I read (and reread) this book after beginning reverse therapy. While I am finding the therapy very important, reading the book has given me a great foundation for understanding the process, and provides reminders and support between sessions. Applying the principles described in the book is life-changing, and not just for people who have CFS. Anyone wanting a healthier and happier life can benefit from the mindset and strategies described here.

Helpful, but not magic

I read the book a year ago, and I've been going to Reverse Therapy sessions for about 6 months. I'm about 10 percent better, and I will persevere as that's more benefit than I've gotten from anything else. I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about trying Reverse Therapy, and I would recommend it to anyone with CFS to have as a tool. Reading it in conjunction with John Sarno and Freedom From Fibromyalgia (Selfridge and Peterson) will help.

Well worth the read

Whether you go ahead and work with a therapist using this approach or not, just the reading alone can be enormously helpful. It was for me. I think with this view I am finally getting to the root of why the CFS took hold and what causes the various symptoms, and this education/perspective is helping me get going so the symptoms can loosen their grip, not only for CFS but for other sub-optimal reactions my body has developed over the years that lessen a full experience of life.

Life-Changing

In a word, this book was life-changing. I thought I was recovered from CFS, but I have made great strides since reading, and internalizing, the smart tenets of this book. It's a quick read, and Dr. John Eaton makes all the concepts simple and easy to understand. A must-read.

The best book ever written on CFS/M.E.

I suffered from CFS for 13 years, but now I am recovered. Reading Dr. Eaton`s book gave me very valuable and vital clues about the process of recovery. The book is almost sufficient to treat the condition by yourself and I would recommend it to anyone suffering with CFS/M.E. or fibromyalgia. It gives a detailed overview of Reverse Therapy and how it developed from earlier theories of eminent psychologists and therapists. In addition to giving a good theoretical basis for understanding RT, this book gives a lot of practical information as well. The book gives you a good understanding of Reverse Therapy, but is a bit lacking in instructions on how to treat the condition by yourself. But I assure you: you can get well with the help of this book. I used some additional sources to learn about the process, but I would say that if you read this book, you only need a bit of outside support to get well. Which is not to say that the therapy is useless, ofcourse. If you have a chance, attend the sessions, but by all means, read the book first!
This book is THE BEST book ever written on CFS! Dr. Eaton has done a wonderful job. Thank you for your invaluable work!

I think that Mr. Kozak-Holland's book is perfect for any manager as well as IT management. Having had my own business I felt when I read this book that the advice applies not only to IT but can be offered as helpful hints and warnings to just about business, big or small. I am currently contracted in IT and often see the same re-occurring problems at all levels. Mr. Kozak-Holland's book should make us all look at our past downfalls and ensure we all learn from them. This book works well on many levels's being entertaining, insightful and a fun read for anyone interested in history.

I feel that Mr. Kozak-Holland's book is ideal for technical IT managers, and also for non-technical managers having to be involved with computing solutions.

A great analogy using the Titanic as an example of over-confidence in building, and running a ship. If you don't plan to avoid "IT Icebergs", then you will likely hit one....and then what happens?

A great read!

James.

Mark Kozak Holland has really put things into perspective in this book. I found it entertaining and insightful. I could not put this book down after I started reading it. It's a fun read, pragmatic and unique in it's reflection on the Titanic as a perfect example of lessons learned from the past. As a CIO, I can really understand the messages and guidance the author is providing. The tools and guidance on best practices and "questions to ask today" are great. Well done, I'm looking forward to Kozak-Hollands follow-on book.

If you manage technology in a company, you need to read this

Refreshing! Clear! This book is a breakthrough for non-techies who need to manage technology!!
This book does an excellent job helping CIOs and other 'C' level, P, VP, and Director executives understand some of the key issues in managing a technology project. From requirements, to project management, to build, to testing, to deployment; without a lot of tech-talk, Mark has captured the issues an executive needs to be aware of to help ensure their technology projects succeed.
As an architect, I am going to buy this for the executives that rule my life! It helps both sides of the organization (business, technology) understand more of each other's issues fostering a more educated communication between them.
I know this book would be of great value to many of those whom I have consulted. I am sending a copy to three of them!

Very interesting angle to explain modern IT online projects

Being a history buff, I was intrigued with a book that could link a historic non-IT project with modern so-called new wave online IT projects. I was not disappointed, it clearly demonstrated the more things change, the more they become the same. The flow was pragmatic, thorough and easy to follow. The language was geek free and informs the reader on what they should expect from their deliverables and why they are needed. More importantly why certain decisions are made and their overall impact on any project. In the end, the book clearly demonstrates, through the Titanic reference, that it is rarely a single decision that creates the failure but a series of smaller seemingly unrelated decisions that cause us to fail. Failing to plan does cause your plan to fail.

I would recommend this book to any NON-IT person, and any IT professional who is about undertake a project that does involve Information Technology.

I compared Online Student Skills and Strategies Handbook (Pearson Longman 2006) to E-Learning Companion A Student's Guide to Online Success (Houghton Mifflin 2005) in order to select a resourse to support distance learning. I found Online Student Skills and Strateiges Handbook much more useful, learner oriented and readily accessible. It includes large, clear screen captures to accompany step by step directions. It handles practical topics like using Rich Text Format (RTF), practicing netiquette, storing lessons in a binder, and submitting assignments. It also includes cross references to other relevant chapters in the handbook, and it includes other Internet resources for each chapter. In comparison, E-Learning seems too textbookish. While E-Learning has a useful glossary and index, Online Student Skills and Strategies has a glossary, index and Webliography.

This guide gives you the history of online networking - starting with email, introducing e-newsletters, how to increase your Goggle presence, the 411 on social networks, basics to blogging, closing with internet forums and discussion groups. The plethora of information is presented in a fun and interesting format comparing today with the old world of Jane Austen.

THE SAVVY GAL'S GUIDE TO ONLINE NETWORKING is a must have guide for those not familiar with what the Internet has to offer today. The humor and relevant stories will encourage you to increase your time spent online. There is also information about the Downtown Women's Club - the what, when, how, and where to set up a local club. The easy-to-read nature along with the on-going storyline will keep you entertained while you learn.

Diane and Lindsey wrote a great book to help beginners and experts alike. This book is written in a style that helps beginners really understand what they should be doing with e-mail, newsletters (their own or the ones they sign up for), blogs and blog networking (usually overlooked and hardly touted as one of the best benefit of blogging), forums, social network sites (profiles, interactions, etc.) and much more.

I've been doing this stuff for a long time and there was a checklist of things that I came away with, stuff that I had been neglecting. I recommend this book to anyone interested in marketing their company or their personal brand through the Internet.

Once again Diane Danielson has made networking something fun and engaging, rather than something that makes you run screaming from the room. Relationships matter and so does being smart and deliberate in getting what you want - all presented in her usual kicky style. The dynamic duo of real networking walk their talk - Diane has been focusing on networks *well* before anyone got a Ph.D. in Knowledge Management, and Lydsey *owns* networking in NY. A fun read and important for everyone to know about, women AND men.

Evelyn Stewart has excelled in sharing the effects of abuse on the family. She opened her life to share with us how family violence was passed from generation to generation until one woman was ready to say "enough is enough." Totally Discombobulated keeps the reader spell bound. I would recommend this book to anyone, but particularly the woman that thinks she is in a hopeless situation. Evelyn shows with faith and fortitude, anything is possible.

I've always been one to read a book that teaches me something and reveals the life of a person who lives or lived a life of intrest. Evelyn is one of those people. She deserves to be heard. Domestic Violence is something we don't always hear about because I believe we've turned a deaf ear on the subject. I for one didn't believe it happened like this. It's hard for the average person to phantom the rage any one person could project toward someone they are suppose to love, honor and cherish. The way Evelyn tells her story is not only a history lesson but it is her true to life account of what she lived through. Some will say "why didn't she leave him?" Other's will say "I applaud her courage and I understand." Today more than ever this horror needs to be exposed for what it is. The suffering has to stop and people need to be courageous enough to run and hide from domestic violence. Every man, woman and child will benefit from Evelyn's story and realize that the silence and hiding of such a crime is only perpetuating the violence.
If this book becomes a movie it is a sure blockbuster. The way Evelyn relates her life story is a movie on pages. This book deserves to be read whether a victim or a survivor, the average person or not, it is an eye-opener. I never got the full picture when I read this book. It has made me aware and has equipped me with knowledge and compassion to help anyone who might be suffering in the life of domestic violence. This book is a must read for anyone with the heart of compassion and anyone who would choose to expose the ugly truth that goes on behind closed doors all over the world.

A must-read if you're planning on contributing to Wikipedia...

I'll admit I was tempted think "why do you need a manual for Wikipedia?". I mean, you go in, you edit an article, you save it, and you're done, right? Not so fast... Wikipedia: The Missing Manual by John Broughton goes into great depth about how Wikipedia works, how to get the most out of it, and (in my opinion) how best to become part of the trusted Wikipedia contributors group. There's a lot more to Wikipedia than you might expect...

Contents:
Part 1 - Editing, Creating, and Maintaining Articles: Editing for the First Time; Documenting Your Sources; Setting Up Your Account and Personal Workspace; Creating a New Article; Who Did What - Page Histories and Reverting; Monitoring Changes; Dealing with Vandalism and Spam
Part 2 - Collaborating with Other Editors: Communicating with your Fellow Editors; WikiProjects and Other Group Efforts; Resolving Content Disputes; Handling Incivility and Personal Attacks; Lending Other Editors a Hand
Part 3 - Formatting and Illustrating Articles: Article Sections and Tables of Contents; Creating Lists and Tables; Adding Images
Part 4 - Building A Stronger Encyclopedia: Getting Readers to the Right Article - Naming, Redirects, and Disambiguation; Categorizing Articles; Better Articles - A Systematic Approach; Deleting Existing Articles
Part 5 - Customizing Wikipedia: Customizing with Preferences; Easier Editing with JavaScript
Part 6 - Appendixes: A Tour of the Wikipedia Page; Reader's Guide to Wikipedia; Learning More; Index

Broughton doesn't spend much time with a fluffy introduction to Wikipedia and all the benefits and drawbacks of the site. He just dives right in to how to use it. You learn the markup language, as well as the formal way a Wikipedia article is laid out in terms of headers, footnotes, etc. Meanwhile, he's also introducing you to the "rules" of Wikipedia that you'll need to know in order to be an effective contributor. Concepts such as "neutral point of view", "conflict of interest", "notability", and many others are essential to understand so that you don't end up getting locked out of the site before you even get started. One thing I didn't know about were all the shortcut paths to get to certain topics. For instance, typing WP:COI takes you automatically to the Conflict of Interest page so that you can find out how to handle that situation. Couple all his technical "how to" information with his knowledge of the Wikipedia culture, and you have a book that is an essential read for someone planning on adding content.

Another element you get out of this book is the understanding of how wikis work (or how they *should* work). If you're starting a wiki of your own, it's best to learn from someone who has been there and done that. Since Wikipedia is the best known example of a large-scale wiki implementation, you can use this book to understand what features you'll need as well as what controls you'll have to have in place to make it all work properly. After I finish this review, I'm mailing my copy off to someone who is in charge of a community wiki effort for a software firm. I have no doubt that this will help them gain a better understanding of what and where things are going...

If you are at all involved in the world of wikis, this book should be on your short list of titles to get.

Valuable reference for beginning or expert editors

Review Date: 2008-05-10
This is a very clear and mostly-complete guide to creating and editing articles on Wikipedia, "the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit." It is not intended for people who look up things on Wikipedia, although there is a brief description of this process in an appendix.

It's surprisingly difficult to find things on Wikipedia. Even though all the how-to information is available free on their site, it's often difficult to find the thing you need, and everything is reference material--there's no tutorial for beginners. There are an amazing number of rules and practices to follow when editing Wikipedia (you don't just start typing), and this book does a good job of explaining and organizing them. This book is valuable because it is easy to find things in it and because it gives you a path to learning to edit Wikipedia. (Wikipedia uses the term "editor" for anyone who writes or modifies material.)

The most important thing I learned from this book is the importance of footnotes. An encyclopedia like the Encyclopedia Brittanica recruits experts to produce signed articles in their specialty. The selection process and the author's credentials give you some confidence in the material presented. Wikipedia lets anyone write or modify articles, and all articles are unsigned, so it must be approached more cautiously. Credibility depends on having all the statements referenced to reliable sources. I had not paid much attention to the footnoting in Wikipedia before, but after reading this book I notice how many articles are inadequately footnoted or have no footnotes at all. The Wikipedia leaders are very aware of this problem and continually urge editors to supply references. The high standard of sourcing every statement is met in many articles, especially those on very controversial subjects.

Any idiot can change an article on Wikipedia, and many idiots do. The most surprising thing I learned was how prevalent vandalism is. Estimates are that 10% of all edits are vandalism (p. 123). Most vandalism is obvious, for example, on March 20, 2008 the entire text of the article "Passive smoking" was changed to "ice cream icecream". Sometimes it is obvious when looked at, for example, a caption "San Diego Zoo" was changed to "San Hannah Montana". There are more subtle cases, such as adding bogus information or changing statistics. Each page has a complete history of changes, and there are human editors and robots who patrol the recent changes looking for vandalism. Most vandalism is detected and reverted within a few minutes or hours, so the average user will probably never see any.

The book has a few gaps in coverage. For example, there's half a page on p. 244 about the evils of having a single subsection, but there's no discussion of subsections in general and it doesn't even tell you the markup to create a subsection! After some rummaging around I discovered that the markup is described in Figure 1-4 on p. 8. This required "rummaging" because this page is not in the index under subsection.

For another example, capitalization of article titles is significant in Wikipedia, and there are several rules about how pages get looked up if there's not an exact match for the sought-for capitalization. Even worse, the rules are different when you type something in the search box and when you make a cross-reference from one article to another. The book does not explain any of this.

The index was disappointingly incomplete, especially since the Missing Manual indexes are normally excellent. One example: The technique of piped wikilinks (making the displayed text different from the linked article name) has many uses, and these are covered at several spots in the book where they naturally come up. But the index entry for "piped links" lists only p. 15. There's also an index entry for "vertical lines, wikilinks and", which is the same subject, but it does not cross-reference piped links and lists only p. 149. Another example: There are several entries under "wikilinks" and many entries under "links", although nearly all of the latter are wikilinks. The latter even has a subentry for "wikilinks", which has a different list of pages than the main "wikilinks" entry does.

Despite these weaknesses, the book is still extremely valuable to anyone who edits Wikipedia. It collects much useful information in an easy-to-use format.

The definitive book on how to contribute and become a successful Wikipedia editor.

If you have ever thought about contributing to Wikipedia, or have done so in the past, this is the definitive book on how to contribute and become a successful Wikipedia editor.

The book is broken down into 5 major sections which cover:

Editing, Creating, and Maintaining Articles
Collaborating with Other Editors
Formatting and Illustrating Articles
Building a Stronger Encyclopedia
Customizing Wikipedia

Each section is very well written and presents the material in a well organized and easy to understand manner. There is information for everyone from the novice to the experienced editor.

This book is not intended for the casual Wikipedia user, although reading it will certainly provide a lot more insight in to the scale of the entire Wikipedia project. It assumes a certain base level of understanding about what Wikipedia is and why it has become one of the world's largest group writing project. Instead it provides a very complete and concise set of guidance on how to contribute and get it right from the start.

My earliest contributions to Wikipedia date back to 2005 but that means little when you consider I have created or edited an article on Wikipedia less than 50 times. So, by their standards that definitely makes me a rookie editor. That is why his Missing Manual came in so handy!

I confess to have made most of the mistakes this book warns you about: if I only had read it before, I would have saved myself (and some editors) a headache or two. "Wikipedia: The Missing Manual" is an absolute must for anyone considering taking the plunge in the waters of this fascinating online encyclopaedia as well as for those who have been doing it (a little bit like myself or those who claim to know it all, even) for a while.

This book crowns the list of Missing Manuals I have read in the past year or so and convinces me of the niche this series fills so perfectly: above the "For Dummies" series and below the "Bibles".

Are you an editor that has an inquiring mind that needs to know? If you are, then this book is for you. Author John Broughton, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that is about the English edition of Wikipedia.

Broughton, begins by showing you the right way to edit, why you want to be a registered editor, how to become one, and everything you need to know about figuring out, tracking, and reversing changes to articles when appropriate. Then, the author discusses the rules of engagement, how normal conversations occur, the standard Wikipedia processes for disagreements over content, and dealing with incivility and personal attacks. Next, he introduces you to some parts of articles that aren't text or links: The table of contents, lists and tables, and images and other media. The author also shows you that an article isn't locked in stone--you can rename it, split it up, merge it with other articles, or even ask for it to be deleted. Insightful book about Jewish observance

This trilogy covers all of the Jewish holidays superbly. It not only covers how and when the holiday is observed, but it goes into a great deal of background information as to why the holiday is observed and what the meaning is behind the observance. It is written in an interesting manner, and I have a hard time putting it down once I start reading it. It is worth every penny that I paid for it.

Just a small warning though for those who are a bit less familiar with Hebrew and basic Jewish ideas: This may not be the first book you want to pick up. I did find myself creating a list of words to look up later that I did not know. I found that this aided with my memory of a number of key Jewish terms though, so this may not be a terrible problem really. If I could suggest an intro book before this one, I would suggest "To be a Jew" by Donin.

Rabbi Bulman did the Jewish world, and for that matter the world at large, a favor by translating this classic work by KiTov. Now Jews who labor under false ideas and others who do not have access to the true beauty of the Jewish year can read, learn understand and perhaps fullfill that which Jews have known for thousands of years.
The prose borders on poetry. The organization is superbe. The complex has been rendered simple in this wonderful book.

A Complete History and Insight into Jewish Lifecycle

This is the most comprehensive book on Jewish Lifecycle events that I have read. It discusses the entire Jewish Calendar and reviews ever significant date. In addition, he discusses areas that surprised me, such as Rosh Chodesh (the lunar calendar and celebrating the new month).

The series also covers the intermediate days between holidays and the laws that apply. The detail in which he covers Sukkot and the "Four Species" is amazing".

The wonderful part of it all is that the author traces the history of the events, and the pertinent Halacha (Jewish law) all the way back to the time of the First Temple.

An excellent, comprehensive work! It is done in a very easy reading style and yet thoroughly covers the subject. This is a resource for someone who really wants to learn about living Judaism!

A valuable work to enrich your learning.

I for many years learned with the Hebrew version of this work , called ' Sefer HaToda-ah.' This book was turned to whenever we were approaching a holiday or time of special meaning. Then the interpretation of KiTov his reading of the sources would greatly enrich our learning. I too believe this should be a part of the library of every Jewish home.

Following a concise and accurate history of the markets last 2-3 years and the possible developments that may effect participants in the markets.

This book is worth a read, by anyone interested in the markets.

I'm only sorry that I think the political aspects of these changes not happening is not addressed.

Patrick Young looks into his magic eight ball and reveals what the future holds for the financial markets. Very radical and probably very acurate. A must read for those traditional brokers who are contemplating a second house in the Hamptons

Futures As The Future of Financial Markets
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2000-07-22
As the cover of this book says: Liquidity! Accessibility! Transparency!

The authors take a European perspective to challenge the traditional way that financial markets have operated in the United States and elsewhere. They point out, correctly I think, that the revolution is here. Fully automated markets now do the bulk of the worldwide futures trading. For example the Chicago Board of Trade was overtaken in futures volume by the fully automated German-Swiss EUREX in Frankfurt in 1998. London was charging from behind to take a big piece of the automated futures business as well. Automated trading experiments are going on in a number of other places, as well.

The vision the authors have is captured by a quote from Ludwig von Mises: "Economic history is the story of the gradual extension of the economic community beyond its original limits of the single household to embrace the nation and the world."

This vision is essentially of convergence into one global market, with one clearinghouse, and one regulator to do everything. The need to get costs down will require that convergence as the ultimate solution. How imminent this vision is has to be a guess (the authors convey the vision in the form of a dream), but the stories in the book show how often the complacent, traditional view has been wrong. The authors are good at pointing out the speed bumps that will delay progress, and outline good ideas for better and faster implementation.

But they are definitely tolling the bell in the near future for face-to-face selling. "In the future there will only be electronic traders." They also see a rise of small traders, small banks (doing direct placements of IPOs over the Internet with traders without underwriting syndicates), and greatly squeezed paychecks for traditional investment banking and trading activities.

I found the book to be consistent with my own vision. I was still left with the question of why the transition has not been a faster one. Financial markets should be converging at a much faster rate, if one looks only at the technology and the use of the Internet. Which aspects of human stalls are the worst delayers? Probably the tradition and bureaucratic stalls, because the existing markets and regulators are very slow to see new opportunity. Consider how recently fixed trading commissions disappeared. Those should have been gone in the Roaring Twenties.

If you want good detailed information on the state of the electronic market revolution, this book is essential reading. If you own a seat on an exchange, your pocketbook requires immediate attention.

There is an excellent section on how to prepare for the transition, and another one on the dangers to be cautious of.

Good look in building your wealth faster through more efficient markets!

In reading the book, there are many things that would scare traditionalists in our business. The rules are changing, and unless we adapt as traders and exchanges, we will be doomed. As I have discussions with other board members, and other floor traders, some intuitively understand the coming electronic age. Others pass it off as a purely European phenomena. "It won't happpen here.", is a phrase I hear every day. Brokers and traders see that the computerized competitors are having a tough time gaining a foothold in the American futures market. They rest thinking that their future is secure, and that maybe their margins will be squeezed a little. The revolution has only begun. While some of the positions the book posits seem outlandish, Columbus was seen as outlandish in 1492 too. This is a must read for any person associated with floor trading or an exchange. This also makes good reading for anyone involved in government regulation. Barriers are being broken down. Borders set by politics are not relevant to the sea change taking place in the financial marketplace. The U.S. is the titan of investment capital today, but a government that shackles the growth of the marketplace due to over regulation, is doomed to see all that capital leave for less regulated environs. I am on the Board of Directors at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, so I speak from experience. The revolution has begun, and we are trying to embrace it.

Building on the monthly news and insight from Patrick Young's ADTrading.com newsletter, Patrick Young and Thomas Theys have put together a concise history of recent developments in capital markets, especially the futures markets, and the steady advance of electronic trading. As a longtime reader of the newsletter I have been exposed to most of these ideas on a monthly basis; as an industry executive I have watched the events unfold day by day. Nevertheless, this compilation provides fresh insight into Capital Markets trends.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in an overview of the recent history of the futures, equity and FX markets and a plausible view where the markets are heading.

I would also recommend Capital Markets Revolution to industry insiders who are well aware of the events and ideas discussed, as they can benefit from the framework and view of the future into which current events are placed.

Useful Resource for Those New to Online Auctions

Good information about creating an auction ad (including sample templates) and interacting with buyers and sellers. Another plus: she presents an impressive list of smaller, specialized auction sites by category.

She went into a bit too much detail about necessary hardware (computer, modem, etc.) as almost all her readers are probably already online. Also, as with any book written about a Net-related topic, some parts of it were out-of-date before it hit the shelves. For example, she reviews the auction site "Up4Sale" which is no longer in business.

Overall, a worthwhile read for those serious about buying and selling at online auctions.

I read the previous reviews of this book and I had to give my input - the more information, the better. Unfortunately, some data does go out of date. This book should be read before going to an online auction, while your in the middle of the auction, and after it's completion. There are lot's of examples (what I like) and how to's. If there's a problem with an auction, the author tries to assist you with other's examples. This an excellent "cookbook" for online auctions.

I found this book to contain the best and most conscise information on how to host an online auction. From start to finish, Nancy Hix guides you through every step with ease. Her advice is very easy to understand and follow. Being new to the whole internet auction experience, this book anwered numerous questions and enabled me to glide through auction sites very quickly. Her detailed descriptions of exactly how to host your own auction proved invaluable. If you are interested in learning about Online Auctions sites, or hosting your own auction, this book will get you started with confidence.

I had had already read two "online auctions made easy" type books before I bought this one. The others covered a lot of the basics but did not deal with HTML. I wanted to add "class" to my auctions and HTML was what I thought I needed and was confused on why these other books did not even mention the issue--I thought maybe it was too complicated??? Then I came across this book, it provided an extremely clear and easy walk through of the HTML language. There are even a few templates that I was able to examine and then adapted one for my own use. If a simple introduction to HTML is what you are after look no further...

I have been contemplating writing a book and a few people suggested creating a blog to test out ideas. I stumbled on this book and figured I would give it a read.

This is a great book if you have little or no idea of what you want to do with a blog.

It gives some good suggestions for things overlooked such as creating a sense of trust by filling out your profile so you give a possible reader an idea of why they should consider trusting you.

It discusses the free services such as blogger and typepad and it discusses what they offer to assist in choosing a provider if you go that route.

There are numerous links throughout the book that help with searching the Net for examples and ideas on what you may want to try.

There are many advice points such as backing up your blog and being careful about blogging at work which causes people to get fired.

There are suggestions for getting your blog noticed and some tools to assist your blogging.

As I am new I can't judge all the material but I found it useful as it gave me a better idea about blogging and where to look for more detailed information.

As mentioned this book is good for someone that is considering a blog and knows little or nothing. Someone who has already researched blogging, probably does not need this book. An advanced blogger can skip this book

If you know absolutely nothing about blogging, this is the book for you. The book spends as much time talking about the culture, community, and benefits of blogging, as it does walking you through the steps for setting up a simple blog.

If you've already done a little homework on blogs, this book will be too basic. Skip it and get the Dummies book on blogging, which spends more time helping you compare and choose the right blogging platform for your needs.

The 4 stars? It's a 5 star book for the beginner, but only a 3 star book for the advanced beginner and beyond.

Great for Getting Started

Once you read or skim the book, you understand blogging and can start your own blog. The book made me think about what kind of blog I wanted to start.

The book compares the major blogging sites in text and chart form. It gives advanced information on photo, audio, and video blogging. The resources section lists a lot of free web sites and articles, and I have used it many times.

Bottom line: this is as good as a source on blogging as any book will be, but any book on blogging needs to be supplemented by surfing the web.
