I have the July 1990 edition and read it with the same enthusiasm I had reading "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follet. I have
placed these two books together on my shelf and have recommended both of them to many of my friends. I'm just sorry that
it's not available in hard cover.

The architecture of this building (formerly the SF Public Library) and the art inside are fascinating. The interior is a mash-up
of old and new styles, which echoes the museum collection of ancient and modern Asian art. This book is a must-have for architecture
and art enthusiasts.

Fun and excellent book on bidding fundamentals. Not simple stuff like what do you respond with 6-9, etc. Instead it shows
bidding sequences and asks you to figure out pards hand shape. There are some good play problems requiring visualization
and deduction, (rather than advanced squeezes). The book will expose gaps in your knowledge of fundamental bidding. This
is far more valuable than studying new conventions.
A GREAT book for Intermediates.
I bet many of you "advanced" players would get a lot of this BASIC and FUNDAMENTAL material wrong.

a bridge too far by cornelius ryan tells me things we, living in Amsteram, heard rumors about that we hoped were true. Gripping
and chilling facts that are gruesome. We started the "hunger winter" while so many lives were being sacrificed that we might
be free. The many interviews with those who participated makes for fine reading. Well written and a must for all young people
lest we forget.

I've driven over this bridge, rode bike over it, fished off it (the police didn't like that), walked over it, walked under
it, swam under it, skied under it, stalled my first car in the middle of it, ridden in the back of a pickup and tried to grab
leaves off the huge cottonwood trees around it on the Nebraska side, in fact I've driven over this bridge thousands of times
and never knew or thought of the significance and determination that it represented. This bridge has been a significant part
of my life since before I was born. My father and mother met because of this bridge, as did my wife and I. The achievement
of building this bridge is monumental for our country as well. The bridge over the wild Missouri River changed the route
commerce traveled, it linked Canada and Mexico, and it fulfilled a dream that it's builders had. This book is the story of
people who wouldn't give up and built this bridge, not with tax money, but by selling their dream.

Bridges can be more to people than simply a method of crossing water without a boat. "A Bridge Worth Saving" is a thoroughly
'user friendly' guide for activists wanting to save historical landmarks they deem worth the effort and expense to campaign
for their preservation. Filled from cover to cover with practical advice for keeping an old bridge in tip top condition, "A
Bridge Worth Saving" is a complete and comprehensive instructional guide to bridge restoration, enhanced with an index and
appendixes. Highly recommended for personal, professional, academic, and community library collections.

One of the best-selling books on bridge, and an essential for novice / intermediate players, is Barbara Seagram's (with Marc
Smith) popular text "25 Bridge Conventions You Should Know." We picked up a copy of this follow-on -- "25 Ways to Compete..."
-- guessing that it would be the same quality as the earlier book and hopefully just as interesting and useful. We were not
to be disappointed!
Like "25 Conventions", "25 Ways" has 25 chapters, each covering different methods for getting into the auction once the opponents have opened the bidding. Rather than organize these topics somewhat at random by difficulty, this book organizes the topics by broad competitive area, dividing the discussions into six groups: Suit Overcalls (5 chapters); Takeout Doubles (4); Notrump Overcalls (2); 1NT Defenses (3); Bidding over Preempts (5); and General Competitive Issues (6). While some of the chapters are as short as 5 or 6 pages, others go into more detail by presenting more alternatives. For example, the chapter on conventional defenses over a 1NT opening describes Landy, Cappelletti, and DONT, while mentioning that plenty of others exist. As Eddie Kantar points out in his forward, there are even chapters (his favorites) introducing the subjects of the Law of Total Tricks and Hand Evaluation.
While some of this material can be handled by advanced beginners, we suspect most of the techniques will appeal to intermediate players {experts will probably have already traversed most of these roads!}. Sometimes it takes frustration with current bidding limitations to see the real motivation behind many of the methods disclosed herein. But the chapter summaries, sample problems, and explanatory answers echo the quality we discovered in the author's other work. To become a nastier opponent, get yourself a copy of "25 Ways"!

Being an art reviewer, i attended the bridge project over the course of four days. i find the book to tell the tale of the
project in an honest an organic fashion. i would in particular like to commend the photographic input, which illlustrates
the depth of the project as an artistic, if not, cross-cultural exchange of ideas and opinions and would implore the reader
to take the photographic contributions as being a just and explorative viewpoint of the entire project. in particular the
photgraphy of one individual, Gabor Jakab, who seemed to have truely captured the purpose and mood of the event. a commendable
addition to any coffee table art book colletion. DJ.
