I'm so surprised nobody has reviewed this wonderful book yet! I guess it's up to me.
First, this book is easy to read and comprehend, which is good because there is lots of useful information to remember. There is nothing in this book that is not covered. It even has a section about the tick diseases greyhounds can have because at the tracks, the dogs are not given any sort of flea/tick control.
This book does not take sides in the greyhound racing debate. Instead it gives truthful, unbiased information all about greyhounds! If you are seriously interested in adopting a retired racing greyhound, this is the book for you. It has lots of gorgeous photographs and short, fun stories about adopted greyhounds. It is very well organized and it is easy to find what you are looking for.
I really like Adopting the Racing Greyhound by Cynthia A. Branigan also, but if I had to pick between the two I would pick this one simply because the information is just as good plus you get color photographs and shiny pages. Whee! Also, it is a hardcover book and in my opinion that is a plus.
This book is perfect and lovely. I highly recommend it to any greyhound fan!

As someone who doesn't count horse racing or indeed gambling as a main interest,it was at a time of year when having a had
a couple of sucessful bets I looked to see if there were any books on the subject. I flicked through a few pages and found
his racing systems fascinating especially as he described how it was possible to reduce the number of potential winning horses
in most top class races, down to just a few with a bit of research and sometimes just common sense. I am constantly picking
up and putting down the book even 2 years after buying it. It took the author an awful lot of time and research to come up
with the contents of this book but there are so many useful bits of information that I am just waiting to see if he writes
an up to date version.

Horse Race Betting Using Track-proven methods!

Review Date: 2005-02-24
A simple, proven system of picking winning horses. Shows the beginner in a few easy lessons how to be his own handicapper.
Shows the experienced race-goer a new type of long-priced, real best bets that have won with astonishing consistency in different
months and in different years. Text includes reference rules, glossary, and examples of how to calculate and make a winning
bet. 183 pages plus list of major tracks. Sequel to "Payday at the Races." The necessary requirements for each of three
of the most powerful types of selection are presented in a nutshell so that each can be recognized almost at a glance. No
stone was left unturned in making sure that the "power plays" would win reasonably often under all conditions. Tests were
taken at all major tracks but it was demonstrated that these methods also would work well at small or "minor" tracks, which
hitherto have been the bugaboo of most amateur handicappers. If these methods continue to produce such astounding results,
the reader should have little hesitancy in conducting his operations with the utmost confidence.

The Revolution is Televised

Several years ago it seemed that synthetic racing surfaces were going to be a niche product in North America; mostly found
at tracks which race through the frigid winter months.
But the evolution of the revolution has catapulted these surfaces into locations - and climates - throughout North America, which has made a puzzle for handicappers seem even more puzzling. This is where Bill Finley's outstanding analysis becomes the winning ticket.
In the first book out of the starting gate to explore the angles from the current data available, Finley takes the macabre out of the subject. "The modern horseplayer now has to learn the ins and outs of synthetic surfaces, which has some people horrified," he writes.
Through research from thousands of races, Finley delves into the brand differences of surfaces & track biases, running styles, pedigrees & sire lines, the "bounce" & training factors and racers making surface switches. "As it turns out, most synthetic surfaces are anything but slow, deep, and tiring," he says. "The bottom line is that synthetic surfaces are not that different from conventional dirt tracks."
Finley has a solid exploration into this new subject which gives any railbird a chance of finding success in this sweeping change of a landscape that is here to stay.

This book is a must read for anyone heading to the
track. I have been a regular reader of Dean's columns
at Horseplayer Magazine and TVG's online newsletter
for almost five years. He shows you how to tackle
time and money management, both of which are seldom
dealt with in other racing books. Everyone can pick a
couple winners each day, but hardly anyone wins money
on that alone. This books helps you do the preparation
for the day's events and how to do smart decision
making right up to the start of each race. Daily and
annual money management are also covered--again,
realities of betting most authors don't deal with. The
tools tactics and philosophy shared makes this book a
definate for those that want a fresh perspective on
betting!
basis and overall management over the course of the
year are critical to success as a handicapper.
- Arnold emphasizes the importance of time management
to a handicapper. This includes both preparation for
the day's events and decision making right up to the
start of each race.
- Provide big picture statistics in racing that will
lead to new and fresh perspectives.
- Present handicapping tools, tactics and concepts
that will alter how you look at races.
- Show how all of these concepts are combined into a
sensible strategy that can be tailored to satisfy any
bettor's individual approach to handicapping.

This story seems to be about a simple bicycle race; butit'sdeeper than that. This story exemplifies the power of endurance.A
race where all contestants are riding bicycles. Fair enough exceptone of the contestants has to stop to fix their bike. They
don't just fix the bike and return to the beginning of the race giving up; but they instead continue in the race not only
to finish -that was an encouragement in itself-but to go on to win really says a lot. This is an excelent story to encourage
our youth to continue on no matter what problem you can not only make it but be successful. This story says don't go on trying
to just finish your course. Instead acknowledge that you have a problem, handle it and move on to obtain your prize. We all
no the the saying that derived from the scriptures about how the race isn't given to the swift nor the battle to the strong
but to he that endureth till the end. This book, again, tells me that I don't only get to finish the race but I can be a
winner in the race. To God be the Glory!
