this book is awesome for small parties and especially for just hanging out with your roommates on a foggy minded sunday morning. you know the kind where you're sitting on your front stoop, drinking coffee and wondering wahat happened, and maybe should you go get some burritos. i like both of his books. they rock! they also make you want to check out music that you haven't heard for a while. very cool.

Like the 80's version, this book will challenge even the most die-hard music trivia buffs. Covers all genres, with cleverly written, interesting questions. Great for a party game, drinking game, or for reading on your own. Makes a great stocking stuffer for the holidays too.

In fact it is one of the best books I ever read. I don't remember how I discovered this book, but I can say that Grace had a hand in my discovery of it. Judy Borich has written a book that is, for me, a gift from the Universe for my life right now. It expresses everything I know is true. All the Wisdom synthesized from the ages is here in this short book. I read it 2 times when I got it and just finished a third reading. Please read this book and share it with your friends. Read it, while listening to Michael Hewett's Being in Dreaming CD. Each are amazing in and of themselves.

Judy's advice to stay out of your partner's choices, to forget about complaining, and to trust that everything is unfolding as it must, is good advice. I am not surprised that the reader who called Judy's teachings "snake oil" is now divorced.

A Breath of Fresh Air for Relationships!

Review Date: 2005-01-29
Judy Borich's book TOUCH AND GO is like a breath of fresh air in the field of interpersonal psychology. I especially love the way energetic fields are described as being the essential basis for understanding interpersonal relationship dynamics. TOUCH AND GO makes it clear how each person has a boundary around their individual energy field, and how there is a boundary around the couple who are in a close relationship... and last but certainly not least there is a boundary in between the two people who are in the relationship. This boundary concept is elegant in its simplicity, and profound in its implications for interpersonal relationship dynamics.

When one comprehends these three basic types of boundaries, it becomes clear that one can only speak for oneself, even if one feels strongly that one's partner should agree. When each person feels secure both in their individuality and freedom to disagree, as well as feeling secure in the relationship... something magnificent becomes possible. Such relationships are capable of bringing out the very best in people. TOUCH AND GO provides exercises and descriptions of how to set boundaries, respect one another's boundaries, resolve conflicts, and meet our relationship needs.

TOUCH AND GO is an essential book for anyone interested in attaining the best possible relationship with another, who is willing to be the best they can be in order to help their relationship be the best it can be.

How to achieve joy in your relationships

Review Date: 2003-01-17
Certainly, Judy does not teach how to "fix" your relationships with others or with yourself. What she teaches is how to proceed through a process of cultivating joy in all relatedness. Anyone who comes to her or reads this book hoping to "fix" things may be disappointed because the need to fix probably means a need to change and grow. I find that what is written in this book is really very practical and has enabled me to understand and move past my own repeated patterns that have led to disappointment in relatedness. I will admit, though, that those patterns have been hard to change, much like addictions, and it has taken some time for me to take responsibility for them. I now have great joy in resonance with others and myself, and better understand how to move from that resonance back to being centered and able to experience resonance once again--a much better pattern than closeness/boredom/anger/blaming!

As a speech-language pathologist who reads to children as part of inclusion-type therapy, I can only say that I have never received as enthusiastic a response from my students as I did while reading this book. Never mind that the rhymes are forced--the young ones don't care and it's great for developing their sense of rhyming. The illustrations are breathtaking and regularly draw cheers and "ooohs!" and "ahhhs!" from my listeners. Girls as well as boys are fascinated. When they learned that they could check it out at our school library, they made a beeline for the stacks.

This book caused me great dissatisfaction with the way our church was going. It was the start of our continuing journey from a program based church to a cell church that is Christ centered and peoople oriented. Have you ever read one of those books that had timeless messages? Well like His book the Shepherds guidebool this is the grand daddy of them all.
If you don't want to be pushed from you comfort zone and believe God for greater things don't, please don't read this book. If you must buy one then amazon is the place to do it.

Visionary plea for New Testament style church life

This is an exciting apologetic for cell churches as opposed to the PBC (program based church) approach. Neighbor powerfully argues against models of the church that leave members sitting and soaking, and in favor of real community and ministry for all Christians.

Neighbor is very taken with the Yonggi Cho model, which I am not committed to, but the main point of the book is the need to get back to every member ministry. Unless the church in America makes a conscious committment to restore this central New Testament imperative, we are doomed to ongoing anemia, and self-centered Christianity.

Great book that gave me a lot of insight to what the cell group church is doing around the globe. It shared with me some of the differences between a traditional church and a church of cell groups. Having a church with small (cell) groups to being a church of small groups is totally different and Ralph Neighbor helped explain the differences between these two mindsets in his book Where Do We Go From Here? I have a clearer picture of where I need to go from here but God help me in this. It is a drastically different church than what I see around me but I do believe that the church will need to change to be more effective in the future.

What are the benefits of a Cell Group Church over that of a Traditional Style Church?

1. Cell Group Churches are more efficient than traditional churches. In the traditional church, only 10% to 15% of the membership are engaged in the tasks required to make the Church function. After the teachers, administrators, musicians, etc., have been pulled out of the total membership, the rest are expected to be faithful members. If an automobile engine were rated at 15% efficiency, it would never see the light of day. The contrast between this misuse of Christians and the New Testament church, where 100% were involved, is scandalous. In the Cell Group Church, everyone is involved ministry, even the children.

2. Cell Group Churches are based on the Scriptural concept of community. The essence of community is a sense of belonging. There is a powerful Christian comaraderie established when people belong to each other in a cell group. This cannot be equaled in a church which assembles people in large groups. People look after one another, and they share the ministry of reachingthe unconverted as a community task.

3. Cell Group Churches focus on the importance of prayer for their ministries. Half nights of prayer are commonplace among cell groups. As much as one third to one half of the time spent in their gatherings is devoted to prayer. Because of this focus on prayer, it is common for many to find Spiritual, Emotional, and Physical healing as a result of a cell group who has a deep commitment to prayer.

4. Cell Group Churches are not limited by the size of a church building. It is obvious that most traditional churches are limited by the size of their buildings. For some, the original building is used for generations. For others, a spurt of growth requires a massive building fund drive and a small addition of space. The success of a church is often measured by how packed the auditorium is, rather than by the number of people who are brought to personal faith. When cell group churches do construct space, it is clearly created for the purpose of equipping, and not for attracting, members.

5. Cell Group Churches are focused on evangelism that includes the powerful witness of Christ working within His body, beyond the traditional presentation of the "plan of salvation." The "ungifted" and the "unbelievers" of 1 Corinthians 14:24-26 are once again, as in the early church, exposed to the amazing power of they body of Christ, where all are involved in the process of edification. Once again it has become commonplace for these seekers to fall on their faces and say, "Surely God is among you!" The form of evangelism that takes place in a Cell Group Church is as old as the book of Acts!

6. Another benefit of a Cell Group Church is that the gospel is offered by non-professional hands, the hands of friends or neighbors, not outsiders. With this being the case, suspicion of the Christian clergy is not present when people in the community are the bearers of the gospel. It is not uncommon for cell groups to see conversions on a weekly basis.

7. Because cell groups are battlefields where people are set free from strongholds, it is commonplace for a cell group meeting to focus on a Biblical teaching related to a life problem. While the Traditional Church will focus on these issues in a sermon, the cell group calls each member to be accountable. Many times a cell group leader will ask, "What is the state of your life concerning this issue?"

There are many more benefits of a Cell Group Church over that of a Traditional Style Church. Please understand that I am not saying that the Traditional Church is completely ineffective. It is just that E.O.T.C. believes that the Cell Group style of ministry is a better means of reaching out to the growing number of people who are lost and need to find eternal life in Jesus Christ.

It has never been, nor will it ever be our desire to take people from other churches to build the size of our Church. While we will never turn down someone who wants to join our church, our primary goal and focus is to reach out to the unchurched, unsaved population with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are not in competition with anyone other church wether it be a cell group based or traditional. There is a place for both styles of churches in our culture and it is our suggestion that each believer find a Church where they will be encouraged to grow in the faith and where they will be taught the Word of God and given a place to worship from the heart. For some that may be a different church than E.O.T.C., but the truth is that we are all ONE CHURCH!!!

This book is an underrated classic and it's truly a damn shame that it's no longer in print! Essentially, this is Martin Luther King's blueprint plans for a post Civil-Rights movement America. He speaks of multiethnic coalitions, against the less positive aspects of Black nationalism, and he speaks of ways to "turn the streetcorners of the ghettos from dens of iniquity to miniature schools." Much of what he says here is quite practical also. Read this and you will be happy that, although Dr. King is no longer with us, his message has been preserved.

This book is simply amazing. Even though it was written 45 years ago, it has a terrific insight into the problems of America. Even though I am not Christian, I find that Martin Luther's ideas really apply to all people, no matter who they are. Its a pity that more Americans don't read his books. Anyhow, if you can find it, I highly recommend that you read it! :)

The beauty and depth of this book is that it tells us about human political relations today even though it was written over 30 years ago!

I also like that it is Martin Luther King in his own words (not some opportunistic interpretation of his ideas) on subjects like:
Black Power
Affirmative Action
Poverty
Love

It also makes it painfully clear the Martin Luther King Jr. was far more extraordinary in his leadership than we give him credit for being today. He thought deeply, connected the dots, and put his life behind his ideals. This is a must read for anyone who hasn't already connected the dots between justice, religion and love.

As a reader one often searches for a book that will inspire, and yet, teach. Martin Luther King has done just this. His prose educates and inspires passion. As an avatar for civil rights Martin Luther King Jr's story is as compelling as any figure in history-white or black. And if any reader wants to get a true measure of this brilliant man, look not just to the words of others, but to the words of the man himself. Allow Martin to transport you with his pithy, unpretentious prose to an area of higher consciousness.

Truly remarkable. A worthy read for any generation and for any interest-whether your interest be in history or in education, in a lesson in passion or well-written prose. Martin's words asks us the difficult questions that we are so afraid to ask ourselves. A reading of this Classic treatise can certainly raise one above the chaos that still exists and inspire us to build a community of human beings.

A read worthy of a 9 for content and for force.

Civil Rights 1967

Dr. King's penultimate book provides a snapshot of where we were in 1967. Two turning points had been reached.

First, his program of nonviolent direct action was clearly winning the struggle against old fashioned southern segregation, and Dr. King was looking toward the next step. He believed that the next logical step toward setting people free was a massive government program addressing the problem of poverty.

Second, within the civil rights movement, a "black power" mentality was gaining prominence. Some argued that whites should be excluded from the civil rights movement, and that nonviolence should be abandoned. Dr. King insisted that this approach would only balkanize our country, having disastrous effect, especially on blacks.

As with his other books, the author's brilliance, his scholarship, and his Christian love all come through.

It would be best to read "Stride Toward Freedom" and "Why We Can't Wait" before reading this one.

This is sweet book with wonderful ryhmes.
The second page ties in with the first page's
ryhme and it does that throughout the book and at the end of the story you realize that the animals are the child's stuffed toys and that they were out in the places where the child's imagination placed them and that they are all home now because the child has gone to sleep.

This book was written by my pre-K teacher. I am now in third grade. This book is a story about a dog, a cat, a monkey, a camel, a seagull, and a brown bear. Each animal has its own page, but the author repeats certain words to give the book rhythm. This is a good book for a parent to read to a child to make the child feel comfortable and at home. Not only is this book fun to read for children, but enjoyable for an adult reader -- adding a little rhythm track to the text, and a pat-clap from the children, produced a wonderful lesson for my music students. They learned the text quickly and enjoyed the ending which reminded them of similar "toys come to life when you're not looking" stories.

THE WOLF TRAP by Dennis Wise is the story of Ervin "Bulls Eye" West, a drug dealer in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1970s. It is also a tale of the hard life that hustlers, pimps, drug pushers, and prostitutes have on the hard, unforgiving streets of that city. Bulls Eye is in prison when he hears that his twin brothers Eddie and Ernie have been killed. He vows to find out who did it and take care of them when he gets out. He also wants to break big onto the drug scene so he makes the right connections in prison with an eye toward the future. When he is released he looks up Fat Man, a man who served time with him and who has big drug connections. Fat Man sets him up as his dealer in Baltimore. Bulls Eye also finds Alina, a former prostitute and masseuse, whom he finds irresistible. In no time, Bulls Eye is rolling in cash but he is smart and uses his money, not for gaudy living, but for taking care of his sisters, their children and Alina. Nothing ever goes smoothly for very long, however, and a jealous pusher wants Bulls Eye's territory and his inventory and the murder, mayhem and kidnapping begins. A hustler named Wolf wants everything Bulls Eye has and he will stop at nothing, including setting Bulls Eye up for more jail time.

THE WOLF TRAP is steeped in steamy sex, senseless murder and wanton brutality. The characters are fleshed out beautifully and even as they plot and plan murder and illegal activity you find yourself hoping they'll win. It is also a story of forgiveness and redemption within a limited scope as the characters see and empathize with each other after something horrendous has happened. There were some editing errors that interrupted the flow on occasion but it was an interesting read. Wise has lived this life and thoroughly understands it. He has been serving a life sentence since 1979 and proclaims his innocence. This fact alone should be a wake up call to anyone who might think this life is glamorous. It is well worth reading.

Without giving up the plot...this story teaches lessons from the street through the eyes of several very interesting and well-developed characters. This is not your typical drug dealer meets HO novel:^)....Dennis Wise definitely has a valuable and well-articulated message in this book. If you read between the lines, the lessons learned and taught by these Hustlers can be applied to anyone in the GAME or NOT. Readers will not be disappointed!!!!

I am not a reader of urban fiction novels but this book grabbed every minute of my attention, it was so hard for me to put it down because i was so eager to know what was going to happen at the end of the book. It was an excellent book from beginning to end. Hats off to Dennis Wise. Can't wait to read the next one.

WOMEN RISKTAKERS by Patricia Bailey depicts the lives of some of the greatest women of strength in the Bible. We take a look into the lives of Rahab, Esther, Hagar, Jochebed, Hannah and many more. Each of the women portrayed took risks by going outside of the box. They stood their ground often times when the end result could have been their death. Their faith in God was all they needed to persevere. They allowed themselves to decrease while the Christ in them increased.

You don't have to be born into wealth or be a celebrity to be used by God. Rahab a prostitute, Esther, an orphaned Jew, and Hagar, a servant, were all used by God in a very profound way. Some of the obstacles they encountered made the trials and tribulations I endure appear trivial in comparison. The faith, courage and strength the women displayed are undoubtedly characteristics all women should strive to possess.

WOMEN RISKTAKERS is an inspiring book that encourages you to listen to God and allow him to lead you on your pathway to success. Reading about these powerful yet humble women of the Bible enabled me to see that I, too, can rise to greatness. By stepping back and removing self, you then allow God into your heart, and he will lead you to your divine purpose. His plan may not be the plan you have for your life, but undeniably it is the best plan. Written in an easy to understand format without being preachy, WOMEN RISKTAKERS can assist you in reaching your highest potential if you allow it to. Are you willing to take the risk?

Women Risktakers is a well written depiction of great women of the Bible who because of their strong faith in GOD, allowed Him to use their lives for His purpose. A very accurate portrayal of the power that GOD gives to those who are willing to press through the obstacles in life.

Women Risktakers is a strong and compelling testimony of courage and faith with authentic examples for the women of today. I've had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Patricia speak at my place of worship and her anointing is clear and evident in this book just as it is in person. Higly recommended!

This book, "Women Risktakers," will make you get out of your comfort zone. You can't walk on the water unless you get out of the boat! Dr. Pat Bailey is a living testimony of one who has the courage of Esther, the wisdom of Abigail, the strength of Deborah and the humility of Hannah. She has served in over 100 countries including India after the tsumani.

I loved this book. It changed my life! My prayer group read it and loved it too! This book would make a great Bible study. A real page-turned. Better than a Hershey's bar.

Great advice for the international traveler. I especially enjoyed the brief histories given for each region. It truly helps to have some knowledge of the events and experiences that formed the culture, and how that might relate to some of the actions and motivations today. The examples given open your mind to consider that what actions that might be "natural" or "proper" or "taken for granted" here at home may be construed differently abroad. I also appreciate the list of references should I wish to do more in depth research.
In short, the book is very well written in a natural, friendly tone that makes it a pleasure to read.

I have lived in Israel, Guatemala and Germany and think it would be useful for people who are going to travel or live in another place to read this book. Lanie points out so many small but extremely important cultural differences, such as conversational formalities and body language, and how being familiar with these nuances can make or break a business deal or greatly affect how one is treated in another country. This book will help the seasoned traveller and the novice to remember to think outside of his/her own world when embarking on an international trip.

Useful whether you travel the world, or navigate the world at home through the web, e-mail, and phone.

The short interviews, comments, stories and observations from people around the world that begin and end chapter, and are interwoven throughout the text, powerfully illustrate the key points.

A lively and fun read. Easy way to understand history and business throughout the world.

Full of practical information from beginning to the end. The opening quotes for each chapter "I Wish I'd Known" and "I Wish They Knew" highlight the importance of becoming familiar with a country's culture before traveling or embarking on a business venture outside of the US. I laughed out loud at times ( and hope to avoid some faux pauxs made by others). A good book to read before traveling or while on the plane!!
