I would have to admit that when I first purchased this product, I was thinking that I could have created one on my own. But considering the time that I would have spent in doing that, this was well worth the purchase! I was able to put it to good use right away and I have used it quite often (it's laminated, so that's a good thing when it comes to wear and tear). It really comes in as a handy reference, whether you're using on the job or for preparing for the PMP exam. I especially like how it is color-coded to designate the different process groups.

Project Management Knowledge Areas & Processes is simple, easy to use, and packed with information. I refer to this guide each time I start a new project to make sure I've covered all the major areas and processes in my project schedule. I usually refer to it a couple of times later in my project to be sure I didn't miss anything that I didn't include earlier in the project but now need as my project has changed. I still use many of Jami's guides that I got when I was studying for my PMP exam a few years ago (PMBOK version 2) and am glad to see that she has updated at least one of her guides for the current PMBOK (version 3).

This product was very helpful as I studies for my PMP. At a glance you could see the relationship of the process to other areas of knowledge. The ability to see the information organized in that matter put everything into prospective.

I highly recommend this product.

With so many IT jobs being outsourced, I needed a competitive edge to remain marketable. I decided it was time to go for my PMP certification. I have a variety of study materials. However, I needed a guide to get me started in the right direction, without wasting much time. This guide provides a great overview of all the process areas. If you're truly serious about PMP Certification, then this guide will give you exactly what you need to get started. I highly recommend it.

Elephants, Hello, Please, Thank You:18 month old's favorite
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-12-26
I think my 18 month old started out loving this book so much because it has elephants in it. We love to make the elephant sign and the noise "bfffuuuuttt".

Some times I change the words I read. For example, instead of reading "he never pushes or shoves", I say out-loud "the elephant waits by standing still" to eliminate some of the gender and the sometimes "dont dont dont" wordings. Partly because at 18 months old "never push or shove" sounds a lot like "push and shove". :) Older children will probably be able to understand words like dont and never.

But my 18 month old doesn't care about those things. And we love signing "hello friends", "please", and "thank you".

I agree that it is never too early to teach social manners!

Just dont feel like you have to read it word for word; change a couple here and there!

We also love spying the bears, rabits, mice, fox, lady bugs and hats!

Excellent first introduction to good manners for toddlers

Scarry has it right from the start of this endearing book: "Everyone likes the polite elephant."

What makes this book a must-have for toddlers: classic illustrations that children have been falling in love with for decades, a lovable, memorable main character, and polite social behavior taught through everyday situations that will be meaningful to toddlers.

Parents who grew up with Richard Scarry's books will like seeing familiar Busytown characters. As always, the illustrations are cheerful and charming, and there are only a few words on each page (which stretches the age range from just-old-enough-to-look-without-eating through the pre-reading years).

The book uses situations that are familiar to toddlers to introduce polite behavior, including greetings, waiting in line, being a good guest, saying "please" and "thank you," washing up before meals, sharing toys, and more.

An excellent addition to your own board book collection, or a great gift for a new parent or parent of a toddler.

Cute Richard Scarry pictures are always fun for children, and this book combines the fun of Scarry's cartoon animals and vehicles with many tips on good manners in several different situations. Needed by many of today's children.

Our 18-month-old can not hear this being read enough. We must read it 5 times a day or more, maybe much more, with him asking/signing 'more' again. The illustrations, as can be expected, are excellent. Best of all, from a parents point of view, is that it teaches the importance of manners.

Given the lack of manners that I often see on playgrounds (by parents!) I think that it is imperative that good manners be drilled (there is the 'd' word) into children when quite young. Good social graces are usually a surer factor of success in life than extra points on an IQ test. There is a plethora of books out about raising bright kids, but markedly fewer about raising polite kids.

I picked this title up in a supermarket on a whim, and found it a favorite with our little guy, who already likes to say "please and "thank you" as well as "How do you do?". Buy it.

"Presentation" is Gary's best book to date

"Presentation" is the single best book in my fly fishing library. In this book Gary defines his concept of presentation in fly fishing, which consists not only the delivery of the fly but everything that goes into the process of fly fishing. Gary is an experienced and gifted teacher and writer. He uses his experience as a professor of Botany at the University of Wisconsin to simplify the difficult sport of fly fishing so that the reader can actually use this information on the river to improve his own skills.

Gary earlier book "Nymphing" was selected by the editors of Fly Fisherman Magazine as one of the 20 most important fly fishing books of the 20th century but that was before "Presentation" was published. "Presentation" eclipses his previous works and the fact that used copies command a premium speaks to the importance of this book to the sport of fly fishing. I have purchased other fly fishing books that are only partially read, but "Presentation" is a book that should be reread before the start of every new fly fishing season. It is just that good.

Gary Borger's Presentation is a comprehensive, knowledgeable, lucid text for fly fishing. Presentation describes the technique of displaying the fly to the fish in its natural environment so that it looks like its normal food. This book covers casting, fly selection, river strategies, equipment, entomology, and much more. The illustrations are also very good. I learned a lot from reading this book, so I read it again. Highly recommended.

"Presentation" by Gary Borger with illustrations by his son, Gary is without a doubt one of, if not the best instructional book on flyfishing currently available. Sections on the fish as prey, the fish as predator, what the trout sees, locating trout, tactics, hatches, equipment, casting- it's all there in an easy to read and enjoyable format. Gary provides "Presentation Strategems" throughout the book that taken alone are worth the price. The photos, anecdotes, and a lot of straight "how to's" make this book a winner- every time I loan my copy out, it's months before I get it back!

A straightforward book, readable, yet in depth, with enough side bar humor and anecdotal material to be entertaining, yet content that will keep you busy for years. I was pointed in the direction of this book by someone with much experience, and would reccomend it for any level. It covers all aspects of presentation, from the selection of the rod to the landing of the fish. Presentation here refers to the entire p[rocess, not just the landing of the fly. Very important book.

This book was bought for me when I was expecting my second child. This child was autistic. This is the book that helped my son enjoy reading and looking at the pictures. Because my son can't actually read yet he knows the story by heart as well as our actions, especially the ending. I just wish Cindy Skezeres would realize the impact that she's had on my son.

I recommended this book already, but now my faith has been reaffirmed! My daughter (just six months old now) and I got a copy via Amazon.com for Christmas. Laura doesn't talk yet, of course, but we read books all the time, anyway. I think her favorite (and mine) is Puppy Too Small. There's enough rhythm in the language to keep her happy, and the illustrations are bright and clever enough to bring a smile both to her face and mine.

I gave this book to a friend of mine's kids, and they never got tired of hearing about 'puppy to small'. I wish I had gotten a copy of my own, and hope the author/publisher will reprint some of her older titles, because they are terrific. My friend is holding on to the books for her grandkids, and buys new ones of this author as she finds them. I found them fun to read to kids, and buy several of Cyndy's books to keep on hand as gifts. The moving on recently helped a two-year old with the trauma of moving houses. The author just hits home for kids, with a little fun thrown in!

This is a good book.

I just got this book for my 2.75 year old son who loves puzzles. I was very pleased to find that, not only did he love to work the puzzles, he was also fascinated with the paintings themselves. He's too young to address the questions that the text poses about each painting, but has spent a good deal of time simply studying each on his own. I highly recommend this book!

Review Date: 2006-03-05
This book on Puzzles was first published in 1986 and later published in paperback. I borrowed it from my Library a couple of times and recently obtained my own copy. If you have any interest in puzzles, you'll immediately agree that this book is outstanding in every way. The authors are two of the biggest names when it comes to writing about mechanical puzzles of today and of the past. Jerry Slocum has collected puzzles all his life, has over 30,000, and has probably the finest collection in the world. He is President of the Slocum Puzzle Foundation,in Beverly Hills,California.
This book is an overview of just about everything there is about puzzles. There are all kinds of puzzles such as Crossword,Word Search and many types more commonly called Pencil Puzzles;but that is not what this book is all about. It is somewhat difficult to define Mechanical Puzzles;but if you think of the types of puzzles that you can pick up in your hand,it helps to see the types of puzzles covered in the book.
The authors cover puzzles everyone is familiar with such as Rubik's Cube,Sliding Blocks,Tangrams,Wire,String & Rings,Mazes,Puzzle Locks,Puzzle Boxes,Take-Apart Puzzles, and on and on. I think you get the picture.
The authors cover the history of the puzzles and give hundreds of pictures of them from their collections as well as from collections of other great collectors. The book has many pictures of the creators of puzzles and it is a real treat to put a face to the names which are so well known in the puzzle world.
The book is a pure delight to read and to look at the fascinating array of puzzles;but it doesn't end there. There is all kinds of information on how to go about solving many of the puzzles;and on top of that lots of instructions oh how you can make many of the puzzles. No doubt, the reader could build quite a collection of puzzles, just from the information in the book.
I also find this book to be a real help in finding and identifying puzzles. People don't throw away these puzzles;but they often end up in Flea and Antique Markets,Second Hand Shops,Garage Sales and so forth. This book shows you what to look for and find. Let me give you an example. A while back,I saw one of the Japanese building towers shown on page 65,sitting on a shelf amongst a bunch of bric-a brac, didn't recognize it as a puzzle ,and passed it by. When I saw it in this book,I immediately knew what I had missed. Oh well, live and learn. The point is,if you hope to find puzzles, you got to know what to look for;and this book shows you. Another good example. The Bombay stores carries puzzles at times and recently had 4 very well constructed puzzles.I bought one called "The Comet" which is quite similar to the "Papa-Chuck" puzzle on page 74 and consists of 51 interlocking pieces.
So,if solving, collecting, making or anyting else about puzzles interests you, this book will become a prized possession. It would take many lifetimes for one person to find and enjoy what the authors have assembled in to this excellent book and made it available with extremely high ,color, paper, illustrations ,printing and construction quality;and at the same time a very reasonable cost. While you're at it,why not check out Jerry Slocum's Page on the Web,to see what's going on in the world of puzzles.

I bought the book originally to learn how to make some of the puzzles. The fact that there are dozens of puzzles to make immediately differentiates the book from others. There is an enormous wealth of information about puzzles of all kinds. The authors have notes about puzzle inventors, tips on making puzzles, and, in a few cases, tips on how to solve the puzzles. Really a nice book for anyone with an interest in puzzles.

It's no puzzle this is a great book!

This book is full of many types of mechanical puzzles many dating from the early 19th century. 150 pages of pictures and discriptions of how to make and solve many of these puzzles along with history and biographies on many of the puzzles and makers. The authors have included concise instructions on how to make many of these puzzles from wood with common handtools and a basic knowledge of how to read net drawings. A great read for any age.

Whether you love puzzles or they just frustrate you beyond belief, you's sure to find this book intriguing and absorbing. Filled with 150+ pages of pictures, diagrams, text, and solutions, this book is the most comprehensive treatment of puzzles of all natures that I've ever seen. Puzzles addressed include: 3D Wood block puzzles, Drinking Vessles, Imposible Objects, Folding Puzzles, Disentanglement Puzzles, and more...

Of course not all puzzles are solved by the book...the authors have to leave you something!

If you're handy in the machine shop you'll enjoy the diagrams of wooden blocks and other items that you can make. I've made a few with great results.

My son loves this book. He got it when he was 14 months and liked the illustrations but was too young for it. At 22 months he now knows all of the animals in it which has been a great learning tool for him. It even includes animals not normally addressed in the typical kids animal books (snail, camel, whale). The captions with each flap are tough for a kid under 2 to pay attention to but if you just read it by opening each flap and saying "who am I?" its wonderful. I'd highly recommend it - great gift.

This book is different. It is long and tall with sturdy flaps that open. Each flap shows a part of something and your child can guess what the big object is. This is a tough concept for a young child. It is like doing a puzzle... You will experience your child's delight when he or she correctly figures out what is beneath the flaps. This is definately an "interactive" book. This book makes an excellent birthday or holiday gift for a 2 year old. Highly recommended.

Rajac, beautifully written by Stanley Spain, is a timeless tale with wisdom for all ages. Before turning the first page, I was already engulfed in the story of the young fin whale, Rajac, and his coming-of-age. The dilemas, conflicts and inspirations of the magnificent creature create not only a unique and brilliant plot, but a thought-provoking journey for the reader. Rajac's discovery of his own strength as he forges North for the first time alone, and his subsequent determination to seek the subject of his father's final words, is colorfully developed with the help of a delightful group of intriguing characters. Ms. Spain has skillfully intertwined a fantastic study of whale behavior, anatomy and instinct with emotion and humor. I laughed, I cried and, several times, pondered the meaning of life. Rajac's tale will touch the young and old alike, leaving all who read it with a new appreciation for our fellow mammal friends.

Stanley Spain has written a coming-of-age novel from the point of view of a magnificent beast -- in this case, a young fin whale named Rajac. Having lost his family to whalers, Rajac must reconnect with whale society, find the mysterious whale Yatroo of whom his dying father spoke, and help his race find a new way to live in a world overrun by killer men. Spain's knowledge of whale biology and behavior lends the novel plausibility, while her fluent writing evokes the haunting beauty of the ocean depths. This is an excellent book for family reading. It's interesting for teenagers on up to senior citizens.

How wonderful that it is once again available to those who enjoy animal stories that encompass human qualities. It is the story of a young fin whale who travels far away from all that is familiar to him as he seeks answers for, and meaning to, various events in his life. Anyone who found "Watership Down" and "The Story of Nimh" a good read will love this book. Very small children will delight in this book more when they are a little older.

I read this book more than 15 years ago and I still use the strategies today. In fact, now that my own teen is dealing with depression issues, I've taught him to use the strategies as well. I read the book after about 2 years of psychotherapy. While the therapy was VERY helpful, this book gave me very concrete skills and within a month, I no longer felt the need to continue therapy. If you faithfully complete the exercises, you can learn great techniques that make a difference.

Among the hundreds of serious and not-so pop psych books I've read, "Rapid Relief" actually works. Particularly useful is the "emotional scale" which can help you understand what you or others are going through as you go through your ups and downs.

However "Rapid" is NOT a substitute for deep work with an qualified, experienced and insightful therapist. Instead it's an execellent source of day to day coping stratgies. For eight bucks, that's quite a deal.

This is a perfect book to read to a child. We start our nighttime reading with this one, like an introduction. Then we read other books, then finish with Goodnight Moon. Read to Me deserves to be a classic like Goodnight Moon. It is so gentle and positive, and I love the pictures of children and babies with loving family members. I say to my six-month-old: Do you see the baby reading with his Grandad? And he pats the page and coos. This book sets such a good example -- I hope more illustrators will realize that loving families have varied appearances and cultures. Although I am a blue-eyed girl myself, it really bothers me to see children's books in which only caucasian children are represented. Read to Me celebrates and encourages family reading time. It is like a little reminder each time we read it that we are doing something special.

A jewel of a book!

This is one of the most perfect children's book I have ever seen and I have been collecting for 27 years. (day care provider)It is beautifully illustrated with rich diversity. The words are poetic and should be read by every new parent grandparent and caregiver.
I think this book should be included in every hospital kit distributed to new parents and use by every literacy program. It should definitely be in your family library.

A warm and lyrical treasure with a positive message

Read To Me is a thoroughly delightful picture book with simple, rhyming verse by Judi Moreillon and enchanting color illustrations by Kyra Teis about the joy shared between parents, grandparents, and young ones when reading to a child. A warm and lyrical treasure with a positive message for all ages. "Read to me / and plant the seed. / Make me want / to learn to read."

Just Lovely

This small book is perfect! The illustrations are colorful without being garish, the poem is gentle and beautiful! This book will be enjoyed by many little ones in my family for years to come. I just love it!
