I agree with the previous reviewer. This book taught me so many things about how hanging on to past losses, failures, relationships, concepts and beliefs can be so unhealthy for us as human beings. Douty relates her own personal experiences as a way to help people feel they are not alone in these struggles. This book is very brave, honest account of how hanging on to the past can greatly impede our potential for peace and serenity in the present. This book was difficult for me to read at first because of the emotions involved and the extent to which I need to let go of so many things. But Douty comes out on the other side with lessons learned and a personal sense of inner peace that I aspire to every day. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is committed to travelling the sometimes frightening path to wholeness. This book will fill you with hope.

Our church book study group has read and discussed a large number of books in the last several years and this book provided the material to spark the deepest and most soul searching reading and discussion we have ever experienced. None of us being perfect, we found that all of the areas that the author explored were painful to many of us also. We appreciated that the end of the book gave concise guidelines on how to let go, and that the author was so painfully honest about the areas of her life she needed to let go.

Tremendous, compelling writing. I couldn't put it down. I could relate to so many of the stories in this book. It talks a lot about bettering your relationship with God, but it is about so much more than that. There's something in this book for virtually everyone.

The Bible for Beginning Actors

Review Date: 2004-06-18
Mr Logan's book is the most succinct and thorough guide for beginning actors that I've come across. The recommendations and advice given in the book is based on 30 years experience as a WORKING director in Hollywood. Unlike most acting coaches who are has-beens or never-will-bes and who give outdated or inacurate instruction, Mr Logan gives current and reliable advice collected methodically and tested over decades.

Mr Logan's writing style makes the book a quick and enjoyable read. I highly recommend this book to any beginning actor or anyone who is unhappy with their career development. And if you're lucky enough to have Mr Logan give a workshop in your town, don't miss it!

This book by Producer Tom Logan is an eye opener to any actor trying to find work in the industry. I am recommending this book to all my actor friends. This is a must have. This is the best book I have read so far about show business.

Easy to understand, funny and straight forward.... And to the point! People understand better when you get down to there level. And Mr. Logan can do just that in this book! I can keep praising this book all day! But I want you to read it and find out for yourself! You will be glad you did!

Mr. Logan if you read this. God bless you!

I just purchased an Antique Chris Craft and I wish I had bought this book first. The book has great tips about the different types of boats, what to look for when buying a boat, and discussion on Marine Surveyors. By the end of the book you will have a much better idea if you have the skills, time, tools, and shop to restore a wooden boat. I really appreciated that the author has strong opinions about various boat restoration processses and is not afraid to make them known. He explains in depth why he likes some techniques and doesn't like others. I found the book easy to read although I would recommend the reader spend a little extra time in the section on terms so you can follow directions. Definitely plan on also purchasing Vol 2.

Must Read For Ministry Leaders Today

Review Date: 2008-07-16
An absolute must read book for ministry leaders who want to better understand the process it will take for postmodern people to come to Christ. When I was a teenager, I went through Evangelism Explosion training at my church. Yet Evangelism Explosion doesn't resonate with people today, and unless we try to understand the 21st century mindset of post Christian people, our outdated evangelism efforts will continue to frustrate us. This is a very good book, a quick and very simple and easy to understand read about understanding how to relate and reach postmoderns for Christ

Ya Can't Treat Everyone The Same

Review Date: 2008-07-08
I was a little worried about the book's approach when it stated it that there are five stages a pre-christian goes through before understanding what it takes to make a commitment to Jesus (as in, "Oh no, not another formula..."). But as I read I saw these stages as not being so much "steps to peace with God" but more like "steps to understanding the journey they are on". It is a book that snaps everything into place in your head if you have ever tried to unsuccessfully (or successfully) lead someone to Jesus. You will say, "Oh, that's why that person reacted the way they did!". Many times we operate on a different level than people are on. Too many times we are too eager to dump all of our knowledge and training on someone who is asking for just a little understanding. Other times people are ready to make the commitment but we are not seeing it and we let the opportunity pass. This book helps you to discern where people are in their quest for Christ as well as letting you know you are not the only one who screws up the evangelism adventure. A must read!

Don & Doug,

thank you and IVCF for this resource. With all the postmodern stuff out there I found this book extremely helpful. I appreciate you guys not entering into the whole postmodern church deal and just sticking to ministering to people. The 5 threshholds were helpful with subpoints for each of them.

thank you for your honesty and for listening to your community and to God about turning your experiences into a resource.

How Not to be a Jerk for Jesus
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2008-05-24
For so many of us, sharing our faith is a frustrating exercise. We have the best of intentions, but end up being jerks for Jesus. We avoid non-Christians like the plague for a while. Then some one or some thing convinces us that we really ought to evangelize. So we gear up with self-righteous, fire and brimstone fear of hell for the next round.

And we wonder why Christians have a reputation for being judgmental, close-minded and angry. Why would anyone else want to be a Christian when we make it look so uncomfortable?

If this sounds familiar to you, you are going to love "I Once Was Lost". Get ready to be amazed at how easy sharing Jesus can be. It's a freeing, wonderful book full of insights and practical applications. Not a how-to book on evangelism. More like a how-come what we have been doing hasn't been working. And biblical, helpful ways to see the whole process of coming to Jesus differently than you ever have before.

Emphasizing relationship over religion and loving over lecturing; this book will give you the confidence to share what you love about Jesus and let Him handle the rest. A very special book that every Christian ought to read.

The book by Terri Johnson-Linzy entitled, ýI Understand that I Donýt Understand!ý, has got to be one of the most compelling, moving books that I have read for quite some time.
It speaks transparently about the tremendous emotional upheaval created by the loss of her husband. Having recently lost one of my sisters, I was greatly comforted and felt a sense of release from my personal pain as I began to read. I believe as you partake of this literary gift from God, you will be greatly blessed!!!

When I read "I Understand that I Don't Understand!" it ministered to me that, when we experience unexpected heart breaks, deaths, or situations in life that lead us to feel as if we've been deserted, and that no one cares, we must remember that God loves and cares for us. This book is an uplifting testimony about how much God loves us and that He is always there, through all episodes of life.

This book changed 49 years of my life and saved my marriage.

Review Date: 1999-10-15
A poor self image, trapped by repressions from my childhood, failed relationships, therapy, unsuccessful attempts to save my marriage and finally a devastating separation. My life was being destroyed. I knew something had to change but, I had no idea I was the problem and that I was holding all the answers. I did not like who I was or what I was doing to others. Loving myself was a foreign concept. The exercise in front of the mirror was a very emotional experience that started the process of bringing down walls. As I read on I gained an understanding of past behavior and how these patterns had been the root of my problems. I realized I had spent my life feeling depressed, lonely and sorry for myself. It's no wonder my wife started distancing herself from me. I still have a long road ahead of me but now I know that I can break away from what and who I was. When I find myself slipping back I listen to my 'inner selves' and frequently ask, where did that come, and 'we' talk. I haven't felt this good about myself in my entire life. My wife has noticed a change, we are still separated, and seeing the same therapist. We have 22 years of damagae to repair. Your book is my roadmap to a destination I have been searching out for my entire adult life. You have given us hope. Thank you.

I read this book back in the 80's and still remember its concepts. One of the ideas that stood out to me is that you don't have to be what you have been told you are or even what you think you are. We have many choices but they have been limited by focusing on one way of being. This usually starts in childhood when parents see us one way and the image grows until we believe that's what we are. The book has some great techniques to get you moving if you feel you're stuck in the same old pattern. The authors speak in a very honest, forthright manner and their words seem to jump from the page. This book gets you in touch with feelings and gets you moving. Highly recommend.

The suggestions, techniques, and growth-tasks in this book are exceptional. The book has changed my life, and would change it even more if I was willing to let it. You know that saying about how "when the student is ready..." ? If you're ready, this book is a damn good teacher. Here's the downside: the two writers are very different, and one is sarcastic, overly-aggressive, and a big turn-off. The other is reasonable and presents his views in a neutral manner. It's impossible to tell which writer is which, but the one who writes the scenes with dialogue should back off. Aside from that, I can say that I'm no fan of self-help books, but I am a fan of this one. It's insightful, powerful, and effective.

A new application from Daniel and the lion's den
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-22
Don't Cry, Lion! pairs two greats in Christian children's literature. Author Dandi Daley Mackall has over 400 titles to her credit. Illustrator Elena Kucharik is best known as creator and lead illustrator for the Care Bears. She also illustrated the entire Little Blessings series and many more.

Don't Cry, Lion! tells the story of Daniel in the lions' den. Using rhyming verse, the story is told from the point-of-view of a tiny lion. He introduces us to a mean lion, Big-Mouth Leo, and tells how frightened he is of him. Being stuck in the den with Leo and a number of other bully lions, the little guy remembers to pray. Just then Daniel is dropped into the pit. Before Leo can reach him, an angel appears and reprimands Leo. Daniel reminds the frightened, little lion: "That bully might be pretty big, but not as big as God." The book concludes with an application: "So when you meet a bully, who is twice the size of you ... Ask God to help you, too!"

What I Like: The illustrations are fantastic! I also love the application. This is a different angle, one which kids can easily understand and apply. I like the different perspective. While the story takes some creative liberties, it does a great job making this story appeal to young readers. My daughter LOVES this book! We read it several times a day.

What I Dislike: The angel claims Daniel showed Leo how to pray and that's why the lion kept his mouth shut. It seems to make Daniel's safety a result of the lion's decision rather than the protection of God. It's a very small detail, and considering the many other references to God, it detracts very little from the overall value of the book.

Age Appeal: The publisher says 4-8, but I think even infants would enjoy this book.

Overall Rating: Very Good.
