This book is chock full of meditations for self-healing, no matter what the disease or complaint. The premise of this book is the mind-body connection, that we are ultimately responsible for our own state of health.
Shivani's writing style is easy to read, as if you were chatting comfortably with a good friend. I have tweaked my daily meditation sessions with suggestions found in this book. I wish Amazon sold Shivani Goodman's audio recordings to go along with this book, but this volume is a must-have for those interested in self-healing. You won't be disappointed.

I'd like to recommend this book to anyone seeking to take control of their own health and wellbeing. This book is easy to read, presents facts and research data and provides simple yet effective and practical steps to wholeness. I found this book to be a real joy. Best of all the information it presents will be appreciated by those who follow the "medico-scientific model" OR the "New Age" model. An anecdote: I tried the "5 minute healing technique" for the first time just from the information presented on Ms Goodman's website; my sinus pain was immediately alleviated and disappeared after I did the technique two more times- all within 6 hours !! Many thanks to the Ms Goodman!

This book was an excellent resource in recent interview preparations for a new hire and I will definitely keep it in my collection. I was able to quickly compile ones I thought were applicable and have a handy list for the interview. My only wish is that they made more interview books suited towards public sector jobs. Still I highly recommend it.

I have been interviewing & hiring candidates for several years now, but recently decided to do a little more research into the topic. This book is excellent. It is written in a manner that is easy to open and read at any relevant chapter, making for a quick reference style use or for more in-depth reading if needed. The suggested questions are insightful and the analysis for each question helps you take the candidates answers to the next level. The sections on checking references have also helped me move beyond the paralysis of not knowing what I am legally able to ask, therefore making reference checking the useful tool that it is meant to be.

Paul Falcone worked as the Employment Manager for a very large mortgage company. His 96 questions are a compilation of questions that he gathered over the years that help narrow down a candidate pool. These questions are above and beyond the normal tested legal quidelines, they ask whether a person can do the job as described.
If you are a hiring manager, this will help you to have a template to ask great job related questions. For those organizations who like to have structured interviews, this can be used to pick and choose questions for various managers to help compile a great profile from the interview process. Structuring allows you not to repeat the same questions and shows the candidates that you are careful in your selection process and are interested in getting the best.
If you are a recruiter, manager or even a job seeker wondering what may be asked in an interview, this is a great tool to have in your library.

Falcone offers invaluable advice as to how to "identify high performance candidates, probe beyond superficial answers, spot 'red flags' which indicate evasions or untruths, get references which provide reliable information about candidates, and negotiate job offers which attract winners." The value of this book is perhaps best indicated by the results of research conducted by Bradford D. Smart of more than 4,000 executives in 50 of the "Fortune 500" companies, shared in Topgrading which I have reviewed previously. The results confirm Peter Drucker's assertion that "The ability to make good decisions regarding people represents one of the last reliable sources of competitive advantage, since very few organizations are very good at it." For me, the most stunning revelations in Smart's book are found on page 50, in Figure 3.2, "Cost of Mis-Hire Study Results." According to the results of Smart's extensive research study, the sum of total costs of a mis-hire (on average) are as follows:
Base salary Less than $100,000: 14 times salary
Base Salary $100,000-250,000: 28 times salary
All Salaries: 24 times salary
Sobering statistics indeed. In his book, Falcone includes two recurring sections which define the context within which each of the 96 questions is asked: "Why Ask This Question?" and "Analyzing the Response." He also alerts the reader/interviewer to relevant "Red Flags" which might otherwise be invisible. Books such as this (and it's one of the best) can guide and inform a rigorous process by which to identify those candidates which offer the strongest talent, skills, and (yes) character. I strongly recommend this book to any and all decision-makers and decision-influencers who are involved in their organization's hiring process. But please keep in mind that candidates may have also read this book. For interviewers, it is highly desirable to reveal the person "behind the resume." It is also imperative to obtain "real information" from credible reference persons. My own opinion is that they as well as candidates need to be thoroughly checked out.

From a job seeker perspective, this book has been worth personally more than 2000 times its list price. It is like being able to read the other team's playbook before the championship game! If you are seeking a job in Corporate America, don't go in without reading this book because this book will get you half way there......and in some unfortunate "buzz-word company" cases - all the way. It tells you everything they want to hear and why. Satisfy HR first, and then worry about your potenital new boss. Why waste your money on learning what you could say during an interview from other books. This book truly allows you to switch seats with your interviewer. This book is truly deserving of the yellow cover with black stripes and should be entitled, "Interviewing in Corporate America"

As someone who provides professional leadership development, and motivational strategies, for women, I originally ordered "Beyond Superwoman" as a resource for my work. By the time I was through the first chapeter, I was calling my female colleagues and buying extra copies for my daughters. The wisdom and shared experience in this book speaks to women of all generations. You don't have to be a CEO to recognize the struggles and tough decisions these "superwomen" faced. I've come away with a renewed promise to myself to streamline my own life, prioritize my goals, and to convey that message with more vigor to my clients and audiences.

Beyond Superwoman, is a gift of current wisdom for women and for men. It is an essential glimpse at personal life before, during and after success. It offers a rare and fascinating, explorative conversation with top female CEO's. If this advice had been available to me when I was 13 my life would have been much more productive; I am motivated. The impact of this book can truly improve the world as we are inspired by example to live our lives with focus and good decisions.
I had just finished reading Issacson's, Ben Franklin biography, so impressed with Franklin's networking and multi-dimensional life, when I started Beyond Superwoman. Beyond Superwoman would be in Franklin's library and fortunately it can be in ours. It chronicles some of the most important conversations going on today. Relevant current history to guide us all. I thank the authors for researching and sharing what has not been available before.

Marisa's book teaches and inspires to no end, offering great guidance in developing your news hooks, coaching you on pitches, and showing you how to create and maintain relationships as your career builds momentum. If you are a seasoned sales person/manager who knows the pain of too many Nos or no answer proposals, this is your book. This is a fitting up to date replacement for the New Solution Selling. Marx has been there, dione that and got all the T-shirts,. It is a pure sales book which happily ignores completely the need for nurturing etc. But for pure in the trenches, gut feel selling this is the book. I took a while to read it as the title put me off. But boy was I was mistaken. Marx could have been listening in on many Rocket Builders consults wrto sales and the buyer's journey. He is so bang on. Some insights:
* The salesperson gains power by empowering the buyer.
* Selling is tough but so is buying today.
* Your prospects want to buy, why would you be invited.
* Contracting is essential to set and maintain buyer expectations.
* What is the buyer doing to move the sale forward?
* Use half baked/straw man ideas before you present the maximum idea
* Use progress reports to show how far you have come
* A critical path details where you are going.
* There is no correlation between a rapid turnaround of a proposal and a good sale. None.

I don't hide the fact that I go against the grain in my search to improve procedures and systems to super serve clients while strengthening a company's bottom line. In that quest, a book called, "Close Like The Pros" by Steve Marx, had an impact on me. It's the closest strategy that I have found to date that I totally agree with in terms of real and realistic sales. "Close Like The Pros" is not a sales style, but rather a sales strategy for sales professionals who already understand why and how you should focus on customer needs. The book explains that providing the focus, power, and direction for the sale are important points to make during the sale. Oftentimes, management forces their own sales style on other members of their team and loses focus of the common goals to fill the client's needs while generating revenue for your company.
The book you want your sales staff to read!

It's clear that Steve Marx has a sales training company because he provides a useful resource for the employee-focused manager. Those who live by partnership creation realize that it takes a great deal of work to provide that training and teach that skill to others. As an effective tool for the sales staff you want to educate and inspire, "Close Like the Pros" tells it like it is with clear, easy-to-follow examples. The book also includes easy and precise "how-to's" and encourages the exploration of the sales process in steps that permit growth. For the sales person who welcomes the opportunity to become even better, and for the manager who would appreciate an effective format for addressing the subject with new life, "Close Like the Pros" sets the stage for discussion in an active and energetic manner. I don't think there's any doubt that interactive selling is effective - "Close Like the Pros" will boost your own enthusiasm and renew your skills, whether you manage a staff of sales individuals or sell directly yourself. I've heard it said that 90% of all jobs are sales in one way or another. This book benefits people in every field because the ability to interact, to sell our product, or ourselves, is part of life as we know it.

Mark Bryan is my husband's cousin. I saw him on Oprah talking about his book and had to get it. However, it was out of stock. Mark sent me an autographed copy and I read it in a day. It was so helpful to me to learn to deal with some members of my own family, but more importantly with my husband's family. Now that I have the truth on where my husband "comes from", it is easier for me to understand how and why he thinks the way he does...that also goes for the rest of his immediate family. I am going to have my husband read this to help him work out his problems with his parents.
It was very touching and loving to hear about the extended family that I have not ever met. Jim and Mark's grandmother, Minnie, was an exceptional woman, and I can relate to her in many ways. I admire Mark for all he has done and for all he has accomplished.
He has been so supportive of us, but this book has really "tied the loose ends up" for me. The exercises at the end of each chapter are really thought provoking. I began to remember memories that I would have thought that I had forgotten forever. It is nice to know that they are there, and now I can incorporate them in with the "bad" so that the "bad" isn't that horrible. I feel that I have grown and matured, and am ready to Re-Frame and Remake my life. He is right...you can go home again.

This is a great read for anyone having a family or coming to terms with family problems. Bryan came from a disfunctional family and spent a decade of his life blaming his family for the letdowns in his life. Once he saw his family was not the problem and he was, he came to terms with his family and decided to become a member of the family again. This book mainly focused on the interaction between children and their parents, but it can be used with other relationships. This is a great read for any of us who have problems with their family, because it councils us in how to behave in the proper manner. As Bryan himself also states, he even has to work on how to see his family in the proper light. This gives great insight into family dynamics, and is useful reading for anyone.
I plan on using some of Mark's principles with my family. Family matters, and as Mark show, some of us have some pretty heavy baggage. Losing the baggage is a first step in coming to terms with your family. Good read and great advice.

Re-enter your family and find your own true loving nature with Codes of Love by Mark Bryan. Mark uses his own family life and the diverse lives of many clients and friends to help you change your personal family recipes from leftovers to exciting new meals that are deeply nurturing, satisfying and actually possible to enjoy.
Mark's carfully prepared program merges passion with persistence in order for you to digest your past and emerge in the present with new compassion for yourself and the other members of your family.
I personally used Codes of Love to graft into my being Mark's substantial experience in mending families. With Mark's vision by my side, I was able to find the courage, humor and new ways of viewing my past in order to enjoy and reconnect with my precious parents. I had been completely separate from my father (I thought) and almost totally separate from my mother for over twenty years. Mark showed me that they were actually never far from my heart or my mind.
During those twenty years Mark Bryan's wisdom paid various visits to my creative awareness through his books and through a one afternoon seminar in San Francisco. In book form, Mark Bryan and Julia Cameron came into my life first with the amazing Artist's Way and then with the profoundly transformative Artist's Way at Work. In the fall of 2002 my domestic partner came home with Codes of Love for me to use and hopefully help me find a better way to understand and forgive my family and myself.
Mark and his powerful books have brought me back into a full and loving contact with the only parents that I will ever have. Using Mark's words and work to reconnect with my parents has also set me free to engage in my own projects with more confidence, determination and respect for myself.
I sincerely hope that you can also use Codes of Love to further understand your past, free yourself in the present and rejoin your primal pack.
My parents are 80 and 81 and I also have a niece and nephew who are 10 and 13 -- we all needed to come together as an interactive and loving family before it was too late. Mark Bryan and Codes of Love were the ticket that eventually helped us to create the healing, to let go and to make merriment again with each other.
Working with the principles and exercises in Codes of Love gives us the capacity to strengthen our connections with ourselves, our partners, our families and with our worldwide families as well.

I received this book as a gift and it really helped me to see that I was interpretting things my family was saying and doing in a defensive and distorted way. This book has helped to re-examine these things and accept that my family loves me and just wants what is best. I have also tried to stop controlling family members, which has been something I was told and never believed until now. Hats off the the author for writing this insighful book!

This book is so good I keep ordering them for my friends. I read it last year and am re-reading it this year. It's written to read one page each day of the year. Talk about starting my day off on the right foot! It really helps me to start off my day focused on good things. The rest of my day just naturally goes smooth. It's spiritual, funny, and sometimes deep. But it always leaves me feeling warm.

This book is a daily read filled with inspirational
anecdotes which highlight how practical the ideas are
and how they might be applied to everyday situations.
More than that, it reminds the reader of his power and
purpose to create the life he/she desires. I never fail
to be amazed by the timelines of each days entry. I
recommend this book without reservations.

This is basically a calender-a date on each page followed by an inspiring quote, a short page long (or less) essay/parable/real life story, a short prayer and an affirmation-rendering this book super-easy to read no matter how super-busy you are.
Although God and Jesus are referenced many times in this, and his other-Dare to be Yourself book, it shouldn't affect the healing these books are offering-anyone could read them-it's a live and let live deal.
You may want to keep some highlighter pens on hand. Good stuff.

Tony has created a book that brings the harsh reality of our employment morality to light. Unfortunate truths of our "career" paths, but a beautiful painting of an otherwise possible grim reality. His book brings not only the hurdles of what we must overcome to our attention, but reminds that once we have accepted our roles-as-is, we have unintentionally become defeated. I recommend to all people who think they are "set."

In those years, I saw Tony literally change lives with his hard-hitting and heartfelt philosophy. He's the real deal. A person who makes you feel proud to be a part of the human race.
Read the book - then read it again. It will change the way you perceive yourself and our workplace.
As usual, Tony, you've outdone yourself.

P. Anthony Burnham, Esq., prepares readers for the harsh reality that they may only be temporarily employed in today's "permanently changed workplace." Mr. Burnham stresses that successful leaders are self-managing and achieve results through an empowered workforce. Being a successful manager in this complex world requires innovative thinking combined with synthesis to shift employee paradigms. Learning is an ever-changing, continuous process. Mr. Burnham does a great job of identifying some of these paradigms through a case study of past, present, and future workplace changes. He emphasizes the importance of having the ability to create human value within a firm through identifying and communicating a workers worth on demand. He also stresses that creating a personal business plan for your future employment will help to achieve your goals. As a recent graduate from a masters program, this book has helped me prepare to become successfully "employed for life." Thank you Mr. Burnham!

Tony Burnham captured the essence of today's corporate employment landscape and put it into a concise and easy to read handbook. He outlines what hiring managers are looking for and how to clearly define and state your value proposition to them. I used the book as a guide during the interview process for a new position at my current Fortune 100 company. Needless to say, it worked and I would highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to invest in their own future growth.

This was my first wine book, and it is still the best beginner's reference. It covers everything you need to get started. The real benefit, however, is the audio format. You actually get to hear the narrator (who is fantastic!) pronounce the names of the various grape varieties, wines and terms. This is a huge benefit and something that cannot be replicated in the written word.

A good etiquette book should sit on every professional's bookshelf alongside "how to win friends" and "7 habits." I purchased this book along with Essential Etiquette Fundamentals, Vol. 1: Dining Etiquette and The Etiquette Edge: The Unspoken Rules for Business Success to cover all the bases. These books do an excellent job covering the important etiquette skills often overlooked in today's environment. Although often underappreciated, exhibiting proper etiquette signals to others (especially your boss and clients) that you are well educated, care about detail, and have respect for others. I highly recommend these books for anyone new to the business world or for those of us who may need to brush up on the basics.

Although drinking good wine isn't difficult, learning about wine can be. Once on a winery tour a vintner explained that there are 15,000 different choices that can be made from grape to bottle. Sometimes picking out a wine can seem daunting. Food Scholar's Wine Selection & Etiquette does a superior job of teaching those of us who would like to learn more without the information being overkill.
While there are more comprehensive books out there on Wine, I really like this book because it excels at being written for the average person. The book is divided into logical sections. I also like that the effect of climates in a region on the grape are covered. This is an easy way to tell what kind of wine you are getting just by looking at where the grape was grown.
This book will enhance your knowledge as well as your ability to pick out wines that you and your guests may enjoy. I would highly recommend this book to those who want to learn about wine, as this book does an excellent job of giving a basic education about many of the wines of the world.

Robert Bell's creation of Banana Boat, relaunch of Sea & Ski, development of Sun Pill and ongoing commitment to overall Sun Health make him one of America's most formidable entrepreneurs. You'll find yourself cheering Robert on as he finds a way to bridle all his youthful, deviant energy into the great success story that he is today. The itemized success principles at the end of the book are an added bonus to an already engaging & important business guide.
