I am a Yoga instructor & I use this book all the time to close my Yoga classes. Easy to read because of the large type & all the poems are on one page so you can gage your timing when reading.

This is a book filled with positive statements, short and long. They are grouped by topic, and make a great companion to other Jeffers self-help books. When I'm feeling blue, or when I just want a refresher in some of Susan's positive ideas, I just start reading through this book. It is amazing how encouraging different statements can be at different times.

Here are some samples chosen at random from the book: "Allow yourself confusion as you walk through life. It is our way of sorting things out. It is through confusion that we finally come to clarity." Or another: "When in the center of your Higher Self, you always have the best seat! It's always your party! The source of our love comes from within. No one out there is that source. It makes sense to go to the source." Another: "No matter what is going on in your life, you always have to remind yourself 'I am a strong, loving, and worthy person.' All situations in life flow harmoniously from this profound understanding of who you are." And so on. I highly recommend this book as a companion to Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway, along with Feel the Fear and Beyond.

If you have no other books related to leadership be it civic, military, or business this is the one book you must own. As an officer and a business professional, I have found this to be a powerful tool for "silent leadership" for use as a gift for people with leadership potential (All men & women).

I am not going to write a lot about this little book, except to say that I find it very interesting and I refer to it regularly. So much do I like it that I've managed on many occasions to get my primary school daughter to read some of it.

Advice is easier to give than to take

This is the kind of collection of thoughts that I especially like. It selects sayings of the great thinkers and collects them around the following headings- Adversity, Character,Conscience, Courage, Discipline,Effort, Enthusiasm, Goodness, Happiness, Honesty, Honor, Humility , Justice, Kindness, Love, Principles, Responsibility, Service, Tolerance, Vice.
I found it a bit odd that there were no words of wisdom here on how to be in the upper income- class make a lot of money and be nice also. This would seem to me a kind of supreme moral test for Forbes' readers.
The introduction to the volume says that Forbes introduced these thoughts on the ' business of life' to inspire " a philosophic mode, broad sympathies, charity towards all. I have faith that the time will eventually come when employees and employers, as well as all mankind, will realize that they serve themselves best when they serve others most"
B.C. Forbes
To me the motive for the volume sounds wonderful , and it is a principle of life I strive myself to realize. However my sense is that when we speak of the business world, the capitalistic world this may be somewhat highfalutin and hypocritical talk.
In any case the small volume is filled with riches, and its parts are better in a sense than the whole( Since I doubt anyone reads it as a whole, but rather dips into it here and there.)
Here are some of its gems.

" I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct will pursue his principles unto death'. Thomas Paine

Keep true, never be ashamed of doing right: decide on what you think is right, and stick to it. George Eliot

Tolerance is the positive and cordial effort to understand another's beliefs, practices and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them. Joshua Leibman

Courage is the supreme virtue because it is the guarantor of every other virtue. Bergen Evans

The title says it all. Your attitude really does matter -- each and every day. I found this to be a thought-provoking inspirational book that applies to your life at home and work. In other words, this is a quote book that has a defined purpose. I am very glad I bought it and I already have given it as a gift.

Beautifully done Primer or Reminder
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-25
This is a beautifully produced (bound, selected and arranged) little book of quotes. The selections touch on the Indian roots of the Tibetan traditions (beginning with Buddha Shakyamuni), as well as all four of the main lineages once Buddhism developed in Tibet, although the emphasis is on the Nyingma/dzogchen lineages (from ancient to modern times). They are mostly short, a few lines, or one to two pages at most, the kind of thing helpful to keep at your bedside, or in the bathroom, or as a travel companion for quick reminders and inspiration. The selections are quite varied; ranging from pithy and profound to common prayers and guidelines to conduct. And as with all of Kunsang's translations this is a trustworthy mix of authentic and accessible communication.

A typical example is one like this, titled, The Essence of Cho:

"Compared to begging one hundred times, "Save me, protect me!".
It is much more effective to say once, "Devour me!"
