Outstanding addition to your Ferrari collection

I had read about this book several months back, and, having followed Ferrari Formula 1 racing since the early 1970s, I had to have it. The photography is excellent, although most of the pictures are behind the scenes at Maranello or at various racing circuits around the world. The cars and the crews definitely take frontstage here, with the drivers being mentioned secondarily.

The author and photographer were given access to the team during the time that Rubens Barrichello was Michael Schumacher's teammate. This was definitely the modern golden age of Ferrari, with 5 straight driver's championships for Schumacher. The insider information is nice, but if you really follow Formula 1 you have probably heard much of this before.

What I liked best was the section featuring the tour of Enzo Ferrari's old office, the comparison of the racing and road car divisions of the factory, and the details of both Maranello and Fiorano, the two test tracks that Ferrari owns. The fact that the team can take the cars out, run full racing lengths daily, wet down the track as needed to test tires, etc. shows how important racing is to the workers that have taken Ferrari to the pinnacle of the pinnacle of motorsport.

At the price, this book is a steal. Stop reading and buy it!

I bought this book for my dad for Christmas. We are huge Ferrari fans and it's great to have a book on Ferrari that has some authenticity... there are stax of book on Ferrari, the cars, the F1 team and so on, but few of them have any real ties to the factory.

This is where this book is different. The foreword is by Jean Todt, the photographer is a hugely respected F1 photographer and the guy who wrote the bits between the photos is one of the most successful F1 writers around - a great recipe!

The authors were given exclusive access to Ferrari. Anyone who has been to the factory will know how secretive and restricted it is for visitors and appreciate seeing this hidden side of Ferrari.

If you are a Ferrari fan, you will want to add this one to your collection!

I am a student independently studying Ancient Greek with a little guidance from my Latin teacher. After struggling through Reading Greek: Text and Vocabulary (Reading Greek), I switched over to this book. It has been an incredible aid. Everything in the book is perfectly explained, and things that I never understood before have been made clear. It's great for anyone, but especially for someone who has studied Latin, because when a concept is similar in the two languages, a side note points it out.

An excellent book for beginners! From my experience the students quickly learn the basics of both grammar and syntax, and they also enjoy the way the book presents the material. The increments of new material are carefully apportioned with deep consideration of how much can a student absorb in a lesson. The sequencing of subjects is pedagogically effective. Grammar is explained clearly, with sufficient linguistic background to assist in comprehension. The presentation of syntactical concepts is exemplary in its clarity. Sentences in the exercises are based on lines culled from ancient writers, often aphorisms expressing the sort of universal truths students find engaging. These glimpses of Greek thought help encourage the students to persevere in their work. Unlike many books, this text exposes the student to original Greek immediately, in the Introduction -- and they can do it! The author's sometimes humorous tone is appealing, and students find the book "friendly." Luschnig approaches the student as intelligent and committed, including advice on how to tackle memorizing forms, for instance, a sort of mental discipline with which many students today are unfamiliar. I've taught from a variety of books, and I've never found the progress so easy. An efficient and enjoyable book for both students and teachers!

excellent balance of information

i'm a msiv going into em, and this book has been the perfect balance of practical management and "less practical facts a med student always gets pimped on." the chapters usu are short - anywhere btwn 5-13 pages - which are great for my short attn span/limited time, and is organized by case scenario, intro, history, history/diagnostic eval/phys exam, differential, management, dispo, and _then_ pathophys.

i feel like i always get bogged down in the pathophys in int med txtbks and am too tired to read about management by the time i finish all the discussion of obscure cytokines, receptors, etc. this txbook gets you thinking up front as to what you need to focus on, what you need to keep in the back of your mind, and what you need to do about the situation.

if you're rusty/coming back after a year off, i'd also recommend SOAP for emergency medicine to get you up and running in a few days. also grab a copy of the tarascon pocket emergency medicine so you can look up all those evidence-based criteria for PE/DVTs, etc. it's also got a really rough visual chart in there (better than nothing!). folks also like case files, emergency medicine, which has several contributors from highland general hospital in oakland.

note, this is a black & white text/diagrams, so don't go looking for glossy pics. but hey, one less distraction for me. i just need the basic info to take good care of my patients ;)

Emergency physicians and editors, Mitchell and Medzon, from the Boston U School of Medicine have organized an excellent introductory text for medical students interested in emergency medicine. Not only does their book cover all the key topics in the field, but it does so in an engaging and learner-friendly manner. Many of the authors are recognized experts with decades of experience in their subject areas.

Although the book is designed for medical students, others working in emergency departments will find it useful as well. It's a "good read," well-referenced, comprehensive and user-friendly. In short, Intro to EM is a great addition to the emergency medicine literature.

I thank God for Dr. Marva Mitchell for her obedience to Him in writing such a powerful book. "It Takes A Church To Raise A Village", is a phenomenal tool on how we, the Body Of Christ must get involved and extend Hope and release love to underprivileged communities.

I enjoyed this book. It's fast, easy, and powerful reading. Most importantly, it made me think about the real purpose of the church in our society and my role in it. Are we just sitting in beautiful edifices week after week or are we here to do a life changing work in the village of our communities? This book's message is beneficial for individuals and the church collectively. Buy it; read it if you want to be influenced to make a difference in your village!

It is rare that you purchase a book that captures your attention from the very first page and this particular book had me captivated wondering damn Princess why would you do that to your boy and then when you get to the end your mouth drops to find out the truth behind page 1. I won't tell the book but it is a must read. True it does speaks heavily on the drug game but it is so real and you feel as if you are taking the journey with Jump,Princess,Rab,Ish, as well as Mooky. The words were so vivid and I felt as if I could see all that I was reading at that particular time. I can't wait for It Wasn't Worth the Weight Part 2 Bring it on Marc.........

The story reminded me of growing up in the projects(241)in Mt. Vernon, New York and what I saw happening around the area. I liked how Mitchell uses many adjectives to discribe items during the time period. The places that were mentioned in the story, I remember all of them. The story did have a heavy drug content but it was an eye opener for me. I was told that a part 2 is in the making so I can't weight(wait) to see what happens to the charaters.
I'm very proud of this first time writer and I wish him lots of luck!!

PLEASURABLE EXPERIENCES
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-07-29
A gem of a book, illustrated delightfully and with short excerpts form the authors' favourite writers, inclding Mary McCarthy, D.H. Lawrence, Carlo Levi and Edith Wharton -- all waxing lyrical on Italy and its beauties.
This evocative little book -- pocket sized, but elegantly bound for travelling with you everywhere whilst in Bella Italia -- contains personal essays by expatriates (they live in Rome, naturally!) David Leavitt and Mark Mitchell. They variously describe the multiple delights of this peninsula, rendering the joys and surprises of their adopted homeland, including iced cappuccino, umbrella pines on the Riviera, the expressive nuances of language, window shopping, the many pictoresque names and shapes of healthy pasta, sidewalk art made of flowers.

If you love Italy, this book will caress and enhance your Italian tastes. If you still have to discover Italy's pleasures, then this book will be the right chaperon.

As Goethe said in his 'Letter from Naples': "...it is a strange sensation for me to keep company with people who live only for pleasure."

I am very sorry to learn that this small, beautifully put together
book is out of print. If you have ever vacationed in or worked in or
simply visited Italy or if you have dreamed about doing it, you'll
want to, somehow, find this book. Leavitt and Mitchell have collected
famous writers thoughts on Italy (D.H. Lawrence, Nellie Melba, John
Ruskin, Mark Twain, etc.) and then written down their own wonderful
musings: (What makes an Italian ragu?, The thing that Italian boys do
better than any other boys in the world, Is there a cure for chicken
pox?, Speaking "opera" Italian, et al). This is a charming
& fascinating book which ... is definitely not an ordinary Travel
book. This is a book about living in Italy and loving and relishing
every moment and sharing those moments with us. I hope Chronicle
Books is smart and generous enough to reprint it or, perhaps, publish
a paperback edition.

I bought this book for my 3rd grade students to use in conjunction with our reading the biography of Helen Keller. I also wanted my students to get an understanding for the "author process." The students enjoyed learning about a favorite author, they were able to understand the language of the book, they could read it by themselves, and they could relate to how they feel about producing a finished piece of writing.

Jamaica Plain covers a Boston neighborhood once known as the 'Eden of America', which was a part of Roxbury and West Roxbury before being annexed to Boston in 1874. It was one of the Boston neighborhoods which became known as a 'streetcar suburb': plenty of vintage photos show buildings and routes yesterday and today, contrasting old and new areas of Jamaica Plain. These are simply outstanding histories: recommended picks for any solid collection on regional Massachusetts history.

Jamaica Plain: Then & Now is a fascinating photographic history of a Boston neighborhood once referred to as the "Eden of America." At one time a part of Roxbury and later West Roxbury, Jamaica Plain was annexed to the city of Boston in 1874. During the next five decades, the neighborhood expanded due to the railroad and streetcars and became known as one of the "streetcar suburbs." In this lavishly illustrated book, vintage images placed alongside contemporary photographs show well-known buildings and streetscapes as they once were and as they appear today. Included are Jamaica Pond, with its icehouses, and the area of Forest Hills, with the elevated line and streetcars, as well as schools, places of worship, and homes. Anthony M. Sammarco is a noted historian and author of more than forty books on the history of Boston and surrounding cities and towns. Sammarco teaches history at the Urban College of Boston.
