Complete racing history

This book is a great reference for Ferrari racing history. It covers all of the great side stories that only the insiders
knew about while they were going on. My personal favorite part was the section on Senna and his promise to join the team
that was never upheld because his life was cut short. The only thing missing is the actual race results. If you need a book
for that, I highly recommend The Complete Encyclopedia of Formula One. This book has everything you need to know about every
team that ever existed, every circuit ever raced on, every points scoring driver, and the results of every race from the beginning
of the championship to the end of 1999.

A "different" Henry Gregor Felsen

If you are puzzled as to why author Henry Gregor Felsen ("Hot Rod", Street Rod", "Road Rocket") wrote this piece under the
pen name, Angus Vicker . . . well, so was I. But now I know why.
The other automotive novels (a few are named above) were written for a target audience of male teenagers, and generally carried a strong moralistic message. Fever Heat is much different. . . .
"Fever Heat" is narrated in first person. The storyteller is not a teenager and he is not a nice person. In a way, it's just 50's pulp fiction. But the stock car racing aspect is unsettling real, and shows inside knowledge by the author.
Written circa 1954, besides being "hard to put it down", it also documents the dirt track scene at the birth of modern stock car racing (what evolved into NASCAR type racing).
In short . . . a drifter ex-racer with a troubled history stops in a small town and becomes involved with a local garage, its widowed owner, and the local dirt track. Some violence, a little thinly veiled sex, plenty of smash-up action on the track, including the fatal kind. It's a fun read and rather a historical experience.
Recommended for automotive and/or Henry Gregor Felsen enthusiasts.

Is it more important to win a medal in sports competition or in life situations? I enjoyed learning about the different field
day activities, but more than that I enjoyed find out why medals should really be given. This book is one that NEEDS to be
shared with children. I wish I had had this for both myself and for my children.

If you need a quick, easy to read but information packed guide on collecting NASCAR collectibles, this is the book you want.
Ken Bresalauer has been covering NASCAR and its memorabilia for more than 25 years, and in this book he gives readers the
best of his experience. Furthermore, the photos are great - large, sharp and pertinent to the collectibles discussed. Beginning
collectors beware - there are no prices shown - you're on your own, armed with Breslauer's reflected knowledge. - Leila Dunbar

I loved this book as well as all of C.W. Andersons books. He is the best childrens writer in the universe. There will never
be another writer who will be able to capture the wonder and innocence of childhood past.

This is an amazing account of how NASCAR began and grew into the huge sport it is today. It is written in a very entertaining
and informative way and the author has uncovered many details that are presented as sidebars. There are several in-depth interviews
and wonderful photos from the days when they first raced on the beach at Daytona up to the modern era. Anyone interested in
NASCAR racing should own this book.

This is a great book with Native American stories from all over America. It has many stories and about four sections with
about five stories in each section. I have some Native American blood and this book has stories from my ancestors. You
should really read this book.

Since first reading this book about 15years ago I can still remember the horrid story of Moe and Al sleeping on a wide ledge in Italian Alps... and the whole ledge simply dissapearing into space whilst they are sleeping..... I will not give away how they survived this one... it was however pure luck or fate.
There are also some real lighter gems in the book as well. The climb of the old fogers on the Old Man or Hoy where the corpulant Don Whillans well into his 50s shows the younger hands how it is done...
This book is a kind of tonic for Alvarez to deal with the loss from cancer (at a very young age) of his climbing friend Moe Antoine. In that sense the climbing stories are always framed against the background of larger issues, personal relationships, love, aging, and the prospect of sudden death -- all shot through with a wonderful humour. Yet there are times when reading this book that one is forced to put down the book momentarily and deal with the larger issues of life...
The book is slim and when you finish it you feel a sense of loss, like a journey that ended... why more people do not read this book I do not know...
