Diabolically Provocative and Entertaining Sci-FiReview Date: 2007-12-20
Tetrasomy Two is an exceedingly well-formed, deliriously readable, and psychologically insightful (the author was, after all, a psychiatrist) story about a super-intelligent human residing in a mental hospital. This conceit is deceptively simple. The execution, however, is unusually sophisticated. Without revealing too much of his technique, I will note that Rossiter brilliantly de-familiarizes the traditional patient/hospital narrative. Although the shifting states of mind of the narrator can be, initially, bewildering, the narrator's irresistibly likable geekiness pulls you into his world (and what a fabulous world it is!).
The quickening of singularly extraordinary mental faculties, to a degree that verges on madness, is explored persuasively and in an acutely satisfying way. The author takes you on a terrifyingly surreal, careening voyage to the very edge of perceptual reality. This is science fiction that daringly re-conceives the genre. So travel light, but do come along for the ride.

extreem intelligence and madnessReview Date: 2000-12-06
Tetrasomy two is the name for the extra chromosome pair that the protagonist (a young psychiatrist) discovers in his vegetable patient. A patient that seems to have much more influence on his environment than one would expect from someone who hasn't spoken or moved for nearly 50 years. Rositter describes the search for answers of the doctor, and how he tries to walk the very fine line between sanity and madness in discovering the disturbing thruth.
The book has well rounded characters. It's a good read, has tension and speed, and really gets to you. Though this book is classified as science fiction, I'm sure people who like books on psychology, ESP, hospitals or horror would also really appriciate this book.

A must read bookReview Date: 2002-07-11
His first was shows the struggles of a young American of Mexican decent making his way in life at an early age. When Roy Benavidez entered the Army he had no idea what was to become of him for the rest of his life.
Roy's second war covers his time in the military. His training is explained in this book. His tours of duty are also explained. His courage under fire is really covered very well. He wasn't suppose to be on board a chopper when it went to rescue some fellow soldiers but he jumped on at the last minute to help in any way he could. He soon found himself embroiled in a battle for life--his life.
He was one of a very few survivors that fateful day. His struggle to live makes this book. BUT his third war was that of fighting the US Government for recognition of what he had done--and yet it wasn't he who was doing the fighting--it was those others who survived who wanted him honored. It took more than a decade but he finally received the Medal of Honor.
As a footnote to this review--a ship was named for him and christened on 21 July 2001. The USNS Roy P Benavidez will no doubt see action in a war just like its namesake.
