We bought this book for our slightly-more-than-2-year-old twin grandsons, and they loved it. At this age, they're more interested in identifying the pictures than following the concept, but that's ok. They seemed more interested in the water picture than getting the difference between wet and dry, or jump up and jump down. But there's something about the monkey image that is endlessly fascinating to them. Go for it!

My 16-month-old daughter has loved this book since she was around 8 months old. I'm not sure what appeals to her, but I think it must be the clarity and charm of the illustrations, the easy to understand concepts of "up", "down", etc. and the sweetly naughty behavior of George. Who knows -- it works!

Tag along with George as he explores opposite ideas in this charming little board book. "Curious George's Opposites", demonstrates contrary concepts "George climbs UP, and then jumps DOWN," in an amusing and pleasing fashion. The colorful images and simple text will capture babies attention while entertaining small children too. Birth and up.

Adorable Valentine Book

One day, it begins to rain hearts, and young Cornelia Augusta begins to catch them. She realizes that these hearts would be great for making valentines. We watch her think of many different kinds of valentines, and think about who each one would be perfect for. What I love about this little book is the thoughtfulness Cornelia Augusta demonstrates, customizing each gift to please a particular friend (and the friends all turn out to be members of the animal world!). My young daughter enjoyed figuring out who each valentine was for and why. Very cute!

My mother bought this for Valentine's Day this year for my, then 2.5 year old, boy-girl twins and my kids love this book. It is May and we still read this book at least once a week.

The fact that little Cornelia looks at each heart and creates a special valentine card that matches the heart and the recipent shows thoughtfulness. I also liked that even though it never rained hearts again Cornelia wasn't disappointed or sad, but knew what to each Valentine's Day after that.

Our book also came with a page of stickers based on the illustrations in the book.

My six year old took the board book version of this book out of my hands. I meant to read it to my two year old son. Instead,
my first grader was enthralled with the illustrations, the story and the name of the loveable protagonist "Cornelia Augusta".

I especially enjoyed how ALL the rainbow hearts Cornelia Augusta catches are ALL different so she can craft personalized, different Valentine's for each recipient of one of her precious gifts.

The story is also a very opening one: there are always ways to create... no matter what the medium, what the celebration, whether the people are together or apart.

Also, I think the 3-5 year recommendation is a bit young. My 6 year old really enjoyed it as well, the language was perfect for a first grader.

It rains an abundance of hearts one day and
Cornielia Augusta catches them and brings them home and figures out who she wants to make things for.

She makes a necklace by stringing them together, then cuts holes in one and as the story goes on, the children try to guess who she made the valentins for.

It is simple and cute and give the children ideas about doing nice things for their friends.

This is a good set. My kids (under 5) already loved the Very Hungry Catepillar and now they won't stop having us read the other two. Each one is unique. The Catepillar book shows everything a caterpillar has eaten, the Spider book lets you feel the fuzzy spider webs, and the firefly book lights up at night. Great fun.

I purchased this book for my daughter when she was about 9 months old, and she was enraptured by it from our first read. In fact, we read it so much that I memorized the entire book, word for word, and I would recite it to her while holding her in my arms when she woke up at night. Something about the cadence of the words is very soothing. The illustrations of the babies are adorable and engaging to small children, and I believe this book really helped give my daughter the vocabulary she needed to talk about her body. Now, almost three years later, the book is upstairs in her little brother's room, but she still pulls it out and wants me to read it to her. A must have.

After checking out this book at our library three times, I decided to finally buy this book for my one year old. We read the book daily, and she now mimics the children in the book. As we come to the appropriate page, she plays peek-a-boo, claps, holds up one finger to count along, and blows kisses to the children in the book. It's rare to find a children's book so well written.

A very powerful book that I hope hooks youngsters on caring for the Earth at a very young age.

THE FAMILY OF EARTH has beautiful pictures of animals. My baby loves to read it and to look at the pictures of lions, zebras, giraffes, elephants, dolphins, leopards and chimpanzees.

The text is simple and poetic, but may be a bit lengthy for the board book audience. With my little one (16 months old), I find that I need to shorten the text on a couple of pages. (The way the text is written makes this easy to do. I just stop after the first sentence in a spot or two where it runs long for his taste.)

THE FAMILY OF EARTH has a political bent, and will likely be picked up by people with some liking for environmental messages. I would think this would be a safe gift book, though. The core message is that, "We all share the same earth." A fairly right-wing person I know read it and thought it "a bit odd," but was not offended.

My baby loves THE FAMILY OF EARTH. He is clearly interested in learning names of exotic animals and in looking at Schimmel's gorgeous pictures. THE FAMILY OF EARTH is one that he picks up and wnats me to read to him over and over.

This makes a wonderful gift for any grade K-4 teacher, or as a school library donation in honor of your child's birthday. It has a powerful message that can reach the hearts of young and old, that we (and all living things) have more in common than most of us realize. Schim Schimmel does this in a very gentle and non-preachy way that appeals to all.

This book is very good because I get to point, clap and meow a lot. My grandma always laughs and acts surprised when I find the kitten, but I don't know why, because it really wasn't so very hard after the first time. Since there aren't any words, we get to talk about the cute pictures. I call the cat Edgar because that is my cat's name. We had so much fun Grandma bought me four more books in the series. I like them, but this one still is the one I like the best.

At 15 months our little one started looking for kitty on every page and continues to choose the book at every opportunity. Now, three months later he is Talking obout just where the kitty is. This little book is terrific because it allows interaction at several levels of baby development. What a bargain. I am going to get at least three more in the series. (I will need to order them because they are very hard to find in stores.) They are not available in the library anymore because they have all been lost or loved to pieces.

Outstanding and Mesmerizing Debut Novel

Setting - England and Ireland 1827 --- Devan, Marquess of Castlereagh, had fallen in love with the very beautiful Katherine from the moment he saw her, a mutual attraction, some would say that was pre-ordained. Moments before they were to run away and elope to Gretna Greene a great fire erupted that trapped Katherine, and no amount of heroic effort on the part of Devan could save her. Totally devastated, suffering the nightmares of Katherine's screams to save her, Devan left London for the tranquility of his Irish estate, Dahlingham. Days after his arrival he gazed out to the gardens and spied the mysterious new maid his housekeeper and her daughter had found unconscious on the grounds days before. The young woman had no memory of who she was, or where she had come from, and had been nursed back to health by his housekeeper and her daughter Collette who would name her Raven. When Devan finally sent for her, he saw the very image of the woman he had loved and lost, his beloved Katherine. Soon, she was installed in the upper floors, and treated as his guest while he tried to discover who she was. A mystery as her speech switched back and forth from an Irish peasant brogue, to a `lady' with precise and correct English speech.

Almost immediately, Devan's nightmares of Katherine stopped only to be replaced by dreams of Raven who invaded his consciousness both night and day. Raven had nightmares and dreams as well, of a time, people, and places from long, long ago, until soon the face of her dream lover became the face of Devan. Terrified that she was losing her mind, as well as her heart, Raven did her best to distance herself from Devan by using the friendship of his friend Victor, Duke of Brookshire. Was it reincarnation, a foul trick, or was it madness? History would almost repeat itself, if not for the interference of Devan's wonderful friend Victor, who would save the day for Raven and Devan and give them the chance to right a wrong that had torn the two apart 200 years before. But wait, the story does not end there, as another more surprising twist will stun the readers in this amazing sensual tale of reincarnation and second chance at love.

In this, her debut novel, the author admits being inspired by the tragic folk ballad of Barbara Allen and Sweet William. She has crafted an amazingly intense and totally sensual tale, so complex and riveting that it will simply take your breath away with emotions her vivid words evoke in the readers mind. Filled with memorable visual imagery, and stimulating dialogs you will find your emotions engaged with scenes of passion, love and betrayals. This is an outstanding, debut novel by a very talented writer that should not to be missed, and should have fans of historical and supernatural genres immediately looking to find a copy that they'll want on their `keeper shelves'. --- Marilyn Rondeau, Official Reviewer for www.historicromancewriters.com ---

I admit I looked forward to this book's release after reading a couple teaser chapters online. I love books with Ireland settings because it's one of my favorite places to visit and read about. I also admit I wished it had been paperback, because then I wouldn't have had to wait until after the holidays were over to order it! But now I'm glad I got it in hard cover because I know I'll be reading it again. It's a classic.

The story starts with the Marquess of Castlereagh returning to his home in Ireland after the death of his fiance in London. Shortly after his return, he meets a woman that's been taken in as a member of his staff, and to his shock, she looks exactly like the woman who died. He calls her to his library, hoping he's been granted a miracle, but he soon realizes this woman, Raven, is just a common Irish girl, who's suffered a tragedy so awful that she can't remember her past before the day she came to his estate.

After meeting Raven, Devan (the marquess) is freed from the dreams of the fire that took his fiance that he's had ever since the night in England when she died, only to begin having strange dreams of Raven, who calls out to him for help in these dreams.

Devan soon realizes that the only way to put an end to the disturbing dreams is to solve the mystery of Raven's past.

It's just beautiful how the author lays out the clues throughout the story and then ties up every loose end, and through it all Devan and Raven discover a precious love.

I loved this story! I could feel every heartache and victory these characters experienced. Devan and Raven are wonderful characters, but I also fell in love with the whole cast of characters, which I don't normally do. This book made me feel just about every emotion imaginable. There's passion and humor and drama. It's just a beautiful story all around.

Not only is it written very well, but the story is so original that I consider it the best historical romance I've read in a long time, and I read a lot of them. I think other readers who love historicals set in Ireland and England will love it too.

I was surprised a debut book captured me as completely as this one did. If you love historical romance, especially those set in the Regency, then you won't want to miss this book. Lovely writing, steamy love scenes, and a story that will haunt you long after you've finished reading. Readers of the historical romance genre will appreciate this book's original plot. This book had its funnier moments and also its more dramatic moments. One pivitol scene in particular, where the hero finally learns the truth of the heroine's past, made me actually weep. There were a couple scenes that I thought could have been a little bit longer and more fleshed out, but even so it didn't detract from my overall enjoyment. Excellent book and a must for readers who love historical romance.

Set in the year 1827. Devan, Marquess of Castlereagh, lost his beloved Katherine in a great fire the night of the ball at Dakshire. They were to elope that very night. Devan leaves London for his home in Ireland to drown his grief in the bottles. Shortly after settling in at home, he looks out this library window to spy a servant tending the roses. When he sees her face, he is startled. She is the exact image of his Katherine.

Raven has no memory before being found on the lawn of Dahlingham near death. The housekeeper, Mrs. Captain, probably would have turned her out as a crazy person, but Collette, her daughter, begged to be allowed to nurse the girl back to health. By the time Lord Castlereagh returns home from London, Collette has named her Raven, nursed her to health, and Raven has a position tending to the laundry and the garden.

Since Katherine's death, confusing nightmares tortured Devan. He knows that Raven and his is connected. He decides that by bettering Raven's life and helping her learn to be a lady, he would ease his nightmares of failing to save his love from the flames. Raven, somehow, held the key to it all.

Unknown to Raven or Devan, Raven walks in her sleep every night. Raven plays out the dreams of being a lady from two hundred years ago named Mairéad. Devan follows Raven's nightly treks, not realizing she is not awake or in some sort of trance. When questioned about the outings at a later date, Raven insists HE dreamed it all. He is left to wonder why she is lying.

Through it all, Devan's friend, Victor, Duke of Brookshire, visits almost daily. He adores Raven and even courts her. As Victor comes to understand that love has bloomed between Devan and Raven, he decides to give them a helping hand. After all, someone has to known some sense into the pair.

Mr Funny is the 18th book in the Mr Men series, first published in 1976. This was a colorful favorite of mine when I was little. It features Mr Funny's unusual life, and a silly trip to the zoo, which is all nicely illustrated and fascinating to follow. Worth a look.

Even the worms laugh at Mr. Funny's shoe car!

This is one of the top 10 of the twenty or so Mr. Men books we've bought for our son. I grew up with Mr. Men when I was a kid growing up in the UK. Now I can read them to my son.

Mr. Funny goes on a road trip (in this shoe car) and tries to go to the zoo. However the zoo is closed because the animals are sad because they are ill. Mr. Funny to the rescue! He makes a series of ever funnier funny faces making the lion laugh is mane off, the elephant is trunk off and the funniest face made anywhere, ever; make the leopard laugh his spots off! His job done he returns home to a glass of toast and daisy sandwich!

A top 10 Mr. Men book!

Delightful

How can anyone *not* love these books? "Mr. Funny" is especially dear. In a few, short pages this character spreads the news that laughter cures all. Who needs to sit through 2 hours of "Patch Adams" when you can read this little book in under five minutes?

Having 42 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren and being an advocate for reading, reading, reading I believe this book is the greatest for children to hear as first words from parents (well, first words after "I love you, darling.") I have testimonials of positive results from grandchildren of the effect the reading of this book has on even infants.

GREAT Book!

I love the night light. It's just enough light to avoid stubbing a toe. Love the book too.

If you don't have this book as part of your "bedtime" collection, you must have made the decision to remain childless. Awesome first book for baby, still works for 2-3 year olds.
Be a hero at your next baby shower, bring a copy to the new Dad...

Super-sweet Goodnight Moon set!

This book and nightlight combo is absolutely adorable. It goes without saying that the book is a surefire hit with little ones, but I wasn't sure how the nightlight would be received. My girls ended up fighting over it because it was so appealing! Nightlight could be a little brighter, although I guess that's not exactly the point...I can't imagine anyone being disappointed by this set.
