methods, used universally, are not required to meet the same standards and, indeed, cannot ethically be tested to these standards anyway.
I learned about EECP from a Life Extension Magazine article, researched it myself and insisted on trying it. My decent and loving cardiologist readily agreed to the procedure once I raised it, agreed with my reasoning ( mainly non-invasive procedures before invasive ones), and said it had helped some of her patients. But had she told me about it before I insisted on trying it? No.
I read this book only after receiving my first EECP treatment and it explained to me, among other things, why I needed less nitroglycerine walking the dog even after one treatment of the thirty-five recommended! I do hope that all sufferers will read this book and, then, give a copy to their cardiologist.
Faced with this inspiring and documented book, I think your cardiologist will accept your wishes--as mine did--and that, in the end, the cardiology profession itself will be forced to come to its senses.
