This story seems to be about a simple bicycle race; butit'sdeeper than that. This story exemplifies the power of endurance.A
race where all contestants are riding bicycles. Fair enough exceptone of the contestants has to stop to fix their bike. They
don't just fix the bike and return to the beginning of the race giving up; but they instead continue in the race not only
to finish -that was an encouragement in itself-but to go on to win really says a lot. This is an excelent story to encourage
our youth to continue on no matter what problem you can not only make it but be successful. This story says don't go on trying
to just finish your course. Instead acknowledge that you have a problem, handle it and move on to obtain your prize. We all
no the the saying that derived from the scriptures about how the race isn't given to the swift nor the battle to the strong
but to he that endureth till the end. This book, again, tells me that I don't only get to finish the race but I can be a
winner in the race. To God be the Glory!

Barbara George and her husband Robert were the stalwart publishers of VeloNews, a publication focusing on velodrome racing,
some years ago. This book offers a complete view of bicycle track racing in the 70s geared toward young riders. Photos by
Robert are excellent and document that era most effectively. The George's offered models for those who followed (i.e. "No
Brakes!"). A must for the bicycling history collection.

There's a bunch of cool prizes being given out for the winner of the bike race and bike rodeo in River Heights. It's being
sponsored by Bike Mania, the shop in town.
It seems like everybody wants to win, but not everybody wants to play fair!
Some bad sport has stolen George's bike. Now, it looks like she'll not be able to compete. Even worse, George will lose a bet with a boy who really wants to win. But does he want to win badly enough to steal another contestant's chances?
With her wonderful blue notebook, Nancy Drew will start using her good powers of observation and logic to solve The Bike Race Mystery before you race to the last page!
Once again, Carolyn Keene combines the mysteries her readers expect to read with the backdrop of colorful activities that they love.

this is a real nice photo book of the late forties dry lake hot rod history. The numerous high quality (mostly in colour)
pictures of this era give a real nice flavour. The pictures were taken by a professional photographer and it shows, this is
not your fuzzy, discoloured family photo album. Together with the text (short stories from numerous participants of that era)
gives this book a real good impression. Recommended.

A Rich History Of Triumph And Tragedy
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-06
Review Date: 2007-03-06
Between the years 1875-1902, a dozen black jockeys were aboard winning mounts 16 times in the Kentucky Derby. There hasn't
been a black jockey in the winner's circle since Jimmy Winkfield 105 years ago.
In an information-packed 110 pages, authors James Robert Saunders and Monica Renae Saunders takes the reader back to a forgotten period in American history that was yet another victim to the hate of institutionalized racism.
Biographies of the 12 jockeys are richly supplemented with an overview of society and the sport, along with background material that dates back to slavery, when most jobs in the plantation stables were done by slaves & jockeys as young as 10 or 11 piloted the Thoroughbreds in races throughout the nation.
How bizarre it is that opportunities in the sport that began with slavery were then destroyed by slavery in the guise of Jim Crow. The reverberations are still felt today, as opportunities at the top levels of the sport have remained difficult - if not impossible - for blacks to achieve.
The appendix includes lists of champion jockeys, trainers who had runners in the race and owners who had starters in the field. The Thoroughbred owners include Berry Gordy and Stanley Burrell, better-known as MC Hammer, whose racer was aptly named, Dance Floor.
This is a story of triumph in the face of great odds and the tragedy of a nation that seeminngly can't ride fast enough away from the real history of racism in society & sports.

track. I have been a regular reader of Dean's columns
at Horseplayer Magazine and TVG's online newsletter
for almost five years. He shows you how to tackle
time and money management, both of which are seldom
dealt with in other racing books. Everyone can pick a
couple winners each day, but hardly anyone wins money
on that alone. This books helps you do the preparation
for the day's events and how to do smart decision
making right up to the start of each race. Daily and
annual money management are also covered--again,
realities of betting most authors don't deal with. The
tools tactics and philosophy shared makes this book a

basis and overall management over the course of the
year are critical to success as a handicapper.
- Arnold emphasizes the importance of time management
to a handicapper. This includes both preparation for
the day's events and decision making right up to the
start of each race.
- Provide big picture statistics in racing that will
lead to new and fresh perspectives.
- Present handicapping tools, tactics and concepts
that will alter how you look at races.
- Show how all of these concepts are combined into a
sensible strategy that can be tailored to satisfy any
bettor's individual approach to handicapping.
