Insight Books

I found the suggested routes and hotel/gallery/hotel listings espacially useful. This is the only guide I used for my vist to Boston, and it worked well for me.

This is a great compact guide, which is easy to tote around and refer to. The travel tips section suggested a great variety of galleries and restaurants, and was helpful in planning how to get around the city (my first time in Boston). I used Insight Guide: Boston to plan my trip, and then carried the compact guide around in my purse when touring the city. Both the Insight Guide and the Insight Compact Guide to Boston were great fo rme, and I would recommed either or both to anyone planning a trip to (the really nice) city of Boston.

I found this guide to be both thorough and user friendly. Loaded with great photographs, it made planning our activties as a family really fun. The suggested routes are very well explained and mapped, and we enjoyed following them around Martha's Vineyard. Next stop, Nantucket!

This handy little guide really proved useful and fun to read, and suggested sites we probably wouldn't have located without it. We visited a number of the restaurants and galleries it suggested and were never disappointed. I recommend this book.

Very nice guide book that was easy to carry during our travels. Plenty of information for the price and size. Highly recommend.

The publisher has the bad habit of hiding the names of authors of their compact guides, let me rectify this:

The guide was written by Nicholas Cobb, the splendid color photography was provided by Tim McKenna.

On mere small 121 pages, Cobb's book provides the essential information about the (tragic) history of Tahiti and about the contemporary marvels of its nature, attractions and the hospitality.

McKenna's photography is magnificent and its value cannot be underestimated: Compared to the black and white photography in books from Lonely Planet and Moon Handbooks, with their sometimes abysmal print quality, this travel guide really shines. In its photographic valors and in the quality of print Insight Guides match the best of the breed, including the Eye-Witness DK guides. The charts and maps of the islands are also in color. Without clutter, they really depict well only the important details of interest for a short time visitor.

Of course, 121 pages cannot contain all the information which you might find in David Stanley Tahiti Moon Handbook, thus I would suggest to take Stanley as the primary source of information. However, considering the moderate price, this guide is a most welcome extension and a "must have!" It is current, 2005 edition, compared to 2003 editions of others. Foremost, currently this is probably the only guide about Tahiti written after Marlon Brando passed away. Somehow I do not like to read about a dead person in 'present tense'...

My only regret is that Insight does not provide a larger version of this guide! Maybe they will, I will grab it as well!

Great map! Very detailed and easy to use. Be sure to get the free ones that that the city gives out also. They are in every hotel lobby. Combined with this map you shouldn't get lost.

This will be the third year I have used a Day to Day calendar featuring the Dalai Lama and I am very excited about this new product. "Words of Wisdom" made by Andrews McMeel Publishing has been the Dalai Lama calendar product for the last two years but it is replaced this year with "Insights from the Dalai Lama." Having read through some of the daily quotes after purchasing it, and having compared it to the previous years quotes (some of which I saved) I have found them to be pleasingly similar. I recommend this calendar to anyone and especially those who have appreciated the words of the Dalai Lama in the past. I think I will give quite a few to my friends for Christmas and I hope you may enjoy it too.

This Calendar is great. Every day I read a new quote from the Dalai Lama and get a piece of wisdom. This calendar is great for everyone even if your not Buddhist

I researched Australia for over a year prior to my April 2002 visit there, and I read as many guides and books as I could find. While in Australia I purchased a local behemoth encycledia of the country, thinking that was as good as it gets.

I found the Insight Guide at my local library after I returned, and I am convinced this is THE single book anyone with more than a passing interest in Australia should buy.

The very heavy paper presents the beautiful color pictures in high resolution, and the articles are written in a complete yet entertaining style. Australian artwork highlights the history section. The sites of interest descriptions are entertaining and concise. I actually did not read the last section (travel tips)in depth since I had already returned from my vacation, but even without that section the book would be a great read.

This is NOT the book to carry with you on your vacation - there are plenty of other lighter guides that have more useful trivia like hotels and restaurants. This is the book to read and enjoy before you leave home. It is an excellent overall introduction to the country.

My daughter is beginning to study Australia in her 2nd grade class - I have ordered a copy to let her take to school.

I highly recommend this book. At the very least, check it out of your library to look at the pictures.

Once again the Insight Guides have done a superb job. After two trips to this marvelous Central American country I can only say that the guide has fully done it justice. If you can read this guide and not go there, you're a stronger man than I am.

This is one of the best travel books I have ever used. It emphasizes things to do and see, also history and culture about the area. It uses informative maps and photos of Belize that I found very helpful.

This book is a good resource on Edinburgh, especially considering how few books there are on Edinburgh only. The photos are nice, and the book contains good, useful information! Definitely worth getting if you're planning a trip to Edinburgh!

300 pages doesn't even BEGIN to cover Edinburgh. This is a place with a history that makes that of any US city look like an appendix. Stop moaning; if you don't want to learn about Edinburgh, buy a different book! Try a more general book on Scotland, for instance. What a ridiculous criticism to make. I lived in Edinburgh for a year and this book was superb in fleshing out details about the significance of different parts of the city, and in pointing out places that even many locals didn;t know about. It left me feeling like I could get a job as a tour guide. That's exactly what I want from a guidebook. If you don't, fair enough, but don't criticize the book for not being a good match for you.

I am planning a trip to Japan next spring; after examining many guides, I am glad I bought this one. It's current, beautifully organized and well illustrated with nice photography. I never bought Insight guides before, but this one will not be my last.

We just got back from Japan 3 days ago it was a wonderful two weeks. This book was a tremendous help. It has wonderful maps details of things to see on the maps. It even mentions train stations to help you get to where you are going. It goes thru the history of Japan as well a great section on the most popular places to see and eat at in Japan.

It gives wonderful information like the Shinjuku Station is the busiest in Japan with over 3 million people passing thru it each and every day. We experienced that when we went to see the Shinjuku Gyoen. There were so many people everywhere and you felt packed like a sardine but it was exciting to be apart of that experience. They actually have people there that will shove people into the train so that they can get as many people on as possible. Its crazy!

Every night we would sit in our room with this book and our train map and plan out what we were doing the next day. With this book and an english train map Japan was at our finger tips! I am actually purchasing the compliments to this book on Tokyo and the street map all made by insight for our return trip in June.

This book has alot of information in it about Texas which is good considering that is the title of the book. If you need a book for those that have never been to Texas and want to know of some places to go and see and want alittle bit of history on the area then this book is what you need. Even those people who are from Texas like myself can benefit from it cause lets face it Texas is a big state and even the people that live in it don't know everything there is to know about the state or where things are located. All around the book was very helpful for not only me but the friend I bought it for. Now she wants to go visit Texas very badly. haha!

The book is full of useful information, suggestions of where to go, and also has detailed maps of downtowns of all the major cities in Texas. Pictures are really beautiful. If you plan to go to Texas, this book is all you need, for preparations, and for the trip itself.
