Excellent information for people of all ages. Very easy to read and understand with helpful examples in a variety of credit situations. I would especially recommend this book to high school students and new college freshmen where bad credit starts all too often.

This book encourages generation x to take stock of their personal finances without references to their being a dummy or an idiot. The approach here is very cordial. The authors encourage shopping for the best fees as well as the lowest interest rates and offer tips toward ,finding affordable health, automobile and homeowners insurance. Gives you an edge so you can limit financial hardships now as you prepare for the future.

Instead it is about getting the most out of what you have by managing your expenditures. Taking the time to understand your financial potential. Every penny counts. If you start paying attention to the pennies and to the interest you are paying on credit cards for the extras in life like movies and pizza. One of the best tips in the book is on a big item don't charge the sales tax, pay cash. Paying interest on sales tax, tips and entertainment costs are the reasons we never get out from under the interest burden.

Especially for anyone trying to navigate the tricky waters of both insurance and employment benefits. including pensions and 401 k's. Knowing what you have now is the key to being able to manage in an emergency. None of us want to think about losing the job we have had for years, but stuff happens. The health insurance that you have may not seem like the best deal but if you lose it completely it could become a major financial burden. Hernan and Schliep are big on having a safety cushion in the event of job loss.

Because they were from people that recognized good writing and people a lot more like you and me than the wall street gurus that constantly advise us and encourage us to cross over from main street to wall street when our interests may not be as well served as the big spenders who make money when we the consumer buys their wares and especially when the employers can cut expenses by cutting jobs and benefits.

A "must read" for any boy who craves adventure stories. No elves or dragons or monsters - just a real picture of life of a small boy on the Indiana frontier. If you enjoyed the Little House on the Prairie books you'll love this.

This is such a good book to share with modern Hoosier children. It gives them a taste of what life was like for some of the early pioneer children living in Indiana. I have read this book to my fouth grade classes for years, and they always love it.

The Bears of Blue River is a book I can heartily recommend parents to buy and read to their children. This book, about the many pioneer outdoors experiences of young Balser in the 1820's, is a great way to introduce youngsters to life in a simpler, yet challenging time. My children are captivated as they hang on every word of Balser's bear hunting exploits in the forests of the then-young State of Indiana. My Mother, who is 91 years of age, purchased the book for my young son, and wrote in the forward "Your Grandpa Wayne liked these stories when he was a boy". Eighty-five years later, his 12 year old and 4 year old grandsons are equally enthusiastic. Don't miss this one for your sons!

What a great book! My husband enjoyed the book when he was a boy. We shared it with our children. They loved it,too! Great adventures.

In 1953 I started first-grade in southern Indiana. My teacher, Pearl Monroe, read Charles Major's 1900 Bears of Blue River to us. She, also, read it to my father in a one-room school house. It was my favorite book. There was one sad part in the book where Mrs. Monroe always cried. She would have an older student finish the chapter. In about 1980, I read it to my kindergarten age son. I also cried when the Polly died in an explosion that killed the dreaded Fire Bear. About five years ago, in a used book store in Colorado. I read it to my father who was in his 80's. Together we enjoyed the memories it brought back. This year I started teaching fourth-grade at the Odessa Christian School here in Odessa, TX - having just retired after 21 years with the pubilc schools. I just finished reading this marvelous adventure story to my class. They all acclaimed that it was the best book they ever heard read. I highly recommend this book and the sequel, Uncle Tom Andy Bill. Donald Potter

I was one of those hard-core "we must have gun control" types for a long time. In my late 30s, I mellowed out a bit and grew into more of a "live and let live" mentality. And then when I was in my early 40s, it DAWNED on me, America's gun control laws were all about controlling the rights of private, law-abiding citizens. The bad guys are NOT being constrained or restrained by gun control laws - that's why they're the bad guys.

And then there were the Virginia Tech shootings. Amidst the tragedy and the horror, I noticed that the media was quoting "experts" who were demanding more stringent gun-control laws. Commenting on this whilst talking to my beloved hubby, he replied, "you know about the Appalachian School of Law, right?"

Never heard of it, I told him. Nor has anyone else I've since encountered. The short version is this: An armed student (42-year-old Nigerian student) went to the campus of this small law school in Grundy, Virginia and opened fire, killing three and wounding three. Upon hearing the distinctive sound of shots being fired, two students ran to their car and got their weapons. Now armed, they returned to the classroom where the shooter was and demanded that he drop his gun. He did. The end.

According to John Lott (author of "The Bias Against Guns"), only four of the 208 news reports mentioned that the students WERE ARMED. That was shocking and upsetting.

Then there was a woman friend of mine. When I visited her in the hills of West Virginia, she and I would go out "house hunting" (no shooting involved) and we'd often wander into not-so-great areas of town. (We're both architectural historians and do research on old houses.) One afternoon, I asked, "What if someone comes up to us and tries to take our wallets?" She responded, "I'll reach into my purse and show them my gun up close and personal and tell them, 'no sir, but how about you give me *YOUR* wallet.'"

She was not serious, but it got me to thinking: A woman owning a gun LEVELS the playing field and equalizes power. I felt less afraid when I was with my friend, knowing she had a gun. And when we were walking through a dark parking lot late one night, she walked behind me and when I turned around to make sure she was okay, I saw her walking with her hand buried in her purse, clutching the small gun and paying very close attention to a man who was sitting at the fringes of the lot.

This and many other events lead me to "The Best Defense." The book is full of powerful stories, but I warn other readers, some of the descriptions are quite graphic and very disturbing. It's written simply and it's a fast-read and there are no annotations (which is a little disappointing) but it packs a powerful punch. I had trouble putting it down and read it all within about four hours.

It also makes a very persuasive argument that we are on the WRONG TRACK with gun control. Communities where guns are in most homes have the lowest incidence of home invasions and burgularies. That's another fact that the media won't go near.

As the last reviewer stated, there is not much else that can be said about this book. It is excellent and very good information to know. As a woman, I was especially impressed with some of these stories, especially the 74 year old woman who protects her disabled husband from an attacker / burglar AFTER being maced in the face...... GOOD FOR HER and GOOD FOR EVERYONE ELSE IN THIS BOOK THAT FOUGHT BACK AND WON. I'm sick and tired SICK AND TIRED of hearing all the arguments for "gun control". Gimme a break. Read this, read Roger A. Waters other book, read a few others w/the same concept.....the police are great and I admire and respect them - I have four relatives in various forms of law enforcement, including a SWAT sharp shooter and a patrol cop that works in a gang infested area of L.A. - so like I said, I admire and respect the police, HOWEVER, they can not protect you very often, most often they are there AFTER the crime to get the report. Responsible gun ownership is a right for every eligible citizen that I believe in strongly, especially after reading these books.

With 25 reviews prior to this one, this book doesn't need more promotion, but I can't resist giving it another 5-star vote.

Most things about this book have been stated by previous reviewers. I can add one comment: If you think that citizens should not be allowed to own guns, read the first chapter of this book and tell me what besides a personal gun might have saved Doug and Judy Stanton and their four children.

I feel this is the final word in the gun control debate. This is what we the legitimate gun owners have needed. Some proof that packing heat is the best way to deter crime and to keep yourself and your loved ones alive.

I finished reading this book very quickly. Every story was intense and captivating. The book was enjoyable for entertainment value alone, but it also contains critical information about personal defense.

Ever wondered what it was really like to be attacked by someone trying to kill you? These are stories of people who lived to tell the tail. Many potential murder victims only survived because they had a loaded gun handy.

On a personal note, my brother wasn't as fortunate as many of the people in this book. He was returning a tape at a well lit video store on a Sunday night when he was kidnapped by four thugs. They had his car, his cash, and all his possessions, but they murdered him anyway. Apparently just robbing people had become boring to them. They are now in jail, but I often wonder if my brother would be alive today if he had a gun with him.

I love the recipes in this book. The first one I tried (Cheese puffs) have been in demand in my house ever since. This book is a nice introduction into French cooking without being overwhelming. It's comfortable and down to earth... plus, the food has been delicious.

Very basic advice: a roast beef and tomato sandwich with creme fraiche for example. Simple recipes with thrifty cuts of meats for stews, soups (just add liquid!) along with many potato recipes (with more creme fraiche) from well-known and obscure bistros throughout France. Note: quiche is called 'tarte' here with no cross reference. Salads with anything you'd put into a sandwich, oil and vinegar dressing. Good new-cook gift or a quick read for the armchair traveler but I expected more from this famous food writer.

This book is great! I've lived in France and I believe this book really does deliver classic bistro fare without all the grease you can find in so many sub par Paris bistros! I agree with another reviewer that the recipes are hit and miss. For instance, the potato gratin just doesn't do it for me.

Most of the dishes require ingredients you find at the regular grocery store, are quick to make, and delicious to eat. I appreciate her complement/menu ideas. I feel that I've slightly improved on a couple of her lamb recipes and now include them in my list of recipes for entertaining.

I wish I had the same quality of book for southern French style of cooking.

This cookbook contains a collection of recipes inspired by and taken from a wide array of French bistros. Patricia Wells has assembled a terrific array of cookbooks, but this may be her best. With a few exceptions, these recipes take what I consider to be basic ingredients and turn them into a wide array of delicious, easy to prepare dishes. There are a few recipes that call for things that are uncommon to the American palate (e.g. rabbit), but overall this cookbook contains a huge number of easy to make, accessable recipes that will be enjoyed by Americans. The book is divided into 12 sections covering salads, desserts, pasta, soups, etc. It is also a regional tour through France with a diverse selection of recipes from big city bistros and small town or rural restaurants. Each recipe has a paragraph or two describing the bistro from which it was taken and some discussion of regional cuisine. One thing that I REALLY liked about this cookbook is that it will give you ideas for other concoctions. That is, as I was trying some of the recipes, I was constantly thinking `using A with B' is a great idea. For example, there is a great recipe for poached eggs in a wine sauce. A great idea! Another (minor but important) thing that I liked about this book was that it was bound so that it could be propped open on the kitchen counter. There are also flaps on the front and back cover that can block the page open so that you don't have to go fishing through the book if it does flip closed. This is a cookbook that we return to again and again, definitely worth the money.

This is a cookbook as a cookbook should be. The recipes are direct, succinct and just what one needs to prepare the dish without elaborate fuss. And most of the dishes are great. If I had to settle for one cookbook only, this would be it.

This is one of the best all around "do it yourself" books I've seen. If you work on your home, get this book! Great pictures and a wide variety of material!

Nice book, lots of pictures to demonstrate the instructions. I purchased the book as a gift and enjoyed reading it before passing it on. It explained many things that I previously questioned. I think it will be very helpful to the person who wants to learn more in this area.

We bought this because we recently purchased our first home. We love how comprehensive the book is and the pictures are so helpful.

We found this book to be essential to helping us make changes to our home. The illustrations were clear and the language easy to understand, even for beginners. Now that we've done some projects with the help of Home Improvement, we feel like experts!

The Zancharthus series is pretty much a must read after Zorachus.

The book starts a little slow, but once you are introduced to Zancharthus, you start to wish that he was in every scene. The humor in this book gives it a different feel than Zarachus, but you still have the violence and sex that you've come to expect in this world that Roger's has created.

I couldn't help thinking at first that Zancharthus was certainly no Zorachus, but Jagutai is much more interesting than Zorachus's bud, who's name I have forgotten at the moment. Once Zancharthus decides to become high priest things really get interesting.

I have to take at least one star away for the editing of this book. The number of errors are actually distacting. Luckily, the story is worth it.

This was a good read. I couldn't call it great but worth my time. The setting is well done and he has created characters who are compatible. It's worth the money.

I was expecting something kind of ordinary from this book, but boy that was a mistake. This book really rattled my cage---there was plenty of sex, violence, magic and humor. It just delivered the works. The writing was real sharp, and the characters were cool. The only down side was too many typos, but I kind of got used to it. Pick this book up!

I'll admit it, I bought Blood + Pearls for the illustrations. It's well worth the cover price just to have those. Mark E. Rogers is an extremely skilled artist, and his illustrations pratically drip with gore, sex, and feeling. To find that he writes as well as he paints was a wonderful surprise. Once I started reading Blood + Pearls I ripped right through it, then immediately went online and ordered the next two books. The characters are fascinating, especially Torrisanna and Zancharthus- both are ruthless and arguably "evil" but their spirit and complexity make them impossible not to sympathize with. This is the kind of book that keeps you up at night- you try to sleep but the need to know what happens next drives you to turn on the light and keep reading. Monsters, magic, ultra-violence, sex of many varieties, complicated and true emotions, spiritual insights, and a badass lil Asian guy.

Mark E. Rogers is brave when it comes to treading the world of written word. He does not conform to the cut and dried recipes. He assaults those techniques with a fresh and dark method of writing that is unlike anyone out there. This book continues in that genre. The Mark E. Rogers which melds Fantasy, Horror, and Erotica all nice an neatly into its own demented world.
This book is the first in a series of three and also ties in nicely with other books. This book introduces us to several very interesting and distinctly different characters. They have one thing in common. They are all living and struggling in a depraved place known as Khymir. If you think you have read about depravity and evil. You haven't. If you think you have heard it all. You haven't. Strap yourself into your chair and bring along a good supply of beverages and snacks because, you won't be coming out of this book until you have read the last page.

This book is most definately not suitable for young people. This is an NC-17 rated book and Mark did not hold anything back when writing it.

This book kept my attention from the very first page. I had difficulty putting it down and read it all in two sessions. The characters seemed very real. The suspense kept me interested and wanting to see what happened next, especially since it was based on a true story. I look forward to Mr. Ramsey's next book.

In short...I could not put this book down! Mason Ramsey's characters were touching, real and horrifying... Although, I do not usually select books of this genre I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good read. Truly, I am looking forward to Mr. Ramsey's next book and hopes he does not keep us waiting too long.

This is a wonderfully exciting book. The storyline and the intense writing style makes it a book hard to put down. I read the entire book in one night, even putting my family on hold. Hope to hear more from this author in the very near future. I would highly reccomend this book to readers who like detail and suspense.

The Moosepath league series are fast becoming my favorite books after a lifetime of avid reading. The characters are joyfully delightful and woven into a yarn that is amusing, enchanting and at times magical. Take Charles Dickens Pickwickians, add some "Three Men in a Boat" charm, a liberal sprinkling of P.G. Wodehouse's comic situations, a little Jane Austen romance, a dash of "A Midsummer Night's Dream"'s magic; mix well and spread over a 19th century Maine landscape and you'll end up with this wonderful book. You must read it - however many stars I had to give, I'd give them all.

This book is sheer fun. I discovered it in a used book store and am buying the rest of the trilogy immediately. Before I was through with the book, I was looking into a vacation in Maine. Excellent.

Van Reid is an amazing story teller. There are many great stories within the larger story. This book was great, albeit a little slow in places. If you liked it at all, you should continue on to the other two books in the triology which just keep getting better.

Van Reid has a magic way with words. In "Cordelia Underwood" he has created each character (and there are many of them)with wit and insight. His characters understand the importance of kindness and respect. They are also, with a couple necessary exceptions, game for adventure, especially when that concerns helping a friend or rescuing a "damsel in distress" (who turns out pretty good at helping herself). There are stories within stories and intersecting adventures, and I found each a delight. They all fit together into as pleasurable a novel as I have ever read. You won't regret reading this.

Van Reid has crafted a delightfully charming work. CORDELIA UNDERWOOD actually made me, a deep-fried Southern Belle, dream of adventuring in the very New England setting inhabited by the members of the MOOSEPATH LEAGUE. I look forward with great anticipation to reading all the books in the series and sincerely hope that there will be many more escapades to read about in years to come. If you are a fan of Miss Read's English villages, Jan Karon's Mitford, and L.M. Montgomery's ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, then Van Reid's Maine missives are for you!

This is a great collection of Pearls before Swine cartoons. I would recommend it to everyone.

I don't agree with ALL of the political junk, but the Crocs are a riotous laugh fest.

I just bought this book because I love the strips and I found it really good to have them printed on a book like this. They are really fun!

Well bound leather book with quality feeling pages makes this an easy book to pick up and use. I would recommend this small daily devotional to everyone. Easy to use, carry with you and to read.

Daily Light is a book that I have read for over thirty years. There is a daily reading, morning and evening, of various scriptures that are all on the same theme. It was compiled by the Bagster family of London, England. There were twelve children and it was Jonathan, their tenth child, who was mainfily responsible for the idea and for the method by which Daily Light was compiled. The family prayed over, discussed and agreed on each scripture and sometimes it was weeks before it was felt that they came to an agreement. Not one word has been altered from its conception (1794). Hundreds and thousands of Christians have read the same page with its message of comfort and help through the years since it was first published. It brings hope and encouragement each morning and evening to anyone who takes the few minutes to read it and let it sink in. "Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

Daily Light is a compot of Scriptures arranged around daily topics. It has been a favorite for generations but in 1998 Anne Graham Lotz revived it, published it in the New King James translation and offered it in a leather bound edition. Though very popular it is unfortunately no longer available. Our hope is that J. Countryman will republish it soon.

This book is a treasure of God's Word. Our family of 6 each have their own copy and we give it as gifts to those who are seeking the Lord.
