John Bankston's Shirley Temple appeared some time ago but deserves ongoing mention as a rare biography of the child actress geared to grades 3-4. Plenty of books on Shirley reach adult audiences: this 32-page title is a delight for kids who want to read about a notable successful child star. There could be more illustrations, but the value here is the information which is suitable for a report.

This book was written by Elyne Mitchell and i can tell you she's the greatest. Anyways, this book is filled with talking horses but that's OK for this once.
Thowra is born out of the rare creamies mare and a proud strongest strongest chestnut stallion. Bel Bel knew he would be hunted so she woved a spell naming him Thowra of the wild wind of the night in the storm when he was born. He and his friend Storm stayed through all of their years together. Even through adulthood. When The Brogla was in prime of his life, he has defeated and killed Yarraman, Thowra's father. But he stole another creamy off The Man and soon he was famous. He was tried to be caught and tamed, but because he had a smart, wise and cunning mother and a strong and handsome father, he was unbeatable. Other stallions wanted to kill him.He also grew faster, cunning and stronger so strong was able to defeat The Brogla! So then he was the King of the Cascade Brumbies. He kept Golden and couple of his prized mare in the Secret Valley. Then in a legendary chase, Thowra the wild wind disappeared over the cliff and people thought that he ran to his death. THOWRA RULZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the other little edition that was great too.
I totally recommanded this book to all ages and to the horse-lovers.

We have said it for years: knowing him is like an amusement park of Life.
This is our friend: Mitch, who would dare to write these stories--because we can't figure out how and why he's so many characters at once.
Great laughs, especially "Lenny Versus the Grizzly Bear..." because we also grew up with him too--and yes, he's as dangerous too in his own wild ways.

Omigosh, he's writing stories about us: his friends, his family, and his adventures--and he's right! Living with Mitch or knowing him is just like being in a movie--and the episodes he tells are just beyond reality.
We love this guy because he amuses us at the same time that he's overcoming yet another Life Crisis by using his humor, intelligence, and crazy enthusiasm.

We have had this book less han a day and it already is a favorite with my 3 year old. Amazing creativity.....inspiring for young children to create their own scenes and characters. I will use this book with my preschoolers art class and the homeschoolers co-op. The CD also is amazing really works well with the mood of the story....adding more character to this little story. This is part of a new series collaboratively produced by Robin Mitchell and Judith Steedman- I hope we see many more!
Read it on a snowy night, and wake to a pancake and hot chocolate breakfast. Simply Magical!

This is a small but wonderful book for young children. I am a speech therapist who has used all three of the books in this series with a class of kindergarteners. They absolutely love them! The pictures are so different from anything they have seen before. It got the children asking many questions about how the authors used paper, yarn, felt and other objects to create their scenes.
The story is perfect for winter time. It is about 2 sisters who set off in the snow to find a present for their buffalo friend. They encouter many animals along the way who make some interesting suggestions. The book lends itself so nicely for discussion. We talked about each suggestion and why it was or was not good for a buffalo. This book, like the others in the series, includes a map of all the places the characters visit. The maps really helped my class of children with short term memory deficits remember the sequence of events.
The back of the dust jacket includes a recipe for pancakes. My students enjoyed eating pancakes and drinking hot chocolate just like the characters did at the end. We were able to work on social language skills with our little book related party.
I was able to work on so many speech and language goals with this book, I could write an entire page review!

Soul Theology causes you to think about what you believe and how your belief system influences everything you say and do. It is groundbreaking as it is a guide into the heart and soul of a people who have survived against the odds and continue to triumph. The definition of "core belief" has become the foundational piece for our health ministry. For we need to know what a healthy core belief is, to possess it, then use it as a point of reference in how we see ourselves in relationship to God and others. This book will be especially helpful for counselors who counsel persons who possess deep religious convictions. In general, it is an easy reading book for anyone interested in the subject matter.
A ground breaking work and a must read.

This book broke ground becaused it identified and demonstrated that certain African American core belief could uplift and heal. Soul Theology showed that what was positive and healthy in one culture could be of benefit to others. African Americans can be proud and others can be glad.
I may have a small bias. Thank you for reading the book. Nicholas Cooper-Lewter, Ph.D.
Expect to read about Black Grief and Soul Therapy in the future. Peace, Health and Soul.

As far as I know, there are no other books out there that cover the musical instruments of asia at a reasonable price. This book has descriptions with color pictures of many of the musical instruments of asia. I was specifically interested in Japanese instruments that I had seen in prints, and I was able to find pictures of all these instruments. If you have an interest in this topic and don't want to pay a lot of money this book is worth getting.

Informed and informative, Sounds Of The Silk Road: Musical Instruments Of Asia by Mitchell Clark (Research Fellow, Department of Musical Instruments, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) focuses upon the diverse musical instruments used in Asia from cultures ranging from the Turkish empire to the Tibetan mountain ranges. Clark draws upon the extensive collections of Asian musical instruments held by Boston's Museum of Fine Arts to illustrate and showcase the beauty, diversity, and application of some fifty instruments that range from sil-stringed zithers and shell trumpets, to double-headed drums made from human sculls and the Javanese gamelan. Superbly enhanced with more than one hundred full color photographs of these often rare and sometimes obscure instruments, Sounds Of The Silk Road introduces the use, history, sounds, playing techniques, decorations, and symbolism of these instruments that were so integral a part of Asian cultures from the warding off of evil spirits to the celebrations of life's milestones including marriages, births, and funerary rites. Accessible organized with each individual chapter dedicated to a particular instrument, Sounds Of The Silk Road is enthusiastically recommended reading for non-specialist general readers with an interest in Asian cultural history, and an exceptional contribution to academic library Multi-Cultural Music History reference collections and supplemental reading lists.

Another favorite is the plantation rice. There are too many fabulous recipes to list them all. Get your own copy, you will NOT be sorry.

Spectrum Books were recommended by my child's teacher. Now I can understand why. We home school and these books are great. They self teach and are easy to understand. They are economically priced which is rare in educational books. I find that every Spectrum Book on every subject is equally as great. Not only are they valuable to home schooled kids like mine, they also are great to tutor kids in traditional schools who may need a little help. I will never hesitate to buy any book under the Spectrum name brand. They are tops. However it's my nature to be picky, so here it goes, the only thing I recommend is removing the answers from the back of the book. All the pages have been conveniently perforated. Because if you have a child like mine, he'll discover this before you do and whiz through his assignments without getting any question wrong. I'll be buying these books for years to come. I love them and it will be hard to find anything better.

I've bought several books in the Test Prep series, and they are all great workbooks for revision and test practice. Depending on which grade level is being used, they are divided into well-defined sections such as grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, literature, and math. For extra study at home, I think these are really helpful books for the home-study student.
