The third book in the Vicky Bliss series, this book unites Vicky and John with her old flame, Tony, and her boss, Schmidt, in the search for the lost gold of Troy.

This novel is excellent- it brings back the character of Tony from the first Vicky novel, and adds to the mix other historians. The suspense is great, and the relationship between Vicky and John reaches a new level.

This is an awesome book!

This is the book that I pick up whenever I need comfort. It's such a treat - funny with fabulous characters that you'll wish were part of your life. I've read this book many times and for ages, every time I started it again, I'd forget who the villain was. The mystery is fascinating with history and art mixed in and enough action and intrigue to keep you going. As good as the mystery is, it's the wonderful characters and their friendships and humorous carryings on that makes the story sing. And there's a fabulous romance to boot. Get ready to fall in love with the mysterious John Smithe!

If you like to read fiction set in the places you vacation, this would be a great book to take with you on a trip to southern Germany at Christmas time.

Art historian Vicky Bliss has been sent an interesting photo, a photo that at first appears to be the famous shot of Frau Schliemann wearing the gold jewelry from Troy. A second look shows Vicky that this is not yet another copy of that photo but a much more recent shot. The problem with that is that the treasure had disappeared during WWII. Soon Vicky was on the trail, accompanied by her boss, Schmidt, several of her collegues (returning from a previous adventure) and the mysterious John Smith.

This is an light hearted action adventure. The characters are well done, particularly the principals (Vicky, John and Schmidt) much of the situations and dialogue is hilarious.

The only complaints that I have are there are many German terms used with little translation - frustrating for those of us who don't know the language. The other issue is that this is definitely one of those series that needs to be read in order not starting with this the 4th installment (as I did).

I've read all the Vicky Bliss novels, and I can only say I wish Elizabeth Peters would write more. She has such a humorous touch with these novels that the characters are not only believeable, they're a downright likeable bunch. I like the way Peters uses humor to propel the story along, and the exchanges between Vicky and her sometimes lover, John Smythe, are hilarious. But don't leave out her boss, Herr Doktor Schmidt, who is a remarkably innocent man for one of his advanced years, and a wonderful co-conspirator (even if he does have a tendency to view desperate situations as some sort of wonderful adventure). For fans of this series, I heartily recommend this book, since it's about time that Vicki and John come clean about their feelings for one another. The avalanche scene is a real nailbiter, and in keeping with the adventure! Don't miss this one!

Vicky Bliss is a beautiful buxom art historian, located in Germany, who would prefer to be taken seriously for her brains rather than her looks. In this entry, she receives a photo of a woman wearing the golden jewels that had disappeared during the Nazi reign in Germany known as the Trojan Gold. To make it interesting, however, it is not a photograph of the original finder's wife, Frau Schliemann, as Vicky first supposes, but a modern photograph, meaning the gold has been found.

Vicky figures out who has the gold and races with her boss Schmidt to a small ski resort town, also in Germany, to find the gold. Meeting here there are several other art historians with whom she had attended an art conference the previous year as well as, of course, her sometimes boyfriend, Sir John Smythe.

The action is fast paced enough to keep the book interesting while the romance between Vicki and John reaches new levels. And, making this a perfect mystery read, there is plenty of humor as well. This is an excellently written mystery with suspects to choose from and clues to help along the way.

I have already purchased the fifth and, at least until now, last of the Vicky Bliss series. I certainly wish that Elizabeth Peters would write a new one!

I took the Microsoft exam 70-216 for network infrastructure today and all I can say is AMAZING! How did the writers know what was on the exam? There is so much obscure stuff on the exam that no other book I read covered the questons on the exam. But this one did. So much of the test was troubleshooting the network, so I guess a TCP/IP troubleshooting book would be the right one. But the similarity of this book to the test is amazing.

This book was good to read too and I am using it at my job and fixing some of the problems we've had with WINS and VPN based on what I learned. Great book and best study guide for the test.

This book is heads and tails above any other TCP/IP book I've read or own. Finally understand how DNS works, the RAS section helped me put together my Win2k VPN. Get this is you wnat to understand some of the weird stuff in Win2k TCP/IP.

We are in the process of moving from NT to Win2k and my boss made me the project manager. I had to get on top of Win2k networking fast. I bought this book on the recommendation of several of my co workers. Glad I got it. The book is informative and detailed in explanations and examples. A must have for the busy guy like me.

OK, I admit it. I learned my TCP/IP for Windows NT exams from reading Exam Cram. Needless to say, I passed the Windows NT TCP/IP test, but couldn't tell a subnet from a supernet. Now I have a job in the industry and I needed to actually learn TCP/IP, especially since we are moving up to Windows 2000 in our shop.

This book is unreal in how good things are explained. Great detail in describing RRAS, WINS, DNS, and the TCP stack. Using the information in the book I am now up to speed on TCP/IP. Enough to pass the 70-216 test! Not bad for a NT MCSE!

For Real, this book helped a lot. I owe the author's a beer on this one.

This book is fresh air to someone like myself who has read at least a dozen Windows 2000 books. I get the impression that a lot of the Windows 2000 books were written by people who write books and don't work with the technology. This book doesn't fall into that class. It was great to read this book, because it renewed my faith that a tech book could be written in a way that doesn't put me to sleep.

They cover Windows 2000 TCP/IP from top to bottom. WINS, DNS, DHCP, RRAS, IIS, routing and network devices. Its all there, and its filled with little known factoids that makes me want to keep reading and have another "aha!" experience.

This book also was the major reason I passed the Microsoft 216 exam so easily. Although I didn't buy it to pass the exam, they seem to cover all the material that the exam covered. A nice bonus. I wish they made the book longer, because I'm sure they could have said a lot more that I would like to read about.

This book isn't for beginners, but neither is Windows 2000. I think once the reader is ready to manage Windows 2000, they'll be ready to get the most out of this exceptional book.

A very conveniently sized book that can be easily put into your pocket and places two of our country's most important documents within easy reach. I teach ESOL and I buy multiple copies so I can make sure that all my students can have a copy as they will hopefully begin studying for their US citizenship. Not only are the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence in this book but also little known facts of our founding fathers, notes on famous Supreme Court decisions, Articles of Confederation, etc.

A very interesting little book to understand the foundation of the first and greatest democracy in the world

You can't really write a review about the Constitution! But I can tell you that this little book is not too difficult on the eyes, easy to use and simple for carrying to class. It doesn't weigh much in a pocket or a backpack, and this is the version I've used throughout my grad-school days. And after several years of thumbing through it, the book still hasn't fallen apart!

An easy read for quickly boning up on your U.S. constitution and a great reference document for future use. I'd recommend having it in your collection of books.

This is a great book. It covers the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation and the US Constitution as well as an abundance of interesting facts about the Framers of the Constitution.

The book is compact and students can easily carry it with them everywhere they go. This book is also very affordable.

There is a problem with this book's binding though. The book tends to come apart. The book's good for students, but since the Constitution is so important, I would give students a hardback when they graduate which they can have in their personal library for the rest of their lives.

Paul Hill has all the necessary credentials to write a book like this. Despite the fact that his employer, NASA, kept his interest in UFOs unofficial, he has come to interesting and well supported conclusions. The objects are real. Official disinterest in studying them and the associated ridicule are also real. He had seen UFOs himself and accepted the evidence at face value. He also makes mention of his work for a company called A.V. Roe in Canada and there is a photo of test pilots for a project he claims went nowhere. See Flying Saucer Aircraft by Rose for the connection. That project did, in fact, go somewhere.

The idea that such advanced aircraft are beyond the capability of manufacture on Earth may not be true. Also, reported abductions by 'aliens' may be part of a larger cover up as well. Perhaps this is why 20 years have elapsed since the time of writing and publication. Only recently, via an article in Popular Mechanics, have people learned about America's Nuclear Flying Saucer (actually, semi-circular). The atomic aircraft was also a program that had, reportedly, gone nowhere.

And Mr. Hill tells us that we are looking at the speed of light in regard to space travel all wrong. I recommend this book highly as a cogent and worthwhile addition to the library for those looking for good answers to this subject.

I didn't really buy this book with any expectations. and I'm not really a UFO buff but I do have an open mind about such things. When I received this book, I read it cover to cover and didn't take my hands off of it. This book, hands down, has the best explanation of the mathematics behind Relitivity, using the Lorentz Transformation, of any book I have read. After reading this book and absorbing the math, the reader will understand that interstallar travel is easily possible from the travelers reference time frame. I rate this book 5 stars and might buy another one because the one I have is starting to wear out.

I found that this is one of the best books about UFO subject from a scientific point of view.

A very good exposition for all the scientifically minded sympathetic skeptics (like me). I've enjoyed every part of this very entertaining book. However I would like to mention just a couple of points, for the sake of completeness. Mr. Hill's concept of 'effective' speed is an interesting one and quite valid for CONSTANT SHIP VELOCITY. However across pages 387-388 he makes the erroneous statement that "...all physical laws properly formulated hold good in ALL REFERENCE FRAMES." in paraphrasing Einstein. This should of course read "...ALL INERTIAL FRAMES." An accelerating space ship does NOT constitute an inertial frame of reference, hence the condition that the speed of light remain invariant in all inertial frames, does not generally hold. In fact in a non-inertial frame the value of the speed of light is C`a = C*(1+(a*cos r)/(2C*C)), where C is the usual value of the speed of light in an inertial frame and C`a is the speed of light determined in an accelerating frame. If you substitute C`a for C in Equation A5-12a you get the correct expression. This only affects the accelerated portions of the spaceship's trip. I've checked the effective speed during the constant velocity coasting and it seems to be a valid proposal.

Book like this one are a blessing, you can not miss it if you are getting serious in Ufology, only w/ all the technical juice in force field and suchs is enough to say than UFO technology is not a fantasy or scien-fiction theme as Big Brother want you to believe,(please read UFO and no ETs) is very real and a very well guarded secret, and "THEY" (the identity of this close circle of persons within the establisment is matter for a very good Tom Clancy's book), are so scare by the fact of his public disclosure, is in the word of GOD the true will prevail, sooner or later, I found "Revelations.." of Jacques Vallee a very nice complement for this book, mostly in the sensitive issue of media disinformation and distortion of this phenomena.

Glenn Harold's voice is hypnotic and relaxing to listen to.

The echoes, music and other special effects used in this cd really helps, by the next day I catch myself restating the affirmations in my mind.

(I'll be purchasing more of Glenn Ford's hypnosis!)

These CD's are an easy listen filled with wonderfully phrased, motivational words. Glenn's Australian accent is a pleasure to listen to. Places on the CD have music as well that accompanies the voice. I LOVE these CD's and own most of them. If you live in the states you may hear an occassional terminology that is not common in the U.S. (Example, in the weight series he uses a weight measurement of a 'stone' which is a British term that represents 14 pounds). This happen rarely and certainly does not detract from the message presented in any of Glenn's CD's. You can't really listen to these in the car as they are a little hypnotic so be sure you are in a stress free mind set and location when you listen to any of therse CD's. I felt they were worth every penny.

His voice an proper grammar have taken a while for me to get used to without smiling. By the second track I am often out. Whether my life is changing I will have to keep you all posted.

I own several of Glenn Harrold's CDs. I've tried many other relaxation/hypnosis products over the years and Glenn Harrold's are by far-and-away the best I've heard. As many of the other reviews have pointed out, the production values on these CDs are extraordinary, but that's not what makes them special. What makes these CDs special is how good they leave you FEELING.

Many of the other hypnosis recordings I've tried would either put me to sleep half of the time or just feel like a chore to listen to. Glenn Harrold's CDs actually make for a very enjoyable and pleasant listening experience. And regardless of how I felt before hand, I'm always left feeling refreshed, serene and on an "even keel".

If you're looking to purchase just one hypnosis title, make it one of Glenn Harrold's. You will not be disappointed.

I've only recently discovered the work of Glenn Harold. This is one of his most popular CDs and there is a good reason why. I like this CD mainly because there is no b.s. like on so many others. Everything is straight to the point, first you relax, then some positive affirmations are suggested to your unconscious mind which has to absorb them and start executing. One drawback is that I find he speaks a little too fast and leaves no time for the material to sink in. Perhaps if the pace was a bit slower, I would've given this CD five stars. Overall, good starting point for hypnosis exploration.

My wife and I love to go on factory tours and visit company museums when we travel. It's corny, I know, but fun. This book gives wonderful examples of some of the best tours and museums around. Whenever we're going on a road trip, we always consult Watch It Made in the U.S.A.: A Visitor's Guide to the Best Factory Tours and Company Museums (Watch It Made in the USA) to help us decide where we might like to go. I would very much recommend it for families with young kids who might enjoy such tours, and probably retirees who have the time and interest for them, as well.

This is an excellent book for anyone who is interested in things made in the USA. It gives a nice description of the facilities, locations, tour times, cost and lengths, age appropriateness, and phone numbers.
We like to travel the country and will use the information to plan our trips. The book is well organized and very helpful.

and after watching many episodes of "How do they do it",
and "How it's made" on discovery Channel.
I started to look for extra resources for a better understanding on these "behind the scenes" mysteries.
Then, I found this book.
And this book is a real treasure!
The book is well organized,
It provides many detail information about the factory tours,
and the brief background of the companies.

Thanks to this book,
now I have some itineraries in mind.
I plan to visit KitchenAid's factory in the near future for my mom.
(My family is in Taiwan)
She is a big fan of KitchenAid mixer. ha.
I will also visit Airstream company as well,
Owning a travel trailer is my dream, and I want to know how it is made,
And I will be more determined to realize this dream!
Maybe one day I will write a similar book "Watch it made in Taiwan" in a mobile trailer office. Who knows?!

Great book, I did not know that a book like this existed. Will definitly come in handy when planning trips. Checked information on places we have already been and information was accurate.

I'm planning to take my two teenagers cross country this summer and this is a GREAT book for finding interesting places to show them. It has excellent maps, clear directions, and well-written descriptions of what you will (and won't) see so I can figure out what sites will best entertain the different family members. I only wish we had time to see more of the places they describe. It even tells you what other nearby attractions there are. Kudos to the authors!

Nothing mattered anymore, my grades went down, i didn't care about life, i wanted to die. so i attempted suicide, my wrist is scarred and mutated, everyone said i was insane. then i heard from the family circle magazine about this book, and i swear this has helped me, and i'm so glad that not everyone thinks depressed teens are insane or stupid. and i'm glad there are people like lisa hurka covington that are talking to teens how valuable life is, and helping them sort out their problems.

This book combines compassion and empowerment with accurate information.

The author, a cousin of singer Curt Cobain, wrote this book to help make sense of her cousin's suicide. It is readable, knowledgeable and thorough. It helps adolescents understand what they might be feeling when they are depressed. It discusses how to interrupt the downward spiral and find a way out. The book covers both social and biological aspects of depression.

I felt that the author had a good intuitive grasp for how an adolescent might feel when he was in the depths of a depression. She reflects back the sense of isolation and hopelessness so that a depressed person feels understood. She provides information on how to get help when you don't feel that anyone out there is trustworthy.

She empowers teens by providing good information about the causes of depression and well as the treatments. For those who want more detailed information, she provides a resource list. I especially liked her section on how to stay healthy once you have recovered from the initial depression.

I have recommended this book to several teens. They felt that it made sense and was helpful

This tome is organized extremely well; one can start at the beginning or jump directly into any chapter. The background information is helpful and lucid for parents and the stories from the teens themselves tells it like it is but at the same time gives hope and tells of "the light at the end of the tunnel" for depressed teens, that things do get better. Highly recommended!

In When Nothing Matters Anymore, Bev Cobain offers a teen-friendly reference guide to adolescent depression, complete with self-help suggestions, counseling resources, and case studies of teens who sought help for their illness and now lead "normal" adolescent lives. Cobain is a credentialed author: a certified registered nurse, a mental health professional, and a recipient of the National Mental Health Association's Green Ribbon Award for efforts on behalf of teen depression awareness; however, the book reads like Cliff's Notes of a more comprehensive text - as if Cobain simply compiled the bullet-point lists, sidebars, and quick-reference statistics from an American Psychiatric Association web listing for teen depression. When Nothing Matters Anymore relies little on Cobain's personal observations and extensive experience, and too much on peppy, inspirational messages from its case study teens.

The book is structured in two parts: What's Wrong? and Getting Help and Staying Well. What's Wrong? is primarily diagnostic, providing a checklist for the reader to determine whether he or she is depressed, explaining the varieties and causes of depression, and outlining the correlations between depression and chronic illness, sexual abuse, sexual identity, drug use and addiction, eating disorders, and "perceived differences" from peers. Getting Help and Staying Well highlights treatment options, suggests ways to seek help from family or trusted adults, and lists self-help activities for readers undergoing treatment. Both sections include "Survival Tips" that a health professional might suggest to any teen: Get Exercise, Have Fun, Eat Good Food, etc. There are some practical suggestions, like journaling and creating mood charts, and there is a chapter dedicated to the important topic of teen suicide, but the book as a whole rarely digs below the surface of the illness and underestimates its audience's desire (and perhaps ability?) to understand depression more fully.

One aspect of the book that seems borderline inappropriate is Cobain's ad nauseam referencing of her cousin Kurt, the popular lead singer of grunge band Nirvana, whose suicide shocked the MTV youth culture in 1994. Perhaps this approach is an effective way of securing "street cred" amongst teen readers, but this hook feels opportunistic at times, particularly in "A Letter to Kurt Cobain," a three-page, sappy, metaphor-heavy eulogy in which Cobain rues that Kurt's handlers wouldn't give her the access that could have prevented his suicide. I understand the intent is to show the readers that she cared for someone they cared about and saw the beauty of his music and the tragedy of his death as they did, but to a non-teen reader, it rings hollow. Had Cobain been close with Kurt, a reader might not bawk at this inclusion, but she mentions that she did not know Kurt "personally," a fact that makes the multiple, casual mentions feel like name-dropping.

For the last year or so I had a few questions for myself. Why am I here? Whats my pourpose in life? Cant I just be dead? Dang do I wish I could give my life for some one else. This is really good book for any teen...

Not only is the author a good writer, it has a lot of good examples of other peoples life situations so you can auctly say "wow someone can really relate to my struggle".

It is a very good dog training book. It explains things in a way that is very easily understood and gives you different ideas as to what a reward can be, ie that a dog that likes to sniff a lot you can use this behavior when training, as a reward. It breaks the training down into small pieces that is easy to follow. I have recommended this book to a few of my friends and they are also using it to train.

Bought this cuz I loved the title. Has some really good ideas and helped in many ways.

I have a pigs fly dog- and most of my training successes have been because of suggestions in this book! I disagree with a previous review that stated it was "old" material and "agility tricks"- it is a book that provides NEW methods to increase the bond with your dog while training; to help get a more focused dog; and most importantly how to have FUN while training your 'difficult' dog. I can't recommend this book enough to EVERYONE who has a dog they want to build a stronger working relationship with- Pigs fly or not!

well better in english than danish-I guess: One of the best clicker-instruction books i`ve read so far( which is some). especially because it gives hope to all dogowners with "impossible" dogs. it is well written, funny and with a lot aha-experiencies.

This book is aces! The author gives her own approach to training, which is solidly based on contemporary techniques. She goes into much detail about how to clicker-train, but even if you choose not to use a clicker, there is good information here.

Though the book is directed toward the author's preference in dogs--not easy ones!--the methods are also solid for easily-trained dogs. The fact is, few dogs are easily trained without a glitch now and then! She does a really good job of giving insights into how some of the "Impossible Dogs" think, and why they were bred to think that way.

She also gives insights into why more easily trained dogs are more easily trained. She says--and I strongly suspect she is right!--that easily trained dogs are not necessarily more intelligent. You just have to learn what motivates the "Impossible Dogs." And this book will tell you how, very clearly.

Charlie Walton's book, When There Are No Words, may be a small book but it is packed with heartfelt ways of coping with the death of a loved one. It is comforting and yet honest. I have given this book as gifts to friends and family.

Enthralling. Simple, direct, well written.

Charlie Walton shares valuable advice on how to be when you are with those who are grieving. He does not dwell too long on his own family's loss, but extracts and expounds on the lessons we all need to learn when facing tragedy.

Your heart will be moved and you will want to thank the author personally for touching a deep place in all of us with a deft and healing hand.

I will be recommending this one to all in my circle.

several years ago in Macon, Georgia I had the priviledge of hearing Mr. Walton give a live seminar on grief & dying. The conference room was full and we all learned much from that experience. Mr. Walton's own personal experience with grief gives the reader a true first-person account of someone who truly knows the emotions a personal goes through in the loss process. Highly recommended.

I recently lost my daughter and was having a very hard time with all of it. This book let me know I was not alone with these feelings and also no one griefs the same way. I would highly recomend it. Its not a very long book but it covers a lot of material.

When my son died in a car wreck 10 years ago, well meaning friends inundated me with books on grief. I read them all, looking for some magic fix. None provided that, but Walton's book provided me with honesty and empathy, not only for myself as a bereaved mother, but for everyone involved in my life. Walton describes the evolution of emotions as he lives his never ending journey of grief. He offers from his own experience all the thoughts and feelings that we as bereaved parents may not want to explore or admit about the bigger picture of life and death. And for those of us who have had to deal with a situation where there are no words, Walton uses words very well to comfort the bereaved and support them as they deal with family and friends who want to comfort them, even though they not only have no words, but also no clue as to what the bereaved parents are going through. If anyone has a friend who has lost a loved one, especially a child, when there are no words, this book is the next best thing.

Excellent -Written in a unique style that was easy to read and it held your attention. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. It provided insight as to what a veteran actually had to endure - something most of us simply cannot understand.

A great book and a fantastic tribute to a World War II veteran. What I enjoyed most was that the author also goes to great lengths to show the behind the scenes back round of this american hero. Many books are written about history but this book tells the history of one of the individual soldiers. Anyone who enjoys WWII history would enjoy this. Great reading!

Not only did Kathleen Belfiore Schuman honor the Schuman family with this wonderful tribute to Donald, I felt as though I was experiencing each dramatic occurance first hand. You can only image the countless hours of research that went into writing this book when you see the copies of journals, telegrams, letters, news articles, pictures, etc.

This book captivates you - you won't want to put it down.
This story would make a wonderful family war-time movie with reuniting a family torn apart by vindictiveness and war.

This book is first a tribute to an American WWII hero. It then abruptly switches to a detective story as the author searches for the hero's grave. The author's description of the search is so real, unpretentious, and down to earth that you feel you are there and a member of the family. Kathleen Belfiore Schuman talks to the reader as if she were standing in the room with him.

The book is very well documented. She includes actual scans of the original documents including the terrible telegram telling the family of the loss off their son. There is so much in the way of scans and/or verbatim transcripts that it would make a good reference book if only there were an index.

A family history is hard to write in such a way that it is interesting to outsiders but she pulled it off.

Action, drama - you name it, this book's got it! A storyline that runs a full range of emotions, from sorrow and despair to triumph and joy. A definite must-read for all ages!
