Mary's new book transcends platitudes and offers genuinely original suggestions on how we can gain the contentment we seek by letting go of our compulsion to control everything and everyone.
As she points out, the more we try to control life, the more out-of-control we feel. With real-life examples, laugh-out-loud insights, and tangible suggestions; the author shows us how to relax, connect, and enjoy our life as it unfolds instead of rigidly trying to predetermine every outcome.
The book is divided into easy-to-access-and-apply read bytes so you can dip into it and derive value even if you're busy and only have a few minutes to spare. Read it and reap.

I was really stressed out a few weeks back and picked up "I used to have a handle on life, but it broke." I love this book! It has very useable ideas and makes some points I had never considered. The book is small enough to not be overwhelming but packs a punch of information. I especially liked the chapters on the Powers like partnering with women and stop doing the behaviors (like filling in the blanks)that drain my energy and give me a false sense of control. I recommend this book to anyone overstressed and out of time. Great for men too!

Mary LoVerde has a special skill for entertaining and educating. This newest book does not disappoint. Once again Mary offers keen insights into lives of the overwhelmed. She shows us all her special insights for working our way out of the chaos. A great book for women..and for men who want to better understand them and themselves.

Powerful Little Book that Will Change Women's Lives
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-27
This little 5" X 7" book is packed with frustrations, irritations, confusions, and challenges faced by thousands of women who hold two full-time jobs: employee and mother. The magazines and newspapers are filled with stories about the difficulties women wrestle with every day. Women without husbands and/or children face the same issues. The message is clear: gotta be in control!

Control. Organize. Direct. Internalize. Chaos. Responsibility. Stress. Ineffectiveness. Unhappiness. This flow is not going to good places. And that's what has to change. Mary LoVerde takes her readers through the process in a comfortable, conversational "been there" style that will be much-appreciated.

The text is filled with comments, testimonials, emotional expressions and more from a wide range of women. I was amazed at how much was woven into this book to make it a really helpful tool for all those women who have tried to improve their life by tightening their grip. Change comes when you understand that control is often confused with power.

LoVerde suggests that true power comes from six approaches: pose good questions, pay attention, predict your Achilles' Heel, partner with women, pause before judging, and position yourself. The book is filled with compassion. Women who follow the advice will find a new serenity.

Side comment: a lot of men could learn a lot from this book, too. Couples reading it together risk finding a new level of happiness.

This book is the perfect combination of fun facts and information about the office of the president. Students learn about our country at an early age, and this book is written in the right style to appeal to younger children. Easy non-fiction is the biggest trend in children's literature today, and this book is a wonderful example of it!

This charming book will delight children and it's fun for parents, too. It gives insight into everyday Whitehouse life while providing factual information. Maybe it will even inspire a future presidential candidate.

I am a Kindergarten teacher and I really appreciate having books to use that give accurate information on topics I teach. This book does a super job describing the responsibilites of Presidents. We are even told that not everyone will agree with the decisions that the President makes and that the President will not always agree with congress (veto). The kids loved the part where the President's dog is in the newspaper because she had puppies. The use of children in the illustrations was appealing to my students. Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade teachers should get this book!

Heard the CD version of IF YOUR LIFE WERE A BUSINESS, WOULD
WOULD YOU INVEST IN IT? by John Eckblad and David Kiel.

This is a useful guide to making your life happier
and more productive . . . the authors contend that this
can be done by following 13 Life Business principles that
have worked in many successful businesses.

I liked the many exercises that were included, all of which
could be helpful to anybody wanting to determine
the patterns in his or her life . . . and then using this
information to plan for the future.

One particularly helpful suggestion was to keep in mind that
"management is doing things right, while strategy is doing the
right thing" . . . so the key is to do the right thing as you ask
contemplate this question: What new commitments will bring
more joy into your life?

The information in IF YOUR LIFE might sound basic, but it
is something that needs to be thought about--over and over.

This is a practical guide to getting ahold of one's life. It has a lot of exercises, some easy and some moderately difficult, but all interesting and useful. It allowed me to see the patterns in my use of time, money and energy, and then to realistically and creatively plan for my future. At a time when I was moving from one city to another, closing one career and considering another, seeing my kids depart home and returning to a less-constrained life, the exercises and spirit of the book gave me knowledge and control. I wish I had seen it sooner.

I was revising my life plans and goals when I stumbled across an article on this book. Many of the concepts are similar to those I tried to communicate in my books (Conscious spending for Couples and The Ms. Spent Money Guide), but applied to ones whole life... it's a nice structure for something that I have always done and always preached that others do - align what you do with what you truly value. Even if you don't buy the book, please buy the concept! It's great.

This book is a must read!! If you know anyone that has credit or financial issues, teenagers about to graduate from HS and college age kids-this would be a great gift for any occasion. Kids need to be informed now before they go out and start opening credit accounts they will later regret. They need to be educated on how to establish and maintain a great credit rating. Parents can use this as a guide. Buy it and read it for yourself. I am happy I have this book and look forward to sharing it and all that I have learned from it.

I've read many books on credit and this is one of the better ones. I like the fact that you can read what applies to you if you choose. You don't have to read the entire book from front to back but i'd recommend it for complete understanding.

It's very easy to follow, up-to-date, comprehensive. Highlights- a great chapter on credit scoring and improving your score; a good section on finding a good credit counselor; establishing and re-establishing credit, negotiating with collectors and I liked the tests after each chapter. The only thing I would have like more of is some negotiating tips but overall it's good.

I'd recommend Liz Weston's Your Credit Score as well.

I read this book and was amazed by the amount of information it gave. This author hits every area of credit that people need help with. Everything from credit scores to id theft is covered here and in great detail. It even gives little quizes at the end of each chapter to help you retain the info. The best part is that the chapters are so well segmented that you can just flip to the area you need help with and go from there.

This book by far is the best credit guide out there today. The ones I've read in the past just touch on certain things here and there, but this author really gives you what you need. I'm buying copies for each of my college children. It is highly recommended!

I read a lot of business-marketing books. It's hard to believe that this book was written in 1901. The examples are motivating, although dated. A fast read at 49 pages. It reads like a slightly older version of ThHINK AND GROW RICH. I'm assuming that AN IRON WILL inspired and provided the framework for the Napoleon Hill book. Solid examples. I ordered several copies as gifts. This isn't the kind of book you read. It's the kind of book you study.

Using Fictional Characters relating to Jungian and Enneagram models, Mark Bodnarczuk, takes the reader on a journey exploring the inner self. In a unique approach to the "Corporate Book" Mark invites the reader to identify with one of the characters and discover their own internal conflicts that prevent them from fully experiencing their potential for excellence and success. Mark's book takes us a step beyond just identifying leadership traits and obstacles, to recognizing, understanding, and overcoming those obstacles to unleash our full potential. I am on my third read of Mark's book and discover new insights each time. His principles have helped me achieve greater success not only as a CEO, but also in my personal life.

This book was one of the best books I've read in recent memory. The writer, Mark Bodnarczuk, uniquely used fictional characters to make a very complex subject enjoyable to read and easy to retain. His insights into how personalities affect work performance and teamwork were especially helpful. I've applied his principles in my organization and found them to improve teammwork, employee morale and organizational productivity. I would recommend this book to anyone who desires an understanding of human personalities, how people's personalities impact teamwork and how understanding personalities improves business performance.
