This is the best self-book I have ever read!! (and I have read many!!) With wit and humor, Roni Bissett shares her many years as a family therapist and as a mother of six!! As a new mother, I have found several of the chapters on parenting extreemly helpful and comforting- I also really love that you can open to any chapter and find help in almost any facet of live. Such as marriage, divorce, self-image, aging and handling the holiday blues!! This book is filled with wonderful insights!

Insightful and thought provoking - great read

Insightful, introspective, and encouraging, "Don't Trip Over the Pebbles In Your Path" provides 52 short chapters. Each chapter is easy to read in a single short sitting and so makes it appropriate for even the most harried and hurried of readers.

Through her experiences as a therapist and mother, Roni Bissett brings a wonderful and insightful approach to life. The book is filled with encouraging words and insights. I particularly liked the well chosen poems, quotes and other motivational and introspective comments dispersed throughout the book. Basically, each chapter deals with one aspect of life, the stress of marriage, dealing with children, life-stages we all go through, divorce, remarriage, forgiveness, the importance of belief, self-image, and retirement as well as many other areas.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I knew from the beginning that it would be a source of introspection and guidance when I read the poem by Helen Mallicoat in the first chapter. This is not to say that every chapter spoke to me, but many did as the author's writing style and insight reached down to the basics of life and living it fully and without any regrets.

A valued therapuetic companion.

Roni Bissett's "Don't Trip Over the Pebbles in Your Path" is a memorable and inspirational collection of 52 essays which first appeared in her local Washington state newspaper advice column. Bissett structures the entries around the course of a year, starting with the hope of a New Year and ending with the reflectiveness of the Christmas season. She effectively uses this approach to building an understanding of one's place within the stages of life. Bissett's orbservations concern themselves with the issues of self-image because they present problems for so many people. She maintains that the lack of self-worth an individual might feel can act as an obstacle in relationships with spouse, employer, colleagues, friends, family and neighbors. From the stresses of marriage, parenting and divorce to problems arising from holidays and retirement, these essays are a kind of collective therapy where Bissett shares her wit, wisdom and insight into the human condition. "Don't Trip Over the Pebbles in Your Path" is a valued compendium of observation and advice that will help the reader to deal with and value all the experiences encountered in life's unpredictable journey.

timely medical self-help book

It's easy to see why Dr.Solomon has been named as the #1 primary-care doctor in the Boston area, in surveys conducted by Boston Magazine. He has a commonsense, down-to-earth, yet authoritative style--which is evident in this timely, self-help health guide. He offers wise counsel and practical advice for a range of topical medical concerns and interests, including obesity, cancer, alternative remedies, and preventive measures. With his exceptional understanding, he deals with a person's emotional and psychological states, as well as the physical aspects of the various conditions and illnesses and the therapies, medications, vitamins, and treatments for them. In the self-help vein bolstered by his professional standing and two decades of experience, Dr. Solomon proffers for readers uneasy about, or perhaps even anxious over, various medical problems, a perspective on them that is positive for their overall well-being while sensibly taking into account their particular medical condition and their concerns. Dr. Solomon's definition of good health includes not worrying excessively about your health so you can enjoy life fully, which is the healthiest condition of all. He delivers a welcome perspective for many reader's in today's health-conscious culture.

The book stresses using common sense in the face of the over-hyped medical scene and frightening implications presented by the Media that we are all likely to be the victims of some dread disease. Dr Solomon's bedside manner is so rare today.

Dr. Spock For Adults

Physicians have written many books for the lay public that are narrowly focused on the medicine and the disease. "Don't Worry Be Healthy" offers a new and refreshing perspective that focuses on the patient from the physician's point of view. Have you ever wondered what your doctor is thinking about when you visit him or call him in the middle of the night? How does the physician "practice" when the remedy is related to attitude and behavior? The author, a noted Boston area internal medicine specialist, reveals how he evolved scientifically and emotionally to help patients confront and deal with a variety of health issues ranging from obesity, cancer, aging and death.

The perspective is unique because it comes from an experienced internal medicine physician whose insight and character have clearly advanced not only from his practice, but from his personal experience with cancer that infected not only him, but his wife, his father, his father-in-law, and his mother-in-law. Despite this Job-like journey, Dr. Solomon not only survives but also gains the wisdom to provide many useful lessons that help his patients and readers understand and deal with health and illness.

"Don't Worry Be Healthy" is very much like Dr. Spock's Baby & Child Care, but for adults. It offers impassioned and practical advice for people when confronted with illness - real or imagined.

This book is really not what I usually read. I don't remember how I stumbled onto it, but I'm so glad I did. I won't give the plot away, but here are a few details. It's a story of two families, two divergent paths of a religion with common roots (told with much respect and dignity for both), a story of love, and the best family story ever. It has lots of humor in it, the characters are memorable and come alive in your mind. If you like authors such as Nicholas Sparks, you'll love this one. It makes you feel good.

Jensen's book is a riveting tale of love between two people with vastly different cultures. For many polygamy is Utah's "dirty little secret" and Jensen brillantly illustrates the secrecy of these offshoot societies and the clash that occurs when their members interact with the mainstream population of Utah. Jensen's characters are wonderfully real and multi-faceted. You cannot help but love the many characters in this book. The story grabs you attention and the book is impossible to put down. This is a wonderful love story for people who believe in the possibility of soul mates.

Take Time to Live Your Life

Don't You Need Some Rest? is a breath of fresh air. Reading this book is like attending a soothing mental day spa. In our contemporary culture so many people are so overwhelmed with everyday concerns that they resort to anti-anxiety, anti-depression and anti-stress medications to survive. For many, life is a non-stop treadmill -- going, going, going without rest every day of the week.

Susie M. Paige, author of Don't You Need Some Rest? has an answer that could put Prozac out of business. It's simple: Just honor the Sabbath, which in effect, means taking time to value your life and your family. Regardless of religious affiliation, making time to enjoy life by participating in life affirming activities one day a week can work wonders for any stressed-out warrior of the business world, or families fractured by too many often meaningless activities.

Don't You Need Some Rest? offers heart-warming stories of what life used to be like (and still could be) in many families. Many young people today have never experienced the warmth and joy of close knit families that take one day a week to enjoy the benefits of rest, regeneration and re-connecting with each other. If you don't have a clue about what to do if you did take time to honor the Sabbath, Susie Paige offers suggestions for activities that could start wonderful healing traditions in your family.

After you read Don't You Need Some Rest?, you will wonder why you ever allowed so many opportunities to really enjoy life to slip away, just because you failed to put aside one day a week to stop and smell the roses and to honor and enjoy your blessings. The good news is that it's never too late. You deserve all the good things that accrue when you choose to honor the Sabbath.

Yesterday, I decided to relax and read this collection, given to me as a gift, and I must confess, I couldn't just stop at one! In fact, I read the whole book and made some (tearful) journal entries of my own. However, those tears were soon turned into joyful recollections of the special Sunday rituals, (literally) "stirring" Gospel renditions and inside jokes I had with my mom who passed into Glory 8 years ago, this month! The book was so enlightening and informative---It was the second time this weekend that the Lord led me to details about the "Blue Laws". My daughter has been reading a book about a boy and his special "Hot Fudge Hero", so I shared the information about the origin of Sundaes with her---she really got a kick out of it!!! God only knows how hungry I was after reading all of those stories about rolls!!!! It is amazing to see how far I've gotten away from those traditional meals and routines! I was convinced and convicted about rekindling those fires with my children, now that we are finally getting settled into our new home! "Don't You Need Some Rest?" jump-started a vital part of my worship! May it inspire others to pursue deeper intimacy with Him each Sabbath Day!

Simple and rewarding...soul enriching.

From the moment I read the first Sabbath story I felt as if I had been transported to a place where things were simple and calm. A time when people believed in morals and values. It's like sitting next to a fire and sipping a warm cup of tea, snuggled up under an old quilt.

The stories in "Don't You Need Some Rest?" will make you think more seriously about what a day of rest really means...and why we all need one.

Because of her beatiful looks, Tawni seems to be getting quite a lot of attenion, esecially from a guy named Jeremy. Will Sierra conquer her jealousy and enjoy her trip? You need to read this book!

I loved this book especially since I've read the Christy Miller books. I think it was awesome how Doug proposes to Tracy and Todd & Christy get to be the best man and maid of honor. I really identified with Sierra in this book. I can understand how she felt left out like that and jealous of her sister. She realises that she needs to pray about her relationship with her sister and let God take over it.

This book is soo cool and encouraging!! Definitely neato!!

I think it's the best of all the Sierra Jensen books. okily dokily!! well, hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!!:0)

Hours of doodling fun...

I ordered four copies of this book -- two for my own kids and two to have on hand for birthday gifts, etc.

We've only had the book in hand for two days and the doodling has begun in earnest. My 10-year-old read the whole thing cover-to-cover first, pointing out to me all of the snarky and irreverent commentary. The author approaches the readers on their level -- without a trace of condescension. I have already pre-ordered the next book.

Wholesome subversive fun for all ages!

This book brings back a rush of memory of drawing for sheer pleasure. A constant doodler in school, I would draw go-go checks and floating boxes in grade school, rock and roll logos in middle school, monsters and dogs, stars, rockets... I can't imagine getting through school without drawing. (Don't worry moms and dads, doodling actually helped my grades. It was a left brain/right brain thing.)

Now I'm an adult and I do graphic design for a living. Typefaces and pms colors and deadlines - blah, blah, blah. To my rescue comes my new doodle book and it's quickly filling up with trees and dogs, rockets and planets.

Nudged along gently by the suggestions in the book, this book is actually a sneaky sketchbook without the pretension and the pressure of Making Art. It's perfect for that creative kid you know who's itching to be grown up and the grown-up you know who needs to be a creative kid again.

A perfect gift for a difficult age group

The "notebook" offers fun hints -- and plenty of space in a composition book format -- for drawing your teacher, the tattoo your mom will never let you have, and the lunch you only wish the cafeteria would serve. It includes asides on famous doodlers such as Frida Kahlo. Although geared toward the preteen and teen set, it doesn't try too hard and it doesn't condescend. In short, it's cool. My son is 9 and my daughter is 12 and they both love their copies. We have purchased copies for their friends, who won't go anywhere without them. I can highly recommend this book, especially for kids who are bright and looking for something different.

This is a book you will probably want to buy in quantity. It's an affordable little 96-page compendium of the most relevant "Do's and Don'ts" of leading a group of people. What I like about this book is its simplicity. Each "Do" and each "Don't" is accompanied by a short story from real-life situations to help clarify the significant points. These are the issues that tend to get leaders in a lot of trouble, and Steve Herbelin has captured them nicely in this book.

Simple, direct, hits the target!

I started reading this book with a bit of skepticism. After all, it's written by the workers. Right from the start, though, this book makes sense. Lots of sense. It presents a philosophical outlook on team leadership that gets to the core --- interpersonal relationships --- without using superficial analogies or inventing contrived structures. Just common sense about how to deal with people and situations in a real, straightforward manner. Over and over again I found myself thinking things like, "Yes, I know that. That's true. Right on!" It's mostly things that we already know, but maybe need a little book like this to give us the confidence to more often do the right thing and act the right way. If everyone applied the principles outlined in "The Dos and Don'ts of Work Team Coaching," the world would certainly be a better place in which to work. I'm going to keep it handy and read it again someday, and again.

A friend of mine recommended this book to me and after reading this excellent work, I recommend it fully to my fellow Christian Amazonians. The author thoughtfully walks the reader through St John Bosco's dream and applies a systematic interpretation using disciplined approaches. In this journey, the author's dive into the details doesn't detract but rather adds to greater understanding of the role of the Church and the battles the Church faces. In addition, the author also provides very interesting comparisons to other dreams of St John Bosco as well as the Fatima secrets which I found very thought-provoking. I also appreciated the footnotes and the thorough references throughout.

Since the moment when Saint John Bosco unveiled this dream of the great ship to the five hundred youths within his ministry, it caused "no end of wonderment especially regarding the two popes." Today the speculation continues as many look to Pope Benedict XVI with hope that the new springtime in the Church will begin to bud. Author Tim Bartel offers insightful interpretations of the prophetic dream images including the mystery popes, their coinciding death and election, and the peculiar book-weapons. He reveals the specific causes of conflict between the Church and the world today, as well as recommends the devotions chosen by Jesus and Mary for the spiritual battle of this present time and in preparations for an age of peace.

I've been a fan of Saint John Bosco for years and this author's knowledge of facts is spot on. What I was able to get from this book that isn't in the others I've read is a good deal of context. He is excellent at drawing the big picture. The interpretation of both this dream and Fatima blew me away. And it's so well put together with everything so easy to find that I can use it as reference material.
