Two out of Three Ain't BadReview Date: 2004-01-22
Hot! Hot! Hot!Review Date: 2002-07-04
The three stories are tied together by the idea that it is three friends meeting at a halloween party, all of them hoping to (or at least thinking about the possibility) of getting laid. All three of them find their heart's desire.
The first story was Bloodlust by Marilyn Lee and was my favorite out of the bunch. It features a very sexy vampire (my favorite alpha male!) and made me wish that I could have (or be had by!) a vampire of my very own.
The second story was A Little Too Charming by Treva Harte. The hero is a witch who has discovered that to save his family from a curse brought down from the Salem Witch Trials, he must love the descendant of one of the women executed during the trials. This story would have been better if it had been longer. I wanted to know more about the curse and the history of the two families, but the story was still very good.
The third story was by a fave in the world of romantica, Jaid Black. This story was called Naughty Nancy and is in Ms. Black's very popular Trek Mi Q'an series. Although I have never read one of the Trek Mi Q'an Books, I have now purchased the first in the series and am loving it. Jaid Black is a very talented author who even had me interested in what it would be like to love a "gargoylesque" shape-shifter. Very erotic!
I really recommend this book to all readers who like their romance very erotic and spicy. Not for the tame of heart, but definitely a fantastic erotic read!
Halloween tricks and treats!Review Date: 2003-09-05
My favorite is Naughty Nancy by Jaid Black. Although it's part of her Trek Mi Q'an series, it stands alone very well. Jaid Black has a way of making the bazarre very [physical]. I love her takes on the "beast" theme - be they gargoyles, ape-men, or humanoid.
This is a keeper!
What a Wonderful Collection of StoriesReview Date: 2002-12-10
Bloodlust is the first in series of stories about a family of vampires. Mikhel and Erica are perfect together. Once Erica gets past the terror of a full blood female trying to kill her and Mikhel.
The Jaid Black story is set in the future history of the Trek Mi Q'an series. This is also a very good story. Jaid Black can write lush story populated with characters you can identify with. Her Trek Mi Q'an sereis will have you laughing and crying and cheering the Heroines on the conquer their seven foot plus husbands.
Treva Harte story is about the need to remove a curse and find redemption. Along the way the two lovers learn the meaning of love and understanding.
I would recommend anything written by Jaid Black and Marilyn Lee

The writing is hot and the love scenes are hot. I can't wait to read more about the vampire in the next book.

magical !Review Date: 2005-05-25
The human element is a sweet brown haired girl in a blue dress and floppy flowered hat, and who is afraid of the storm. Her mother introduces her to the bears, and she starts to see the storm as a friendly, magical event.
The highlight for me is the big cat trio with the lion playing the violin, and the verse for this is:
"Then the lions and leopards and lynx play the strings.
Hear them howling and yowling the way the wind sings".
All the verses are simple but well written, and have an imaginative charm that goes well with the pictures.
As an artist/illustrator, I take my hat off to the award winning Phoebe Stone, for her unique and exquisite work in this book. Stone also has made a name for herself as a fine artist, and "When the Wind Bears Go Dancing" was the first children's book she both wrote and illustrated. Art pieces from this book have been exhibited at the Boston area DeCordova Museum, and at The Society of Illustrators in New York City, and my favorite "lion and violin" illustration graced the cover of Booklist Magazine.
If you have a child who is afraid of nature's wilder moments, this book will help to calm their negative feelings, and bring a sense of adventure to scary elements like lightning, wind and rain.
The paper is of nice quality, with a semi gloss sheen, and the color reproduction is superb.

Biggest Loser fat loss secretsReview Date: 2008-04-15
He is a former athlete himself and worked as the doctor to sports teams. He observed the athletes having problems keeping weight on, no matter what they ate, due to the amount of exercise.
He is the originator of the Biggest Loser plan you see on TV. He was asked to formulate a plan for weight loss. At the time, it was not thought possible to lose as much weight as they do on the show.
His theory is to exercise 1 hour 2 times per day and eat about 1,800 calories. Do not restrict carbs too much or you will lose valuable muscle tissue.
This book is the science of FAT loss. Long term fat loss success.
I love the science of it. We don't need another diet book. Diets do not work.
Read this book to know about the science, not the fad, of fat loss.
I recommend this book to everyone who needs to lose weight. If you wanted to know the secrets of the Biggest Loser show, here they are.
All the Fat - but not all the factsReview Date: 2008-02-17
While I am not obese and in fact just got back into the normal weight category, I was intrigued to read the Biggest Loser story. The book is well written and useful for anyone who wants to improve their weight and overall health.
I was a bit surprised that Dr. H's maintenance program includes 9 hours of weekly exercise. I do 5 and thought I was doing enough. But overall, for the obese person to be able to see such dramatic results - exercising at home - is truly inspiring. If you need to take off a lot of weight - read this book and follow his advise. And if you can possibly do so, take a trainer as well.

Very good however...Review Date: 2005-04-17
Did he really have to describe the talented Kim Weston as a "dark skined woman with a tendency to put on weight?" Was she really laughed at when she got on stage? To me, Kim Weston was one of Motowns most talented female singers. Couldn't the author have spent a little more space on her vocal talents?
He dismisses the Supremes post-Diana Ross career in a few sentences. Did he ever listen to any of those records? The post-Ross Supremes made some wonderful music which is just now being rediscovered.
He writes off white singer Chris Clark as a "not very gifted singer". From the few songs I have heard, she may not be a virtuoso, but she's not that bad! I know of some rabid Chris Clark fans who would challenge Nelson George on that point.
He spends a lot of time on certain subjects such as Motown's post-70's decline, but seems to spend very little time actually analyzing the music.
A writer, of course, has a right to his opinions and I think, in all fairness, he does a very good job with the book. My biggest complaint is that he seems a little cynical about Motown. I know that not all was happy beneath the wonderful music people heard, but there is still something in his attitude that bothers me a little. Sometimes he seems a little bit mocking in his tone. He wrote a later book about hip hop (a music style I don't care for) and seemed to treat the whole subject with more respect.
I'm probably being a little too analytical about this book.
Anyway, this is still a good book. Put on some Motown music and enjoy.
The BEST Motown bookReview Date: 2003-03-24
`Where Did Our Love Go,' on the other hand, proves a truth we discovered in the day of the very music it chronicles: no amount of tepid covers surpasses a towering original. Perhaps because Mr. George was not an insider at Motown in the 60s, his history of the company is so objectively good. I've read it many times in over 16 years, and haven't found a date or factual mistake.
And it is balanced. The wonderful music of those glory days in Detroit is given the respect and affection it deserves, as well as the how-it-came-about details. Mr. George acknowledges as most of us do, that Motown's 60s sound is timeless, and is going to outlive Berry Gordy, the artists whose names appeared on the labels, and we baby-boomers who were weaned on it.
Yes, the who-struck-John stories of disappointment are delineated fairly too: the career declines and /or disappointments of folks like Martha Reeves, Gladys Knight, Chuck Jackson, Marvin Gaye and, especially Florence Ballard. But unlike the recollections of the authors listed above, `Where' is not told by a writer needing to come out smelling blameless or put-upon at the end.
All these years later, `Where Did Our Love Go,' by Nelson George remains the single most essential biography of Motown Records you can own. Buy it anyway you can manage to, even used - just don't ask to borrow mine. Beyond it, there are two companion works you should also seek out for some fair and detailed `inside' looks of Motown in those days: `Divided Soul,' David Ritz' account of Marvin Gaye's life, which appeared first in 1985, and might have been helped in its excellence by the fact that its subject was no longer around to censor it or `advise.' Finally, from 1989, J. Randy Taraborrelli's `Call Her Miss Ross,' could likely be a dozen times more factual and objective than the 1993 work of the former Supreme herself could ever be!

Best book on motown I've readReview Date: 2003-03-14
This book does not suffer that hinderance, and it allows us to read what really went on behind the scenes. It was not such a happy family with Berry Gordy Jr. as the paternal head as it is often depicted.
An excellent book, both readable and informative, and well worth getting hold of for all fans of the music who want to know what really went on as the records were made and the tours were run.

The media with much fan fare and airtime has greeted the current wave of tell-all books about the Clintons. All of these books try to find the "inner" Hillary or Bill, what shaped their lives and how they became the people they are today. For the whole story you need only to read Where Liberals Go to Die.
James Evans takes us inside the campus radical's mind (the Movement) and shows it to be no different then the so-called enemy. The only difference is that so-called enemy has power and the campus radical wants it. Mr. Evans takes the reader through journey of "let's pretend" where outcomes are meaningless, only intentions should be judged. In the minds of the liberals, according to Mr. Evans, if an outcome is accidentally achieved points are taken away.
Where Liberals Go to Die is a must read for any conservative and a great gift to any liberal.
WOW!!!Review Date: 1998-07-29
As great as the W.W.II generation was, they did the nation a big disservice by never disciplining these punks and by spoiling them rotten. Now, we've got the Clintonistas in the White House, and people wonder how it happened.
What should have happened during the sixties, when the sniveling snots were protesting this or that, was the the deans should have had them arrested, expelled and sent home to Mommy & Daddy and had them spanked! and put to be without any dinner.
Way to go James. This book goes along very well with Thomas Sowell's "The Vision of the Anointed".
