Poetry as it was meant to be

The poems in this collection are so completely opposite in content, but each is so meaningful. I was particularly impressed with "Unspoken Message to Mother." The deep feelings came through so strongly with so much love and compassion that the words seemed to take over the page in a rhythm and harmony that hyptonize the reader. The writer has an uncanny ability to delicately handle personal episodes through very expressive poetry. Stanza two of the poem, describing the beauty and usefulness of her hands is so deeply moving that it almost brought me to tears. The lines are so clearly defined and punctuation so carefully placed that it makes for easy poetic reading and understanding. All in all, it is a poem full of passion and love, and that sets it apart. The poems related to social problems... homelessness, loneliness, and aging have a special touch. The poet has a personal awareness that provides uncanny insight into the lives of those about whom he writes. This book was a very rewarding read. I hope we see more of this poet.

Mr. Bussey has compliled a lifetime of thoughts. His choice of words, his heartfelt descriptions and the way he relates to many generations are truly delightful. There are several phrases to be heard and remembered long after. "An umbrella of life" covers current and future descendents...what is man "but a memory." The only thing better than reading these poems is hearing Mr. Bussey read.

I am a greenhorn at websites so this was the book for me. It built a bridge across the gap between what I knew and what writers of books on websites assumed I knew for they started way above my head.

I wasted a lot of money on books that did not cover the basics about the web.

The heard about this book from a person in a computer club in Tennessee who heard the author speak. I got it right away and within a week I had my own web page.

Ms. Baldwin, please write a follow-up. It was such fun to be told how to succeed.

Firstly, this book is very entertaining and fun to read. That's why it gests five stars - there is nothing that innovative though. I am a systems auditor - these are the sort of things that make going to work entertaining.

Some of the suggestions are a very quick way to get into trouble - PC anywhere in particular is a high risk product in it's own right - if the security settings are scrwed up. Who is monitoring your network traffic? Do you want them to know what's on your home PC? Have you set up PC anywhere securely?

If I discovered an employee routing (confidential)email outside the company network I'd be more disturbed by the security implications than the employee slacking off. Who at the ISP has access to the email?

The ideas in this book are rather similar to spending a sick day at a ball game, which your boss is watching on TV .... fine until the camera picks you out!

Fun book. Make sure you know your companies policies before you start to play ........

I have really enjoyed reading this book. It has some really funny, neat and clever ideas in "sticking it to the man" or boss for that matter.

The techno gadgets of today were supposed to make life easier, but what it's done is elongated our work week. Now, we're expected to work all the time. It never ends...

Well this book, takes a very tongue in cheek approach and will teach you how you can make it look like you are spending those hours working away, when you can be really spending time with the family, at the movies or just plain slacking off.

Technology will change education!

The question in the title is very intriguing. The authors did a very good job at looking at expectations and reality. They continued with the discussion of the historical context, what is currently going on, and then looking towards the future of Educational Technology. The authors of the book continue to be free-thinking in the use of technology in the educational field.

This book focuses on the influence of higher education on technology and learning. Many references to standards and accredited organizations were referenced in the book. The references help put in context the ideas of change in perspective with reasons that they are needed. One sentence in the whole book struck me as an area of intrigue, "Good ideas, not necessarily new technological developments, guide the way." All educators need to model the integration of technology and not as a standalone activity. Teacher Education departments were especially emphasized in creating change in the modeling if infused, transparent technology. The intent is to allow the technology to be secondary to the primary function of education.

Patterns of change in technology were emphasized in the book. The acceptance of technology appears to depend on the degree in which it demonstrates pedagogical flexibility, supports teacher control, and is accessible. The authors mentioned film, radio, and television and compared them with the technologies in education today.

As the book looks into the future, it referenced how educators must be able to make informed decisions in choosing the appropriate media for the given instructional tasks. Kent and McNergney infuse the book with excellent real-world examples as well as how future technologies will help change the classroom setting.

I would highly suggest this book to others who are looking for suggestions as to how educators can best proceed to take advantage of technology in the future.

The only caveat I have about this book is that it was written in 1996, and some of the info is dated (IIS 2 info, for instance) That being said, this is a terrific book, and puts together all the info you'll need, from TCP/IP basics to security issues and network topology. It got me up to speed really quickly. Now, let's see a new and revised edition!!

Outstanding! Very Thorough!

Tom Sheldon's writing style is very easy to read. While he covers several subjects, including basic setup of Windows NT along with IIS, the information is very usable to a new NT Administrator.

Tom's coverage of TCP/IP is particularly useful, and he thoroughly explains subnetting and how to use TCP/IP addressing in Appendix C.

Overall this is a very useful book and one that can be referred to often to troubleshoot Windows NT and IIS problems.

"The Woman's Guide to Sex on the Web" is a wonderful guidebook for those seeking sexual information and enhancement of their sex lives through the web. Well-researched, clear, and very readable, the book dismisses the sleazy pay-first come-ons that appeal only to men whose brains are encircled by their coronal ridge. My only complaint is its exclusionary title. This book is not just for women; it is for all people who see sex as a coming together of equals for mutual pleasure and celebration. In the often tawdry environment of web sex, this reasonable book is a breath of fresh air.

Finally, a publisher wise enough to realize that women ARE TOO interested in sex! And they found the perfect authors, with an appealing, down-to-earth writing style I can relate to.

This book covers everything - consumer issues, dating and cyber relationships, and of course the one most people can't bring themselves to believe women are interested in: erotica/porn.

I think this is a great gift for men to buy if they surf the "adult" side of the 'net alone and want to start including their partner. (though they may be pleasantly surprised that their partner is also surfing steamy stuff).

I, being 11 years old, thought this book was excellent and very helpful. It answered questions about the internet. It also explained thoroughly how to create a web page using the Web Site GEOCITIES.COM. It also provided references to web activities which were a lot of fun. The one downside to it is that I got it in 1997 and the book was written in 1996. Some of the instructions were not totally clear since some of the Web Sites were changed slightly.

Elegant history of the development of the Internet

Review Date: 2000-12-07
A World's Fair for the Global Village is the most captivating book I have ever read about the Internet. Carl Malamud details the adventure of setting up worldwide networks for the 1996 Internet World's Fair-the first event of its kind-and describes the challenges of basically setting up a "World Wide Web" system. The systems he chronicles are the foundation of what we know today as the "Internet," and the way in which these were founded (around a World's Fair) is incredibly inspiring. This book is great for those who love detailed technical information and also for those with any sort of interest in the takeoff of the Internet in a global culture.

The most inspirational book ever, making a total reality!

A World`s Fair for the Global Village is a dream that became reality. An introduction and workbook for the art of using endessly debated ideas and philosophies in a creative visualization to a Global Village. There is an enormous amount of awareness leading greatly to improve beauty, prosperity, loving relationships, and the fullfilment of all your desires. Carl Malamud is using other techniques to tap into the natural goodness and beauty in all of live - to give you the ability to become a radiant being - to make posivite ideas and concepts a total reality. The books foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama speaks for itself. The book is more than eye-opener.

I'm now about 2/3 of the way through the book, and it really has not been a difficult learning exercise. It gives a great overview of web servers, and the included videos really are a great learning tool - nothing like seeing someone actually telnet into Apache and fake out a browser request. There are some errors in cross reference to the CD-only book, and some audios are out of place, but that'e life. Well worth the money.
