Jeanne McDermott paints an inspiring portrait of her own family, forced to understand and live with the trials and hardships that accompany a child born with Apert Syndrome. She tells the story of Nathaniel with grace and candor informing the reader along the way with insights into the medical, genetic and developmental aspects of this condition. I cried with her pain and embraced her joys through the trials and triumphs of this journey. For anyone who has had a child born with a medical condition this is a must read.

I love this book. My 2 1/2 year old son went through four surgeries in his life time and I can so relate to the recall of ICU's and operating rooms. My son also has a form of dwarfism and will be different. I love her philosophy, so much peace and forgiveness to stranger's rudeness! She has so eloguently speak of the growth that any parent of child with differences have experienced. Babyface will be kept close to my heart forever and I recommend this book to all parents who are struggling with the challenge of bring up a child with a difference. In time, you too will gather the strength and peace demonstrated so well and articulated by Ms. McDermott.

A Texas-Sized Tale of Unexpected Love

Review Date: 2008-07-14
Essie Spreckelmeyer is the last woman anyone in Corsicana, Texas, expected to see with a man on her arm. Independent and outspoken, she's known more for riding bicycles in outrageous bloomers than for catching a man's eye.

And the last man who seems willing to give her a second glance is Tony Morgan, newly hired at Spreckelmeyer's oil company. The disinherited son of an oil baron, Tony wants most to restore his name and regain his lost fortune --- not lose his heart to this headstrong blonde. She confounds, contradicts, and confuses him. Sometimes he doesn't know if she's driving him toward the aisle or the end of his rope.

That's how life is... DEEP IN THE HEART OF TROUBLE.

Essie Spreckelmeyer, the town's spinster, has a reputation as a forward thinking woman; she's president of the Velocipede Club, has appeared in the newspaper, runs her father's oil company and has the audacity to wear bloomers. When Tony Morgan comes to town, he's not overjoyed about having a woman boss, yet she intrigues him on a personal level. Essie refuses to have a relationship with one of her employees, but Tony eventually wins her over. Each has a secret that could destroy their relationship. When a murder and a lynch mop are interjected, anything can happen in the small town of Corsicana, Texas.

I thought this book was a wonderful conclusion to Essie's story! While I didn't think there was as much humor in this book as there was in the last one (or in her first two novels), I did still find myself laughing in a few places. The other characters in the story were portrayed beautifully, especially Mrs. Lockhart with her romantic novels. :o) Also, there was a bit of a twist at the end that I did not see coming. Part of me almost wishes there was another book about this wonderful town in the works!! I'd love to read about Anna Morgan....but sadly, I think we've heard the last from the town of Corsicana.

Fun, romantic comedy that doesn't disappoint!

This is the follow-up to "Courting Trouble" and it does an excellent job of taking us further into the lives of those living in Corsicana, Texas. I enjoy Deeanne's writing style as it is fun and swift and the settings are a hoot. The characters are so eccentric that you just want to move down to Corsicana and settle down with everyone. Of course, that is impossible as it is historical fiction and set back in time before cars freely roamed the streets. But still... you catch what I mean.

Deeanne is not afraid to push the envelope and I feel it necessary to let you know that. In a way I find that very admirable, but it will make some people uncomfortable. It is not as obvious in this book as it is in "Courting Trouble", but the consequences of what happened in that 1st book are dealt with in this book. I enjoyed it but I do want you to be aware that even in that day and time she touches on some heavy issues.

All in all I do like her writing style though and I would recommend this book.

A sequel that is better than the first!

I am a big fan of Deeanne Gist's writing, but I was sorely disappointed by her third book, "Courting Trouble." I still can't quite exactly put my finger on why; it had a wonderfully unique plot with vivid descriptions of the time period, and lively characters. I think my problem with the novel may have been that I wasn't wild about the main character, Essie. Despite her outgoing personality and her attitude that she can do most anything she wants even though she's a woman, I found her to be a bit too simpering and naïve and she just grated on my nerves. I could have just chalked it up to the time period Essie was set in, but I know that Gist has never let that stop her from creating beautifully multi-dimensional and memorable characters before.

I picked up "Deep in the Heart of Trouble", Gist's fourth novel and the sequel to "Courting Trouble" simply because I believe in Gist as an author, and I didn't want to let the little fact that I am not a fan of her character keep me from enjoying her latest work. I was so pleasantly surprised to find that in the four years that had passed in the storyline between the two books, Essie grew up and became a character that I quickly fell in love with! She had learned a few lessons from her past and became a better, more well-rounded woman for it. I also loved that Gist added a little mysterious twist to the book, which brought along excitement and adventure... I don't want to give away too much, so I won't say anything more about that.

"Deep in the Heart of Trouble" is another wonderful example of how Gist bucks the traditional storyline for Christian Fiction, thus making her novels enjoyable to all readers regardless of their faith. While her characters are still conveying good Christian morals and a redeeming message of God's constant love and benevolence, her works, this book included, fail to be sappy or preachy. They tell tales of love and heartache and humor and joy that just about everyone can relate to and enjoy. This is not your typical novel from a Christian publisher, and I think most of us can whole-heartedly agree that that is a GOOD thing!

First of all, I'm a big fan of Ms. Manees!

I've read "All For Love" which remains one of my all-time favorites! This book runs a close second. At first I was a little leary about reading a book about church and a minister,
but I enjoyed this book very much.

It's refreshing to find a person, though surrounded by temptation, to remain true to her principles and teachings.

Although they were criticized and talked about,
Tammi & Ty remained steadfast and strong.

However, I have a small criticism: Unsure if those choosing
the Book Covers actually READ the books, but again
this cover doesn't describe the characters.

The models look like teenagers-especially the man
when Ty was described as more mature than shown on the cover.

Although Tammi was younger, I pictured her
a little older and more mature than the model
shown.

My thoughts are: s
Since the first thing people see are the Book Covers,
my wish is that Ms. Manees' publishers would chose the Cover
AFTER reading the book. Or she could offer suggestions
if possible.

If they couldn't find realistic models,
again they could have use symbols:
musical, a microphone, or even a church!

Other than the cover, I enjoyed this book very much!

Pleasant and enjoyable

At first I had reservations about reading this book. A romance novel with a minister? Little did I know, I was in for a great story. Tammi (Meeko) Moore is a beautiful young lady with a gifted voice. She returns to her home town for a visit and meets Rev. Tyler Barnett. Love at first sight. The two face many obstacles from drama of church members to Meeko's manager but they overcame them. Excellent novel with a Christian persective. I highly recommend this one. Raynette, this is my first time reading your work. Good Job! Be Blessed.

I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvved this book. I was so inspired, intrigued and engross in the characters,I could barely put it down. I read the whole book in less than 2 days I really loved Meeko for not forgetting her heritage. She was just like you and me, with real dreams, goals and aspirations. Though she found herself in many compromising positions she was still able to gird herself up and come to a place of stability. She went on to become a Grammy Winner with the thunderous voice that God gave her. She was definitely raised and not just brought up.

She wanted to be obedient to her parents, even though she lived in a different state. There were times I empathized with her, I was on pins and needles for her. Wanting all her dreams to come true. But her shady manager wasn't making things any better. She was living under a lot of pressure trying to make sure she made the right moves staying in touch with her innerself. From the way she dressed to the way she talked and the songs she sung.

Meeting Ty Barnatt, who became the Love of her life, it was right up my alley. I was too excited to find out how it ended. Soon meeting Ty and moving back home, became one of the biggest decisions she had to make. Her career depended on it and so did her life. Easy reading, fast paced and a must for your library.

An unparalled spiritual journey

To say that Roy Neuberger's book entitled "From Central Park to Sinai" was a real page turner, is a definite understatement. This most engrossing and captivating book details the story of a personal transformation of a man searching for spiritual meaning and purpose in his life. The grandson of a great rabbi and founder of the "Mussar" movement in Judaism, Rabbi Yisroel Salanter, Roy Neuberger's life couldn't be further apart from that of his grandfather. Educated in the traditions of ethical culturalism, Mr. Neuberger felt an ever present spiritual vacuum in his life and as such he embarked on a personal quest for truth, via the study of Catholicism, Protestantism and a whole host of other religions and value systems. He even wrote a book detailing why these other religions and their credos were superior to that of Judaism and why Judaism held no meaning.

Accompanying Mr. Neuberger on his trajectory towards spiritual fulfillment was that of his beloved wife, Linda, also a student of ethical culturalism. The fear and uncertainty that plagued Mr. Neuberger throughout his life could be simply termed as a man living through a perpetual anxiety attack with no relief in sight.

It would seem that G-d heard the inner cry and pain of Mr. Neuberger, and as destiny would have it, he was guided in the direction of Rebbetzen Esther Jungreis. That night in Neuburgh, NY changed the course of an entire generation of Neubergers. Mr. Neuberger was deeply impressed with Rebbetzen Jungreis' Torah message and he began to attend her classes on a weekly basis, despite the hardship of traveling such a long distance during a fuel crisis. Rebbetzen Jungreis served as a conduit to bring the message of G-d's love and compassion to a man who hungered and thirsted for spiritual guidance and meaning. In essence, Mr. Neuberger began to fall in love with G-d, embracing His Torah and commandments.

Since that time, Mr. Neuberger and his wife have raised a beautiful family steeped in Torah values and has spread his joy and understanding of spiritual truth with hundreds of people who he has invited to his home to enjoy the uplifting experience of Shabbos.

Mr. Neuberger's story will not only inspire, but will captivate the heart and soul of the reader. It is a must read for anyone searching for guidance and truth and even for those who are not searching for anything in particular. It is a welcome addition to any library and will remain within the recesses of the soul for posterity.

Inspiration That Massages Your Soul

Roy Neuberger's journey to find himself is extremely inspiring. It goes to show you that a man can have all the money in the world, but without a some spiritual guidance, what is he really living for? In some ways his wealthy background was a great hinderance to him. His parents did not give Roy all the proper attention and guidance as the Ethical Cultural Schools merely confused his thinking.

Finally after 31 years, a colleague woke him up to the fact that he is a Jew whether he realizes it or not. Mr. Neuberger finally realized that he was not giving his own heritage a chance. Finally he asked to visit a synagogue with a friend and it so happened the Rebbetzin Jungeris was speaking there that night. At that point a chain reaction fo events triggered in Mr. Neuberger's brain that this was answer he was looking for.

The rest of the book consists of many powerful miracles based on prayer and faith in G_d. Although many of the stories are repeated from Esther Jungeris' The Committed Life, it is still a pleasure read about people turning their lives around by believing the Power of the Jewish Religion. Judaism encourages its followers to be strong and persist towards acheiving happiness and overcoming obstacles.

This book will make you believe in miracles even if you are not Jewish. An inspiration to us all.

Mr. Neuberger is a very enthusiastic and sincere man of faith, and these qualities shine through in his book.

This book has the power of spiritual elevation reinforced by a sense of personal discovery.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in religion, who can appreciate religion as an experience where personal growth and community involvement are not contradictory; but, parallel and mutually reinforcing.

Roy Neuberger's personal story has a strong message even for non-Jews and for people who are not religious. His personal search for God is very moving and is written in a charming, conversational style. I was especially taken with his numerous stories about he and his wife, Leah, helping so many people from various walks of life. There are important messages in this book that will help all of us to live better and more enriching lives.

This was a heartfelt story of a mensch who was dissatisfied with the lack of spirituality in bland liberal universalist culture in which he was raised. Eventually, he found true joy in Jewish orthodoxy. However, if you're pondering deep metaphysical issues, you'll find assertions here, but not deep abstract notions of different "isms" and why they are true or not. I was also uncomfortable with the assertion that Jewish assimilation caused the Holocaust.

The principles in Heart of the Soul are timeless and are for everyone who wishes to open their heart to express them. I felt uplifted and filled with joy while reading this book. It is not a preachy book, but states universal truths in a very warm, readable manner. I plan to place these principles in my life starting right now.

This is the type of book one reads and rereads, finding something new in each fresh encounter. Since it's values are eternal, it can never be outgrown because life is constantly providing fresh materials for us to practice the principles on. I highly recommend this wonderful book. It is a gift to our hearts from the hearts of the authors.

Aretta and Ian showed unusual courage through this book. While it is simple, it is also simply profound. Few of us dare share our experiences with the world. Few of us expose our vulnerability for everyone to see. They have. Through "Heart of The Soul," they give, to everyone who reads it and is willing and wanting to change their lives, down to earth everyday examples of spirituality in daily life. Reading this opened my heart to the simplicity and meaningfulness of the seemingly mundaneness of life. I congratulate them for their courage to put on paper the wisdom and insight that flowed through them from the Inspiration of Divine Spirit! Aretta is truly keeper of the Sacred Heart.

I read the first few books in the series years ago and have been reading her new series as of late. I know it has been quite some time since I read a book from this series, but I really think she surpassed herself on this one. I can remember the previous books being more mushy and romantic. This one was sweet but primarily I found it to be a mystery. A cult is killing people in horrific sacrificial manner and our main characters are not only trying to solve the case and trying to stay off the evil people's radar. Definitely worth your time. I loved it and had a hard time putting it down.

Every time I get a new Robin D. Owens book I expect the best and I have yet to be disappointed. In Heart Quest, Ms. Owens brings two previous background characters to the forefront with their own story of love and heartache. When I read that Winterberry and Trif were the stars of this story I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as her other novels, simply because these two never seemed that important or remarkable, however, I am pleased to say that they really shine in this story, and of course there is all of the other characters from other books making guest appearances. As a stand alone novel, this is a good book, with a charming heroine and a serious, sexy, authority-figure hero. I love a man in uniform! As a continuation of her other Heartmate novels, Ms. Owens outdoes herself time and again and I cannot wait for her next one!

This book should be read by Christians and non-Christians alike in my opinion. Thank you Mr. DeVos for sharing your story, your wisdom, and your unshakeable faith in our Lord and Savior. "My Journey to Know the Truth" is an autobiography describing the challenges, pitfalls, and emotional confrontations that successful entrepreneur and family man Tony Kent meets as he sets out to participate in what simply has to be the ultimate and most difficult game on earth - surrendering completely to the spiritual path and to one's teacher.

Way before he embarks on his journey to know the truth, Tony is in an underworld cycle and failing to cope with heartache and loss. Hopelessly longing to return to the way things were with his wife and children, he constantly struggles to accept this is just no longer an option.

We get to observe that even the most intuitive, talented, skilled, intelligent and accomplished of men can and do succumb to the painful dark mechanisms of despair. Tony purposely allows us to witness the exact same type of frustrating, ego-driven, obsessive, futile, mind-numbing thoughts that plague virtually most all human beings. If only we could see from within this churning, burning, incubating cocoon of metamorphosis that there is an end to our sadness.

Tony is as fragile as a butterfly's wing when by grace he is given a chance to meet and study with a beloved Sufi master from Jerusalem. It is an instant love story. It is the beginning of a real initiation into the Sufi way of the heart.

"My Journey" thankfully doesn't advise any get-happy-quick schemes. There isn't really a happy ending either. If you are on a spiritual path already or perhaps seeking one, this book offers a compelling read with beautiful inspirations and truth-teachings from both the Sufi guide Sidi and his student Tony.

If you too are in an underworld phase now, and are suffering from grief and loss, "My Journey to Know the Truth" may be seriously, deeply comforting.

After reading his book, it reinforced and encouraged me to remember that when we give up the culturally conditioned self-perpetuating victim status and that incessant hoping for someone to come and save us, mostly from ourselves, it is then we can adopt a totally new attitude to living our lives clearly in a more viable, adventurous and conscious way. We now become totally responsible for everything that happens to us. This is an advancement in our evolution and an orientation which allows us to become far more available to others in need.

On another note, it seems to me in order to move beyond the ego, we have to stop taking being human for granted. We are living in the most extraordinary universe, on a planet called Earth that circles a glorious star in the middle of a galaxy in the midst of an endless cosmos. What it is to be human now is in the midst of intense transition. We can literally choose the new myths, the new ceremonies, the new relationships toward our planet and ourselves and each other. We can grow up to a higher, far more functional and enlightened position, continually redefining what it actually means to live as a human being in a spectacular universe. There seems to be a real truth to this current phase in our development of humanity - that these are the most unusual and welcomed of times, to be moving into a new realm, from homo sapiens into what is being called 'homo luminous'. We need this now for the entire human race.

Just what your heart has been asking for.

The author, Tony Kent shares with us a life changing event that takes him half way across the world to the holy city of Jerusalem, where he meets his guide, a Sufi Master, who helps mend his broken heart. This story reminds us of what is important in our lives and reveals how important our connection to God is. This book helped open my heart to a new reality during a time when my life was filled with uncertainty. I am sure it can do the same for anyone.

I was deeply moved and touched by Tony's honesty, depth, sincerity and deep searching for his inner truth. The messages and insights he received from Allah/God and his guide Sidi al Jamal in Jerusalem resonated with me on many levels and I could feel the deep love that permeated the words, the story and the teachings from the holy man he received much healing, unconditional love and support from. Not only does one learn that Sufism and Islam is about surrender to God and love, but its messages of love and unity crosses all beliefs systems, wounds, colors, backgrounds and continents. It was inspiring to learn about his transformation thru Sufism, Sidi and his courage despite his fears, worries or challenges. It helps me trust that perhaps I too can accomplish the same....a deep sense of love, faith and trust in Allah/God all the time. I highly recommend this book and the exploration of the Shadhilyya Sufi path.

My Journey to Know the Truth, describes the process of returning from the pain of separation to the love, mercy, and compassion found within oneself. The book focuses on the author's desire to seek understanding, regain trust and have a willingness to open and experience life once again. There are no words to describe the hidden pearls of wisdom found within the teachings of the author's profound yet humble Guide Sidi. The book describes the true tasting of the purest love; the honey found deep within us. I highly recommend this incredible book written by the most sensitive, compassionate, and talented author, Tony Kent.

The first time I read the book it was difficult to put down, but it was more difficult for me to put it down the second time I read it. There are numerous Sufi jewels that are revealed in this book and I found that my own yearning was being fed. Tony speaks to my heart from his. His journey is a reflection/mirror of my own journey. I highly recommend this book for anyone wishing to sample a "taste" of real love.

God uncovers one day at a time in our lives. Enjoy how Deborah Raney does the identical thing in this delightful, upbeat novella. As I plopped on my bed each night I was anxious to run to the final page and see how Maddie and Arthur would ever come to the shocking truth; "You are Who??"

Thankfully I waited and page by page allowed the author to reel me in heart and soul where I could enjoy and giggle with her as this aspiring story-tale ending drew to a close.

Thank you for sharing your God given talent with others. May you continue on Deborah to use it for Him.

First this book is for every animal lover, whether you love dogs, cats or rabbits. Second, it is visually a beautiful book, which would make a lovely gift, but most of all, when I started to read this book, it is as wonderful at the book Marley and Me. As I write this review I can still feel the over all beauty of this book. I plan to give this book to many of my friends as their next birthday gifts.

What a wonderful inspirational book!

This book is very catching from the heart catching stories to the wonderful color pictures and cover! Each story reminds us that we are here to help protect those who aren't able to take care of themselves in this world.

The way Ms. Mead brings each rabbit to life in her writings makes a person feel that they are a part of each of the stories. I also loved the way that practical information for the lay-person is included after each of the stories.

At first I thought this was going to be a book that only adults could respond to, however once I began reading I realized that even young children could relate to the stories. This is a most have for anyone that is considering a rabbit as a pet, either as a healthy or as a rescued bun.
