This is a precious guide for all designers: it covers many fields, from multimedia to web to package design, with a lot of photos. Maybe a bit technical in some points, but very useful. In certain points you may find yourself asking "well, what's so new about that, I knewed it!", but then I ask you: "are you sure? or you just find that this book tells you how the story goes and suggests you all those basic principles you are supposed to know and you didn't notice?"
Moreover, this books covers mainly digital design, but it has sections and ideas useful for ANY designer.
If you're looking for a comprehensive guide, THIS IS IT!

I like this book! Working my way through it. It is well organized and gives you very practical advice on how to ramp up the quality of your images. Even if you only follow a few of the bits of advice and techniques here, you will get your investment in what you paid for the book right back. I buy way too many photography books, but I am do not regret getting this one at all!

Also.. 'Understanding Exposure; Revised edition' that just came out. That is a MUST GET for anyone who wants to get a full handle on exposure and get off AUTO and PROGRAM mode. I hardly ever take my camera off MANUAL mode any more because of 'Understanding Exposure.

Everyday new books on photography are released and it makes me wonder what more can be written that hasn't already been covered. In reality, writing books is just as much an art as photography. Take the same subject, give it a different author, and you have a completely
fresh look.

Getting quality images out of a camera is as much an art as photography itself and a great eye alone is just not enough. With digital photography there are so many variables that can and will affect your final image; lens quality, image sensor (size and quality), camera quality and settings, lighting, photo editing techniques, printer, and paper to name a few. The "Complete Guide to Ultimate Digital Photo Quality" provides detailed information on how to choose the best equipment for you and then how to squeeze out every last bit of quality from your setup.

I have been very fortunate to this point to have received so many great books to review. My high school teachers would be shocked at
how much I love to learn. Somewhere between the ages of 18 and 44 I developed a thirst for knowledge and a passion for photography. Even still, it takes a well-written book to keep me focused (no pun intended) and interested and Derek Doeffinger has done just that.

iMovie2 does not come with an instruction book, and the iMac booklet helps precious little, so I was pleased to find Brad Miser's Idiot Guide (which is a series I like anyway). The book is both imformative and insightful, plus a lot of fun to read. It got me going with iMovie in very short order, and when I emailed Mr. Miser to clarify a point, I got a prompt and effective answer. Highly recommended.

There are few things as satisfying and fun to the videographer as making professional movies - videos that you actually want to watch a second time or more - and Apple's iMovie software is THE tool to do just that. You get superb results from an inexpensive piece of software - IF you can use it. While the program is exceptionally simple, there is only an on screen "Help Menu," and we all know how those work: everything but the question you need answered, it seems. Into the void has rushed Brad Miser with wit and wisdom, and with all the answers and instruction you need and then some. His Idiot's Guide is a marvelous introduction to video/movie making, and he walks you through composition, editing, mixing, enhancing, titling, effects, and stuff you never thought possible when you bought that video camera (or even thought about buying it). Miser is one of those very few authors that are effectively "high tech" and "high touch," he writes with clarity, and with an obvious love of his subject. If Amazon would allow it, I'd give this six stars.

as i feel this book covers the fundamentals needed for
proper understanding of wavelets. then it clearely brings
out the topics such as mra, filter bank approaches along
with matlab programs using which one can actually generate
and feel the wavelet concept. in this way the book creates
interest in the reader. Along with this one can also
use wavelets by gopinath and barrus or by goswami.

This book is well thought out and "clear" in explanations.

First let me say this is an excellent book for a graduate class about Wavelets! As a Doctoral Student I have limited funds, but this book I had to purchase, and did. I've used Wickerhauser, Strang & Nguyen, Cohen, and other texts for my references but yours is well thought out and "clear". The chapter about Over Complete Wavelets and the Matlab GUI makes this a complete guide to wavelets.

I found this to be a well written and insightful book. The text is supported by an abundance of figures and graphics and, more importantly, by the companion software on CD ROM, which is also available online (at no charge!). I would strongly recommend this book to any student/teacher of computer vision and/or image processing.

A great book for beginners in image proc. and comp. vision!

If you want to learn about the algorithms for computer vision and image processing and know algebra, then this book seems ideal. The author's style seems very accessible, and the examples show just enough mathematics to give the book some substance. Moreover, you get free image processing and computer vision software! It would be surprised if there were a better algebra-based introductory book out there.

Literally, I can't put the book down. I was using heavy duty glue earlier to mend my coffee table and I guess I had some left on my hand. I can't put the book down w/out ripping off its back cover, so I decided to read it. It's pretty good! I think I'll actually go back to Conneaut Lake and check it out again some time. Sure, brings back some memories. Now, I'm hungry for cotton candy...

If your prayer life has faded or become stale; if you think "God knows what I want better than I do, why pray?," or you find yourself ending each prayer with "If it is Your will" and feeling nothing is different after your prayer than before; if you've stopped praying altogether: try this book.

Grounded in scripture, simple in structure and style, this is the most helpful book I have found on the subject of prayer.

I was delighted with this book. Having been raised in Cornwall, I was surprized to see how certain parts of the town were so built up years ago! It was more than interesting seeing where some of the street names came from and the families who are still there. This was purchased for my Uncle who has moved from the area and it was just filled with wonderful memories for him. It's a keeper!

A fantastic tool and guide to make the leap from the Military to Civilian "world". Joe's exercises are the core to discovering the Self in a workbook that assists individuals in focusing away from fears, and back to positive, creative life-planning. Excellent for sharing with spouses as well, to allow for families to be launched joyfully into life transition together.

A Road Map back to Civilian Life

Joe Riggio hits a home run with this book. When I was discharged from the Marines 35 years ago I thought returning to civilian life would be a cakewalk. But there were unexpected challenges. The three years I spent in the Corps changed me, for the better, and I didn't know it. I didn't recognize I was leaving a "family" and returning to a tougher environment.

I wish I had Mr. Riggio's book in hand then. It's a well conceived and executed road map for the sometimes difficult transition from the military to civilian life. And, the longer you've been in the service, the greater benefit you'll receive from this book.

Must Reading For Every Pastor
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2003-10-17
Intrater deals with a subject keenly missing in most evangelical churches, the existence of covenant relationships. Sadly, the church has borrowed the contractual model of relationship- what can you do for me- rather than the covenantal model of relationship- what can we do for this relationship. This is most clearly seen in the relationship between the pastor and the church, the integration of new members and the adoption of the business model of polity in the local church. Pastors are not called to lead, but hired to serve. The assumption is that is they provide the goods and services the congregation wants. Failure to do so results in termination, a sad fact reflected in the pastoral turn over rate in some churches that is less than three years. It is also seen in the churches abysmal record in assimilating new members; in many congregations it is clear who is on the inside and who is not. Finally, it is seen in the polity of the local church were elections, votes and committees rule the roost.

The author firmly believes that Jesus is in the business of building a body, not building ministries. Building ministry in itself is not bad, but if it is done at the expense of absence of relationship we have missed the point of the church. The church is always about people first, ministry second.

The American church has, to a great extent, exchanged covenant relationship for feelings based relationship. We stay in relationship as long as we feel good about it. Intrater points our that covenant is not based on relationship but on commitment. We are committed to one another no matter how we feel about it. Thus, when the inevitable disagreements arise, when controversial decisions must be made, when sin occurs and church discipline must be exercised, covenant is the glue that holds the church together. Otherwise, everyone goes on his or her own way, seeking new relationships, new churches where they can feel good.

This book is must reading for every pastor. Establishing covenant relationship within the church lays the foundation for significant growth, both numerical and spiritual. Building covenant relationships allows team building to come to full fruition. Intrater provides a thorough biblical analysis of covenant in a highly readable and useable form. You will enjoy this book.
