We love the toadlets tooReview Date: 2006-12-16
It's hard to describe his reaction to this story, but when we read it, I can feel his entire body relax. (And yes, he likes the goo, glup sounds of the toadlets the best.) I read with different voices for the tiny animals, and a sing-song voice for the Wise Grandma Owl.
It's important to mention, too, that I like the simplicity, repetition, and calming tone of this book. And I love to read it to my son. Which is important when purchasing children's books...you'll be reading them a thousand times!
Gets you from the very start!!Review Date: 2000-11-13
As a parent and teacher, is a great book for getting a younger child to follow a pattern. On each page "deep down in the woods at sleepytime" is used to start and then the pictures allow for further hints to the words that follow.
This is a page turner for my daughter and I love the rhythm that is created by the words. The language is soothing and gets my daughter ready for bed in an instant. This will be a book that we will definitely add to her library in the near future!

The best adventure book for AD&D ever!Review Date: 1998-06-10
The One and OnlyReview Date: 2002-03-27
Margaret Weis writes: "DL Adventures expressed the DL team's vision of the world, a vision we want to try to recreate with our work at Sovereign Press. I will state here, without apology, that DL Adventures will be taken as the foundation for all things Dragonlance with certain exceptions where applicable (such as the flawed time line)."
DLA provides an overview of the world of Krynn and its history, with a focus on how to run an AD&D campaign in Ansalon set after the War of the Lance. These are some of the main sections in DLA:
"Lot in Life" -- Classes specific to Dragonlance: Knights of Solamnia, Tinkers, Wizards of High Sorcery, and Holy Orders of the Stars (includes information on the 21 gods);
"The Races of Krynn" -- Information on the Krynn-specific PC races and subraces: Kender, Gnomes, Elves, Dwarves (and Gully Dwarves), Irda, and Minotaurs.
"Creatures of Krynn" -- Monsters unique to Dragonlance, including Draconians and Krynn Dragons.
"The World that Was" -- Information on Krynn Pre-Cataclius, including a Map of Ansalon, a timeline, NPCs, and ancient magical items: Dragonlance, Device of Time Journeying, Staff of Magius, Hammer of Kharas, Bloodstone of Fistandantilus, Orb of Dragonkind, etc.
"War of the Lance" -- Information on Krynn Alt-Cataclius, including a Map of Ansalon, a timeline, political conditions, climate, NPCs and PCs of the Legends Trilogy (post-War of the Lance).

Just thought you should know about the battery thing. Still a really cool book though.

The Best Historical compilation for the coastal area!Review Date: 2006-09-16
Although to the passerby McIntosh County seems like a small rural coastal county in southern georgia, with not much to see yet (but about to develop) IT IS NOT -- McIntosh County may be one of the most historical counties in the entire south, "There's been a lot of water under that bridge." And this book will reveal all of it to a good detail!

Edited for little kids but with the same character as the originalReview Date: 2007-06-18
And yet, I didn't want to break down and go the route of the Disney-fied Pooh books, with their cartoonish illustrations and watered-down plots and characters.
That's why I was so pleased to find the Easy-to-Read series. There are six easy-to-read titles from two publishers. They are:
Winnie-the-Pooh and Some Bees
Pooh Goes Visiting
Eeyore Has a Birthday
Tigger Comes to the Forest
Christopher Robin Leads an Expedition
Pooh Invents a New Game
Each book is based on one chapter from the complete works. These little books are divided into four chapters, although it should be no problem to read one from start to finish in one sitting.
The print is large and well spaced, and there are ample illustrations (the original drawings by E.H. Shepard) on every page spread to keep little eyes engaged in the story. Most important, the editor has removed most of the passages that aren't so kid friendly and has simplified the stories without giving them a Disney style candy coating. One could read the original story and then the easy-to-read version and get the same basic plot; when going from the Milne works to the Disney versions, the same is certainly not true.
I didn't give these books five stars because the editor retained some language and dialogue that may be a bit confusing for children in the intended age range. Nevertheless, these books are a wonderful introduction to a classic cast of characters for the preschool set.

perfect small-scale Pooh for young readersReview Date: 2001-01-16

The Ultimate EssentialReview Date: 2008-08-15
The most important value of this book lies in Church's selection process. He has specifically chosen a topical approach in order to more fully represent Tillich's thoughts on that topic. Tillich had the ability to tailor his speech to his audience, so in this book, Church has selected a technical writing (usually from Tillich's three volume "Systematic Theology," a sermon, and usually another selection from a book or journal article he had written on that topic. This is a most helpful layout. Tillich has never been accused of writing simply, and the ability to explore his thoughts from a sermon and a systematic layout help the reader to understand his sometimes complicated thoughts. As an example, compare these two passages from the section on The Courage to Be. "Courage is the self-affirmation of being in spite of the fact of non-being. It is the act of the individual self in taking the anxiety of nonbeing upon itself by affirming itself either as part of an embracing whole or in its individual selfhood" (168). "Simply accept the fact that you are accepted. If that happens to us we experience grace" (201). The second quote is from one his sermons and gets to the point much more clearly than the previous quote, but the value in the more technical writing is that the reader gets a much more fully developed picture of what Tillich meant and how he got to that point.
The value of Paul Tillich's theology can hardly be understated. It has affected more than will admit to it. He believed that theology's task was to engage culture and answer the questions it asks. This book clearly and logically presents Tillich's writings as a commentary on themselves. This is a valuable introduction to the one known as the "ambassador to intellectuals."
A worthy collection of TillichReview Date: 2005-10-19
Tillich is sometimes mistaken for being an atheist, since he makes the radical claim that God does not exist -- however, this shows the redefinitions and subtle aspects at work in Tillich's writing. Only finite things can be spoken of as 'existing'; God, not being finite, does not 'exist' in the way that any created thing exists. God becomes for Tillich the Ground of Being, that from which all existing things come and in which all in existence have their being.
Tillich was profoundly influenced by his experiences in the first world war, where he served as a chaplain in the trench warfare. Unlike theologians such as Barth, he initially had a young man's bravado and support for the war, until the grim realities set in. This experience would never leave Tillich, and he continued to strive all his life to craft a systematic theology that would on the one hand address the concerns of culture but at the same time resist traditional pitfalls of theology-of-culture that make it less universal, and too much a human construct.
Tillich's development of Christology, with Christ as the New Being, is very significant, the way for Tillich's more general philosophical theology to find a grounding in Christianity. Tillich had a long fascination with other religions, Buddhism in particular, and was charged by some critics of relegating Christianity to a secondary status. Like many of Tillich's theological ideas, there is a tension apparent in his Christological development that exists between different traditional methods of dealing with the issue historically, philosophically and theologically.
The selections here come from many of Tillich's works - 'The New Being', 'The Courage To Be', 'Dynamics of Faith', 'History of Religions', and 'Systematic Theology', among others. All of the fundamental concepts of Tillich - the ground of being, the ultimate concern, the idea of history of religions as a primary source of theology, etc. - are here in Tillich's own words, with careful arrangement and a bit of commentary by F. Forrester Church.
This is a good, one-volume introduction to Tillich for those who wish to seek deeper insights into one of the major theologians of our times. This is useful for individual study, for group and bible study groups, for beginning theology classes, and for those ministers and other seminary graduates who would like a one-volume text with which to refamiliarise themselves.

I love this book!!Review Date: 2008-03-07
This book has a place on the front cover where you can insert your own childs picture (over the woman holding the baby). The illustrations portray people of various nationalities/color which is fitting for the culturally diverse world in which we live. And lastly has a beautiful index in the back with all of the words used in the book and a description of each. It also has the American Manual Alphabet.
I have also purchased one as a gift for a friend who just had a baby, and she loved it.
I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a fun sign lanugage book in story book format.

I have read this book to toddlers, preschoolers and an eight year old and they all found it interesting and entertaining. As parent and child learns to sign together they share a special bond that they developed while reading the book.
I highly recommend this book for parents of not just newborns but all preschool and early school age children.

My mom got this book for me for a school report and it is easy for me to read and understand. I like her to read it before I go to sleep at night. I would tell my friends about this book because it is a good book and it is about animals. I really like the end when the grandma owl comes out to tell a short story about the animals and then she says "sweet dreams".
as a closing this was an interesting and fun book to read and I even purchased 5 other books similar to this one for my girls i know they will enjoy, thank you...
