This book was an assigned read for a CRM survey class and I certainly know why now. Thomas King goes into detail about what
culture resource managment archaeology is and is not, while making the reading easy and humor-filled. This book was an excallent
introduction to CRM archaeology for me as a student and also for anyone having to deal with any aspects of CRM!!!!!

Boy, oh boy! This is a wonderful text!
Glenda Naughton has written on deconstruction, politics, and ethics in early childhood education, but here she just gives us the basics from a has of experts.
The best part about this book is how the concepts go from the simple to the complex. It starts off with quantitative (mean, mode, standard deviation, chi square, correlation, regression, etc.) and moves to the qualitative (surveying, interviewing, observationa/participatory research, ethnography, naturalistic design).
Its an excellent starting point for EC pros looking to better understand scholarly journals. It stops just short of multilevel modeling. I suggest you get a good qualitiatve textbook and quantitative textbook to go along with it.

I so much enjoyed reading this book! These are personal memories of Winnicott and Bowlby, two of the most important British
contributors to psychoanalysis and psychotherapy in the 20th century. More than half is written by Judith Issroff, a contemporary
who worked closely together with them for many years. Further chapters are added by two more experts. It is written in a
lively style, completely brings to life Winnicott and Bowlby, comparing them, contrasting them, doing full justice to both,
and supplying many hitherto unknown details of their lives, usually in the form of anecdotes, some funny, some deep and full
of wisdom. The book would be useful and enjoyable to read for psychotherapy students as well as practitioners, and is a must
for any researchers or future biographers. It contains a vast bibliography of the mushrooming recent literature about Winnicott
and Bowlby.

The author gives an interesting look at navigating a bomber
at night during World War 2, but what sets this book apart
is the author's analysis of bombing during the War.
While I disagree with his theory that the War could have been
ended in 1943 (I doubt Hitler thought he was defeated)
his views on the morality of area bombing make for a very
interesting read.

This text provides informative and up to date information regarding a broad range of drug related topic. Althought the reading
level is not easy, the information is extremely useful for drug counselors. The information presented regarding psychopharmacology
provides an excellent base of preparation for the certification test used in many states. I highly recommend this text as
well as many of the web site exercises.

This is not the typical drum method book of style/technique. I hope this book will be a classic in not too many years. It
Talks about music, about being musical, and being confident and serious about music. I recommend this book to any serious
musician, or aspiring serious musician (not only drummers) so is valid for guitarists and bassist to know about what a drummer
must have to do and to understand the "drum prerspective". Erskine give us soo, so many of his own thoughts and tips to understand
music and drumming is a beautiful art and how can we focus on it.
This is an excellent book, recomended to all. And Erskine is one of the best elite drummers of all time (listen to the included audio Cd), don't overrate it. This book is pure love, and a gift from Peter Erskine to us.

The ambiguous dance between grace and free-will lost a step with the recent passing of Stephen Duffy's life. His book, The
Dynamics of Grace: Perspectives in Theological Anthropology, is a most stimulating perspective on the partnership of grace
with free-will. As a former student of Duffy's at Loyola of New Orleans, I could clearly see his knowing wit and smile percolate
through words of angst in describing God's revelation. This book is a gift to all serious theologians.
For Duffy, revelation is more than an arbitrary Bartian thunderbolt that crashes through reality and also more than a Neo-Platonic reflection of past experiences. Likewise, the dynamic between grace and free will describes a moving relationship beyond an understanding of one versus the other. It is dynamic.
Duffy's book brings readers face-to-face with the contributions and discrepancies of systematic theologians who embrace the study of grace with a passion and love which shall endure the bonds of this life.

The Dynamics of Language Use: Functional And Contrastive Perspectives edited by Maria de Los Angeles Gomez-Gonzalez, Susanna
M. Doval Suarez (Pragmatics and Beyond New Series: John Benjamins Publishing) This book brings together a collection of articles
characterized by two main themes: the contrastive study of parallel phenomena in two or more languages, and an essentially
functional approach in which language is regarded, first and foremost, as a rich and complex communication system, inextricably
embedded in sociocultural and psychological contexts of use. The majority of the studies reported is empirical in nature,
many making use of corpora or other textual materials in the language(s) under investigation. The book begins with an introductory
section in which the editors provide surveys of the state of the art in both functional and contrastive linguistics. The other
five sections of the volume are devoted to (i) a cognitive perspective on form and function, (ii) information structure, (iii)
collocations and formulaic language, (iv) language learning, and (v) discourse and culture.
Excerpt: The book begins with two papers which strongly reflect the importance of cognitive phenomena in the study of form and function in language.
Wallace Chafe's paper tackles head-on the important but difficult question of the relationship between grammar and thought, his treatment of this issue being funda?mentally functional in nature. His starting point, namely that thoughts are filtered through the particular semantic resources permitted by the language, and that seman?tic structures are then converted to grammatical structures which are then symbolised by sounds, is uncontroversial. What is essentially functional about Chafe's position is the contention that for an understanding of why grammar is as it is, linguists need to pay more rather than less attention to grammar per se and more to semantics and its relationship with thought, as well as to language change. Chafe postulates four linked stages in the conversion of thoughts to semantic structures. Firstly, the speaker must select which thoughts s/he wishes to verbalise. Secondly, these thoughts must be categorised. Most thoughts consist of particular ideas relating to particular people, things, events, times and places, and these ideas must be recast as instances of more general and familiar categories. Thirdly, the speaker must select a complex orientation consisting of values for time, place, epistemological factors and attitude. Finally, categorisations and orientations must be combined. In explaining why the re?sulting semantic structure must be converted into a grammatical structure on its way to representation in sound, Chafe points out that as languages change, the relationship between the use of expressions and the thoughts they convey may become less direct, through the historical processes of lexicalisation, relating to ideas, and grammaticali?sation, concerned with orientations. Chafe's arguments are illustrated throughout by reference to an extended piece of authentic conversational interaction.
