Time Tested Techniques To Help You Overcome Self-SabotageReview Date: 2001-05-10
I have taught workshops on overcoming self-sabotage since 1992. In the beginning, before each workshop I wrote a lesson plan but the participants always added new ideas and insights which further enhanced each proceeding workshop. Eventually, my notes turned into handouts, then book chapters, and finally a full-fledged book. Throughout the book I provide real-life examples of persons dealing with a wide range of self-defeating behavior. I outline step-by-step techniques to overcome self-sabotage and each chapter ends with a task list and action plan including worksheets, journal ideas, charts, and graphs to help readers apply the principles of the book to their daily lives.
I sabotaged my own success for many years. It wasn't until I began to change my old self-talk and stopped associating with negative, unsupportive people that true change occurred. I found that self-sabotage is often due to impatience and unrealistic expectations. I discovered that small, manageable goals followed by feasible rewards were an effective way to gain and maintain success. When you begin to focus on solutions, goals, and successes instead of problems and limitations, you can choose to recreate your life at any time, despite age or background. This book focuses on a holistic view of success. Rather than concentrating solely on material or career accomplishments, I invite the reader to define his or her own concept of success to include contentment, balance, and peace.
My hope is that this book will help you feel more alive; that you will see your own value and cease acting in self-destructive ways. I offer many time-tested techniques for you to do so. The rest is up to you. I would love to hear about the successes you encounter as a result of applying this book to your life.

Stop Hurting and Start Living!Review Date: 2007-02-18
As you may recall, I recently read and reviewed Zampelli's Donate Your Weight Weight Loss Program. After doing so - I rushed to collect the rest of Zampelli's parchment. Why? For starters, I like the way she leads readers from A to Z helping them overcome the most important obstacles: the intangible ones. After all, these are the challenges that keep us standing in our own way. And she uses this methodology to help readers overcome all of life's greatest challenges - including, but not limited to, weight loss.
She does it in this way.
In From Sabotage To Success, Zampelli first asks you to get to know and be honest with yourself. Through carefully crafted exercises, she asks you to step forward and review your "self" and your life - deciding your "role" as you see it. This information may surprise you as most of us define ourselves through others. Once established, this "coming clean" with regard to the past and present creates a jumping off point for charting a path to a destination of our own choosing. Next, you will create the ideal life you see for yourself. Zampelli asks you to "fast forward" and create this life by building your ideal version of it. You'll then back peddle into reality and prepare steps forward to reach this destination.
Said differently, Zampelli asks the hard questions that we are afraid to ask ourselves. For example: She challenges us to make absolutely sure that our goals for ourselves are truly our goals. Why? She explains: most often roadblocks to success come when we define ourselves by others and the groups or "tribes" to which we belong. Therefore, to identify our authentic selves is the first cut to reaching personal success. Secondly, Zampelli helps you realize the hidden ways you can Sabotage this process - ways that until now you may not have recognized. Mostly this involves letting go of the negative ideas we currently hold about ourselves - those which often stem from our childhood.
Perhaps you are overcompensating for your past by:
Controlling others?
Putting off your life?
Holding back from expressing your feelings?
Waiting for things to "work themselves out"?
Focusing on the negative?
Zampelli tells us, it's time to stop. In the second portion of the book, she leads readers by the hand to help us find our own definition of success, then offers exercises that you can use to work through these and other hurdles that could be standing between you and your vision for yourself. Here, she uses many of my favorite tools like creative journaling, mind mapping and affirmations. These will all help take you from where you are to where you'd like to be. This book then, becomes a personal roadmap to freedom.
From Sabotage To Success will be even more effective for those who:
~Have read every self-help book imaginable and still have found themselves stuck in their same old patterns.
~Are interested in changing the habits associated with self defeating behaviors that can keep them from reaching their full potential.
~Want to identify personal roadblocks, bring them to the surface to heal, then move on to claim the success they know is theirs.
The three best things about From Sabotage To Success in my opinion are:
One: Zampelli uses examples, anecdotes and stories from other real life individuals that exemplify the struggles we all face. This helps me identify with the issue at hand, realize I am not alone and that I am not "different" or "crazy" for having the feelings I do. In turn, this helps me to heal and overcome my highest hurdles.
Two: Zampelli fills the book with exercises, thought provoking ideas and tools. Soon after reading, I found myself excited about my life again. Through identifying and removing ways I stand in my own way through negative thinking - I've learned to identify when I'm "unhealthy." Free from negativity, I'm liberated to be excited about my life and the possibilities it holds for me.
Three: Zampelli, as customary, presents all of her work in a "been there done that" format. It's hard hitting as her story is a deep and painful one. Yet, this accessibility is exactly what makes Zampelli's books worth reading and applying - she speaks from her own passion to overcome obstacles, and her passion to succeed becomes contagious.
A Final Note: Just like her other work - this is not a book you will finish, close, then never look at again. It is a reference book you can consult over and over. As usual, I always choose to take the broad brush stroke first, then walk back through slowly - taking each exercise one at a time. Zampelli has penned another winner here - and she takes you right along with her.

Although I have read probably just about every self-help book on the market, I found Sabotage to Success to be among the very best of its kind. Since it is my observation that most of the women who I work with tend to sabotage their own chances for happiness and success, I will be recommending it as a "Must Read" for all of my clients. If you want to improve your life in any way, this book will help you discover what's holding you back...and what you can do to grow.

George Foreman's Guide to Life: How to Get Up Off the CanvasReview Date: 2003-03-22
Short book that has a lot to offer!Review Date: 2003-06-25
with Linda Kulman is a short book (124 pages) that surprised me in
all that it had to offer.
I wasn't expected much from it, given that Foreman on the surface
wouldn't seem to be the ideal
role model to write a self-help book . . . he
was a bully, of sorts, when a kid . . . he didn't read his first
whole
book until the age of 16 . . . and he was married and
divorced four times, only to find his fifth time to be the charm.
Furthermore,
after he lost the heavyweight title for the first time,
he became a recluse of sorts . . . he also had a reputation for
being
surly and mean-tempered, as unlikely as it now seems
when you see him pitching products on TV or doing boxing
commentary
on HBO.
But Foreman has really turned his life around, and he shows you
how you can do the same . . . though much of
the advice is basic,
and you may have heard it before, his effective use of examples
helps to drive many of his key
points home . . . as he notes in
the Introduction, "Everyone in life goes through a hard time
sometime, but you can't
let that define who you are. What defines
you is how you come back from those troubles and what you find
in life to
smile about."
There were several other memorable passages; among them:
With life there is pain and still more pain, but
even with it all,
there is always a reason to smile: a beat of music to make you
lift your feet and dance; a piece
of chocolate to sweeten up
a moment. With death, as far as we know, there is no pain,
only silence.
The point is I
could forgive a horse for biting me, another for
almost killing me. But it seems that people can rub us the
wrong way
and we're through with them overnight. We can
forgive an animal and hold on to a grudge for years against
another person.
People
only want to hear the best about their children. That's
because every mom and dad feels their child is an extension
of
themselves. So pointing out their kid's shortcomings-whether
they're physical, emotional, or behavioral-hurts because it
feels
like it's a reflection on them and their success as a parent.
As soon as you say something's wrong with that boy or girl,
their
mother or father starts a conversation inside their head that goes
something like, "If only I were better at this
or if only I had done
that, my child wouldn't have this problem." It doesn't really matter
what you say or that you
meant well; what they hear is, "What's
the matter with you? Couldn't you have done a better job?"

Get Hired Now!Review Date: 2005-05-11
That's where C.J. Hayden and Frank Traditi's best-selling book, Get Hired Now!TM (Bay Tree Publishing, 2005), gives you a complete job search system for the job seeker in any field. This book contains a twenty-eight day programme for coaching yourself to job search success. It has everything you need to strengthen your job search, make the best use of your time and energy, stay motivated in the face of rejection, and land the job you want.
I like the Book's practical and systematic approach to the process of job search, obtaining interviews, and getting hired. Its strategies, daily action items, and checklists keep the job seeker focused on reaching the objective in the shortest time and using the most effective techniques. This programme is especially effective where a coach facilitates the programme with a group of job seekers. The coach provides professional assistance in dealing with blocks and obstacles, handling challenges and brainstorming solutions, support during bad times, and celebrating with job seekers when they succeed.
Surveys estimate that seventy-four to eighty-five percent of available jobs are never ever advertised. Yet most job seekers only apply for the fifteen percent of jobs that are advertised. This creates intense competition amongst these job seekers for a limited number of advertised positions, whereas savvy job seekers are able to position themselves to choose the employers and secure the jobs they desire amongst the eighty-five percent of jobs not advertised, with no competitive pressures to worry about.
In reading through the Book, I was struck by how much the job search process resembled that of prospecting for business with potential clients. Job-hunting is approached the same as that of sales. Potential employers are treated as if they are potential clients. In one job search, a job seeker targeted six companies. He contacted all of them and called them many times until he got an interview and a job with one of them.
The Book is divided into two parts. Part One covers the Get Hired Now!TM system. This system breaks down the job search process into a series of simple steps so you will know exactly where and how to start finding a job today. It organises the steps into a proven system built around three powerful elements: effective job search approaches, an action-oriented, twenty-eight day programme, and suggestions for managing the fear, resistance, and procrastination that may hinder your job search. The programme shows you how all the pieces of the job search puzzle fit together, what to do, when to do it, and how to measure your results.
The Book goes into detail about the different job search approaches, from networking and referral building, contacting potential employers, informational interviewing, employing recruiters and agencies, searching specialises job listings, and finally using help wanted advertisements.
Part Two of the book contains instructions for preparing your chosen success ingredients, as well as job search "recipes" to help you apply the approaches specified in your action plan. This part elaborates on the job search pyramid, starting from knowing what you want, finding opportunities and contacts, applying to employers, getting interviews, and landing the job.
"To be successful at your job search you must free your fears about asking for what you want. Look at this time in your life as a window of opportunity. It could very well be the chance of a lifetime to find the ideal job. If you start your job search off on the right foot, stay organised, and sustain a positive attitude even when things appear bleak, your persistence will pay off." That's how Hayden and Traditi concluded the Get Hired Now!TM book.
In writing Get Hired Now!TM, Hayden and Traditi have done a great service in advancing job-seekers interests by sharing a wealth of secrets for getting the job you really want with the talent you already have.

Simple & straightforward explanations of financial subjectsReview Date: 2004-04-24
My wife and I have used our copy to guide us through many choices - budgeting, saving, insurance, retirement planning, homebuying - with great success. It has saved us when times were tough and has enabled us to do the things we want without sinking into debt. For a regular middle-class couple, we feel very well off just because we understand our own finances well.
In fact, I regularly give this book as a gift to friends (and their graduation-age kids) as a way to help them avoid some of the mistakes I made before I got this book. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's quite true.

if you want to get in touch with your inner Wild Woman instead of your inner child,
if you seek empowerment from within and ways to achieve it,
if you are seeking spells that will help you with the problems you encounter in the modern office,
then this is the book for you.
Filled with a sense of empowerment and whimsy, this book will inspire and amuse at the same time. Each chapter covers a day of the week and provides advice on the energy of the day, colors and fragrances to wear and surround yourself with, crystals, stones, and herbs to have with you, and a special Goddess for each day and its energy. Included throughout the book are spells to promote cooperation and solidarity, protect or recover property, receive raises or promotions, promote or prevent office romance, ward off sexual harrassment, and for many other common office situations. Although written for women, this will be enjoyed by any male who seeks harmony with the Goddess and her energies in his life.
A fun, useful book for the working WiccanReview Date: 2004-03-31
Z. Budapest manages to pack a lot in her fun, tiny book. She starts by describing her image of the Wild Woman, a preverbal creature who howls, moans, grumbles and purrs, and who makes us fall in love at inopportune times with inappropriate persons. Wild Woman gets bored at work, and need a place where they feel grounded. Budapest encourages women to create an unobtrusive "power spot" with tiny stones, perhaps a bird's nest, or other precious tiny things where the Wild Woman will feel at home-in other words, creating a tiny bit of beauty and tranquility in one's workplace.
One aspect of "Goddess in the Office" that I particularly appreciated is the extent to which Budapest put me in tune with the energy of each day. I do find that I have a hard time focusing on work when I come in on Mondays, that I do get down to business on Tuesdays, that by Wednesday I'm looking to what I need to do next week, etc. Becoming aware of these energies helps to address the particular challenges that they pose.
The chapters in "Goddess in the Office" are organized by the seven days of the week. Budapest begins each chapter by focusing on the day's energy, contemplating on the meaning behind the day's name (for instance, Moonsday has dreamy, introspective connotations), and the goddess associated with that day. (Continuing with the moon theme, Monday's Goddess is Artemis.) After exploring the symbolic meaning of the day, Budapest then suggests scents, gems, and colors to express the day's energy. I particularly liked her suggesting various colors, depending on the energy that would be needed on a particular day. Each chapter also includes a handful of work-related spells (which don't need to be done on a particular day) and ends meditation exercise (to be done at home) for connecting with one's Wild Woman.
Budapest acknowledges the importance that weekends play in achieving balance in our work lives. While the Saturday and Sunday chapters seem lighter than the workday chapters, they do provide some good ideas for renewing one's energy and getting ready for the next week.
The spells in "Goddess in the Office" are the only one's I've found that specifically address the kinds of challenges that arise at work. Budapest includes spells for computer problems, giving a speech, blessing a project, protecting against sexual harassment, etc. You can follow her suggestions discretely with easily accessible supplies. For instance, the spell for purifying the office involves soaking lemon verbena or a pinch of sea salt in spring water, and scattering the blessed water around the office before co-workers arrive at work.
"Goddess in the Office" isn't Wicca 401, by any stretch of the imagination. You're not going to delve into deep spiritual issues. But you just might have fun! The little line drawings of the naked Wild Woman serve as a great reminder that we cannot ignore our playful selves for too long just because we also have to earn a paycheck.

attention was caught by the title of this book. As a golfer, always in search of improvement, and as a former executive and now teacher in a university management department, this had to be mandatory reading. What I found is a gem! I heartily recommend it to everyone interested in developing and maintaining
successful relationships with others. Numerous books are available for management training, none better than Don McHugh's approach of comparing the game of golf to the qualities of leadership. Golf and the Game of Leadership is a primer for the understanding of management and leadership action. The lessons throughout the book provide the apprentice supervisor and the senior manager a core of knowledge to guide their leadership actions. If you are a "professional practicing manager" or an "enthusiastic amateur," Don McHugh's writings will provide great enjoyment along with clear understanding of the essentials for successful leadership and success in life.

This book does an excellent job of outlining that process in a simple, easy-to-follow, step-by-step approach. The author not only covers all aspects of the hiring process but also reminds us of best practices that we too often (and too easily) forget to ensure success once we bring top players on board.
This book was pertinent and informative. I intend to pass it around to all of the managers on my staff.

I have already given a copy to a friend that owns a small company and has found it a challenge to find and retain good people. If my friend follows the program outlined in the book I am sure he will see the results. One thing I really liked about Adamsky's writing style is that it's light on philosophy and academic drivel and packed solid with the experiences of someone who has obviously been in the trenches.
A boon to job seekers and providers alikeReview Date: 2001-12-03
As an IT professional I have had occasion to be on both sides of the interview desk. This book clarified and reinforced many of the beliefs that I formed from these experiences. However, I derived an even greater benefit from those sections that challenged my preconceptions. Mr. Adamsky's use of logic, examples, and self-deprecating humor helped me to see things from a different viewpoint.
