Super little unit!

This is exactly what I had hoped for. Small footprint, plenty of capacity, no external power requirement and simple plug & play compatability for both XP and Vista.

I use this unit 3 different ways:
1.) As a backup device for a laptop running XP and a desktop running Vista
-- It's simple and very quick. I actually now backup my 2 computers now on a weekly basis. Prior to this I did it once a year if I thought about it!
-- Plus I keep this unit in my backpack which helps reduce the risk of losing everything if there were a fire/tornado or similar disaster.
2.) File transfer mechanism when the files are bigger than a USB memory stick holds
-- I don't always have a shared network I can use between computers so this is the next best thing.
3.) For programs I don't use on a regular basis at work. This would be demo stuff and large applications that I only use on a very infrequent basis.
-- This keeps my laptop hard drive free from some very large installs.

My 16 year old just finished this book for homeschool biology. It was comprehensive, thorough, yet easy for her to follow. The illustrations are excellent and prolific. It had quizes she could take to track her progress. I highly recommmend this book for high school biology.

I used this book to homeschool my 13 year old daughter, who went on to obtain a 750 on the SAT II Biology. I also taught a class to homeschoolers using THE WAY LIFE WORKS (much cheaper) as the main text, but using many of the CD-ROM activites from ESSENTIAL BIOLOGY as class material. I especially liked the MendAliens for genetics problems! There are many useful activites, quizzes, and chapter tests, wonderful graphics. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand "essential" biology.

Unique guide for helping examine the WHY, not just the WHAT
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1999-07-31
Randy Mitchell's down-to-earth, personable writing style might initially obscure the wide variety of settings where this book could be used. It's obviously a rich source of material for student affairs staff development, at all levels. But it also has utility for other divisions/areas on campus, for other educational organizations, and for the corporate world. Organizations of all kinds could benefit from talking more about WHY they're doing something, not just about WHAT. Although getting employees to examine the WHY questions is difficult, any of Mitchell's warm reflections would be a perfect catalyst.

Fabels, Labels and Folding Tables is small in size but big in heart. If you are interested in how to educate college students, or if you just want to know how to reflect on your life's work, this book is packed with amusing experiences, poignant reflections, and invaluable tips from an author of obvious wisdom and passion.

Without question, college students learn as much or more outside of class than they do in class, and the people that construct those learning experiences are as talented, passionate and dedicated as any group of teachers. This fascinating book takes you inside that world and reveals many truths about the process by which we help young people grow and succeed. In some places the book unfolds in wonderful stories that anyone, anywhere can relate to... in other places the book resembles a veritable college student owner's manual.

Nice to pick up for either inspiration or reflection.

Randy Mitchell brings his enthusiasm, creativity, and insight to bear on every part of his life: his family, his hobbies, and in the case of Fables, Labels and Folding Tables, his profession.  This book is full of warm-hearted reflections and observations that many will identify with, whether in the field of higher education or not.  Randy can Write (with a capital W) and we can enjoy the Reading (with a smile).

This refreshing work is a literary trinity composed of these elements: philosophy, pragmatism, and playfulness. Randy Mitchell arouses your spirit for learning and its application with the ultimate goal of making a difference. His word gifts inspire our present and enrich our future. This book will serve as a great primer for the practitioner. It deals with issues not learned in school, but that are ubiquitous in higher education. Most of all, the book engages you to discover your own answers to the perplexing questions posed.

This book brings to life the world of Aviation as it existed at the beginning of this century. Spencer Lane has written a book that is not only difficult to put down, but one that provides an education and insight into a time few of us know well. The excitement and danger of the early aviators, and especially the First World Flight is a gripping tale, well told and worthwhile. I would suggest this book to any American who wants to see the American Spirit in action.

Be careful when you start this book, because you won't want to put it down!

An incredible and exciting read

First World Flight: The Odyssey Of Billy Mitchell by Spencer Lane is the impressive history of how, after the destruction of World War I and the military budget cuts of the 1920s, General Billy Mitchell decided to bolster popular and political interest in the U.S. Air Service by planning the very first successful world flight. Against political pressures, limited funds, and the very oceans themselves - the Pacific and North Atlantic had never been crossed by air before - General Mitchell dared to found a milestone in aviation history. First World Flight is an incredible and exciting read, and one which is especially recommended for aviation history buffs.

First World Flight tells the tale of Billy Mitchell, aviation pioneer and military hero who orchestrates the first flight around the world to promote the role of aviation in the United States. Author Spencer Lane steps into the shoes of the brave pilots who persevered to make the dream of flight a reality. Aviation, history, and war buffs will particularly enjoy this story of bravery, dedication and the will to succeed.

Early American pilot Billy Mitchell's accomplishments don't end with a single flight: he assembled the world's largest air armada and led it to victory during the first World War, among many other achievements. He was a general who believed only successful world flight could save the American Air Force from destruction by politicians, and he helped foster a new era in American aviation history, almost single-handedly. First World Flight is his story. Highly recommended.

As a nephrologist and educator, I can say that this is the absolute best book available for learning and teaching fluid, electrolytes, and acid base. Takes a pathophysiologic approach throughout that facilitates true understanding of the subject. Drs. Haperin and Goldstein are the ultimate clinical educators in this area.

Very good book for review of acid-base and electrolyte physiology.

Using patient-based problem solving, this text makes even the most difficult points of acid-base physiology clear. The writing style is breezy and entertaining and the layout allows you to pop in and out of various sections without the need to start from scratch. I have used the text for teaching medical students, residents and physician assistants. There is something in here for everyone. The authors' philosophy is obviously that acid-base problems are giant jig-saw puzzles and that you might as well have fun while working them.

The best text on integrative physiology out there

This is probably one of the best textbooks on integrative physiology involving electrolytes on the market. Dr. Halperin is a phenomenal instructor and his prose makes learning interactive and interesting. Electrolytes are key to clinical medicine and surprisingly not very well understood by the medical masses. This textbook is full of examples, questions, and pearls.

The abundance of questions with thorough explanations is the strength of this book. An understanding of electolytes including urine electrolytes will be gained from the study of this text.

The target audience is really the physician with an already good grounding in acid-base disorders. It will allow one to build on past knowledge and to solidy any foundation that has already been established. I am really and truly impressed with this book and I refer to it often.

I am a true lover of the work of Pablo Neruda and have perused many
translated works of the famous Chilean poet.
Stephen Mitchell's translations are by far the most eloquent I have found. I feel they best convey the many moods of Pablo Neruda. The writer is able to capture the most intense feelings in the poet's writing better than any I have read. Thank you Stephen Mitchell.

This is a lovely translation, but then I think of them all as good. There is no comparison for me to any other poet. Keep this or any of his books near your bed to understand the earth, sea, mountains, love, stones, earth, grace, redemption, cats, neighbors, friends, etc. The depth and breadth is expansive and this is a "sweet" book.

Pure spirit, pure soul.

Having been interested in Neruda since seeing the movie "Il Postino," I've glanced at several collections for over 3 years, but never took a book home for my own. Looking for a collection that contained "Ode to Laziness" (one of my favorite subjects), I found and purchased Full Woman, Fleshly Apple, Hot Moon. I sat down in a big chair on a Sunday afternoon and opened it to the first page and the love affair started there. Usually, I read a book of poems randomly, just flipping here and there, looking for whatever surprizes me. For some unknown reason, I started this book from the beginning with Mitchell's introduction, then read the first poem. I couldn't help myself as I read one poem and then another till I had carefully read almost every one. Pure spirit, pure soul. Each poem is a love poem to the most simple, everyday, ordinary things of this world--his suit, his socks, his watch--engaging us to see a sheer web of grace that runs through out our lives. Put another way, Neruda sees and shows us a world that shimmers and loves us as fully as we love it.

Many thanks to S. Mitchell for creating this collection.

Stephen Mitchell translates an assortment of Neruda's lesser known poems that rank among his personal favorites. You can tell Mitchell truly loves these works as Neruda's voice almost literally sings off the page in English. The book itself is beautifully constructed with a painting by Gaugin adorning the cover. When you hold it in your hands, you will know you have discovered something truly special. You may also be interested in Mitchell's lovely translations of Rilke.

For those that are 'historically challenged' this is a story of the factual events during war time. It encompases the deep devotion of family; both genetic, and chosen. Aprehensive at first to read a 'historical' book, I found myself captivated by the fast 'what-happens-next' pace. Once reading this book, which only took 2 days; I found a fonder sense of what it is to call someone family. I recomend this book to anyone interested in a tailspin story of love, fear, friendship, and heroism.

Georgio Italiano has both emotional and dramatic qualities with dashes of humor thrown in. It is truly a testament to basic humanity, the love between husband and wife, and a son's love for his father. The author, H. D. George, quickly gains your attention and keeps it throughout the book, right down to the postwar epilogue. Photographs and newspaper articles add interest as does the copy of the dreaded Telegram from the War Department. The author has taken the wartime events of his father's life and transformed it into a riveting story!

Eb models the ultimate community spirit when he shares it all...

This may be short but it manages to achieve a lot on all fronts. Hot sex, 2 well developed characters who easily grow on you, tender, touching and emotional moments and a nice plot. I prefer this one to Diving Deep, the longer story from Mitchell. The initial setting is really amusing as both characters meet over a rubbish dump. Cade may be the more experienced, flamboyant and older one but his failed relationship with a "jerk" has left him vulnerable and lonely. Elliot is a young man, almost a virgin, but romantic at heart believing in finding one true love. They seem very different and you would have thought Cade would have preferred a more exprienced and older lover. But Elliot's persistence and sincerity would win the most hard hearted. Love the chemistry between the 2 men. I would love to read more about this couple making it lasts. A great novella.

I loved the wonderful Diving in Deep by K. A. Mitchell so much that I decided to check out her other work. HOT TICKET is a short, fun, and surprisingly emotional read by this great author.

This is a cute book with great characters. The beginning is a bit confusing because the author chooses to reveal background info very slowly, but the rest of the book flows smoothly as the pieces begin to fit together. Elliot is a sweet geeky guy, and Cade is sensitive and smart despite his rebel appearance. The men have more in common than they think, and they begin a steamy affair.

The sex in this book is extremely hot but still tasteful. The two men have fantastic chemistry, and they seem to understand each other on a deep emotional level. Despite their very different exterior appearances, they are kindred spirits.

The conflict in this book is mostly internal, and is mostly from Cade's end. He has been burned by bad relationships in the past, so he has trust and commitment issues. Elliot is much younger and very inexperienced, and Cade can't imagine Elliot wanting to stick around.

K. A. Mitchell is very good at character-driven romance. The tiny bit of external conflict is secondary to the relationship and the romance, and Ms. Mitchell puts a lot of focus on feelings and growth rather than on the external forces that interfere.

This is a short book, just under 80 pages. It will make a wonderful addition to your "Rainy Day" list.

Waiter Cade isn't too happy about having to do community service sorting recyclables out of garbage. Since he received it for vandalizing his cheating ex's car, however, he doesn't have much choice. The very first day, he spots a ticket envelope in the garbage. He's thrilled when he sees what's inside, but not as pleased when the guy working across from him tries to claim the tickets.

Straight-laced Elliot has never gotten into trouble for anything before. After buying his sister a gift that unfortunately turned out to be stolen, he's sentenced to community service. On his first day, he gets the incredible luck of finding tickets to a concert he's dying to go to. Cade's not too keen on giving up both tickets, though. Will Elliot convince him to give up the ticket, or will he discover there's something else he wants more?

Simply put, Hot Ticket is a great book! Nonconformist, secretly insecure Cade was easy to empathize with, as was earnest, innocent Elliot. Elliot's determination to get the second ticket and Cade's determination to make him work for it end up becoming something more. The differences between the two men make their journey to love bumpy--sometimes emotional and sometimes funny. Obstacles pop up along the way for Cade and Elliot to overcome, of course, and I loved watching the two of them grow as they did so. KA Mitchell did a fabulous job creating a storyline that was simple yet engaging, with great characters that I couldn't help but like and hot, hot love scenes. I devoured Hot Ticket in one sitting because I couldn't stop reading. I'm happy to Joyfully Recommend Hot Ticket, and I'll definitely be checking out Ms. Mitchell's other books ASAP!

Sometime is tender to read a very beatiful love story.

Elliot and Cade meet during community service. Elliot was condamned to have bought stolen items (even if without bad intention) and Cade to have vandalized his ex-lover car after finding the man cheating in their bed with a lot younger man.

Elliot is a 23 years old clerck. He has a simple and ordinary life, he is gay and he has a crush for a man he has barely spoken. And he is virgin (in his past only 3 blowjob...). Cabe is a 33 years old post-hippie. He has quitted with college and now he works has a waiter. Where Elliot is all next door good boy, Cabe has 14 piercing on his ears, one on his eyebrows, one on his toungue and one on his nipple. Where Elliot is classical music and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m work, Cabe is heavy metal and night shifts. Everything seems to drive them apart, but the sex is very hot. For Elliot it's not only the first lover thing or the thrilling to savour a different life style, but Cabe is not so sure of that. He was hurt in the past and to trust again is a long way. Will Elliot be patient enough?

Even if it's Cabe who call the shot, sexually speaking it's Elliot who is the top. And it's very tender to read of the first time of Elliot and of his eagerness which can be a real pain for Cabe, but which at the end is a really good experience for both and a very arousing scene to read. Without doubt for Elliot, the relationship with Cabe is a matter of growing, a journey in discovery his sexuality. Cabe on the other hand, has seen a lot and tried even more, but "training" Elliot, will give him a new perspective.

We don't know if the relationship will last: Elliot is very young and at his first experience with a lover... in the real life probably they will break in few year, but this is a romance, and I want to think that this two guy will find an everlasting love together.
