This book is something I would definitely recommend for anyone interested in breaking into programming by starting with Visual Basic. Perhaps the fact that Michael Sprague (the author) has been teaching for many years contributes to the easy-to-understand, no-nonsense flow of this book; I found other books on the same subject a little too daunting after this one. His Step-by-Step approach is very helpful, although it can be a bit tedious at times.
This is not a "cookbook" or reference book - it does not show you how to learn to program in VB overnight (it has over 75 hours of lessons, but a few "projects" that come at the end of each chapter will probably take you longer to go through the book, especially if you are just starting to program). But each lesson builds on the previous one so you are always practicing what you are learning in this book. If you are a slow folk like me, you feel tremendously rewarded when you figure out a simple task or complete a project, and it really gets you thinking about how powerful VB is and all the things you can do with it once you are proficient at it.

Some of the finest monastic scholars share their views for the future of monastic life and culture; a culture undergoing change, embracing that change with great hope with a sense of letting go of the past, whilst celebrating it.
An impressive, thoughtful, quiet and marvellous book.

A Monastic Vision for the 21st Century: Where Do We Go From Here? is an anthology of serious-minded essays by a variety of authors, including monks and theology professors, discussing the role of monasteries - particularly Roman Catholic Cistercian monasteries - in the modern-day world. Autobiographical reflections, spiritual insights, practical considerations, theological ponderings, and much more fill these thoughtful essays, and speculations on the future of Western monasticism. Highly recommended, especially for theology and Christology students and professionals. "We live in a culture where many scientists are so taken up with the very real achievements of recent times, that they are distorting its human significance by interpreting the data to fit the ideology of materialism. Cistercian life has a contribution to make to society as well as to the Church in this context by assuring that spirituality is rooted in the reality of the created cosmos precisely by using such discoveries to implement the contemplative program outlined in more general terms by St. Bernard and his associates."

My daughter of 3 1/2 years old loves doing the mazes. She cannot get enough of them. The Kumon books are the best work books out there. The quality of the paper, the drawings, and the easy to understand directions are top-notch.
We have gotten practically all of the various books that they make - including the Cutting & Pasting books and Numbers books. They are great learning materials for her because she really enjoys them and she learns so much from them - including manual dexterity doing the Cutting & Pasting books. I highly recommend these books!

This book is an amazingly powerful account of the personal hell that so many "surviving" Vietnam Vets went through. It's not an easy read, in fact it's disturbing. But we should all be disturbed about what went on over there, and what still goes on today "in our name." Get this book and read it. Then share it with as many people as possible.

I loved this book. Jennifer did an amazing job of making the characters real and allowing you to enter into their lives. The story is one that most everyone can relate and find a personal connection with at least one of the characters. I would highly recommend this book and to anyone and can't wait for the next one written by Tynes.

I loved this book! I chose it for its local flavor -- having grown up in Silicon Valley, it was fun to read about familiar names and neighborhoods, plus the infamous inflation of the dot-com bubble. But the story won my heart. It's a wonderful combination of romance, family, friendships and the challenges of a working mom. Ms. Tynes has a great style and her characters really come alive - I'm already looking forward to her next novel.

Fans of M. Atwood, Attention! This novel is as well written and thought provoking as Atwood's best, and the character development is even better. Mr. Ishiguro creates a richly appointed universe just ever so slightly different from our everyday experience, but how that difference opens us to a transcendent examination of our relationships with other societies and classes of people as well as with other species. This work, alone, should solidify his reputation as a master.
A poignant metaphor

The wonder and power of this book is that it simultaneously takes the reader on two different, almost opposite, paths. From one point of view, the book begins in what almost, but not quite, appears to be a realistic setting, and only slowly, in small, carefully, measured doeses, reveals itself to be an uncanny, frightening, science fiction fantasy. Yet, at the same time, this same book begins with a set of characters who seem too wound up in their own lives and obsessions to speak to us, but who eventually reveal themselves to embody the deepest and most poignant dilemmas of what it means to be human. Some reviewers have described "Never Let Me Go" as a cautionary tale about the excesses of science and the fearsome possibilities of biological manipulation and exploitation. It is that. But it is, more truly and powerfully, a profound metaphor for the human condition. We are all, really, just like Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy, striving to make sense of who we are, and, at our best, insisting on our intrinsic worth as human beings. That, I think, is the real message of the book, and it is more scary and humbling than any mere warning about medical science could ever be.

For a first novel, this book has several layers of both plot and nuance. She delves into our prejudices, both expressed and repressed. We are forced to examine our own souls in ways that may not be comfortable in the least.I thought she was a little viscious with the mother figure, but maybe that was a bit autobiographical. Her later books have improved in any number of ways.Maybe her opinion of her sainted mother has improved too.Her brand new book looks pretty good.I'll have to read it,I guess.

This is a wonderful story. It brought forward all the fears, and struggles we all have in our relationships with other races. But as we accept, with all our hearts the real person, the soul of another being, our love grows and expands. Our circle of family expands, and then hope really can spring eternal. If Cassie can accept the chalenges, so can we. Great little story, would love to hear more from this author!!! We need more stories that are uplifting, and to beable to read a book with out foul language or vile sexual content, is wonderful. I could recommend this book to any one, of any age, or race.

If you want to knit for kids, from toddler to elementary school age, this book has treasures galore. I usually find about a third of a knitting book appeals to me; in this case, I liked something about EVERY pattern.
There is so much to choose from here. For one thing, the book uses novelty yarns, those wonderful, wacky yarns you long to try, but of course as it's kids' knits, you don't need to go broke buying 20 balls of fluffy fringe yarn. You can use a few balls as ornaments. There was a spring green vest with ribbon-ornamented green yarn, like tags of paper that was so cute. Some dresses and vests are also trimmed with fur yarn. So if you comb the sale bins, you will be finding patterns here to use up your interesting stash.
There are also plain patterns that really look great; two boys' soccer sweaters that are simple, but stylish. One is done in ragg yarn (tweed) with a red trim around shoulders and seams. Another is grey with yellow chest stripes and sleeves set into a yellow ribbed trimmed shoulder. Simple, but effective.
There is also a pattern for a treasure-pocket vest, with simple lines and a cute pocket that you can use to ornament creatively. Suits boys or girls.
Mostly, these patterns are for vests, hoodies and sweaters here; a few hats and scarves. If you knit for kids, I promise you, you will enjoy this lovely book.

If you're looking for unusual, easy knitting projects that will look cute on children and be fun for the knitter, I urge you to consider Nifty Knits for Kids. These designs will delight most knitters, and children will cheerfully wear them. They are cute, usable and useful.
As soon as my copy of the book arrived, I sat down and looked at it page by page and had trouble deciding which of the more than 30 designs I wanted to knit first. I found the patterns fairly easy and think they can be made by relatively new knitters. Busy mothers and grandmothers will probably be happy to know that it shouldn't take a great deal of time or money to finish most of these projects, and that the yarn can easily be found. Another advantage is that a lot of these items can be worn more than one season instead of only in the winter. They are definitely "Fun Wearables for Kids on the Go".
