The book arrived quickly, was reasonably priced, and was in great shape. My son loves Calvin and Hobbes! He really enjoyed it and I enjoyed not worrying about finding the right gift. It was the exact book described in the ad so I was sure he didn't have that one and the condition was excellent.

Thank you very much

Calvin and Hobbes is one of my favourite cartoon series, and it is one of the few which can be equally enjoyed by adults and children alike.

Bill Watterson has a M.A. in Political Science, which suggests the reason for the names of the main characters. Calvin is of course named after John Calvin, the Reformed theologian who advocated Predestination, and Thomas Hobbes, the English Political Philosopher Thomas Hobbes who argued for 'The War of all against All' in his social contract theory.

Calvin is a somewhat dysfunctional six year old who is a constant headache to his parents, babysitters, teachers, and classmates. Calvin seems to embody several classic types of rebellious children in one character. Addicted to TV, hating girls, engaging in games which destroy the family home and engaging in wonderful fantasies make many of the high points of the series, which are darkly funny and often have a deeper satirical message about our world to the adult reader. To the younger reader, they no doubt will be delighted when Calvin makes his own time machine, goes back to the dinosaur age or becomes 'Spaceman Spiff' who fights evil aliens, or the 'Get Rid of Slimy Girls' Club Calvin forms with Hobbes.

This is a delightful comic to own and enjoy, for adults and children alike.

Probably one of my favorite Calvin and Hobbes stories is about Calvin's Duplicator/Transmorgrifier/Transmorgrifier Ray. The kid's imagination is completely limitless. And, Mr. Watterson, if you're reading this review, you should make a story where Calvin has his birthday party. Five stars to ALL Calvin and Hobbes books!!!

Hysterical and bittersweet

When you get right down to it, is there anything better than Calvin & Hobbes? In this compilation or any of the others, you get lessons in quantum physics, nostalgic looks at the agony of grade school, observations in human nature, and a bit of the "thing under the bed" style horror. All this and you'll laugh yourself to the point of wetting your pants.
The Calvin & Hobbes strips are hysterical. But beyond that, they are poignant and often bittersweet, reminding us of the children we once were and of the rich fantasies that come with childhood.
Behold Calvin, utterly impish and wise-beyond-his years. His snowmen displays, at times morbid at times downright surreal, could fill a collection of its own.
Calvin fancies himself the smartest boy in the world. And who can argue with him, other than his long-suffering parents and his faithful friend Hobbes, a tiger who may or may not be real.
Hobbes is the pentultimate friend. He is Calvin's confidante and his patient ear, but he is also the first to pounce on the boy or to challenge his sordid views of the world. Together, the pair ponder the meaning of life, question the adult world, or sneak off to explore the fascinating landscapes of childhood found under dead logs or under rocks.
If I were banished to a small island with only scant supplies to get me through my days, this book would be among the items in my trunk. I have had this collection for ten years or more and I've gone through it a dozen times. I'll go through it a dozen more before it's battered to the point of unreadable.
Watterson is an absolute genius. But as you fall into the world of Calvin & Hobbes, you'll forget that they were created by a mere man at all.

Dave Riveness did a great job with 'The Secret Life of the Corporate Jester'. I read it cover-to-cover on a flight and couldn't put it down. The combination of Greek mythology and lessons for organizational change was a very interesting idea, and Dave's writing was crisp, clear and accessible. All in all, this is a great read on how to transform an organizational culture from the inside-out.

As an aspiring home-based entrepreneur, I truly appreciate the lessons that Dr. James Chan shares with us in "Spare Room Tycoon."

The lessons offer encouragement and reassurance as they directly address many of the challenges that home-based business owners will face as they strive to reach their business goals.

The book had two very significant effects on me. First, it helped me put into words something that I had previously been unable to--specifically, why I want to be independent. I have had bad experiences with bosses in the past. I love my current field of work so much and can not bear the thought of allowing a boss to ruin it for me. Second, Dr. Chan's lesson about listening to what the market tells you made me realize that I had not been sufficiently addressing some common concerns that had been coming to me from multiple clients. These lessons have changed the way I view some aspects of my business.

I highly recommend this book to any person who is attempting to launch a home-based business. There are many valuable and enlightening lessons in Dr. James Chan's stories.

If you think you're going crazy, fear you've made a mistake leaving that 9 to 5 job, or wonder if you've really got the stomach to blaze your own path - don't go another day without this book! Practical, insightful, and a huge sigh of relief.

Tycoon Captures Emotional & Practical Texture of Self-Employment

Review Date: 2008-06-04
Spare Room Tycoon appealed to me because it promised both a roadmap to sane self-employment and an indication of where identity intersects with the freelance life. It more than delivered on both fronts. Written at the turn of the century but even more applicable to today's work environment, James renders a soulful approach to life as an "independent captain of industry myself."

Refreshingly, Spare Room Tycoon provides a glimpse of and a vision for working independently that extends beyond the virtual, isolated setting of the home office workstation. Even as James deconstructs and captures the spirit of independence, he also serves as its Sherpa, setting reader expectations for the journey ahead while giving them tools to navigate it. In doing so there are several helpful anecdotes and examples that balance his philosophical/existential approach to self-employment.

Of especial help to this reader was a specific conversation with a client wherein James negotiated the always-tricky issue of fees. In doing so, he recounted a conversation that reflected his confidence and emotional honesty - in a seemingly risky move he told the client he'd rather walk away than wax resentful around taking a lower-than-anticipated fee. The situation resolved itself.

I recommend this book to both the aspiring and established "spare room tycoons" and to those who are working for consultancies - its valuable lessons can be applied to virtually any service provider/business person-client/customer relationship.

I was introduced to this book by a Sunday morning radio interview (in Boston) with James Chan. Being 'partially' self-employed at the time, and about to make that 'big leap', I bought and read it twice. Seven years later (all at 100% self-employment) I recently re-read the book. It gets better and more accurate with time (and experience). For anyone thinking of becoming self-employed, read this book...and hang on! It could be the best ride of your life, if you are ready for it.

Quite simply, this book is loaded with everyday wisdom for those of us who run a small business. I've been drawing inspiration from Mr. Chan's book for over seven years now & recently sent the author a long overdue thank you note. He responded in kind...

Dear Mr. Wilson:

Your note on my book, Spare Room Tycoon, is a very welcome Christmas gift for me. Thank you!

The book is now out-of-print. I have bought a few hundred copies from my publisher because I believe in the messages and I don't want to see the book "pulped." Any endorsement that you can give the book (on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or other places) will be appreciated because I want more people to know that the book is still being read. I've created a website www.SpareRoomTycoon.com and posted about ten chapters of the book in the hope that it may draw some attention. I am thankful to your note because you help validate its purpose.

So, head on over to Mr, Chan's site ~ it's well worth the trip, believe me!

Sugar Rush: Love's Liberation is a brilliantly written masterpiece! The author "put her foot" in the creation of Gerald. I fell in love with him the moment we were introduced. I throughly enjoyed how the author provided us with his and her perspectives on the various events, which led up to the amazing and inspiring relationship between Gerald and Dolly.

The poetry that precedes each chapter provides us with a glimpse of what "turn-paging" events are sure to follow. Sugar Rush: Love's Liberation reminds us all that love, happiness, and peace is always possible despite what painful or heart-broken experience we've encountered in our past. This book provides hope and encouragement to those whom have lost their path on the road to love.

I'm patiently waiting for the sequel because I know Miss Vanaya will cause some type of drama for the beautiful, God-loving couple. Keep up the wonderful work and continue to bless the world with your natural talent, which God has blessed you with...

I absolutely enjoyed reading this lovella. It opened my eyes to world of love. It showed me that even though people may do you wrong in the world of love, there is still that one special person waiting to find you.Darlene "Dolly" Hunter was a perfect example of a woman who had been wronged in the world of love and closed her heart to others until Gerald "Blacksax" Washington came into her life. The book took me into the minds of the characters by making me feel as if I were actually in the book watching as the book unfolded before me. Nothing says love like having your love scars healed by that special person. As soon as I purchased the book, I immediately began to read it. As I started to read, I became hooked like a fish on a hook, with no intention of letting go. I wanted to see what laid on the surface of the world, and this book enabled me to do so. This book was filled with surprises.Every page became a window to a new world for me to explore. After the first few pages, I realized that I just couldn't put it down. I finished the book within two and a half days. The book left me wanting more. I would recommend this book to every person who has been wronged and hurt during their journey in the world of love, and know that the right person is out there waiting for you.

I wish I would have seen this book four months ago when my now 17 month old toddler was in his biting prime. Nevertheless, I still purchased it (his biting had already significantly decreased) and I'm very happy I did. Once in a while his biting will "resurface" and home we go after day care to take a look at his "Teeth Are Not For Biting" book. The words are very simple and catchy, the illustrations are perfectly colorful for a toddler (white and bright teeth being the focus) and he actually gets the hint that "teeth are not for biting"! I highly recommend this book to any parent of a baby/toddler. Good to have, especially before the problem begins.

Review Date: 2008-03-11
The best behavior series is tackling children's less than desirable behaviors one by one;preventing kicking, hitting, the sharing of germs, tail pulling, and now, biting. The text highlights the benefits of teeth for activities such as chewing and smiling as well as acknowledging situations where children might want to bite and alternatives to biting. A variety of well-drawn illustrations present a variety of children in multiple environments. The text does not follow a predictable pattern-while some phrases are used repeatedly, the pattern changes a few times over the course of the text, from "Teeth are not for biting" to "Biting hurts" and back again, which may be confusing for the 0-3 year old audience. Parents may appreciate the resources for discouraging biting and assistance with teething available at the end of the book.

As the director of an early childhood facility, we go through cycles of biting with the children. This book is one of the most effective books we use to help children, families, and teachers work through this difficult developmental stage. We have two copies--one for the classroom and one to send home for the parents to read with their child.

This a great addition to any d20 campaign, but particularly D&D ones! It finally gives playable options for overcoming obstacles sans fighting. Well there is fighting and battle scenarios in the book, but their are also lots of scenerios, and ideas for more, that involve more thinking and skill use then base attack score and spells per day. A good buy!

This is the most impressive sourcebook I've seen in a long time. It is essentially a conglomeration of encounters all set in the same general area. While many of the encounters seem a bit overpowered, each has a number of non-combat options to make them easier, or even completely avoidable. I LOVE this, and try to do similar things in just about all my games. If you think ahead and use all of your abilities, your encounters should be much easier than just storming straight ahead. The guys at Skirmisher understand this, and have come up with what I think are some really interesting scenarios. Perhaps the best compliment I can give this book is that I will use it enthusiastically in my future games. And the AC/DC references don't hurt a bit, either.

I loved this book. It fit perfectly in with the rest of the series and added to both the continuation and explanation of the complex storyline of the other three books.
If you have been reading this series, you must have this. If you have no idea who P.C. Hodgell is, I would recommend you start with Godstalk and work your way to this 4th book in the series to familiarize yourself with Jame's universe.

First of all, let me state that I have LOVED P. C. Hodgell's work ever since I picked up God Stalk in the late 80's. I was delighted when I learned that she had a "new" book out, and promptly purchased it. I loved the story, and felt that it continued the saga beautifully - and I hope she writes more Real Soon Now. However, having done some professional proofreading, I was less than pleased with the technical quality of the book. The maps were poorly reproduced, and nearly illegible in places. The book text was also poorly proofed; I found typos on every page, it seemed; the sort of thing that happens when someone runs a fast "Spell Check" but doesn't bother to check grammar and syntax. So, if this bothers you, buy the book anyway, because the story is great, but be prepared to wince repeatedly as these errors push you back out of the story. Hey - next time, Ms. Hodgell, or Meisha Merlin, run it by me, and I'll proof it for free!!

The story gets better - write more, Pat!

I recently reread the first two books of this series and then worked my way through Seeker's Mask. I loved God Stalk, thought Dark of the Moon had problems, thought Seeker's Mask had problems but was compelling enough to keep me reading, and finally started in on To Ride a Rathorn.

Wow. Amazing. I am thrilled, yes thrilled, to finally get hints and bits and pieces of the elaborate backstory that has lurked behind Jame's adventures. I feel that in this book we are finally given enough detail to have an inkling of understanding of the complex psychological issues that face so many of her characters.

Jame and Tori are wrestling with the same issues as ever, but here we finally start seeing the big picture, start really feeling their struggle and knowing it, rather than being told it exists. There seemed to be a bit more of a window into the internal life of the characters in this book, more detail about their childhood and especially more info about their father. Tori's deepseated response to the Shanir comes to make more sense.

A brilliant and fascinating book. God I hope there's another after it.

Hello. PC Hodgell here, thanking those readers who have kept faith with me all these years and welcoming new readers to my occasionally insane fantasy world. (Sorry about the five stars: I was afraid I wouldn't get posted if I didn't put down something.) Yes, I'm a slow writer, rather like the grain of sand in an oyster which eventually, if lucky, irritates the host enough to produce a pearl. Nor has it helped that publishers keep dropping me mid-series. Blame that for the gap between "Dark of the Moon" and "Seeker's Mask," when no one would touch my work. My last publisher suddenly went out of business without paying me anything for the past five years. Now, however, it appears that Baen is picking me up, so I hope to get all the books back in print and to have the funds to concentrate on continuing/finishing the series, which has become my life's work. ¨To Ride a Rathorn" got cut in two to bring it out on schedule. I'm currently working on the second half. If I ever get my website on line, you'll have the chance to commission "God Stalk -- the Sweater" (I have about 4000 different colors of yarn to play with) or a stained glass window, those being my other current occupations since I retired from UW-O, along with training a Saddlebred colt named Pip (aka Peregrine Stargazer) and chasing three rag-doll kittens around the house.

Lucado does it again. He takes a topic that is often deeply unsettling for many- the end. When Christ comes. And he takes all our worries and uncertanties gently, understandingly and reassures each one. Things that I've been afraid to admit as a Christian such as being worried about being disappointed when Christ comes (hard to explain until you read the book, but an example would be an expectant mother being disappointed because she wants to raise her baby) ...these things we don't want to admit, Lucado understands. He affirms our feelings. However, he also has a way of turning them around and reminding us of Christ's love. Trust Him.

A fantastic read.

Max Lucado is one of my favorite authors. As a fairly young Christian, I find his books easy to read and understand. His books are written in my language.

"When Christ Comes" is a book every Christian with questions about heaven should read. I read it with my husband as a devotional...it's that good. Somehow it seems that when we think of the end times, we always think of all the bad things that are going to happen and forget about the wonders of heaven. After reading this book, I am VERY excited for heaven...even more than I was before! The content in this book is suitable for new and mature Christians alike! I gave this book to my friend after she first accepted Christ and she LOVED it!

I highly recommend this book to anyone!

A beacon of insight and comfort through all that apocalyptic static

I fight monstrous spiritual battles with fear in my daily life with perpetually unanswered questions and unsatisfying answers to them. It is fear of death and the end of the world that puts my heart, mind and spirit into this tailspin. I have searched high and low in all places I dared to approach for musings and discussion about the end of the world, including the Mayan (read: pagan) calendar, controversial prophecies involving the papacy, the fictitious Bible code...you name it, I explored it, and came up with few answers to many of my worries.

Whether I stumbled upon Lucado's book or God led me to the one copy of it in my local bookstore, I don't know. All I know is that, through all that apocalyptic hype and static noise, Lucado drew me to the POINT, that Christ is returning to reclaim His church, to rescue us from the increasing entropy and chaos in this world around us. The POINT is not the pain and suffering we may go through to get there - that's not for us, His chosen ones. It's revenge. It's justice. Whether we live through it (the Tribulation) or not, is not the point. The point is what we do with the time we are given NOW, and searching through non-believers' theories and could-be, half-true prophecies is a huge WASTE of that time. We must keep our eyes on Him through the storms that are to come, and wait patiently for the calm, sweeping as many souls along with us as possible, so they can know His glory and rewards as well.

The only helpful and comforting piece of the truth (aside from the Bible itself) I've come across, and I've looked almost everywhere.

Hello , I am new to coin collecting so I needed a guide. I wanted some knowledge of the field I was about to enter. This book does that , not only price guide but much much more, full of information and nicely laid out in a easy to read format. Really good basic stuff.

Amazon pulled a scam on me.

Amazon advertised the latest, 2008 version of A Guidebook of US Coins, copywrite 2007, which I purchased. Two weeks later Amazon advertises the 2009 version. I firmly believe Amazon owes me the 2009 version & I go on record for such.

I ordered three books to give to clients as gifts. After I had ordered them I wondered if they would make it on time. They were here early. The books were exactly as described, brand new. The price was the cheapest on the net. The shipping was free. This product and service really deserve a 10.

It's been many years since I've had this book. All of my expectations were satisfied. This book has been the "Bible" for US Coinage as long as I can remember. If you want to understand grading, pricing, or just want to learn about an important piece of American history, its worth the money.

This book accomplished just what i purchased it for. I needed to value my coin collection that was not reviewed for many years. The spiral bound edition was particularly useful when looking up many different coins.

I was skeptical about ordering this product but honestly, it was the best move I've made in a while. The techniques worked and the enlargement is actually possible, believe it or not. I can't wait to order more books on this topic cause I need all the tips I can get.

Pleasantly surprised..

We loved the Natural Penis Enlargement series so we checked this out as well. As usual, we were pleasantly pleased. Multiple Orgasms were the goal for us! Who would of thought that was really possible for a man? Not me, until now!!

I actually see a difference in size after applying these techniques. I have tried tons of other books and guides but they never worked. It isn't magic because you definitely have to work at the techniques but it definitely is an awesome improvement. Thanks!

Amazing!

Can you imagine how it is to have multiple orgasms? Well I thought it was just a fairytale but it happened to me. I bought this book and many others because I was doing a research on male multiple orgasms. It turned out that it can be done. After using some of the techniques described here I managed to have 4 orgasms in only 10 minutes. It's amazing I can't believe it! If you really want something that works buy this book!

My penis managed to grow 2 inches in only 2 month. This morning when I measured it I was shocked! 2 months ago my girlfriend left me because I couldn't satisfy her. She lost! Now my penis is normal sized and I intend to grow it more! This book really works!
