This book was purchased for a "senior" who enjoyed the game but wanted more of a variation to her playing cards, and the print was large enough for her to follow, and she enjoys using the book to make the card game more challenging. Its a book that is not just for kids!

"Lucky 13" is well written, clearly illustrated and a must have for families! The introduction explains simply all the terms and basics of solitaire(some of which are a great brush up for the adult!). Although the book does get into advanced games and strategies, the first section, "Beginning Games" is awesome for any age. My 7 and 5 year olds picked up these games quickly. Order a copy for vacation or home!! A rainy day lifesaver!

Great book - have fun and expand your child's mind!

I bought this book for my nephew, and he loved it. What a great way to not only have some fun, but also stretch your kid's mind. It is also good for keeping the kids busy on rainy days. This Micheal Street really understands how to explain games to children. Extremely well written.

As someone who was an English Lit major and an obsessed poker player, I can't think of a better book than Mr. Apostolico's Machiavellian Poker Strategy. I loved it! A real thinking man's approach based on one of the most compelling books of all time. Mr. Apostolico has written many great books, which I implore you to get. But, personally, this is my favorite.

Several interperative books are avaliable. Unfortunately, few of them are imported into the USA. One that is avaliable is called Titania's Fortune Cards. This book is an excellent resource guide to using Mlle Lenormand's 36 card deck. Mlle. Lenormand also created a 54 card deck called the Grand Lenormand

great deck!

Lenormand deck exists in 4 versions and can be a powerful tool to predict the future. unfortunately no serious book is available in english to master this little deck. the information booklet will frustrate you because of its simplistic and unpractical approach. But if you are searching for a collection deck and want to study it, you will find it very interesting. one day a english language study book will be available...we can only hope as french and german language ones are quickly out of print or out of stock.

Great for beginners

Beginners will find the Lenormand cards easy to learn because there is a descriptive poem written on each card foretelling its fate.

Collectors of Tarot cards will find this deck a charming addition to their collection, with historical significance, as Mlle. Lenormand was the psychic consult of Napoleon & Josephine.

Tired of listening to all your friends and coworkers talk about how much fun they have playing Texas Hold'Em. I was, but not knowing how to play kept me from going to any games. I saw this book on line and decided to give it a try. The book was great !!! Very easy to read and gave me all the basic rules and strategies. I went to my first game last weekend and came in second place !!!! Now I can't wait to play again. Don't miss out on the fun.

This book is terrific for newcomers to the Texas Hold 'em scene. Everything you need is right here in an easy to follow layout. The book is designed for both the novice and the more experienced player. I found that once I had read the book I could easily go back and find the section that I was interested in. The strategy sections are particularly helpful. I found the advice on when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em especially good.

What a precious book. From the day I read about it in the paper, I was interested. Several of my friends look for ways to entertain our kids at their birthday parties. This book itself is a birthday parthday theme. I ordered two just from reading the review in the paper. I just received them today. I have read it and are now at the computer ordering more for several kids birthday's. Kids spend to much time watching games on TV and not enough time playing them. The book encourages family time, too. You can tell it was written from her heart with the true love for children and their happiness. Thank you for writing this book!

GAMEKIDS, international natural play webmagazine and club highly recommends this book to our members. The book features some of the best games for children of all ages to play. The book contains some of the classics - many of which children today perhaps have never heard of (i.e. kick the can, run sheep run, horse, etc.)

There are over 200 games: outside games, car games, card games, singing games and campfire songs, and some of the best party games we've seen!

This is truely a classic which every family, school, and library should have!

The Osho Zen Tarot deck is truely a remarkable tool. The artwork is exquisite, the card descriptions accurate, and the corresponding quotes are inspirational.

Unlike many divination systems that focus on what is happening around or to the querant, this deck brings to the forefront the internal issues that are the root of the issues. This deck also gives insight into possible solutions that involve personal transformation on a variety of levels.

The Osho Zen Tarot is very easy to use....the images are so emotionally evocative they are self explanitory. i was able to do readings without any outside reference after reading the book once.

A wonderful divinitory tool.....a must for self improvement as well as readings for friends.

My favorite deck...

I didn't know much about zen, but this is a wonderful place to start. I love this deck. It has very beautiful pictures, nicer than most I've seen on other decks, and there's a positive spin on all cards. Includes different major arcana (22 total) than traditional decks - with such things as "Breakthrough", "No-thingness", "Thunderbolt" (much like the Tower) and "Transformation", as well as "The Master". Has four suits in the Minor arcana which go from Ace to 10, plus court cards, but the suits are different, including fire, water, clouds, and rainbows. All cards have a concept title and outstanding understandable pictures. The book clearly explains meanings of each card and its relation to zen and shows several different layouts for readings. Outstanding, different, beautiful tarot deck.

FANTASTIC!

All old traditions,Zen,Buddhism and many others have been rebellions agains traditional systems at their time. They all have been the beginning of something new. History has turned them by and by again into old traditions, which have not much to say to us today. This Osho Zen Tarot speaks to you, as a human being of today. It does not claim to teach you old encient wisdom. With this tarot deck you will find a mirrow for your own inner world. The cards you pull reflect your own being of this moment. I can recomend the tarot to everybody. Every little quote from Osho is a reminder who we are.

You should already be an above average player before tackling this.
-Heavy focus on signaling.
-When to mislead partner on defense.
- Partnership quizzes - these alone are woth the price of the book

Many interesting examples of creative suit preference signals
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2006-05-23
Like many books on defense this book covers the basics of Signaling (Attitude, Count, Suit Preference). It also expands on these and has numerous examples of creative suit preference signals, such as when Attitude and Count are known or irrelavent using teh spot cards for signals. There is a nice section on Deceptive Declarer play, or how to mask the defenders signals. The sections have a number of examples and then some problems for the reader. These problems are not trivial, but they are not super hard either.

This is a good book to read after you have read Eddie Kantars Modern and Advanced Bridge Defense, and Mike Lawrences Dynamic Defense.

If you are not already a solid defender would not start with this book, instead start with Kantar.

An excellent book on a vital part of the game

If one browses through a collection of books on bridge, what will one find? There will be some books about bridge matches, showing how some great players made some great plays (often as declarer). There will be some books on bidding systems and conventions. Some books on declarer play. And, of course, not even last and certainly not least, a few books about defense. But even these books are often oriented towards individual defensive skills. They are geared towards the player who can walk into a game and score well with a pickup partner.

But that leaves out the partnership aspect of the game.

Many of the books that emphasize partnership deal primarily with what system to play, what conventions to play, and how to test one's partnership's ability to arrive at good contracts.

However, there's a big need to defend well. That means agreeing on what signals are to be used and when they are to be used, and it means practicing them! And this well-written book will be of good use for your partnership if you go through it together.

There are 52 hands. Mike Lawrence walks you through all his thoughts as he plays those hands. This is a once in a lifetime chance to sit behind a great player and have him tell you why he is doing what he is doing. Not a book for beginners, but if you are developing a good feel for the game of bridge, this book will be invaluable, not to mention interesting.

Yes, you will learn a lot, but oh, so painlessly. Mike has a sly, dry sense of humor mixed with dispassionate common sense that emphasizes the need to size up your opponents. All the technical skill in the world will not save you if you misjudge who is sitting to your right and left. Mike has an enormous ability to get through to the reader what it takes to be effective. I recommend this book and the similar "Play Teams with Mike Lawrence" (my favorite) as an introduction to his more serious books. I own most of them, and through the years I would say every one of them has improved my game, some enormously.

Some years ago I wrote to Mike about a hand that I was proud of the result, but my more traditional player/friends scorned my wizardly thinking. I held S-QJ10, H-XX-D-XX C-A10XXXX. Partner opened one heart. For various systemic reasons the bid 1NT was not available to me. I cleverly bid 1S; confusion reigned, and we received an excellent result--but my purist friends were horrified at my bid. Mike's response to my letter was "did you ever hear of the word 'pass'?" I loved it.

To serious and non-serious bridge players, get this book. It's a treat!

Excellent LOD Card Reference - Highly recommend

I first bought the LON version of the book and was floored by the writing, knowledge and the definite love of the game. When this title came out I promptly purchased it.

Like the LON version the Specifics highlights are almost identical: 1) They start off the book by analyzing the impact of the new release of cards (LOD series) into the current card environment. This is very important since each card series release is aware of the past sets. 2) They also analize the impact onto the different class of deck types (Exodia, Clown Control, Weenie rush, Swarm, etc) 2) At an absolute card level, each card is separatly reviewed by two people/Players so there is a double reference and support and knowledge when a card is great or stinks. 3) The book also has top 10 lists and Deck building by various methods in detail.

This book was not just authored, but the people reviewing were avid players in the curcuit of Yugioh National Tournaments.

Bill 'pojo' Gill oversees the book as a project and finnesses the entire series. I own the LON, LOD and PGD of the series and await the new books. An excellent surprise to any Yugioh fan would be all three books.

I highly recommend this book for avid collectors or players who 'truely' enjoy the game on many levels of pleasure.

Excellent, But Some Contradictions

This is an excellent book. The reviews of individual cards are represented from two views, so there is some variation, but most of the rankings are right next to each other. The place where the contradictions come in are that when the whole set is looked at, many of the "must-have" cards were rated middle-of-the-pack during individual reviews.

The other material in the book is worth the price alone. Good suggestions on strategy and deck building, with many sample decks shown.

I play Yugioh with my son weekly. I love the strategy and card work it brings to an era of TV/video games. This book is amazing in the strategy, collecting and play of the cards. The Heart of the Cards.

I bought this book this past summer on a whim and was amazingly surprised how in-depth the cards were reviewed. The book explains in detail why certain cards or desk are good and how you can improve the decks.

Specifics highlights: 1) They start off the book by analyzing the impact of the new release of cards (LON series) into the card environment. Amazing! 2) They also acertain the impact onto the different class of deck types (Exodia, Clown Control, Weenie rush, Swarm, etc) 2) Each card is reviewed by two people/Players so there is a double reference and support and knowledge when a card is great or stinks. 3) The book also has top 10 lists and Deck building by various methods in detail.

Bill 'pojo' Gill oversees the book as a project and finnesses the entire series. I own the LON, LOD and PGD of the series and await the new books.

I highly recommend this book for avid collectors or players who 'truely' enjoy the game on many levels of pleasure.
