Shark Books

Have you ever wondered where sharks come from? How their bodies work? Who are their closest relatives? Well, read this terrific book about sharks. Take for example, the oldest shark, the Magalondon. It became extinct about 12,000 years ago. This book tells about why sharks attack humans, how a shark's body works, and why some sharks are becoming endangered. This book also has a foldout Tiger Shark. If you are into sharks this book is for you.

When he was very young, my son continually begged me to teach him to dive. Once I considered him old enough, he got that training and went on to be come a very good diver. In the meantime, however, he was always very frustrated and disappointed. All I could do was discuss it with him and buy him books similar to this one.

Aimed at the younger reader - though not too young, this book explains all about the Shark and does so under a series heading of "Great Creatures of the World." I was delighted to see this magnificent and much maligned fish given such status alongside other equally magnificent creatures in the same series.

Some excellent photographs and diagrams - but most of all, this is a book from which the younger generation will learn something positive and I fully recommend it.

I had just finished reviewing a book for the younger reader about Sharks Where I was disappointed to find the content patronising and everything set in large type - as though children are blind as well as stupid. Then, to my utter delight, the very next book in my pile of "reviews to be completed" was this one - and what a contrast.

This book explains almost every single aspect of the Shark. It starts out by asking various questions; Which is the biggest Shark in the world?; How many teeth does a Great White have?, and so forth. But asking these questions is easy, it is the reply which takes both skill and, above all, knowledge. In this book, the author demonstrates both those attributes as, page after page, we are treated to a complete exposé of the Shark - inside and out (literally!).

This book is a most useful tool and equally important to those who simply want their questions answered as it is for those who scuba dive and wonder about meeting these much-maligned creatures.

I first read this in High School because I was captivated by shark fishing at the time. It is really much more than that as the author relates his experiences with the many interesting characters he encounters. I recommend it partly because of this but also because of the 50s style and topic, almost certainly enhanced by the English translation of a French text.

This makes a nice poster for a young person's room. It contains a nice representation of many species of sharks. It is not a replacement for a key with different species or a good book, but for those interested in sharks it shows a nice range of different kinds in an attractive format.

This book provided hours of fun viewing for the kids. I actually enjoyed having a look as well.

It is about Shirley and Albert who go swimming while the sun is going down. Shirley sees blood comming from behind her. Then a suprize happend to Shirley.

I am not a big mystery reader, but this one was fun! There were times when I would actually laugh out loud and that is something I never do while I am reading. I highly recommend this great book to anyone that loves mystery books with a dash of adventure!

My 5- and 8-year olds love this book -- simple instructions, great results.

This book teaches facts about the Hammerhead shark in a storybook format. The Hammerhead is born, swims away, then begins her life's work : searching for food. We learn why it is practical for Hammerhead to have such widely spaced eyes. Facts about other ocean creatures are included when they fit the story. The illustrations are realistic, including blood when Hammerhead scores dinner. I estimate this book is best for ages 4 - 8; short but informative.
