I've always had trouble finding the right place to go to on the net. When I got this book, I tried out all the fun places to go to (well, not all) and then suddenly I made a lot of favourite web sites. Although the book didn't cover all the best places, the sites Gralla recommended had a lot of links to other sites. So far, the only problem was that some of the sites that looked interesting was available only on America Online or Prodigy, which was why i rated this book a 9.

Great for parents/kids to get started, find great sites

I'm a parent and a grandmother, and this book helped me show my 7 year old granddaughter some really fun and interesting sites on the World Wide Web. The other thing it did was to explain a few things I didn't know, like the difference between the Internet and online services, and some basic information for the totally clueless on how to get started on setting up a computer at home. We found the site where you can look at the earth in crescent from a satellite, zoom in on any place in the world (that's not in the dark) and be amazed. She loved looking in Antarctica, and at the Nile...and then finding games to play, and the fact that she could type in the letters herself and get around. Non readers need help on what each site means, but this book is one more tool to let a child see the VALUE of reading (what site do I want?), find places to learn, and get proficient with typing and using the Internet.

It's okay to not know! Just give this book to someone who WANTS to know how to break into Cyberspace, and watch them soar, like my granddaughter has! PS If you don't want to invest in a computer until you know what it's all about, go to a public library and look up some of these sites for yourself with or without your child, and see for yourself what it's all about. I have the 1999 edition, and hope he puts out a new one soon...be wary of the first edition in 1996 as it will be outdated.

Just finished my sub-I (AI) in medicine and this book was awesome. Small, but packed with tons of great/relavent info. Now, if u have easy, quick access to up-to-date, u probably don't need this. Up-to-date is hands-down the BEST source for students/residents/physicians. Damn, that sounds like a pitch eh? So no, I don't work for up-to-date...but god do i hope LSU offers it to the residents.

Needless to say . . . I bought it . . . Now I know why . . .

The crime . . I never had this book sooner.

SO GOOD!

Great introductory book for all facets of radiology from plain film to MRI. The question and answer format makes it very easy to read. The radiology images are vastly improved compared with the prior edition. A must have for the 4th year med student, the 1st year radiology resident, or anyone who wants quickly brush up on any radiologic modality. As a 3rd year radiology resident I particularly found the various MRI chapters very helpful.

Understandable, affordable, and memorable - this product is essential material for the boards. Physiology is the foundation for superior scores on Step 1 and is what second year pathology is based on. With so much resting on understanding this subject, you can't leave it to researchers, irritated they are away from their lab, to teach it to you.

This is awesome - I just wish I it had come out sooner.

Finally, I get physio!

This book was extremely helpful for preparing for the NBME gross anatomy shelf exam. It has standard outlines of stuff you need to know and lots of pertinent clinical situations too.

I also have a recent past edition of BRS gross, and this book was far better. There are two practice exams at the end of the book with organized, detailed explanations, and the questions were very similar to those on the shelf exam. This book also uses pink ink to enhance the text, which is written in black. I would definitely recommend this book as a comprehensive review source.

Outstanding review for Gross Shelf Exam

In preparing for the gross NBME shelf exam I used this text and went all the way through it in 3 days. The NBME mainly tests the important concepts with emphasis on the clinical correlations, which this book emphasizes. I was surprised that there were very few questions on the exam that I thought were outside the realm of what I prepared for (something I can't say for the previous NBME's I've taken: phys/histology/biochem).

My approach that worked well: Pick a region (i.e. thorax) go page by page through an atlas and refresh your memory on the relationships. Then read the chapter in your review book. I also read through all the netter clinical pearls in the hours before the exam.

Great review book to accompany Netter.

I have looked at both BRS Gross Anatomy (Board Review Series) and this book, and I believe that this book, despite being about 200 pages shorter, is the perfect review book to accompany Netter while taking Gross Anatomy as an M1. A lot of people get BRS because it's longer, and they think that this makes it a better companion while you are actually in the class. It is a good book, and you would be fine if you got it, but I decided on this book because:
1) It's written better and more concisely yet still covers nearly all questions on MY exams.
2) It uses few diagrams and uses them only to make essential points clear. And the illustrations are "crammable." My beef with BRS is that it doesn't have that much more information than this book (and what it does have extra is lower yield anyway), but it is filled with muscle tables and crappy illustrations as if it is trying to replace Netter (or any other real atlas) but ends up clouding an otherwise fine review book. (I know Netter doesn't have muscle tables in the book, but it does have them on www.netteranatomy.com )

I have my anatomy text and use it, but to be honest one could probably get by with using only this book, Netter, and lecture and lab.

This is an outstanding surgery review text. When used in conjunction with a solid review textbook that breaks these topics down, your reading is highly focused and relevant with increased retention. I use the Clinical Review of Surgery and the two work well as a combination. FYI, very FAST shipping with Amazon - got the book the next day!

Discovery Channel, move over. Keep this book at your computer terminal. Now you can indulge in (a lot) of learning, or just quenching your curiosity!

Not just for grown-ups--there's a whole chapter (pp313-334) titled "KIDSTUFF", with pointers to such sites as "Helping Your Child Learn Science", "Children's Butterfly Site", "Science Made Simple" and "Planet Pals". With the decline of our schools, perhaps kids using the Net to carve out their own learning journey will be a big part of the solution.

Oh, there's a whole chapter on Mathematics! Good for those among us who were unlucky enough not to have good math teachers at school (which is most of us, I guess. Good maths teachers are a rarity.) The sites covered here might very well spark passion in our younger folk who have this subject spoon fed to them in it's most tasteless form. I mention this because I, myself, struggled with Maths at high school. That struggle ended when I took charge of my own Maths training. I chose my own books & materials and methods of learning. And saw my Maths marks skyrocket.

Need I say more? Get this book. For yourself. For your kids. For your country which is already in painful need for the scientifically astute.

This is a great book because the number of quality of Pokemon sites are few and the guide gives you the best of them. Also, there's a built in deal where if a site is down you can contact the publisher and they'll fix the issue. (I should know -- I *am* the publisher!) :)
