The author stresses that a degree of understanding Ebay is assumed. So, if you are an Ebay newby, buy another book. Also, its primarily for those who are starting an Ebay business--if you are just selling your old trains or something similiar, buy another book. If you are starting a Ebay business, it has some pretty good suggestions.

These days, it seems that everyone's had an experience with buying or selling on eBay. In the book eBay's Secrets Revealed, Dan Blacharski gives the reader everything he or she needs to know the set up and run a successful eBay business. Competition is fierce in the eBay business, states Blacharski, and any edge can translate into bigger profits for a business. This book gives you the edge that other successful eBayers may not want you to know - the secrets of the trade.

Blacharski starts at the beginning by describing the origins of eBay, and gives a comprehensive look at all aspects of running the business, from finding products through business accounting. Blarcharski also describes the technology that will make your business a success, such as anti-spam software, auction tools, photography editing software, and working with search engines.

The step-by-step guide is so encouraging that it seems easy to get started selling. There can be many pitfalls to running a business where the customer and seller never meet, and the product isn't seen until after it is purchased. Blacharski reassuringly addresses common problems and helps the business owner avoid trouble through proper planning.

The book has a colorful, attractive layout. Sidebars offer interviews and tips from the pros, checklists, and warnings. A logically-arranged table of contents steps the reader through the process. The chapters are clear and free of jargon, and the reader can easily jump to the topic he or she needs the most. Cute graphics are sprinkled throughout the book, and crisp photos end each chapter.

A new eBay business owner, or someone considering the business, will need this book. All you need to learn to start selling is addressed within the pages, and at less than 300 pages, it is an easy read.

Ebay's Secrets Revealed
By Dan W. Blacharski
5 out of 5 stars

In the 21st century, almost every American with internet access has either searched Ebay or at least heard of Ebay. There are multiple books out that have a reoccurring theme, which is "make money, make money," but that is about all that is to them. This book not only is a guide to making profit, but it takes you through the in depth steps to get there. It even goes into all of the different branches of information that will answer any almost any question imaginable that has to do with Ebay.

I have found that this book contains an abundance of valuable information to both current and future Ebay sellers. Meta tags are a key tool that are commonly over looked by Ebay sellers, but in this book Dan Blacharski not only covers the topic, but gives examples and even basic tutorial information on the subject. This book truly is revealing the secrets of Ebay.

Reading all of the advice and informative stories from actual accounts is another benefit of this book that gives the reader a personal connection. I also like how the author even gives resources as to sites that are similar to Ebay. I think that any person that needs guidance about Ebay should most definitely read this book. You are enlightened on every subject such as the history of Ebay, how to promote, shipping and handling, and even the legalities.

This book is magnificent, because once you finish reading it, you are truly educated on all of the possible in's and out's Ebay. I have stayed on the side of being a buyer on Ebay, and have never bothered with the selling aspect of Ebay, because I have always thought that the entirety of being a successful Ebay seller was too complicated. After reading this book I feel like I have gained not only a complete understanding of how to be a successful Ebay seller, but I have also gained the confidence to pursue being a seller, because I was finally able to comprehend how easy it can actually be.

eBay's Secrets Revealed
by Dan W. Blacharski

I laughed the first time a buyer sent me postage stamps for a payment. I returned the stamps and told them I accepted money orders or payment through pay pal. She did not laugh. She wrote a negative comment about the transaction and then filed a complaint against me. The litigation lasted for months and I was frustrated and confused. For several years I struggled with my site on eBay. I learned a few tricks on my own through trial and error.

Many powerful eBay sellers were reluctant to pass along any of their secrets. My site was floundering. I decided this enterprise was not for me. If only Dan W. Blacharski's book, `eBay's Secrets Revealed' was available to me way back then, my business would have been a success.

In the very first chapter Dan discusses name recognition. This is an extremely important concept in eBay auctions. Studies show that consumers feel comfortable with items and locations that are familiar.

Dan's information contains simple information regarding keywords that a first time seller may not even consider. The in depth chapter on accounting and taxes can literally save your business. Dan takes a step by step approach on how to succeed in your eBay business.

Make no mistakes eBay is a business and a livelihood for many individuals. Dan lets you know about security, customer service, fraud, payment methods and everything one needs to know to be a success in this burgeoning enterprise. Even the images you post reflects whether this item will be looked at and possible purchased.

Chapter 10 states the importance of positive feedback. This is not something you can shrug off. It can mean quitting your day job or failure. If terms like, second chance, reserve price, buy it now, absentee bid and insertion fee are foreign words to you, purchase this book.

This book can direct a novice, inform a buyer and lead an entrepreneur to success. The money invested in this book will ensure an easy and attainable transition in the art of selling on eBay. This information can also be applied to any other business project. After reading Dan's book, `eBay's Secrets Revealed' I feel confident to once again try my hand at selling and buying on eBay.

I give this book a rating of 5.

Before I started reading this book I had the impression that It would sum up all of the incidents and all the drama leading up to it. But, I was greatly disappointed. When the book ended I was thinking, did the real ending of the book fall out? Then I turned to page and saw the epilogue, so I thought, "Okay this should sum things up for me." But, It didn't. All it did was to leave me hanging on a string, and wondering if I misread something about a fifth book. I suggest that you don't read it unless you have prepared yourself for dissatisfation. But really, Is a fifth book coming out? Cause if it is, I'll change my review around completely.

I have used Flex for about a year and I have only dabbled in Ruby/Rails development. I have been curious how I might back a Flex front end with a simple service layer that isn't hard to create, maintain or host. So far I have only worked with Java/Spring/Hibernate backend services which can take a little while to build and integrate (Grails is MUCH faster).

After about 100 pages I'm in interation 4 building an interesting RIA with a Rails backend that I can host on relatively inexpensive server if I wanted to. My only struggles thus far was getting MySQL going properly. But that was only because I forgot a step in installing it.

If you have little exposure to Rails and/or Flex and you feel at home on the command line as well as you do in an IDE like Eclipse, this is a great "project" book for you. I'd say you probably want a primer in Ruby, Rails and Flex before you get going but it is pretty easy follow and has a lot of free professional advice from someone that has obviously been around the block a few times. Peter is very upfront about some things that he has done in the book that should not be considered "best practice".

I am hoping to get some good insight how I might do something similar for Flex and Grails. Regardless, I am confident this is going to be a fun journey!

I wasn't sure whether a mixed-technologies book would be adequate for both reading and reference, especially with two technologies. As both a software engineer and a moonlighting instructor this book was an easy read from the start. Mr. Armstrong explores both Flex 3 and Rails 2 with enough background information on both technologies to get a reader ready to code--and that was just Chapter...err...Iteration 1. The second iteration begins with coding (Hello World) and it doesn't stop. This is a must for your coding library and makes a great textbook for students who enrolled in courses geared toward building web and Rich Internet Applications.

The author goes into great detail on how to efficiently get Rails and Flex working together. The book is updated for the latest version of Rails as well as the upcoming Flex 3 release. I've found the book easy to follow along with and enjoy the author's humor spread throughout the book.

As a developer I'm often tasked with making "things talk to each other". Typically if I can I'll use a tool like Flex Builder for a project and if I have a choice I'll pick Java, .NET or Ruby for the server back end - whatever is the best fit. This book only backed up my belief that Rails and Flex really do work very well together. I've learned a lot going through the code both on Rails and Flex.

I also liked how the author is continually refactoring the application (called "Pomodo"), that is where your learning kicks into overdrive. He uses the Cairngorm framework and even RubyAMF. I didn't have any experience in either up until this point. Now I can say I do and it all fits together nicely.

Anyone who wants to take their company to the next level by gaining hightened exposure to their target market, Get Content.Get Marketing. is their newest, simplest tool! Bravo to Mr. Barrett and Mr. Pulizzi for tying opportunities together on the ever changing electronic highway. This book is fun, easy to read, easy to digest and best of all, easy to implement.

The way we reach our customers is evolving daily and whether you own a small business or a large corporation, there's no longer a reason to say, "I have a great product or service, but how do I let people know about it?" Read the book!

Best Business Book For Small Business

Review Date: 2008-07-03
Most contemporary business books should be in the humor genre as far as small business owners are concerned. Not Get Content Get Customers, this slim book deserves your roughest treatment. Mark it up, dog ear it, spill coffee on it, and tear through it. If there was one book you could keep out of your competitors' hands, this would be the one.
With traditional media becoming less effective, and almost all our new clients telling us they looked at our Website (HopeHealth.com) before calling us -- it was time to re-think our marketing from top to bottom. Get Content Get Customers is a step-by-step "get er done" guide to making your business visible to anyone who may be interested enough to search for your ilk.
Once the rules of the road are established, the case studies are invaluable. No theories here. It's all real world, tested advice. It's clear Pulizzi and Barrett, the authors, believe in Content Marketing because the subject matter is delivered with passion, and makes for an interesting and "relevant" read.
This advice is easy-to-follow, and easy to implement. Garden variety websites, enhanced with free downloadable software are all you need. Then only your creativity is the limit to how effective your content marketing will be. Highly recommended!

"Get Content. Get Customers." is well thought out, easy to read and highly relevant. While the title might lead one to believe that it's all about the web, the book effectively ties together all elements of modern-day marketing and links them to the spinal column of the internet.

I am amazed that in a field changing as quickly as modern marketing that the authors have been able to get much information into the book that is this timely. I found easy to follow-constructs, timely examples and dozens of items which will lead me to do additional research and continue learning.

Content Marketing works!

We had the opportunity to watch firsthand how content marketing benefitted our organization, The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce. The book's co-author, Newt Barrett, worked with us to make significant improvements in our print and online publications. The book does a great job of telling our story and that of many organizations who are putting content marketing to work successfully.

We now have a monthly magazine, Business Currents that generates great readership and great revenue--3X as much as our old Chamber publication. Our website is getting 6X as many visitors as it did before its transformation into a content-rich online home for The Chamber.

Just as the book describes, everything came down to understanding what issues are most important to our target audience--the regional business community--and delivering relevant and valuable content consistently, month in and month out. Content marketing has benefitted our members, our community, and our organization. Content marketing really works. Our organization is living proof.

I'm familiar with Barrett and Pulizzi from their blogs. And I'm a true believer in content marketing. So when I heard they had a book coming out, I was first in line to buy it. I was eager to see what kind of content they were going to deliver, and they've lived up to my expectations.

'Get Content. Get Customers.' goes well beyond the information available in their blogs, on their websites and in their print articles. These guys are high caliber professional writers and it shows. The book is a great read, but it's much more than that.

I had pens, highlighters, and those sticky page markers at hand while I read. I highlighted passages, wrote notes in the margins, and transcribed business ideas into a notebook. It reminded me of college, only I don't remember ever being as jazzed about my studies as I was devouring this book.

Barrett and Pulizzi went well beyond an academic treatise of what "content marketing" is. They took the Harvard Business School approach and told the stories of 15 different companies and how they leveraged content marketing for business success. You get all the hows and whys. The stories are fun to read and, like every well told story, they're memorable.

This book should be required reading in every business school in the country. It explains a fundamental shift in the way products and services are sold, and every person in business needs to understand it.

It belongs on every professional marketer's bookshelf - well-thumbed through and dog-eared.

An excellent step by step guide to learning Hibernate

I love this book. I wish all technical books were written this way.

A few months ago, I had a job interview and they asked me if I knew Hibernate. I told them that I didn't know it, but I could learn it. So they gave me a little sample database problem - they wanted me to build a one-to-many, bi-directional join - and asked me to spend the weekend reading tutorials on the web and see if I could get something up and running by Monday morning. So I hit it hard. I read everything I could find, just trying to get something that worked. But I wasnt able to get it working, so I didnt get the job. But I still wanted to learn Hibernate, so I bought the book "Java Persistence with Hibernate" that everybody raves about. That book was not good for me. It seemed ponderous. It has all sorts of references to JSR white papers and stuff like that. I dont care about white papers. I just wanted to find something that would help me figure out how to get my project running. I read 500 pages of that book, and I still felt confused.

So then I bought Hibernate Made Easy, and I LOVE it! It starts out with some very simple examples, so you get something working and you start to gain confidence. The first chapter is about how to set up Hibernate, and the second chapter is about testing your setup. Then he starts off with some very simple code that saves a record to the database. And then gradually he increases the complexity of the problems and the solutions until by the end of the book you're ready to solve real world problems. It's great. It's very logical and straightforward, and surprisingly, it's also fun to read. I mean, this is a book about Java persistence, but it's fun to read. How did he do that?

After I finished reading this book, I went back and tried to do the job interview exercise again to see if I had learned anything and guess what? I was able to finish it in only 75 minutes. It only took me 75 minutes to do something that I had spent about 48 hours trying to do before. Man... I wish I had read this book earlier.

This book is thorough, easy to read, light-hearted, and it tackles all the difficult topics in a logical, step-by-step way. I think it's an outstanding book. After reading it I feel prepared to tackle my next interview. I feel like I can confidently say "I know Hibernate."

This book is a great introduction to Hibernate and all the code really works. The examples are pretty good and the author builds upto a simple set of classes which illustrate all the mapping concepts. I had avoided working with Annotations and Hibernate before but I found them easy to work with and understand.
The chapters on Mappings and How Hibernate Works are very good. Keep a copy of Java Persistence with Hibernate to supplement some of the concepts. This book is meant to be an introduction so does not cover advanced topics like transactions, caching and optimization.

Awesome book/guide/primer - but make no mistake in thinking that this book is a just a primer. It covers a lot of topics and is written in a very easy, reader-friendly and intuitive fashion. Most (pretty much all) of the code is error-free and is very easy to understand (This is useful very much especially for Newbies). BEST/PERFECT book to learn Hibernate. If you are a newbie, look no further - this is THE book to learn Hibernate. A++. Shining Five stars for this book. I hope the author of this book (Cameron McKenzie) publishes more technical books like this is in future. (If there is something like a "Made Easy" series with books like this from this author, I guess it would be at least equivalent or greater than "Head First" series). What more - find a bug in the code and win $100! (I am desperately trying to find a bug in the code to buy good earbuds for my ipod - looks like it is not going to happen..)

This book really got me started on Hibernate. Before I bought this book, I bought Java Persistence with Hibernate book. Soon, I realized that Java Persistence with Hibernate book was not a good introductory and tutorial book. So I decided to try the Hibernate Made Easy by Cameron. After reading Hibernate Made Easy, I have a good understanding of Hibernate and I am ready to move on to more advanced topics. I gave five stars to this book for the following reasons.
1. The book was written in simple, clear and concise manner. It is easy to understand and absorb.
2. The code examples in the book works.
3. The book uses a simple development and deployment environment so that I did not have to download a tons of software to get the examples working.
4. The examples use mySQL database instead of HSQLDB like in other Hibernate books. So it is more practical.
5. This book is not just about learning Hibernate. It is also about how to apply this technology properly. The author included tutorials on how to design the persistent layer using Data Access Object and Factory design patterns.
6. This book has web application examples using JSP and Hibernate running on Tomcat. These examples are very simple yet very poweful. They get to the point.
7. Finally, about the author. Cameron loves to hear from the reader. He accepts the reader's comments and he shares his ideas freely with the reader.

The world of Internet marketing for the individual has nailed my interest as at least an avocation. For one who comes to the field with no real background, aside from being in IT, generally, there is the immense challenge of picking a course of action to try to move ahead. After testing the waters of various alternatives, one may come to the conclusion that there is a lot of stuff out there to learn from of varying quality, but relatively few that can paint a rather comprehensive and seemingly level-headed picture of the subject matter. From the larger view, it can be easier to make wiser choices on how and what parts of the activity that you want to emphasize. It seems to me that Impact is an immanently readable and informative road map of the topics that seem to pop up over and over again as one's exploration continues.

As a fellow author, Ken teased me about a month ago with one chapter from his new book, Impact: How to Get Noticed, Motivate Millions, and Make a Difference in a Noisy World. It about drove me nuts waiting for the book to come out so I could finish it.

That's the way this book flows. Ken pulls you in easily with his warm sincere desire to help others and fascinating stories that connect perfectly to his message...then he forces you to really look at yourself and your place in the world. All this while he shows you exactly how to literally take control of whatever it is you desire, bring it about, and impact the world in a positive way.

That's a heck of a lot to pack into any normal-sized book. But that's just the way Ken does things. You can't go wrong getting this book for yourself. You'll have an immediate impact on the world if you get several and make sure your friends and family have a copy, too.

The Book Itself Moves Energy!!!

Ever pick up a book and just from the feel of it know that it is THAT GOOD? Buy a copy now and use it. Drop everything else that you are doing! Have your friends buy copies and use them. I am not even done with it and it has already made a healthy difference in our lives. Celebrate and share with this wonderful book. We are the change that we seek. And there is nothing out there to stop us: Political and corporate corruption, warring nations, pollution, terrorism, the economy... are all realities and simply no longer excuses.

There are a lot of self-help/empowering books out there. And there should be. Ordinary people need to know that they are quite capable of extraordinary things. (And it's actually pretty easy!)
Different people will react differently to a given message, usually, but I can tell you this: Ken MacArthur's brilliant AND reachable writings in his new book, 'Impact...' will truly have a profound 'impact' on anyone who picks it up. There is a down-home, comfortable feel to the writing style, and certainly an inspiring wealth of information for anyone who wants to believe they CAN make a difference. This book is a call to action. It is a call to believe. It is also a collection of real-life examples of ordinary people doing- you guessed it- extraordinary things. Everyone wants to make a difference in the world. Let this extraordinary author show you some amazing strategies used by some of the world's most successful people- and some very ordinary people. Then go create your OWN impact!

A Summary of Online Marketing Tactics

The promise of this book was to help anyone to make an impact in an already crowded marketplace. The author is sincere and writes in a warm and friendly manner. The direction of the book is almost exclusively toward online marketing.

Having studied online marketing through email subscriptions and paid mentoring, I found little in this book that I was not already familiar with. There is a lot of attention paid to joint venture partnering, but it seems geared toward those who are already fairly successful marketers. Making the leap from newcomer to one who might seriously be considered by these top-level marketers is one that I thought should have been given more attention, given the purpose of the book. Many names were mentioned of people the author has partnered with that I do not believe would be accessible to most marketers.

I liked his advice to keep marketing concepts simple, but again, that is not new. The book contains some good inspriational stories and snapshots, and I found these to be the most interesting parts of the book.

This may be a good book for the newcomer to online marketing techniques in becoming more informed, but the newcomer will be left with many unanswered questions as to the implementation of its ideas.

what an excellent book! i read this in one sitting - a modern-day fairy tale and a reminder to all those out there looking for love to never give up hope. Written in a light-hearted casual manner, you almost feel the author sitting right next to you sharing her stories. i enjoyed this tremendously and highly recommend this to those about to launch themselves into the internet dating world.

A great, entertaining little book ...

I bought this book because I adore the cover, and much to my surprise, I enjoyed the content too. It's a fun book that made me LOL. I relate to some of the characters that author Trisha Ventker is so adept at describing. What a fun romp!!!

Most young people I know who have met mates on the Internet have had both good and bad experiences. You just have to be careful whom you invite into your life. There's some good advice in this book too.

Buy it and enjoy! Don't expect the greatest masterpiece, but DO enjoy a fun read on a lazy Fall evening.

Highly entertaining!

I could not put this book down! This girl next door knows how to tell a story. The portrait she makes of all her dates is so precise and accurate, you feel like you know them! Actually, good or bad, you've probably been on a date with someone just like them! Although a married woman myself (and a happily married one), I sometime long for the magic and romanticism of first dates... This book is a great reminder of what it really is like out there! Until you get to the last chapter and you get lured into wanting to date all over again!
A fun book and great escape from life (single or married!)

I totally enjoyed reading this book.

This book is a fun, light hearted read about the trials of on-line dating, a subject that much of the single world can relate to. I had many laugh out loud moments and loved the author's descriptions of the men she met and the environments she encountered on her adventurous dates. The author often had vibes, bells and sometimes whistles (her intuition) that indicated something about her date(s) was off. Sometimes she listened and sometimes she did not. It reminded me of my own need to trust my intuition that is so often a better judge of character than my heart and head which tends to rationalize, minimize, intellectualize, etc. I liked how the author wrote about a human experience, finding a life partner, with the ability to see the humor and, at times, the absurdity, of this experience, which is an earnest and often daunting pursuit for many people.

Some peculiar dates indeed

The stories are offbeat dates from the author's own experience. It's not as downright strange or funny as "Dates from Hell" in which the disaster dates were from numerous people. However, it's worth a read.

I love this book! I am only 28 and I can't remember for the life of me all my passwords, user names and id's, so this was perfect. I looked into other password books here on amazon and this one got the best reviews, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Definitely would buy for friends and family!

Great organizer - but a little pricey.

I like this organzer - it's sturdy, and looks just like a black spiral journal, so it doesn't scream it has all of your passwords inside. It serves it's purpose; if I didn't have this, I wouldn't use a regular journal or notebook for my passwords. But because it has the alphabetized tabs and specific spaces for website, user name and password information, it's easier to remember to put it all in one place. Good purchase, although I feel that at $19.95, it's much more expensive than it should be.

A very useful thing

I cannot compare this to similar items of other brands, since this is the only one I have ever purchased. However, I can say that I am entirely happy with it and wish that I had purchased it much sooner. It takes all the hassle out of remembering passwords and user names to various websites - something that was the bane of my internet activities for a long time. It has a nice spiral binding and a hard cover and is perfectly suitable for my needs.

Nice but returned

I purchased two of the Internet Password Organizers through Innovention Lab- one for myself and one for my husband. He really needed one because every month he forgets his user names and passwords for online bill paying. I needed one to replace my Journals Unlimited brand Write It Down series "Email & Websites: An Online Journal," which I had outgrown (it only has one page for user names and passwords). I was surprised by how fast Innovention Lab shipped out my purchase (purchased online on a Saturday afternoon and rec'd on Wednesday afternoon), and was happy that they give you a USPS Tracking Code to see where it is. I was happy with the minimum (eco-friendly) packaging- only a cardboard box with brown kraft paper used as padding. They also included a baggie with two pens, as well as a couple of business cards with a 10% off discount code to hand out to friends and family. I have begun to use mine and find that the tabs are sturdy and printed on both sides. My only complaint is more of a personal preference- I am not a fan of spiral bound books, and would have preferred a sleek binding similar to those seen on Moleskine notebooks. Either way, I look forward to using this notebook for a long time, and just hope my husband gets into the habit of using his! =)

Authors and consultants Ravi Kalakota and Marcia Robinson emphasize that the mobility revolution is in its early stages and provide insights on its anticipated stages of development. This insightful and authoritative book is well written and well organized. We from getAbstract recommend it to executives, managers and information-technology specialists, though general readers with a jones for high tech also will be blown away.

Nice Executive Overview of Mobile Applications

Review Date: 2002-05-11
This book presents an excellent executive overview of the mobile applications landscape. The strength of the book is the unique perspective of extending "E-business" investments to the "M-business" -- mobile/multichannel -- environment. It presents the business side of mobile - CRM, SCM, Mobile Office and Mobile portals - without getting mired in the alphabet soup of 3G, GPRS, UMTS etc.

I am a newbiew to the whole mobile world. I was intimidated by all the technical jargon that was being thrown around. This book helped cut through the fog and provide a business perspective of "why businesses should care?" and "what apps make sense". I highly recommend this book.

Insight into Mobile Enterprise Applications

Review Date: 2002-04-27
The landscape of mobile enterprise applications is covered extremely well in this book. Unlike other books that talk primarily about consumer applications, the authors focus on leveraging existing investments in E-business and extending them into the mobile arena. Highly recommend this book if your company is beginning to think about Mobile Applications and next generation IT investments.
