I was very very pleased with the product and service received from this company textseasy. Every detail that was written in the description was accurate and I received exactly what I was told I would receive. Perfect condition. As a bonus, I was given the work book which most people have to pay a separate charge for. I even sent an email asking a specific question and a response was sent to me immediately. Great customer service company and I would buy from texteasy again and again. Thank you for your service.

This fitness program is the real deal! Great book!

Review Date: 2008-09-01
"Body For Life" is the most approachable, motivational, and effective fitness program I have encountered. Several of my male friends were getting in extremely buff while following this program, and their wives were getting into great shape, so I had to toss my skepticism aside and give it a try. Sure enough, even after 6 weeks, people were noticing that I looked "physically fit."

The book explains the workout process and the eating process in a clear, informative, and motivating manner, not only explaining how to work out and eat correctly, but WHY it must be done correctly. The book also contains many photographs demonstrating proper workout techniques, as well as lists of "proper" foods, and even some recipes!

Probably the most effective part of the book is the inclusion of dozens of "before-and-after" shots of "Body For Life" success stories, along with several testimonials of those who followed the program. These success stories really make it seem possible that even you(!) can get into awesome shape, really fueling your motivation.

I highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to get into fantastic shape relatively quickly (and who doesn't?). If you're not self-motivated, find a workout partner and follow this program, but by all means take the "Body For Life" challenge and get yourself into great shape!

Bill has shared his secrets of building beautiful, healthy bodies and a lot of the information just isn't available without hiring a personal trainer. The knowledge in this book, and the way he lays it out is very useful especially if you are just starting out into 'fitness world' and have little knowledge or experience. Having dieted my entire life due to a thyroid disease, I can tell you his eating plan, where you take the 7th day off from dieting, might just be the biggest secret to not hitting a plateau. His food suggestions are right in line with some other 'great' diets, so you won't have any issues with adopting this healthy lifestyle. His page 136, with a list of the exercises targeting the entire body is about the best page of the book, but then he goes on to full explain, with photos, the exact way to perform each exercise to its fullest benefit. The only thing better than this book would be to have Bill as your personal trainer!

You can begin to rebuild and rescuplt your body in 12 short weeks.

You may have missed the Body For Life fad the first time around, but the book, tapes, supplements, etc. are still with us.

You may not realize that it takes 30 days to make a new habit, but using Mr. Phillips 12 week program, you can put a firm foundational habit in place to change your life.

It does take work and discipline, but then again so do most things worth working for.

I used Body For Life a few months before my wedding to lose the weight, and managed to drop 23 pounds in the 12 weeks. Since then I have gained it back, but the program does work if you stick to it.

You can save money by eating high protein foods such as Cottage Cheeze, Buffalo or Ostrich meats. You can also buy protein powders such as whey or soy in bulk to avoid buying the recommended supplements.

I give the program four stars because if you travel with work alot or are a road warrior eating in restaurants it can be hard to stick with it.

Recommended.

Cheers!

Good, but one approach of many

I picked up Body for Life (B4L) after reading about the new P90X workout stuff. Some folks suggested following the program in B4L before even trying P90X. So I picked up the book and gave it a read through. I actually skipped a lot of it because a good portion of the book is testimonials and personal stories - stuff you really don't need. The core of the book - the stuff you actually want - is an easy read. Phillips outlines a decent fitness approach. The two key elements, IMO, are good nutrition and putting thought and planning into your workouts. You have to devise a way to monitor your progress and figure out how to increase the intensity through "progressive overload."

Phillips advocates the approach of eating several (in his book specifically six) small meals over the course of the day. Like any approach this is not foolproof. It'll work for some people and won't for others. Since he has his own line of supplements he naturally bases the diet plan around including shakes or bars from those products. This is one part where he's clearly trying to increase his return on the plan, rather than outlining other ideas for healthful snacks. But, you can at least get the idea from the book.

I was disappointed by his general workout plan. It's not that it's not a solid one - he has a good plan for outlining progress and has a fair number of exercises, but he doesn't include bodyweight exercises. He really misses out here because bodyweight exercises are a good way to work multiple muscle groups and increase fat burning. They're also a good way for people who are just starting to develop a fitness routine without investing in a lot of equipment. His exercises are good, but some are the usual fare of kickbacks, curls and such that develop "beach muscles" - that is, muscles that look good but aren't recruited a lot in daily living. For example, working up to chinups is more useful than doing curls for actual fitness versus simple aesthetics.

One pitfall is that he encourages readers to workout first thing in the morning before you eat, or later in the day after a few hours without food. This can really mess with your blood sugar and such and is not advised by most fitness professionals. It may make a difference in the results some experience, but use at your own risk. As always consult a doctor about new fitness programs and especially the idea of working out on an empty stomach.

Overall there isn't a lot in this book that you can't find online with a little research for free. That's not to say it's useless. For many people that don't know where to start in the fitness game this can be a good starting point that consolidates a lot of basic ideas into one place. It should be noted, however, that despite the numerous pictures in the dust jacket the results shown fall under the usual "results not typical" disclaimer. Most people are not going to get a body like that in 12 weeks without serious time investments and strict, strict diet.

I enjoyed "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," John Berendt's 1999 blockbuster about the underside of Savannah's genteel lifestyle. But though I enjoyed the story and the characters, I'm not entirely sure why it took off as it did to top the NYT Bestseller list for 200 weeks.

The story is lots of fun and kept me engaged till the end. The story is narrated by a New York journalist hoping to write a story about Savannah. In the first third of the book, he manages to stumble across just about every Southern type, from dueling renovators of old buildings to drag queens, to good ol' boys, to voodoo priestesses and everyone else in between. The collection of roustabouts and ragamuffins is endearing and mostly harmless. They inhabit a dreamy world of quaint customs, elaborate parties, petty rivalries and jealousies, and grand old Southern houses. Then suddenly, a character is found dead in the elegant study of another. The rest of the book traces the intricacies of the trials related to the death.

I was less impressed than some by Berendt's handling of the trials. He breezed through these, leaving out details in one in order to use them for shock value in another. His use of Chablis, the memorable drag queen, seemed added more as comic effect than anything else. Take her out of the book and the plot would not have suffered an iota -- I am *serious*, child!. One wonders whether the fascination for readers is the novelty that the book purportedly features real Savannah houses and landmarks.

"Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" is a fun read that probably won't hold up as a classic. Enjoy it anyway.

While I enjoyed reading "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," I had a hard time trying to keep track of all of the characters. While the number of characters add to the story, I found myself continually flipping back to pages to try and remember who is who. A great read, but you might want to have a pen and paper handy.

Dr. Phil, although tremendously overweight himself, has a good weight loss plan for us.

Review Date: 2008-09-06
While all the other so-called weight-loss books out there concentrate on the old routine of ..healthy diet...exercise...discipline...blah..blah...blah.., Dr. Phil takes a significantly new approach which I find extremely refreshing and reaffirming. He does not concentrate on the old good-nutrition/physical activity bibble-di-babble. It's mostly about keeping a positive attitude about who you are. This is the only true path to weight loss freedom. As Dr.Phil has shown me, assigning some arbitrary numerical value to what is an acceptable weight for me would be absurd. Although the AMA literature may state that I, and even Dr. Phil himself, may be 60 or 70 pounds overweight, only we can make that determination for ourselves. If we are comfortable with how we look and comfortable in the knowledge that our so-called "excess" weight may lead to heart disorders, diabetes and a shortened life-span, then we have truly achieved Weight-Loss Freedom. Thank you Dr. Phil, for shedding this new light in your folksy, tell-it-like-it-is, no beatin' around the bush, no-holds barred, down-home Texas way on an issue millions of us have been so confused about.

The only suggestion I would make for future printings is that the good, honorable doctor provide an address where we can send him some more money, so that he may run some kind of Dr. Phil Foundation, dedicated to the ideals of self-awareness, weight-loss freedom, tellin-it-like-it-is, tough love and all that. I would be the first contributor.

A visit to a doctor just over two months ago revealed that I was obese, with a high body fat percentage and low muscle mass level. It was made clear to me that unless I reduced my weight from 80 kg (176 lbs) to at least 70 kg (154 lbs), I was at high risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure or stroke. I had to reduce my weight and hence I needed a good book to guide me through the process. "The Ultimate Weight Solution" is among the best book that I got hold of.

The book provides realistic and well researched advise on how to reduce weight. The book teaches how to behave and think about food and the appropriate exercises to lose weight on a lasting basis. The book explains how people often lose control of their weight. Methodically and step-by-step, the book explains how to identify what to eat and when to eat and the right kinds of exercises that help to burn the fat and develop muscle. The book has a number of questions for you to answer and help audit yourself which I found very illuminating and useful. The comprehensive food list in the Appendix is also an excellent bonus that you can use as a quick reference guide

Well, I followed Dr Phil's instructions and now I have got into the habit of eating the right kind of foods in the right quantity consistently, I have an exercising schedule and I consistently engage in habits that avoid harming my body such as not smoking or drinking alcohol.

Thanks to the advice in this book, I am on my way to the optimum weight, and I now experience high level of health, energy, vitality and control over my life.

Not Worth Your Time

The book is simplistic and preachy. More often than not, you're reading three pages about something that can be clearly stated in a paragraph. Equally often, that material seems misplaced (waiting until the sixth month to speculate about gender???) and thrown in there to thicken the book. I believe, with common-sense editing, this book could be less than fifty pages without sacrificing any content. The few things that I did learn I could have learned from several other books, along with a great deal more.

This book was one of the best books we got as expectant first time parents. A lot of the information in here you cannot find in the other books for just women. Half of the pregnancy is all about the father too (which women can sometimes forget in the mess of baby making) and this book can offer a lot of insight for women who are confused about their man's behavior. It offers insights to the way men and women differ in the whole pregnancy process. I highly recommend this book for women who are interested in having their partners involved in the process.

This book is specifically designed for the first time father's without a clue. It discusses everything from the basics of morning sickness to really acknowledging the needs and support a woman requires during pregnancy. It also assist with opening discussions for what's happening and what's to come. We enjoyed it.

Ridiculously focused on the father.

Review Date: 2008-06-23
This is my first and probably only Amazon review, but this book pushed me to it. As an upcoming first time dad, I was looking for books geared toward informing the father. Most books geared towards the soon-to-be dads tend to be humorous in nature, to varying degrees of success. This one was serious and quite informative. However, it suffers from a flawed sense of perspective that I found very distracting. It chronologically presents the journey of pregnancy and how it impacts the expectant father, but almost as if the male is agonizing more than the mom.

A perfect example comes from the chapter covering the 9th month of pregnancy: "Your partner's increased dependency is considered a "normal" part of pregnancy, But thanks to the ridiculous, gender-specific way we socialize people in this country, men are supposed to be independent, strong, supportive, and impervious to emotional needs - especially while their partners are pregnant. So just when you are feeling most vulnerable and least in control, your needs are swept under the rug, And what's worse, the one person you most depend on for sympathy and understanding may be too absorbed in what's going on with herself and the baby to do much for you".

This tone is pervasive throughout the book. If you relate to the above passage, you'll probably greatly enjoy this book. However, I was looking more for information about the experience of pregnancy and the father's role in it - not how to "cope" with the pressures and hassles. I think my wife had enough of those to deal with during these months, while I honestly didn't encounter any of the stresses the authors detail.

To summarize: Straightforward, and informative, but preoccupied with fatherly trials and travails that border on the unintentionally humorous.

This book's verbal section is well organized and will definitely help you in the real GRE's. However, Mr. Barron clearly has no understanding of the GRE Math. The graph questions are simply aweful and do not reflect the real GRE questions whatsoever. Moreover, the grammer on Math questions is extremely sloppy, often leading to obvious confusions about what the questions ask. If you are trying to score perfect on the math like I am, this book will only frustrate you with its consistenly aweful graph questions and grammer ambiguities.

I purchased this book in April in preparation for an early August GRE. The Barron's book was my main source of preparation. I created a study schedule up to the date of the test, based on the material in this book. I did EVERY practice exercise. The book is very thorough. I found all sections to be helpful. My personal weakness was/is Math so I did get the Ultimate Math Refresher the last 2 1/2 weeks before the test. I highly recommend that also. I also purchased the GRE Official Guide so I could get some extra Math practice in. I worked with the GRE Powerprep as well. Still, Barron's was my primary source. The Barron's writing section was very helpful in my opinion, but writing is probably one of my better suits. If it's not yours, you may want to try a supplement to the Barron's book. I DID study all 50 of the vocab. lists in the Barron's book. I'd say that's pretty important. So, how did I do on the exam? I scored 670 in Math, 700 in Verbal, and 5.5 on the writing. Good luck to you!

Not suprisingly, this is a little different than the traditional "how to" books you might otherwise read. However, the ideas in here are creative and many were new for me. Lots of operational and communication related tips, which I found helpful. And, the book is easy to read. Since many airlines cannot find a way to make money AND achieve such high levels of customer service, Southwest (and this book) serve as a good guide to prosperity.

The crazy culture of Southwest Airlines

Review Date: 2007-10-26
Kevin and Jackie Freiberg began studying Southwest Airlines when Kevin was a doctoral student. This lively, funny and, at times, moving book is full of information about the origins of Southwest Airlines, what makes it unique and how it fights hard to keep its family-based culture, despite having more than 33,000 employees. Wonderful stories told by employees, letters from customers and comments from other business leaders demonstrate the principles that the authors discuss. The book is divided into four sections, with the last looking at leadership in general and as practiced at Southwest. This book was originally published in 1996, but every word of it is perfectly applicable today. Southwest Airlines is still making a profit and growing where other airlines are losing money by the planeload. We recommend this entertaining account of how to operate a service-oriented company in a cutthroat industry.

Such a great story, everyone should read it. Especially anyone interested in business.

Review Date: 2007-09-21
Yeah, this is a business book, but it is a lot more of value and is a lot more fun than most of them. Get it, read it, think about it, and enjoy it. The title has multiple meanings. It refers to Southwest's policy of giving its short haul passengers a bag of peanuts instead of meals (they give out tens of millions of bags each year). Those bags of nuts also stand for Southwest's healthy obsession with keeping their costs down so they can keep their fares low. And "Nuts!" also refers to the founders of the company starting a low cost airline in Texas in the age of regulated airlines (do you remember that time) and their radical approach to carrying passengers. Basically, outside of safety and maintenance, whatever the big airlines did, Southwest did it just about the opposite way.

Where the big airlines used the hub and spoke to fly more full flights, Southwest chose point-to-point and a 10-15 minutes turn around time to keep the planes in the air. Where the big airlines encouraged uniforms and professionalism, Southwest went with hotpants and outrageous behavior (now they use khaki shorts, but the personality of the flight attendants is more like a stand up routine). Instead of meals, peanuts. Instead of assigned seats, you pick it on board. Instead of the multi-part printed ticket, you get a paper receipt with the words "THIS IS A TICKET" printed on it. There is a LOT more just like this.

Learning from Herb Kelleher's approach to business and his actually being able to make money in the airline business is fascinating stuff. A great read because Kevin & Jackie Freiberg not only write well, they know how to organize the material to make it especially valuable to us. Just terrific. Strongly recommended to everyone because it is such an interesting story.

But going after things for pure financial gain and ignoring larger needs, turning your back on others... it is sinful. Sure, you can have a healthy self-esteem and positive relationships, but the focus of your life should not consists of entirely YOU and what YOU WANT. We need fewer spiritual brats in this world, demanding gimmegimmegimme of their gods.

It is so short and simple, I call it a Cookbook for life. Get it and read it again and again. But if you are a negative, dogmatic, closed minded person, don't get it. You won't understand it anyway. Otherwise get a copy for you and all your friends and loved ones. Peace and love to you, Wayne Dyer. God bless you!

I have actually been through a long period of spiritual chaos. I have owned this book in the past. I also owned many other books that are of this kind. I thought that this book would be helpful because it was written by a psychologist. This book is actually useless. The best thing to do in times of turmoil is to keep things SIMPLY. That is the best solution. Think in a positive way but not to the extreme end that is advocated in all these self improvement books which are actually self DESTRUCTION books.
For those who question my opinion, I have been severely depressed for over 6 years. I stop being depressed back in 2003. I am currently a psychology major. REAL psychology books are VERY different from these SHAM books.
I hope my review have helped someone. If you have books like this, you should throw them away.

Manifest Your Destiny encourages you to step into your own PLACE OF POWER. It encourages you to do so and lets you know that it is your spiritual right to do so. Furthermore, this book gives you the techniques and information necessary for you to live your life in authentic power. "Never ever a victim " is the consciousness that grows out of reading and applying the information in this book. Truly awesome! Peace and love!

Dyer thinks he's God. I'm tired of his constant criticism about everything and everyone. Now in this book if you want to look young or lose weight you're selfish and a bad person. Then in his lectures he says you can reverse time. He says whatever he wants to make money and I find him a hypocrite. Every principle is that he writes if from some great enlightenment in his life. Why didn't he pay the Catholic Church for stealing St. Francis' prayer. The catholic church is not happy with Wayne Dyer and that's something you can research on the net. He takes what he wants to make money off of innocent people.

Chris had everything to live for except some financial troubles. He became infatuated with this book and died yesterday with it by his side.

A brilliant inventor, Chris prided himself by being self-taught by reading books.

The rest speaks for itself. If you see a friend or loved one with this book, get them help ASAP

Looks like an important addendum is not included in this, as it is in ERGO's

This has a discount, but I've read it's important to get the updated addendum info like the helium kit, which does not look like it's included here.

The ERGO site has the addendum included with the book. You can also get the addendum separately.

This book is geared for the computer test, and states that throughout the text. I'm currently using it to prepare for taking the GRE later this summer. I would not recommend it as your singular source of preparing for the GRE, but it has lots of helpful tips, hints, and strategies, that I feel it is worth the investmant. The author has spent several decades helping students prepare for standardized tests, so has a lot of experience, and insights into what she has seen work, and what doesn't. No book is going to singularly prepare you for the GRE, I would recommend at least three texts, to cover the three main aspects of the GRE, which are quantative, verbal, and analytical writing skills. This book could easily be completed in 2 or 3 weeks, if you spent an hour or two everyday going through the different sections. Plus, she has a great sense of humor, yet tells it like it is.

Good on Math, Bad on Verbal

I think this book does a good job of making you "relearn" math that you may have forgotten. I took several practice tests and got many of the math questions wrong. In high school, I had very good math skills. This book helped me brush up on mathematical concepts that I had forgotten. After reading the math reviews, I was able to get 75% of the math problems right.

I still had trouble with the verbal section, though. I'm not sure why. I was a Spanish major in college, and my professors assumed that I would do well on the verbal section. But I didn't. The math part was much easier for me. I think it's because I use "logic" to understand languages, and logic what math pros use.

This book gives a very thorough review of different topics that appear on the GRE. It also gives a lot of tips and other things to look out for. The math review is excellent. If you need a extensive review for GRE, this is your book.

This preparation guide lives up to its name. Its quite introductory, and for some thats a good thing. But the sample questions included in the explanations were much easier than the real GRE test. I have not looked through more than a couple sections, so this is just an initial review.

One positive is that this book was much less expensive. Its funny, well at least, funny for a GRE book. I also like the way the author sneaks in GRE vocab words(with definition) in her explanations. Good buy for folks looking for something more introductory...
