Perspective Books

This book has been impossible to buy for a decade now, and I continue to miss having it. It provides a thorough and historical comprehension of the field of international education. It has a nice written style, concepts are well described and it is context oriented. I hope a third edition is a future plan of both editors and publishers.

An excellent introduction to the turbulent period in Britain leading up to the First World War. The author divides his book into themes - constitutional reform, the Irish crisis, the suffragettes, etc - and makes everything much easier to understand than contemporaries must have found it. Solid analysis is combined with an exceptionally clear writing style.

In Part I, Assessment and Identification Practices, the reader has the oppurtunity to explore and examine issues surrounding these practices for African American students with exceptionalities, including those with gifts and talents. Part II. Antecedent Factors Surrounding Complementary School Learning Enviroments, includes the following topics: self-concept models for African American exceptional students; communication patterns of African American learners; curricular and pedagogical procedures for African American learners with academic and cognitive disabilities; cultural framework for educating students classified as having emotional of behavioral disorders; and the restructuring of teacher education programs to enhance leadership and teaching skills of professionals regarding inclusiveness for African Americans. In Part III, The Home-Community-School Pyramid Connection, the contributors investigate the roles of African American parents and communities. They address the restructuring of the balance of power and/or networking between professionals, African American parents, and communities. Finally, Part IV, Alternative Models, features two exemplary models presently providing effective educational services to African American youth. Embedded in this examination are the philosophical, curricular, and pedagogical bases for the Foreign Language Immersion and Cultural Studies School in Detroit, Michigan, and the Marcus Garvey School in Los Angeles, California. - except from book's preface

Karl Luckert's Egyptian Light is a must-read for any student of religion, but especially those interested in Greek, Hebrew, and Egyptian studies. After providing his own well thought out but simple theory of how religion works, and his original definition of the word "religion," Luckert delves into the origins of Christianity in the Ancient Mediteranian world. With great expertise, Luckert examines many features of Christianity and traces their origins back to these three great cultures. The book is convincing but playful and original.

This is a well-written, well thought out, scripturally-based treatise on the topic of elders and deacons. I recommend it to those that have a shepherd's heart for the people of God, and also to those sincere believers that want to know more of what the Bible has to say about elders and deacons.

The rapidly developing liberalization of the energy markets takes many diverse directions in the different countries and continents. The editors F. Sioshansi and W. Pfaffenberger aim at a comparative study of these developments in order to draw some conclusions on what is going well and where there are disadvantages for the different players. In the foreword the editors point out that there are several market studies available but this volume represents a concise, systematic and up to date comparison on a worldwide basis to identify working and not working market models.

The book is an important contribution to the fact that electricity sector reforms have significant potential benefits but also carry the risk of large potential costs if the reforms are implemented incompletely or incorrectly. This book represents a broad and very valuable overview of the liberalization processes and regulatory models in different electricity markets throughout the world. The documentation of this experience represents an important contribution to improve the existing markets and to control the future development in the right direction. Lessons learnt from errors in the past may help to more efficient solutions in the future. The editors' aim to provide a complete and objective comparison of different electricity markets has well been achieved. The book provides a well-founded source for future analyses and studies. In this context, the numerous references of books and papers provided by the authors are most helpful.

I used this book for a CTUonline.edu class and have found it to be very well written. I am already familiar with how the e-commerce world works, but for those that are not, it does a great job of explaining just about everything. Plenty of website references and case studies so that you understand HOW businesses are implementing various e-commerce strategies.

As a student, I found that buying my text from Amazon on-line, saved me at least half price. I investigated other sellers and found that Amazon was the better seller.

In my opinion, this book is an excellent synthesis of the state of the art in judgement and decision making (for short: JDM) research. It shows what has been achieved so far and it indicates key topics of future research. I won't attempt to review the entire book (see e. g. Nickerson in: Journal of Mathematical Psychology, Vol. 48, 2004, p. 199-210), but I will try to give an idea of why this book can be a valuable source for people not belonging to the community of JDM researchers.
JDM research has been a very active field for decades, leading to a bulk of publications. The present book seems to be singular, because the authors of the different articles do not only summarise the work they have done so far, but they also try to reveal very basic concepts and limitations of their various research programs. This kind of information tends to get lost in everyday research and publications related to it, but such inforamtion is indispensible for a precise and comprehensive overview and for evaluating what has been achieved so far. Just to give an example: Human JDM capabilities can be seen as a powerful resource for coping with particular tasks or it can be considered to be a source of biases and pitfalls, which impede people's mastering of such tasks. Most reaerchers can be assigned to one of these two curreents. What is still missing is a comprehensive model which reveals which factors and factor combinations determine whether a decision is "good" or "bad", "biased" or "rational". Such models should not only apply to the artificial tasks used in laboratory studies preferred by many JDM researchers, they should also help understand people's coping with real-life JDM tasks. The authors of the different articles succeed in indicating their particular point of view and research interets and they succeed in showing strehgths and weaknesses of their approaches in relation to the work of their colleagues. A concluding chapter by Doherty provides an additional, very systematic, and very concise outline of the different research paradigms, of their relationships and of the topics which so far have either been neglected of not been treated in much detail. The prersent book is therefore very illuminating with respect to the basic orientations, current state and main desiderates of JDM research.

This is an excellant book for anyone who wants indepth sense of writing or reading poetry. Osundare as you will see has an excellant ability of expressing through poetry. Contributing writers express great critiqes for learning Osundares work and expression. I felt I would be more than satisfied from a brief review before reading it and I have not been disappointed.
