I really like this book because it comes from various survivors. They tell their stories. This is positive from a theraputic standpoint when working with survivors of sexual abuse.

As a therapist who has done considerable work with incest and sexual abuse, I give this the highest rating. I think it makes an important contribution to the field and particularly to people of any age, gender or sexual orientation that are dealing with their own recovery. It is sensitive and soulful.

I have not suffered childhood abuse but was recommended this book as a source of inspiration and education on helping people to face and overcome the abuse they've suffered and suppressed for years. This book is a breath of fresh air for victims and friends interested in helping loved ones heal persistent, bottled up wounds; it provides hope and can be a great source of inspiration for all readers.

I recommend this awesome book for all survivors of abuse

I purchased two copies of this great book for Christmas. One for myself and another for a survivor that wrote me after she read my story of abuse in the local paper, the Rock River Times. Speaking as a victim of a brutal rape at the age of 13 by a priest, this book deals with all aspects of stories told by victims/survivors of sexual abuse in all areas. The abuse itself, the relentless shame that comes with it, coming forward, going public, getting the much needed medical help, finding the strength, truth, faith and hope to live because so many do not. Those that took their lives are so often forgotten and we should never stop fighting for what happened to them at the hands of these perpetrators. There are many books that deal with facts and figures regarding sexual abuse but this book has a wealth of information for survivors to utilize. It would be great to see more books of this nature published to help calm the minds and souls of so many survivors and their families that thirst for this knowledge. It gives contacts, websites, phone numbers, etc., for organizations such as SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, The Healing Alliance (LINKUP), Male Survivor, CONTACT crisis lines, and much more. Simply put, buy this book, survivor or not - it'll warm your heart, educate you in the process and bring a tear to your eyes. Thanks for reading my review and peace be with you, always.

My son and I were very fortunate to have had 17 wonderful years with Ron. He was a wonderful husband and father. He died on September 4, 2005. Aurora's book gave me great comfort in knowing that someone else understood the depth of my loss. I read "From Heart Break to Happiness", and I go back to it often when I am feeling down, or just want to feel less alone in my journey of grief. Aurora's book is a comfort and an inspiration, and a wonderful gift to anyone you love.

With my heavy course load, the last thing thing I wanted to do was read another book. But when I picked up Aurora's book, I read it cover to cover in one day. I couldn't put it down. It gave me more valuable insight into healing and the human spirit than all my other text books combined. "Struggling and Soaring with Angels" is more therapeutic than any medicine.

I'm not giving away the ending by saying Ms. Winter emerges from her personal tragedy healed, centered and strong. The book itself gives that away...at nearly every turn of the page, you catch a glimpse of Ms. Winter's bright, confident smile from her photo on the back flap. No matter which dark moment you've just read, there she appears, smiling back at you, as if to say YOU can come through your grief, too.

Whatever loss or tragedy may have befallen you, I hope you'll find a quiet, comfortable spot to read this honest and compelling personal odyssey. Ms. Winter is not some pontificating PhD, but a fellow human who managed to rise above the pit of overwhelming despair. As you read her magnificently written daily entries, and perfectly selected quotes, you realize you are not alone. You begin to comprehend a bigger picture. And you draw comfort and strength from her own healing.

Please give this book to a loved one or friend who is struggling with personal loss. And if that person is you, come share the light at the end of the tunnel with Aurora Winter.

This little book is amazingly accurate in providing just the insight I need to see things from a deeper perspective. I have been using this book on a daily basis by asking for what I need and then opening it to whatever page feels right. Every time it has provided information that has either been very clearly what I needed, or after journaling about it, I have understood it from a different perspective. I am grateful that a friend recommended it to me.

In Islam, God is said to have 99 names besides "Allah." This refers to terms used in the Qur'an to describe the various qualities He possesses (e.g. the Patient, the Giver of Life, the Oft-Returning, and so on). What Douglas-Klotz has done is taken each of the 99 names (and the name "Allah") and interpreted them according to his own impressive knowledge of Semitic linguistics and an intuitive approach to etymology that yields insights that a strict academic interpretation would miss. He links his interpretations to various stories, poems and sayings from the Islamic/Sufi traditions: Rumi, Rabia, Hazrat Inayat Khan, and many others. He also presents numerous stories about the mythical half-sage, half-clown Mullah (Hoja) Nasruddin, which are very amusing (In one, Mullah decides to revolutionize the carrier pigeon business by cross-breeding them with talking parrots!).

After each interpretation, the author presents a possible scenario from the reader's life, based upon scenarios most people do in fact face from time to time, and then suggests how this particular name might be of use in getting through this scenario. Finally, he presents a meditation (sometimes two) on each name, some classic Sufi meditations but others more contemporary. Some meditations are designed for walking, which I find very useful.

Finally, there is a brief biographical sketch of each person cited in the book, and contact information for many Sufi organizations.

This book will help anyone interested in exploring Sufi mysticism, mysticism in general, or anyone who just wants to learn new meditative techniques. In the process, you'll read some very insightful and entertaining texts from across the centuries.

This is an excellent book full of humor and wisdom. I just purchased my second copy as I have used it almost every day for over two years to read and remember a pathway. I even take it with me when I travel and have given several copies to friends and family. The Sufi Book of Life is one of my favorite resources of comfort and inspiration. It is a tool to connect with my inner life. I use it to set the theme for my day and/or read it just before I settle in for the night. I treasure this book.

This book is very inspiring and comforting. Ever see the movie "MirrorMask"? This is the RL equivilant of "A very useful book" at least as far as spiritual/mystic questors go. But its not a key to bending spoons, or casting curses, or trying to figure out lottery numbers. It's a key to finding peace with yourself and the universe and god, infinitely more powerful and valuble.

Inspiring, accessible, and very usable spiritual information

The information for each pathway is only a few pages long (so you can read a short section with coffee in the morning), but it is packed with wonderful insights, inspiration, and most importantly ways to really use the information. Each pathway has a suggested meditation and ideas for integrating the concept into your life. Wonderful book!

I found the book to be user friendly. The authors explain medical terminology very well and give you devices for remembering what you've absorbed. It's comprehensive but one can take a few pages at a time to see the whole picture eventually. You can also go directly to any chapter that interests you the most and it will be clear even without reading the preceding chapters first.

Surviving with Heart: Taking Charge of Your Heart Care is a very readable book chock full of information written by Darrell Trout, a survivor of heart disease and Ellen Welch, caretaker to her father following his quadruple bypass surgery. Grounded in the realities of Healthcare in the 21st Century with all the technological advances and the practical realities of the healthcare delivery system (e.g., the shortage of nurses and ancillary staff) this is a must read for all healthcare consumers and their families. Well researched and delivered, this book provides up to date and understandable information about the latest technology, procedures, and their empirically based value. Specific tips are given regarding how to choose your healthcare provider and how to prepare yourself for each medical encounter. It is a call to action for patients and their families to be involved participants in healthcare, to not do so could be deadly. This is a serious book that balances realism, empowerment, optimism and a good measure of humor.

Basics of anatomy and physiology are given in an interesting way, along with numerous facts related to health and wellness. Quotes from literary and historical sources, along with numerous personal stories by the authors and other survivors and caretakers, bring the hard facts home. As a family and health psychologist and a nurse practitioner, I was pleased to see the integration of the psychological and family aspects of cardiac health. Seligman's work on the importance of optimism is cited, along with very good guidelines related to family members taking care of themselves and the myriad of emotions that are likely to get triggered along the way. This is a user-friendly book that can be read cover to cover or as a reference book, depending upon the readiness and current need of the reader. Both survivor's and caretakers are likely to resonate with Surviving with Heart in terms of being understood and that others have walked their journey.

Very practical suggestions are provided related to sex, exercise, nutrition, stress management and shifting to a heart healthy lifestyle. Since heart disease often presents differently in women, a section is devoted to this area. I have recommended this book to psychology, nursing, and physician colleagues as well as to clients and friends. For healthcare providers who enjoy partnering with their patients in their care, this is a book well worth recommending.

Taneesha's Treasures Of The Heart is a young adult novella by M. LaVora Perry and sparsely illustrated in black-and-white by Chris R. Seaman. Taneesha is a young girl who stands up to bullies for the sake of her best friend. The power of understanding to unlock kindness in the human heart is a core theme of this inspirational and highly recommended story, which will also admirably serve to present a Buddhist approach to such friendship issues as faith, hope, and courage.

Taneesha's Treasures of the heart is a fantastic example of true friendship, heart and compassionate understanding! It shows that through a compassionate and understanding spirit, one can maintain good friendship and achieve the best of happiness regardless of race or religion. Ms. Perry's Buddhist perspective on happiness via friendship and compassion is an excellent example on how kids should treat situations of bullying and harassment from their peers. I loved this great book, and its a delightful gift to give a kid in any day. Kudos.

TANEESHA'S TREASURES OF THE HEART resonates with messages of kindness, friendship, and the social conflicts that children sometimes encounter while growing up. Our protaganist, Taneesha Bey-Ross, has been taught by her parents to treasure her friendship with her best friend Carli Flanagan because it is something special...something from the heart. Though they are different races and practice different religions, the girls are inseparable and hold tight to the strength of their friendship.

M. Lavora Perry has presented a wonderful story with loving characters that will inspire while teaching children the importance of hope, faith, and friendship. This book is a much needed treat that should be placed in every classroom across the country. ...

This story filled with kindness and tolerance is an excellent read for all ages!

As a student, I am very interested in pursuing my career in education. Reading Teacher Talk gave me an excellent idea of what to expect and how to deal with many of the issues faced everyday in and out of the classroom. I was beyond pleased with the knowledge and ideas I have taken from this book.
Some examples of the topics discussed are--dealing with the parents who want to know what, where, when, and how you teach, the child who performs below grade level, parent conferencing, the child caught cheating, the parents who are too involved, and much much more. This book covers all aspects of teacher responsibilities starting with open house in September to communicating with yourself in June. Teacher Talk made me realize that communicating with my students is only a very small portion of my duty as a teacher. Parents are essential. If I can communicate and gain the parents support, I will reach my goal of becoming a very inspiring teacher.
The most beneficial portions of this book, in my opinion, were the suggestions revealing how to deal and communicate with parents effectively. Teacher Talk explicitly addresses many real life scenarios. Following these scenarios are suggestions and guidelines that can be used to overcome many obstacles. Most parents go to the extreme to see their kids succeed and we as teachers must be fully prepared to handle any of their concerns.
Another useful aspect of Teacher Talk is the countless amounts of already made worksheets located at the back of the book. These worksheets are helpful on the organizational side of things. Some examples of the worksheets are open house sign in form, transportation form, parent/teacher phone log, day of conference check-list, parent communication survey, and many more. These pre-made worksheets are a great help to anyone who is interested in teaching.
I suggest Teacher Talk for anyone who is pursuing a career in education. There is no such thing as a perfect teacher, so why not try to advance your skills with opening yourself up to new ideas?

The sad thing about this book is that our educational system is in such a state that a book like this is necessary. In "Teacher Talk!" the authors detail all the most common situations you are likely to find while teaching and how to use effective communication to handle it. The coverage is extensive and includes situations like dealing with the overzealous parent at open house, the parent who wants to talk daily just before school, the parent who gossips about the child or about you, the parent who mistakenly believes their child is gifted, the child who is gifted, the child whose performance is declining, habitually truant children, bullies, the student caught cheating or stealing, parental questions on testing and test results, and dozens of other situations. The book is laid out in a workbook style full of notes, reminder lists, examples of various written communications, self-evaluations, sign-in forms, forms for a parent to request a conference, forms for a teacher to request a conference, guidelines sheets, phone logs, behavior observation charts, and just about anything else that you could possible ask for or anticipate needing. By having established policies that are clear and easy to understand the teacher keeps control not only of her students, but also of his or her time. Anyone just starting to teach in the educational system or trying to create an effective communication system between students, parents and the teacher will find a lot of valuable information and forms in this book.

Perfect book for every teacher and principal who wants to communicate effectively. Great advice for educators. Wind your way through more than 50 school situations and learn tips, find worksheets and sample letters for handling each of them. From the overzealous parent at open house to the parent who feels his child gets too stressed about a test to giving a child another opportunity on a project. Organized by the school year. The graphics are amazing and will keep you reading. If you're a new teacher this is invaluable, if you're a returning veteran-- you can always use some extra help on a tough day - this is it. One of a series of books aimed for the school workplace. Cheli is amazing and her partner and the graphics dude did a terrific job.

As I high school basketball coach and fan in general, I really loved this book. The writer, a high school english teacher, clearly describes how his attachment to his school's team has been one of the greatest joys and loves of his life. I love the line where he says that because of his attachment to the kids and the basketball program, being a high school english teacher has always and will always be enough for him. Highly recommended for anyone, sports fan and non sports fans alike.

My English teacher read this book to our class while we read Homer's Odyssey to contrast the modern epic to the classic epic. I must say that Craver's epic is much more gripping than that of Homer and provides a fantastic story for any sports or literature lover. It managed to capture my attention just after hearing the first few sentences. The cover doesn't do this book justice either, so don't judge the content of the story by it. Also, for me, the story takes place right in the Northern Virginia/Fairfax area so I know exactly the schools that Craver is talking about. Highly recommended.

John Eldredge is sensitive, thoughtful, and manly in
his approach to restoring the masculine soul to its
rightful place in the Christian Church and daily life.
His insights can change your whole perspective on what
"Christian" and "man" and "male" can mean in the context
of the heroic qualities of Jesus Christ and living for
Him in very wise and practical ways.
I cannot recommend these books enough. John Eldredge has
done a great service to both men and women in defining

masculine leadership in a very biblical and necessary manner
as over against the modern-day version of wimpy
(almost passive) men and overly aggressive women that tends
to leave both genders into places of confusion, strife, and
misery. Here's the antidote.

OK, before I start, let me just say that I own each of these separately (the first in paperback), and, having seen so many mistaken reviews of these 3 books on the Amazon pages devoted to the original books, I thought this would be a good way to express my thoughts on all three books at once.

These books are wonderful! The Sacred Romance really is moving, especially for those (like me) who grew up partially raised under the subtly unexpressed (but nonetheless present) viewpoint that God did not create the imagination but that it was something that only showed up in mankind after the Fall of Adam & Eve. This book shows that idea up for the religious woodfluff that it is. Not only did God create us as imaginative creatures, He made the imagination a vital part of His image in us!

The Journey of Desire was equally good (if not better), showing that the Pharisee is still alive and well in the (visible) Body of Christ today, and still deserving of the same judgement Jesus handed down in Matthew 23:4. "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites, for you tie up heavy burdens and load men down with them, nearly breaking their backs, while you yourselves lift not even a finger to help them." Desire, contrary to what twisted versions of Puritanism have taught, can be a good thing if it is submitted to the lordship of Jesus first. (And no, that does not mean suppressing every desire we have.)

Wild at Heart was good as well, showing that living from the heart (the new heart God promises in Ezekiel, that is) will lead a man not only to Christlikeness, but freedom to be who God made him to be, as well.

Bottom line?

Eldredge's books are part (I might almost say a central part) of a ministry to WOUNDED people first. Those Christians who have already been healed of their emotional wounds (fortunate few) will undoubtedly react differently to his books than those who have been beat up by life in a fallen world and are unafraid/unashamed to admit it. Remember what Jesus said? "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick." (Matthew 9:12) If you're not emotionally sick or wounded, you don't need this man's works. If you are, they're indispensable!

It wasn't clear to me from the description whether or not this item contained three separate and individual hardcover books, or if this was a single "three-in-one" book with all the pieces bound together. I am happy to report that the item has three separately-bound and individual hardcover books.

I found this book pretty cheap at a local grocery store and it was an instant hit! The story is a cumulative mouthful, but well worth the read to a group of children. The great thing about cumulative books is that the kids want to finish the pages for you. The illustrations are magnificent and bold. Very colorful and fill the page. The right type face was definatly chosen!

Through The Heart Of The Jungle is the collaboratively effort of author Jonathan Emmett and illustrator Elena Gomez. Young readers are taken on an adventure through the heart of the jungle. They will find a buzzing fly is not alone because there is a spider waiting to gobble the fly. A toad is right behind the spider, and so on and on until the chain of predator and prey leads up to the lion! The rhythmic text is perfectly showcased with lush, colorful artwork making Through The Heart Of The Jungle a popular and recommended addition to any personal or library picture book collection.

There are many children's books on the market today and as a parent, I am always on the lookout for something special, a book that grabs the imagination of my son and delights him in a magical way. This book, and Ms. Gomez' illustrations in particular, create a wonderful world of colors and creatures that my son has responded to in the most wonderful way. Through the Heart of the Jungle has become a instant favorite and one that I enjoy reading to him time after time. Do yourself and your child the greatest favor and add this book to your collection. You will both delight in the experience.

A book your kids will remember when their old and grown!

I bought this book for my seven year old son, but I think I enjoy reading it and looking at the pictures just as much as he does. The artwork is wonderful and the words have a great rhythm that almost turns the pages for you. If you want a book that your children will love right now and a book that they will hold on to, to read to their own children some day, then this is a must have!
