This is without a doubt one of the most completely compelling books about auto racing that I have ever read. The author manages to expertly blend the human side of families in the racing world, with the excitement of the sport. The book reads so smoothly, I keep thinking I saw a movie. If you're into the NASCAR scene, you must read this book.

Two years ago when I started following the motor sport NASCAR, I purchased this book to give me the history and background that i needed to be able to understand the roots and expansion of what we now see on modern racetracks.
It was reading about the France family that I learned the deep roots about the evolution from beach racing to the building of the Daytona track.
I highly recommend this book as one to own and to read to enlighten you about the sport of racing stock cars if you go to races. As a woman, I must tell you girls to read this to learn why it is so popular with men.

I have a standing order to have sent to me every book Tim Miller writes. But after reading this book I don't think this dude is the same man who wrote SHIRTS AND SKINS and other gay performance scripts. This book is a good one too, and I read it through from cover to cover, pausing to admire the many mint photographs. The book is lavishly illustrated with a lot of wire photos and close ups of important moments in stock car history. They have access to computer databases and can thus list the exact dollar amount won by their profiled drivers through all of recorded history (extra money is earned, of course, through private endorsements and these do not appear in the "career earnings")

Tim Miller and Steve Milton do a great job outlining the history of NASCAR and how it grew from a tiny, low class racing circuit to the largest business in the world today. The cover says it all, three top drivers covered from head to waist with advertising logos of all kinds of companies. Bud, Champion, Home Depot, it's a sport in which men dress up as billboards then climb into cars with even more ads on them. On every page is an ad, but that's just part of the colorful history of NASCAR. Milton and Miller go into the way NASCAR used to have competitors, but they have since squashed all competition by the power of branding. Thus such famous drivers of the past as Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt didn't really align themselves with NASCAR at all, though you can bet your bottom dollar they'd do so today. In the past, Richard Petty held up the NASCAR tradition and singlehandedly made Americans aware of NASCAR as a reputable outfit. One section of NASCAR NOW profiles the up and coming drivers of tomorrow--the Dale Earnhardts of the future. LOL, it will be greart sport to keep this book around a few years and see how accurate Milton and Miller are at predicting who will be on top in, say, the year 2005 or 2010. For all we know, the great driver of the next generation is someone whose name we have not yet heard.

Another cool section profiles the NASCAR masters of the past thirty years. Those were the days befor NEXTEL took over and instead the tobacco industry controlled the advertising, so the big prize was called the WINSTON CUP. Miller and Milton are sympathetic sportswriters and each has a flair for the winning phrase. Of Kyle Petty, they write, "Petty. the name resonates around stock car tracks like thunder through a canyon." Everyone loves a winner and this book has 'em on every page, and the photography is outstanding. Check out the fish eye lens that makes Sterling Marlin's 2003 Michigan entry look like a spaceship from way out in the Milky Way.

You cannot call yourself a race-chaser without owning at least one copy.

This book is a very detailed overview of the 2002 Formula 1 season. Im not sure why it says 2002-2003 on the cover because it is only about the 2002 season. This book is well worth the price it is huge and covers the season, the drivers, the teams and the events of the 2002 season in full detail with 100's of color pictures. A must own for any formula 1 fan.

Throughly comprehensive.

The 2002 F1 annual will be familiar to you if you already have read or leafed through the 2001 annual as the lay out and format is the same as the previous edition. It also is just as comprehensive with seperate chapters for the drivers, teams and races.

The drivers each get a least two pages, summarising their season, results and perceived failures. The team summary, covering both drivers, team personnel and commercial activities also includes race by race summaries including practice and qualifying, so the reader obtains a much more complete overview of the race weekend for any particular team, and this is one area where the F1 Annual is clearly superior to the Hazelton Autocourse series.

In a double dose of information since you get a team summary of each race in the teams chapter, there is also a chapter relating to the overall picture of each race of the season, including what I think are quite nice circuit graphics. Also covered in this annual is race by race technical profiles of changes to the cars at each race, including drawings by Giorgio Piola, another clear advantage over Autocourse. The last chapter is a results section, giving the race results for every Grand Prix since 1950. Also included, unusually I think for an annual, is an index.

On the downside, the photography at times is not the best. I'm not sure, but I think some of the images are screen captures from the Digital TV feed. The picture quality, or lack of it, is further amplified by the paper itself, which is quite lightweight. Having said that, if the paper was of a heavier bond, the book would weigh more than its already considerable weight! While the results from 1950 onwards is nice to have, I wonder whether it is really necessary. If the producers of F1 Annual choose to keep with the Statistics section, then I would think having some further stats relating to drivers and teams, most GPs, most wins & poles etc... would add to the merit of this section. I have also noticed a number of typo errors, which for the amount of money invested into this book is unacceptable, but this is also something the producers of Autocourse are guilty of.

Overall, despite the deficiencies in the book, this is a throughly comprehensive review of the 2002 season, and is probably much more laden with the info that the F1 "anoraks" like myself like to see than Autocourse is likely to give.

They cover the long span between horse, rider, friendship, helpfulness, and knowledge. This book is for anyone who just wants to learn something new in each book.

I loved this book. When The Saddle club go to the race track, Lisa finds it a great opportunity to practice being a photographer, until a picture she took could solve a mystery! Will The Saddle club get caught before they could tell anyone, or will they solve another mystery at the race track.

Larry Davis has another great book out as a follow up to Super Stock - Drag Racing the Family Sedan. This one mainly covers the factory built stockers and cars that made places like Woodward Avenue famous. Good clean photos (wish they could have been bigger though) of a lot of stockers. The focus is on the Midwest/Ohio are where Davis grew up. Great book, highly recommended!

This book is superb. I couldn`t corner properly until I read the section on cornering, now I can power through at a higher speed than some of my team mates. The training section is particularly useful. Throughout this book makes its points with excellent colour photographs.
