Bridge Books

This is one of the best picture books I have read in a long time! The Brooklyn Bridge is completed and skeptics wonder just how long it will stand. P. T. Barnum decides to capitalize on their skepticism and arranges a parade of his elephants across the bridge as they head to Manhattan for their latest migration of the "Greatest Show on Earth."

I teach a class of 25 1st grade students in a 'gifted' classroom and they were riveted throughout the entire story...and so were the two parent volunteers at the back of the room. The vocabulary is extremely rich and advanced and this book provided wonderful enrichment to our study of bridges in a community. One of the best parts of the book was the final 'Author's Note' which described the extensive research that an author must complete to create an effective story.

It took fourteen years of construction to build the Brooklyn Bridge, connecting Brooklyn and New York - but some wondered how much weight the new bridge could safely handle. One man decided to show them it was strong enough to hold even the heaviest passenger -- and demonstrated this with elephants. The man's name? P.T. Barnum. It reads with the drama of fiction but Twenty-one Elephants And Still Standing is based on fact, which is even more intriguing.

This is a short yet very powerful book. If you are in need of healing buy this book.

"Twilight & Dawn" is a story that gives life to the scripture 'Be still and know that I am God' (Psalm 46:10). Gwen Lanning, a woman suffering from a debilitating condition reaches a point in her life wherein she 'forgets' the power of the Almighty God. The moral of the story is this: While we as Christians sometimes rely on human resources, God is able to do ALL things!

I am delighted to recommend the book, "Under the Bridge and Back Again" which is Part 1 of the Winthrope Mysteries by Mike Bradford. Realizing the setting was Louisville, Ky. and other areas I am familiar with, I anxiously awaited the publishing of his new Murder mystery. I found the book to be delightful, fascinating and moving. The combination of a love story and murder mystery kept my interest going and I found it difficult to put the book down until I finished it. The solving of the murder by Davis Winthrope and Kelly Servideo was a very surprising ending. Mr. Bradford is a very warm, witty, and highly entertaining writer which is reflected in his book. I look forward to reading more about the Winthropes and the situations in which they become involved in his next book of the Winthrope Myseries, "The Hole in the Bottom of the Sea."

Set mainly in Louisville, Kentucky, Mike Bradford's "Under the Bridge and Back Again" has just as much romance in it as it has mystery. Davis Winthorpe and Kitty Servideo are the love interests, and the antics of property mogul Harry Snapp add the spice to the mystery. A hallmark of good mysteries is the ability of the author to add an unexpected twist at the end, and Mr. Bradford has skillfully accomplished this.

The 25 chapters run by quickly; "Under the Bridge and Back Again" is the first book in The Winthorpe Mysteries, and I'm looking forward to reading the others.

I love Undercover Lover. I love how Sally writes. This one is simply the best. Allison and Bill are so real. Their story is filled with humor, thoughtfulness, misconceptions, murder, mystery, etc. It has it all. The secondary characters are well written, too. Allison's ex is Doug. My ex is Doug. I could relate! I enjoyed Allison's daughter, her coworkers, Bill's family and co-workers. Even those who worked for or were clients of the homeless shelter rang true. Thank you, Sally for another wonderful story.

Sally Steward and her pen have many voices, all of them fabulous! Undercover Lovers is a delectable treat for her readers. Allison and Bill are well writen, multidimentional characters who set the pages ablaze as their story unfolds! Sally Steward's secondary characters are as splendidly crafted as her hero and heroine. Unforgettable! She keeps you guessing and turning the pages.

I challenge you to put this book down once you've started it! Excellent! I can't wait for her next release.

It may be helpful to read Shattering Your Strongholds by Liberty Savard first. The Unsurrendered Soul is for those who desire personal growth to make way for spiritual growth and are willing to do the necessary work and/or letting go to get there.

I've been a Christian for 5 years and lately I have felt stuck in my life. I have felt Generational curses and old situations try to creep up on me. I was at a Christian bookstore one day and God lead me to this book. I can't put it down. This book has taught me so much about strongholds and soul ties, etc. I've heard the terms used and people used them, but didn't have understanding as to what they were, etc. She also explains binding and loosing. She does tell you how to overcome discouragement and despair. This book is in depth which is great. I've had a lot of unanswered questions as to why I'm not living in abundance like God wants me to be. She's answered a lot of it. I could go on and on about this book, but I won't. I just think no matter where you are in your walk with God, it's a good read. Especially if your stuck, this book is for you. Since reading this book, I've had a lot more of God's Peace in my life and the old man is vanishing quickly. Warning--don't read this book if aren't ready to face the truth and don't want a radical life change. :)

This book is an essential addition to the library of every rheumatologist, internist, and dermatologist.

This treatise, both usable and scholarly, is destined to become known as the authoritative source on the topic.

Vocabulary Bridges From English to Latin & Greek, by Harvey Bluedorn, is a concise, yet practical study into the Latin and Greek roots of the English language.

Mr. Bluedorn splits the workbook into two sections, with the Latin study first and then the Greek. Within these two individual studies, a student is guided through an understanding of word prefixes, their Latin or Greek meanings, and the Latin or Greek roots composing the word. After aquiring this basic understanding, the student is then required to develop his or her own definitions of English words by combining these classical prefixes and roots. This method provides a student with a grasp of not only the individual word studied in its component parts, but also the basic building blocks for the English language so he or she can apply these lessons to develop a comprehension of more complex words in the English language.

This book is a great tool for the grammarian and linguist-in-training alike. I highly recommended it!

Vocabulary studies can be a valuable part of your homeschool.
Since we've started learning Greek, the whole idea of words and their origins have gained priority in our lesson plans. Expanding your vocabulary is fun, rewarding, and challenging. There are many curricula and games to help you do that, and Vocabulary Bridges is one clear and concise place to start.

This workbook begins with Latin to English, includes a section for review, and then transitions to Greek to English. The lessons are fairly simple: look at the prefix, and then the word root, and then write out the dictionary definition in the space is provided. The words are grouped according to same prefix, and then root definition is provided. Students can pretty much figure out what the dictionary definition will be with those 2 pieces of information. The exercises then get more challenging as the student advances through the workbook. Some of the words on the lists are familiar (ie: advice, apply, subject), while others are less familiar (ablution, obsequious, misogyny). Certainly a foreknowledge of the ancient languages would be helpful, but the book is designed for those with no formal Greek or Latin instruction.
There are hundreds of words to define, so if your child looks up 5-10 words per week, Vocabulary Bridges will last a very long time!

Finally Elyon trusts the girls! All in all, i liked the prospect of elyon's memory with her mom and the trouble with the Interpol agents. its also pretty cute when matt asks will out just when shes havin trouble with Vathek. nice i recommend it and the end is also suspenseful when will's mom asks for a transfer

This book was based on the comic, "A Bond Between Two Worlds" in Italy and in the Phillipines "A Bridge Between Two Worlds". this book was very good in relationship with the comics.

Each thoughtfully painted piece has a caption describing the length, width, and year the featured bridge was built, as well as its location and composition. Simple maps and directions to the bridges allow devoted art and scenery enthusiasts to visit these lovely sites and see these impressive structures for themselves. A thoughtful and touching artbook, invested with love for the painted scenery, Watercolors Of Bridges Over Minnehaha Creek is especially recommended for students of art, and the structural architecture of bridges.

For me it's taken a second read in order to absorb things I missed the first time.

The writing is somewhat in-your-face when it comes to the topic. That's not a criticism, it's just that the book is slammed full of history, and IMO, it could be that the only way to pull it off within the given number of pages is to write it this way.

The subject is extremely fascinating to this reviewer, and this book really does a wonderful job of giving you both the big picture and enough detail so that when you're done, you want to buy more books on the subject.

The author *obviously* has a passion for the subject---there's enough footnotes and bibliography to kill a horse.

WAYS OF THE WORLD is an excellent introduction to the history of roads. The author is a civil engineer who combines a strong technical background with an interest in history and economics. The result is a book that appeals to both the engineer and the general reader. As a pavement engineer and scientist with over twenty years experience, I really enjoyed this book and heartily recommend it to my colleagues.
