Board Games Books

This book is a valuable resource! There is enough variety in the types of activities to keep kids entertained whatever their age. This is a great book to take in the car and I use it on campouts with the Boy Scouts. I have a copy of this book, but last time we put it away it got wet. Now, I'm buying a replacement. My kids and I just can't live without it!

The concept of luck and lotteries is explored in Loteria! with special insights on its popularity and effects in Mexican culture. Writer Ilan Stavans discusses La Loteria experiences from his Mexico City childhood, using riddles and cards to explain the ritual of chance in both Spanish and English text, while artist Teresa Villegas provides the colorful embellishments. An intriguing presentation indeed.

This puzzle book should be on every child's bookshelf. The chosen pictures are a great selection of Escher's work. The book is sturdy and the idea to create room for the puzzlepieces to be stored inside is marvelous. It is a great way to introduce Art to children and I hope to see more books of the same kind.

This book was given to my 3 year old as a gift in August. By October, he had learned how to recognize ALL of his letters. He can look at any word in the book and spell out the letters. He can now spell apple without any help and without looking at the book. This is an excellent learning tool for toddlers. I am now looking for one to use for his numbers.

This is the cutest book. All of the little game pieces are reusable and fit into a small pocket on the last page. This would be a great toy to bring on a trip- light, easy to pack and fun. Every page has a different game and they are all relatively easy to play. My son really enjoys playing every game fron the first to last page and they are go pretty quickly. Great gift too:)

The book is challenging and good for all ages, including adults. This is a great book for travel, classrooms, bathrooms, medical offices, social services, etc. The graphics are absolutely amazing! What a great gift to Marvel fans for the upcoming holiday season!!! I'm getting autographed copies for my friends and family.

This is my 1 yr old son's favorite book! He loves to listen to the story and then "drive the bus away". He especially enjoys the alphabet and counting to 10. Amazon rates the reading level for ages 4-10 yrs, however, younger children will enjoy the shapes, colors and interactive story.

My two-year-old train-loving son adores this book. The illustrations cleverly make use of the book's train shape and the real wheels on each page. The rhyming verses are fun to read (except that one page doesn't scan well and it took a few tries to get the rhythm right)and they are now so stuck in my memory that I can recite the entire book without looking at it. My son spins the wheels every time the verse talks about trains rolling and wheels turning, and helps with the sound effects as well. After we read the book, he pushes it around on its little wheels and gets several more minutes of fun.
My five-year-old daughter, not a train lover, also enjoys the book because of the rhyming verses, the cute animals, and the fact that the train is going to Hoboken, where we used to live.

The chess player is introduced to a tactic that will knock your socks off. I just spent a week getting through the introduction and learning what this tactic is all about and I was in complete awe of what this tactic can really do for you! It's the type of thing you may not have to use the majority of the time, but just knowing how it works may come through for you just when you thought you had no other hope. If you like jaw-dropping surprises I highly recommend you make this book part of your arsenal!
(August 25, 2005) The really great thing (and even more practical) thing about this book is it's bonus. The last quarter of book deals with a tactic call the single bishop mate. It shows a pattern that you'll have to recognize (it's more likely to come up in a late middle game or endgame). The 2 themes addressed there (Cordes' and Troitzky's) will help you understand it very well as Charushin trains you. This too is one of those things that's very nice to know if you ever come across it in a game, especially in a tournament. Learn it!!!
